Swiss band Krokus is one of the most underrated European rock bands ever. I loved them very much and never understood what happend to them since they´d belong to the biggest arenas around.
Back in the 1980s, Rock n'Roll was a lifestyle for many young people. We were being bombarded with the second wave of the British invasion with new sounds and musical genres, but Rock n' Roller's never wavered for the likes of the Thompson Twins, Duran Duran, INXS, or Billy Idol. Heavy metal was it, and Iron Maiden, Ozzy, Zepplin, The Stones, and all their underlings like Def Leppard, Krokus, Helix, and Wasp, just to name a few, were all we had time for. Now that I am older, I can appreciate Elton John, Billy Joel, and a host of others I would have never mentioned from 1979 to 1992! There is something to be said about getting older and appreciating all musical influences to become part of one's repertoire. But it sure feels good to go back in the time capsule and remember standing out in the audience with no cameras and that wonderful smell that filled arenas in those days; the half-naked women walking around in lingerie.
I didn't need anybody's permission to also like the Thompson Twins, Duran Duran, INXS, or Billy Idol in addition to hard rock & heavy metal. I just DID, if I did. As simple as that.
@@nathanlansford1882 Bands like Thompson Twins had that strict policy of being "anti rock, synth pop or post-punk" like Dead or alive, Depeche Mode or Human League ;D
@@dreizweieins5348 Yes! Duran also had their roots in Punk Rock, and what Andy did later on with Steve Jones was absolutely top-notch melodic Hard Rock!
Vi a Krokus por primera y única vez en Chile en el verano de 1985 en el Festival de Viña del Mar. Tenía 14 años. Ahora tengo 53. Geniales los Krokus y en especial Marc.
One of the best singers back then. Even Dickinson, Halford and Johnson missed notes and couldn't reach their studio performance under live circumstances. Storace did!
too much changes in the band, endless tours and album productions in very short time from 1979 to 1986 with only very short time off, music style changes on the albums (if you compare 1979 to 1986)... after 1988 they were only active in Switzerland/Europe with different line-ups untill 2008, then they started a reunited "classic" line-up in the music style of 1979 to 1983
In 1983 was a great year of Metal . Krokus just only one was great band from Switzerland .in this motion :Marc Strace/vocals ...Steve Pace/drums...Fernando Von Arb/lead guitar..Mark Kohler /bass ..another one on guitar not sure may be Mandy Mayer who later was in shadow of Steve Howe for Asia,, one of super group in 80s.
+gmlasam That's what I thought when I watched this back in 1983 ;-) I didn't really like AC/DC at that time, but after seeing Krokus I became a big fan of both bands.
You can see the talent that was yet to find it's magic, as unfortunately this is before they went in a much heavier direction with the upcoming 'Headhunter' album, songs that took the band to a whole different level. Within the next year or two their concerts absolutely rocked with songs almost entirely from Headhunter and 'The Blitz', which was not as raw as Headhunter, but still rocked.🤘
Incorrect actually. 'Headhunter' was already out when this show was filmed in December 1983. This was basically the shock unveiling of the new line-up after they had fired Chris von Rohr, with Mark Kohler switching from rhythm guitar to bass and Patrick Mason (ex-Crown, soon to join Fast Forward) joining on rhythm. Fernando was already moving toward a more glam look going blonde, foreshadowing the career killing move with 'The Blitz' and 'Change of Address', neither a patch on MRV, 'Hardware', OVAAT, and 'Headhunter'.
Marc had only just joned Krokus when the AC/DC offer to audition came in. Things wre looking great with Krokus and AC/DC were nowhere near the superstars yet they soon became with BIB. So Marc didn't see the point of leaving a great situation for another band that was only a couple of steps ahead of Krokus at the time.
AC/DC asked him to be their singer when Bon Scott died but he turned them down so they asked Brian Johnson because Bon had seen him live and said to the bsnd if anything ever happens to me you gotta get this guy to replace me ... Rest is history
These guys are actually pretty damn underrated for what they do.
I believe so to, they were actually pretty good in Dortmund.

Well, INXS and Billy Idol are pretty cool as well :)

Didn't matter to me as an American & I didn't care.
It still doesn't--& I still don't. ;)

I had the pleasure of meeting Marc Storace on the MORC X!!!
One of the best singers back then. Even Dickinson, Halford and Johnson missed notes and couldn't reach their studio performance under live circumstances. Storace did!
top
People say there's not many Krokus fans' I've been one since 79-80 Foss high, Tony D.
I saw them this year open up for Sammy Hagar and again opening up for the Priest in 85.
wow
One of the best Suisse Import Bands in the World !!!!!!
🎸🙋♀️Always loved Krokus! Why weren’t they bigger? Music biz politics maybe.

