I am a black man adopted by white parents. I started growing out my hair when I turned 18 and the comments, remarks, and opinions of my family hurt me. I took it Very personally. My black sisters had no problem growing theirs but as soon as the black male son grows his... I ignored their comments and continued to grow it. I have a big glorious afro now and I love it. I fucking love it. I have received many compliments from strangers. Not a single one from my family.
I'm so sorry your family has made discouraging remarks about your hair, sir. The double standards can be the most annoying, infuriating, and downright painful, especially when they come from people who are supposed to be the closest to you. I'm willing to bet that they are secretly jealous of your gorgeous head of hair. Continue to wear it proudly and be yourself! ❤️
You are a strong person. Anyone else would succumb to the pressure, especially from family, but you defied all comments and opinions and did it anyway. That's something that was inherited by your real Parents, something that is unique and rare. Always be yourself King.
This is one of the best natural hair documentaries produced! You've done an excellent job giving the stage to a vast variety of shades of Black people. Most of the other documentaries are very light complexion, and one-sided. You've done your research, and it is reflected in an A+ completed, convincingly compelling work. Thank you!
As a white man born in 1967, there was a lot of mystery regarding black hair. For instance, when I had my first "real" job, I didn't understand how a black woman could have one length of hair one day, then turn up with a longer length the next. However, sometime in the '90s, I believe a lot of that mystery unfurled and became public. After that, I believe a good portion of white people sort of understood a little of how the styling and such of black hair is.
I really love this documentary and will share it. Its also a global thing. I'm from the UK and we have the same issues so thank you for highlighting it xx
Thank you so much for your comment, Sophie! It's a shame that this is a global issue but hopefully one day this can be a thing of the past. I appreciate you sharing this video 😊💕
@@roselinec.6316 It really is and I truly think the natural movement is making bigger waves more than ever especially in our products too. The changes are happening for sure. You're welcome too ❤️💕
That's ridiculous smh. I'm sorry that you got those comments, especially in these times. Know that you are beautiful and no matter what people say, that fact doesn't change. Sending you love ❤
@@roselinec.6316 aww!! Thank you so much! I just had an online job interview for a corporation today and I wore my afro loud and proud!😁 I was interview for 2 separate positions at once. I think it went very well!
well my natural hair is baldness that started at 17. standards of beauty pressure people to do medical treatments instead of a simple hair piece. wearing a hair piece brings more stigma than being bald, and really I just want to be left alone. so i prefer to show my baldness even if i like the look of a certain wig or hair piece. wearing a wig or hair piece does NOT = shame of baldness, it is just a look
My God sister who is black has large gray curls. A friend of mine who is a white Jew ask me if she was prejudiced when I told him for years she's always used to term "good hair". 2 months ago I asked her what does that mean and she said something in regards to hear that's not nappy. Considering she's black, It sounds ridiculously weird. Personally, I don't like the term nor do I use it.
I dont think its bad if you like straight hair either, there is nothing wrong with it. I believe people should be able to wear their hair how ever they want without being criticized
Hi Tammy! This is actually the best place to reach me. In the description box, there's actually a link to my literature review and the entirety of this project.
Hairstyle should be anyone’s choice, as long as it’s clean, I like seeing all styles of hair, it’s a choice, and should be, unfortunately it’s not to others..
I do feel sorry for black people, must be awful having hair that grows in every direction and tge texture, we don't know how handy we have it, we are so lucky
I love my natural hair. No need to feel sorry for me dear. It’s not awful at all, it’s very versatile it can be styled short and curly one day, or in an Afro or longer and straight the next. Glad you love your own hair though, just like I love mine.

I'm so sick of people stereotyping and judging black women for our hair! Thank you for this video.

Thank you so much for your comment! As someone born in the late '90s this was an interesting perspective!
Our hairs naturally curly and of course if you put straightners in curly and tightly coiled hair the length will change
Why do white people need to "understand"out hair though Its honestly none of anyone's business to judge us for our hair for anything .
I really love this documentary and will share it. Its also a global thing. I'm from the UK and we have the same issues so thank you for highlighting it xx

Dont feel sorry for us...our hair is curly, coily, beautiful and voluminous. I would rather have my hair vs stick straight hair.
