    This is something that should be taught in schools and if you are a cultural studies major in college you should have to do an assignment on this in one of your classes. They should make it a rule in all businesses not to discriminate based on hair texture. Its not the style they hate its the texture. My best friend (who is biracial) was told to straighten her hair by her manager and it is nowhere near as kinky as mine. A craft store of all places. I know where NOT to look for a job.

      Why should "cultural studies"be taught in school, when a lot of children can't even write, talk, or do basic arithmetic correctly?

    I call them locs and not dreadlocs. The "dread" part was given by whites, meaning dreadful. I love locs. I've worn my hair natural for over 20 years and I wouldn't have it any other way.

    • @fetidcreeper
      @fetidcreeper 2 роки тому +6

      Pretty interesting etymology actually. Seems there's not much of an agreement on the origin, but I did find this
      "rope-like strands of hair formed by matting or braiding," 1960, from dread (adj.) + locks (see lock (n.2)). The style is said to be based on that of East African warriors. So called from the dread they presumably aroused in beholders, but Rastafarian dread (1974) also has a sense of "fear of the Lord," expressed in part as alienation from contemporary society.

    • @theorganicafro
      @theorganicafro 2 роки тому +3

      Actually the dread part wasn’t given by whites, “dread” in Jamaican patois is a term of respect… so the hairstyle was seen a a respectful style for their religion

    My hair is 💯 natural (locs) and there’s no way I would put chemicals in my hair to straighten it for anyone or any reason. I absolutely love myself. My hair is “Sacred” and “Creator” approved. Plus I know the spiritual importance of my natural hair and could care less what others think. Women of color need to stop listening to the bs they have been fed down through the ages regarding beauty and just “love themselves” and stop trying to conform to non-sense.

    I find Afro hair very beautiful, I don't see a trouble-maker honestly, and I am white with straight hair...I don't like hair that looks fake generally speaking (goes also for white ladies), and I feel sad that women of colour feel pressured into styling their hair by using chemicals into the usual straight I see in the mirror every day, it is simply a waste. My mom is a natural curly and I love her hair just as it is, even if straight apparently is deemed more professional and pretty. I just think we should all get over the straight blonde hair as a benchmark of beauty and perfection, it's ridiculous.

      This is what I always tell my daughter, I let her know that white people are the ones who made hot combs...to straighten their hair. And that most white ppl. Don't have straight hair they have hair like mine which I don't show outside. Which as you said wavy even curly and also gets frizzy in the heat. Your absolutely right that's most Asian hair silky extra straight. But because white women go on TV after they have blow dried it and put a flat iron through it to make it smooth and straighter, then that's what most others view white people have very straight silky hair. But it's all just brainwashing.

    • @Leif208
      @Leif208 Рік тому

      Actually, that's not true. It's true for some "white" people, especailly those from southern Europe but also some from mid and northern. Many northern and eastern Europeans have natural straight hair.

      @@gilyanajune7081 Actually incorrect. Why do you (and others) lump all Europeans into the same category, when we are actually of different ethnicities? Although some have frizzy, far more, especially northern (and eastern) Europeans, have very straight hair. However, probably the majority of all Europeans combined, on average, have slightly wavy hair.