Saw them at Chicago Fest early 80's. Have always liked this band!

Nirandorn Minrintara I think this is Patrick Mason on Guitar
Marc Storace
The rhythm guitarist is Patrick Mason (ex-Crown) who left again after the 'Headhunter' tour and joined Fast Forward.
Krokus was not bad, not bad at all. Metal Rende-Vouz is a great album.
Damn…the vocalist sounds just like Bon Scott and even looks like him
I was thinking AC/DC should ask him to replace Brian Johnson - who is on leave - due to hearing problem: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Storace

thats.funny.I.never.thought.of.that.but.youre.definately.right..
Actually acdc asked him to be their frontman once but he refused because krokus was a big deal back then
I think he looks like Costa Cordalis but sounds better 😂
I saw them the same year on my 18th birthday. 1983 Damn I'm old
моя самая любимая рок группа в юности. Крокус
Remember the tv show, i was 19!
KROKUS in their prime, awesome! \m/
For Me, The Best Line Up 🥁🎤🎸⚡🔥💪😎🤘
Is it Steve Pace on the drums or the guy after him?
Krokus rules!!!
Fernando always had a great stage presence.
cooooollll fantastic
The best song AC/DC never wrote
They might not be as big as AC/DC I like them as good as AC/DC. Saw them live in the early 80's they kick ass!!
Bon Scott from AC/DC ( rip 😢 )
Muy buen rock gran banda de primera clase saludos desde México
Привет из России, кактус рулит.
krokus and scorpions made it big in the States around that time
Long stick...is such a great song 🤘

Chris Von Rohr had just left. Mark Kohler is on bass, and Patrick Mahassen is on guitar. He didnt last long though
I guess the singer was offered Bon' s position but he thought Krokus was going to be bigger than AC /DC.
Myth. Never happened.
Yes it did in 1980 you can listen to the interview on blabbermouth
Understandable in a way. Living in Bon's shadow would be tough.

Всем Металлерам Огромный привет!!
Marc is really good here..
Long stick goes boom = the best song title ever😂
ACDC +Heavy Metal=Krokus
F Von Ard Is A Hell Of A Good Leadguitarist Thats A Fact.Yeah....
🤘🤘🤘
Fernando was like Rudolph trying to be Matthias, with Mandy patiently supporting in the shadows ;P
There is no Mandy here. This is Patrick Mason/Mahassen (ex-Crown) who left after the 'Headhunter' tour and joined Fast Forward.
AC/DC thought he was too much of a Bon sound a like.
Saw 16 3 1982 Saarbrücken Aula
Better guitar riffs than acdc and better songs and better voice unbelieveable
I definitely prefer them to AC/Dc
They were live better than ACDC. Also Fastway was live by far better. Believe Me.
I'm 59 and i know what i talking about.
Weeeeeell, lets call it a draw😊
AC/DC asked him to be their singer when Bon Scott died but he turned them down so they asked Brian Johnson because Bon had seen him live and said to the bsnd if anything ever happens to me you gotta get this guy to replace me ... Rest is history
Very similar riff to 'Love Hungry Man' by AC/DC.
Voice like Bon Scott
I go boom on this ... Fuck this is heavy shit
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
Sounds like AC DC👍
I need my short stick to go boom
What's the lineup here apart from Marc and Fernando?
Patrick Mason Guitars
Mark Kohler Bass
Steve Pace Drums
This gig was i guess on the day or the next day when Chris von Rohr was fired.
American Woman was kick ass!!
Swiss Metal!
Great band, but a very bad playlist( They should to play their hits like Headhunter, Night Wolf, Screaming in the Night.
They did play their hits.....from the albums before Headhunter. And what about Eat The Rich?
🎸🙋♀️Agree!
Its metal ......arghhhhhhhh
Dont take down the flag, Sweet 80. Every statue the dictator’s thugs knock down, we raise a flag
AC|DC!!!
Ac/dc miss making millions and millions and billions and billions with this singer after bon Scott death so sad everyone has a price damn so sad
I saw them in 83' and 85'.
Saw them at Glasgow Apollo 21-02-81,they were excellent.
acdc should have got this singer
FODAAAAAAA...CARALHOOOOO...AUMENTA..PORRAAAAAA
Acdc copy cats sounds even more acdc than acdc
You yourself are the thousandth who claims that this band sounds like ac/dc
Hypocritical all the way
ЗАБОЙНО.
I was at this festival!
I went the day after. Krokus was replaced by Quite Riot. Great festival
