Tip Toe 🐢 is the most popular Salcata tortoise on the planet. Nice to see him chilling out. Update on Ms. Max 🐢 she is getting a new house today. She outgrew the old house. As for the house I use a clay flower pot with a door cut out of the side. New habitat in late May.

Well, as long as he is alert, curious, interested in his surroundings, that helps him to thrive along with necessary nutrients. It’s still only Spring and there have been cool nights and cloudy days, so I would guess his metabolism is still picking up after his winter illness, which did take a lot out of him. You are doing great Tiptoe, with Mama Caitlyn and your extended Doran family, you are getting the best love, nurturing and attention! Peace, Love and Blessings, Buddy, you are loved by many around the world!!

Oh I can tell he wants those yummy treats. You can almost see how he is thinking how to get to them. I also feel like I can tell in his face when he is in a “mood”. lol

Awe.. so sweet 😊 I had to take a break from tip toe after I lost my almost 3yr old black leopard Tortoise to a resp problem... He was so loving 😢 but, I have pics and memories 🎉 tortoises are so amazing, very smart, and wise 😊 best to tip toe and family 🎉

Make sure he's eating enough of the right things (too much fruit/veggies that aren't deep leafy greens and/or not enough fiber can cause digestive issues) and make sure he's warm enough!
My tortie HATES eating and drinking enough, so I actually have to hand feed her, wrapping the good stuff (hay, unpreferred greens, etc.) inside a "burrito " of greens she will eat.
Plus: mist or wet down his food for added hydration too.

Oh man, I really hope he is feeling okay. If you try a softer hay consistency and soak in water with a half cup of Mazuri pellets for 30 minutes... That might do the trick.
I've found that Oxbow's compressed hay biscuits "Harvest Stacks" are a great consistency for torts. You break them up and the compressed biscuit expands. The hay in this form is just softer and shorter pieces.... Easier for them to eat.
And it gets even softer after soaking in water. When you soak with Mazuri pellets, it gets the smell of the pellets all over the hay and the torts really love that. Works like a charm!

Maybe beet and carrot *juices* could be used to "dye" hay, then re-dry it out and give it to him. Add color and smells and vitamins to it, making it more appealing for his appetite? So glad to see him standing tall and moving well! "Don't eat the bowl though!" LOL

So the reason I wanted to tell you was she was just swimming underwater right next to this huge sea tortoise... Probably one of tiptoes cousins..... You know .....from 1 million years ago.
It's those teenager years... just wants to lay around and eat fun food... I was the same when I was a teen too. 😊😊

Hey there this may sound dumb but cut your vegetables small. Iike a french chef and toss it with the nutrient rich foods maybe the scent alone will make him eat the hay better.
How about making a salad dressing... a little watermelon and a few strawberries, some water and put in blender. Then sprinkle on the grass and hay to make them smell like fruit, but he can't 'pick them off' the grass. These videos remind me of when I was gifted a Texas tortoise back before the endangered species act (around '68~'69). He was an adult when I got him, and what a wonderful animal to have around. He used to run up to me licking his chops looking for food. We had a good size yard of grass but we provided extra goodies from time to time... He would bulldoze the fence I made around the carrots and cucumbers I tried to grow till dad helped me make a proper fence. I miss him greatly.
I think that he needs something natural but safe to clean him out and promote digestion.

Is it possible that the landscapers might be adding chemicals to the lawn to help it grow without telling you? That might be why he is not interested in the grass..
I have a question, do you treat your grass with pesticides? I would think not because you feed him it but just asking
