But I’m 100% doing this in my backyard this week! This has been super helpful. I pretty much had a rough idea of what to do and how but the turn buckles and the ferrel bits were clutch and I liked how you zip tied several at once before moving the ladder! I wouldn’t have thought about that straight away! Nice video!
Zip-tying multiple at a time were out of necessity actually 🤣 I would have had to dangerously be on the top step of the step otherwise. Glad this video could help you out!
Nice job! Thank you!!! You will never have a problem with leftove zip ties! As a do it yourself right, they will always come in handy for something down the road!
Very practical approach and informative. May I add that cable connection durability can last longer if : 1. Have the end cables tied/locked not just by the hammered/crimped silver thing (sorry I think u call it ferrol). 2. The loop can also be protected by a metal shield so the cable is not the only one touching the eye hook at the end. I wonder if shower curtain holder would look nice as an attachment to the string lights ;)
I just ran a light string around my deck, which has a pergola attached to it, so I already have vertical posts in place. Keep up the great postings, but I would’ve liked to see your setup at night, with the lights on.
Thank you for the 'How to' video! Great method. We have the same Costco LED lights. The bulbs fill with water! We are in Washington State, so we get lots of rain. I have had to replace them. The LED Bulbs allow seepage. Dang.
The only issue that I've had so far with the lights is that some of them die pretty quickly, I've had to buy an extra 24 pack off of Amazon. Haven't noticed any water yet but crossing my fingers
The way how you did it with the first couple bulbs when you put them on really close and spread them out like a shower curtain but it’s the shower curtain hooks 🪝💡🔌🪫🔋🔦⚙️
Hi Yes I agree. I'm here looking for a solution to that very problem. I used similar zip ties and after a year in the AZ sun...even being "UV resistant". They are failing.

John, did you end up trimming off the excess strand and simply sealing the end of the wire? There is another video of that being done...I'm wondering can I cut the end of mine off?... Thanks
The excess string light? Nope, I ended up just continued it along my house under the gutter. I'm not sure about cutting the excess, I would probably just double it over. Hope that helps!
@@JohnHeng thanks John for the reply. Here is the video i found of the trim job. I'm hoping I don't ruin my set, but may try it. ua-cam.com/video/YUJC39f9wv0/v-deo.html
Hey John, thanks for the useful video. Question for you: why do you use the S hook on one end of the wire? I was thinking maybe to easily take down if needed, but can’t it already be removed via the turnbuckle?
Thanks! I just used the s-hook to make it easier to hook stuff on since I was doing this by myself while also filming. I think some of the eyelets that I had, the turnbuckle wouldn't have fit directly also. You can definitely just use a turnbuckle, s-hook just makes it a little easier. Hope that helps 🙂
The long black ones? Those are weather resistant 3/8" lag screws, I think they might have been either 5 or 6" long. The silver ones are eyelets that are linked in the description if that's what you were looking for
Hey sorry about that, I originally linked a 20-gauge wire but in the video, I used 20-gauge 4-strand wire (4x the wire!). I've updated it now and here's a better link: amzn.to/3sdVFdy. Hope this helps!
It's actually a decent amount. These are a warmer color but it's enough light to be able to have a meal, see what you're eating, and see people you're talking to. Wish I included it in the video, sorry!

Perfect
never thought about googling pilot holes size for bolts/screws, good tip
Very helpful. Pilot hole guide is a great tip. I’m using black guide wire for my project.

I did that to my yard buddy and like yours it looks SHARP
Ha! I was yelling inside my head, "wait! You forgot the turnbuckle!" LOL
Great video! Very clear and helpful instructions.
These came in yesterday I can't wait to put them up around my fire pit.
Nice job, dude. And don't worry about buying more zip ties than you need. They are good to have on hand for unexpected needs.
Looks great! You should have shown the lights at night.
THANK YOU JOHN VERY HELPFUL FOR A ROOKIE LIKE ME PEACE AND LOVE
Of course!!! Peace and love to you too and hope that you have a good time trying the project out

Great video, simple to the point and easy to follow!! Keep them coming!!
Thank you!! I'm glad you found it easy to follow :D
Run the cable through the eyelets on the bulb sockets before you crimp the ferrules next time to avoid zip ties altogether 👌
It takes a long time
It makes it heavier, too. And if you need to replace the string of lights, you'd need to cut the cable
The eyelet is facing the wrong direction for the cable
nice realistic instal, l enjoyed the explanation and how it turned out
Glad that you found it approachable!
Nice....will do this DIY project for my yard.
Hope you like it!
Thanks for sharing. I used idea and it worked out well.

Nice instruction video. Very helpful to my project. Thank you
You should try zig zagging the lights over the patio space to disperse the lights.
Thank you for the video and also the list of items from Amazon was great!! order them all.
Glad you enjoyed and hope your project turns out well!
Great video John ! Thank you for sharing this !
This is just what I’ve been looking for! Thanks!
Glad it helps!!
Great job man. I would recommend using small s hooks instead of zip ties for the lights bc zip ties degrade with the weather.
Hi Yes I agree. I'm here looking for a solution to that very problem. I used similar zip ties and after a year in the AZ sun...even being "UV resistant". They are failing.
I also agree about zip ties. The nylon will get brittle over time.
Nice very helpful video

Thanks! I ordered everything in your Amazon suggestion :)

Nice job!
Can you connect two strands of lights together? I have one run that's pretty long
Harbor Freight has some for 19.99 just got another set today.
BEST COMMENT EVER TY!
What camera do you use? It's nice
Good video 👍 quick question Which size of wire do you use to hang the light strings
He says 20 gauge on the video
goood job, dude! but why didnt u show us the night time look? i woulda loved to have seen that!

How do light strand connect to the other ??
I need you to come to North Carolina and do mines
On my way 😂
This one time... at bandcamp...I was confident I would hit wood.....
Nice.I need to do the same soon. Where you purchase that cable to hang the lights and how do you know the size you need ? Thanks.
I included a link in the description to something similar but I got my cable from Lowe's!
@@JohnHeng Thanks.
Can you shorten those lights by cutting the cord?
No you can't sadly, I had to loop mine over itself at the end!
How does it look at night

Festoon lighting
You did a good job
Are the lights solar
What black screws are those at 1:18?

Hey the wire you used in the video
Doesn’t match the link in your description
The one in the description is really thin

How much light does it put out when it’s night time?
It's actually a decent amount. These are a warmer color but it's enough light to be able to have a meal, see what you're eating, and see people you're talking to. Wish I included it in the video, sorry!
2W a bulb, i think
Why not run the wire through the eyes instead of the zip ties?
Pretty much need an external outlet?
Yes or there are solar lights available too.
I also have a video on my channel on how to install an outdoor outlet!
@@JohnHeng thanks
The cable link you got does not look the same as the one your using in the video
I tried my best to link one similar!--the one I got was from Costco and they don't sell them online.
how can I contact you for video review?
What do you mean?
I got a few zip ties for ya. Let me know if u need em.
💯 I ended up finding exactly one in my desk eventually 😂
Ah, five thirty seconds; AKA two and a half minutes
What a dad joke 😂
Silicone those holes- dry rot!!

You messed up man, you did not say, "thats what she said" many times...just saying.
That looks tacky
Can we put light bulbs with more power?
