    I have been driving a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan SE for the last 10 years. No issues whatsoever. Great car. But I am a maintenance nut. All fluids look like brand new all of the time. Tire rotations, trans service, brakes. I do it all early and regularly. I am the only one to ever service this vehicle from day one. The car has not seen a dealership since I bought it. I don't let anyone touch my van and she's strong, quiet and dependable.

      Bought my 2013 in 2015. It’s my wife’s wheelchair transport. With 54,000miles, it needs a new transmission. Also, the drivers side headrest deployed the other day for no reason.
      It will cost around $700 to replace.

    I have driven my two Grand Caravans over 200,000 miles each. I had to replace the fuel pump on one and an A/C compressor on the other one. They both ran great and were dependable cars. Caravans are my favorite car... I'm buying a 2020 Caravan next month. They should have never stopped making them... also, they maintain their resale value better than most cars.

    2019 DGC here. 100000km. My only issue is cracked vinyl on the drivers seat, and the common paint bubbles on the aluminum hood. Aside from that so far so good. Love this thing.

    The video didn't include the most widely known problems with the caravan, specifically the oil filter housing and the cam followers. That said, I've had 11 vehicles from 9 different manufacturers over the years, and our 2013 Caravan is the most reliable vehicle of the lot. It has 265k Atlantic Canada kms on it now and it's still in great shape.

    • @user-us1dk6lh2r
      @user-us1dk6lh2r 26 днів тому

      You forgot that "quirky shifting" trans and all of the DGCV's having that annoying rear left rattle over bumps. We've had 4 of them in our fleet now and all 4 had the same pesky issue with the cam roller bearings wiping out cam lobes round 200K. 1 to 2 day fix, but a pricey fix for new cam(s) and all new rockers/lifters. Other issue (the we've never had) is the "clutches" on the alternators. OEM brakes were another issue but we learned early on to get the "high carbon" ones from AZ or better yet the slotted/cross drilled ones for the front and have yet to have any warped rotors even under the worst of braking. My biggest complaint.... THE QUIT MAKING THEM!

  • @cplinstructor

    Misleading title. This is not in anyway “10 common problems,” this is just a list of recalls. Check your VIN to see if it has any pending unresolved recalls. Don’t see any? Then you don’t have any of these “common problems.” This video is pointless click bait.

    A number of years ago I found a problem with a 1996 Plymouth electrical system. It caught on fire just down the street from work.Luckily, I had an available fire extinguisher to fight it right away. Problem was that it kept re-igniting. Luckily, I also had a wrench set available to disconnect the battery. The last shot from the fire extinguisher got it out. My garage-man replaced the wiring harness and in the process discovered the cause. There was a metal tie-down clip on the alternator that had slowly melted though the wire insulation on the heavy guage wire going directly to the battery. I contacted the Canadian Transportation Safety Department in Ottawa and they had me ship the burnt harness to them for analysis. Turns out that they had many engine fires on that model and thought that it was due to a fuel leak. But there had also been fires while parked overnight and even in owers garages. Turns out that few of these Caravans were still on the road and they couldn't justify a re-call.

      BASED. That same 6 speed trans is in all 4 of our DGV's well as my wife's Avenger and all of them are HORRIBLE. Dealer did a re-map on the 2012 Avenger not to long after we got it and it did no good. Even the stealerships will tell you these trannies were always crappy shifters and often problematic. Knock on wood we've never dropped one, but them damn failing needle bearings on the valvetrain rockers that ALL go bad round the 200K mark wiping cam lobes out. Gotten to be an expert on changing them and it is irritating!

      @RealKansasMan 7 місяців тому +2

      The oil cooling sending unit on my 2011 Dodge Caravan failed last winter. At first I thought my engine block had cracked wide open due to the large amounts of oil running down the side of the engine and all over the top of the transmission. When I would drive, it would leave a trail of oil wherever I went, especially when taking turns. Thankfully, I had got it replaced and no issues since.

    • @dandyfunhouse
      @dandyfunhouse 7 місяців тому +1

      @@RealKansasMan I had that happen and it was so bad I lost all my oil. Had it towed to the shop who replaced the cooler. One month later I developed engine tick from the roller bearings probably as a result of them being starved of oil for that brief moment. Van lasted another year like that before the transmission went.

      I have a 2006 purchased used from a neighbor who purchased it for his daughter and she didn't want it. Transmission was slipping a little then and only got worse. Now it will move but won't pull a small hill so it's sitting in our parking lot until I can figure out what to do with it. Been told a few times to scrap it and get something else as it's cheaper than a new tranny. I estimate $5,000-$6,000 to put a new one in and to have it towed from here to wherever to fix. I am low income living in government apartments and not able to save much if anything and seriously struggling financially. I heard there are people who will help someone in my position. I am 52 needing my only vehicle and disabled my whole life just trying to survive. I am stuck and it's a depressing place to be mentally. Having to walk, bike or bus around is bad too. And the Kats van doesn't travel far out from the area. Sometimes at least every couple of months I need to travel out of our city to another city and I have to take the Tenncare van and that's rough. You can't just stop when you need to eat or use the restroom. I get car sick riding but not driving. I hurt because of my arthritis and it's hard. I am hoping for some miracle to get my van fixed or get something else. I have just put new tires all the way around on it, with other brand new parts and a full tank of gas. Rough place to be honestly.

    We have a problem with the speedometer and the total speedometer turns off suddenly and comes on suddenly sometimes

    • @MaxTheCarGuy
      @MaxTheCarGuy  Рік тому +1

      It sounds like there may be an issue with the speed sensor or the wiring connecting the sensor to the speedometer. The speed sensor is a small device located on the transmission or transaxle that sends a signal to the speedometer to display the vehicle's speed.
      When the sensor or wiring becomes faulty, it can cause intermittent problems like the speedometer turning off and on suddenly. This issue can also cause inaccurate speedometer readings or a speedometer that doesn't work at all.

    I smell gas on heavy acceleration mechanic said it was normal is it ?

    • @MaxTheCarGuy
      @MaxTheCarGuy  Рік тому +5

      If you smell gasoline during heavy acceleration in your Dodge Grand Caravan, it is not normal and should be investigated further by a qualified mechanic.
      While there are some mild fuel smells that may be considered normal under certain circumstances, such as on a hot day when the fuel has expanded, a strong gasoline smell during acceleration is a cause for concern.
      A gasoline odor may indicate a fuel leak or an issue with the fuel system that could potentially lead to a fire or other serious safety hazards.

    I'm in my 80s and over the years have had more Fords than all the other brands together. My last two Fords were so bad that I decided I would never buy another Ford (Tempo and Topas) several of my kids had Tauruses. All nice cars but frequency of repair was awful, the Tempo was the worst car I have eveer owned. . arround 2001 we boiught our first (used) Dodge caravan sold it at 180,000 miles (awesome little car) and bought a 2016 caravan plus in 2003 we bought a new Dodge ram. All three have been excellent trouble free cars, better than any of the Fords we owned in the past. We love our 2016 caravan . It just turned over 100,000 miles and has been completely trouble free. This video sounds kind of fishy to me.
