@@timreierson26But how much longer can that hold true when your CGC 9.8 has multiple bends in it? Or your 9.9 is miscut and off centered? How long until people decide they'd rather buy the book that will actually be the grade the label says instead of just buying the label? And if I can buy the same key book for my PC for 10% less, you're d@mn right I'll do that.

It seems like CGC continues to neglect its customers, which is frustrating. I’m still puzzled why anyone would choose their services. Just like the example you mentioned of a comic with a bend in the inner well, I’ve also experienced this issue, though mine came from the secondary market. Buyers in the secondary market should be extra cautious and confirm the condition of the comic with the seller before making a purchase.

In my case, I have(thankfully) not yet had any significant issues with my cgc submissions, although imo, it is impossible to discount the many testimonies I am reading all over the internet. I just paid for an elite yearly membership this past april and I just sent in my first submission. I will try to get my money's worth. If any of my books come back with this problem, then I am done until it's fixed or until I am comfortable with an alternative option. Fingers crossed on my latest submission.

People use CGC because their books demand more money in the marketplace. I will never buy a non-CGC book unless the other grading services books sell consistently above CGC. Go ahead and send your books to CBCS or PSA if you don’t care about maximizing your return.

CGC knows that people will still send their books to them regardless. No other service is a legitimate competitor. Until a serious competitor arises (where their books sell consistently more than CGC), CGC can take these risks. For those who say they won’t send their books to CGC - CGC is calling your bluff. It is just a matter of time before you cave. CGC knows they have the upper hand here. They are banking on buyers like me who will never buy a non-CGC graded book because their market prices significantly lag those of CGC. When you consider the high volume of books that are still being submitted to CGC as we speak, I’ll bet that the percentage of those that are damaged in the process is very, very tiny. However, it is that tiny % that gets magnified (and overblown) by the comic community.

CGC needs to fix this quickly-it is clearly a mechanical failure in the encasement design! CBCS's case design is superior; their label now looks better than CGC's, and Beckett is a far better trusted business in the collectibles world. IMO CGC commanding higher prices is about to switch with a hard correction, similar to the way Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash swapped values in a single day (didn't stick but same concept). That event was called "The Flipping," and I see a similar event approaching, where more CGC comics are inspected and found to have deteriorated or developed new defects while encapsulated. I say let "The Flipping" begin, and CBCS should command the higher price, while all CGC graded comics should be devalued to compensate for the inferior encapsulation and case quality.

Every time CGC updates their slabs there seems to be a learning curve on their end for some reason. I remember when, a few years ago, they went with new slabs and a bunch of books were coming back damaged. I still have a book they damaged but still managed to get a 9.8 from them and this was 6-7 years ago. The more this happens the more I think older CGC labels will get priced at a premium. Also makes me think about going more raw.

@@AutomaticComics the question of whether or not this results in any long term loss of business is up in the air at the moment, though. Are people who like to slab going to just stop slabbing? Maybe cbcs takes advantage of this in a way that closes the gap, but that isn't a definite and even if it does happen, how long would it take? I know I'm not the only one hoping JSA can hit the ground running when they start grading. This hobby needs a truly viable alternative.

Hi, Ryan. Have you had any books affected by the curvature?

I’ve stopped submitting since December when the reholder situation started and haven’t sent in since. I was considering submitting about a month ago when all this started getting reported and it put me on hold again.
There’s no way I’m going to send in books and risk either damage or difficulty selling them/returns with poor displaying comics.

@@AutomaticComics This has been going on for far longer since late 2022 based on some books I have.

EXTREMELY POOR response from CGC. To conclusively say it does not damage the comic book is outright false. Purely defensive and financially motivated. This is scummy corporate speak. I have stood by CGC until this point; however, now considering pulling out. The economy is terrible, so everyone is desparate to make their $$, apparently including CGC. Cool heads will prevail.

When someone sends in 50 of the same books, I don't feel bad. Again. Most people who send books into cgc are just looking for profit. Don't like it, don't grade your books.
