      +thiltzy1 did you ever get news about those dentures, the time period,if they belonged to the same person and if there was a body lower in the ground.

    • @thiltzy1
      @thiltzy1  9 років тому +1

      No body that we are aware of, we think they are late 1890's but not sure. Talked to a dentist for their opinion and thats what we came up with

      +thiltzy1 really fascinating. i was wondering if the silver was not a way of always having passage on you if ever something happened ,or even a form of disguise for a n actor or a fraudster.

      +thiltzy1 Maybe the dentist  who made them was traveling through the woods  & they fell out of his bag when he encountered a bear & quickly had to run up a tree : ) poor guy!

    I've watched thousands of MD videos. Those teeth take the cake and eat it too. Craziest thing I've seen. Saw the pictures earlier and now I get to see them dug. Not that it overshadows all the good early relics and coins you guys find. Your videos are always worth watching.

    Were any of those toofuses marked "G.W?" If we imagine early American history, we know George had a number of false choppers made over the years, including a set of floating wooden beauties, right after he'd sneezed his uppers over the side of the boat while crossing the Potomac River. When his dentist was forced to flee and hide from the Red Coats advance, he sought refuge with his brother in law's wife, who was living alone because her hubby was away battling the British Navy. The dentist hid them, but was shot by the brother in law when he returned unexpectedly eight months later, so they were never returned to George. Seriously though, a one of a kind find and the hunt wouldn't have been complete without a spoon.

    That is so bizarre! I too found a stash of false teeth! I found them on a step old river bank dump that I noticed by the bottles sticking out of the bank.There were 20 sets with various numbers of teeth in them from full sets down to only 3-4 teeth left in the top or bottom plates. Plus another 33 blank ones that were all stacked up in the ground. The material of the ones I found were much deeper red in color and more of a real hard type rubber or something similar but not bakelite. This had to have been a local dentist that dumped these there......Thanks for posting this....really made my day....but destroyed MY strange hunting story! haha

    Hey Todd and Dave, just happened across this and laughed. One day while detecting I dug up a handful of individual teeth about 30 of them (no skull to be found). Lol Probably a dentist lived at that site... I showed the teeth to my dentist at my next teeth cleaning and he was amazed. He said they were definitely human and could tell they were from mid-late 1800's by the dental work. He cringed because the way they were sawed off and oozing with some kind of weird clumpy metal. With no pain meds like today... anyway, fun find!!

    That bottle is where the term "Pop" bottle came from. The cap is inside and held in place by the pressure of the carbonated liquid. to open you would hit down on the wire end and the lid would "pop" into the bottle and let you drink. They would refill them and just pull the cap back up into place.

    Here's my take on the false teeth; a dog would take his owner's false teeth when he was asleep at night, while they were soaking in Everdent, go outside and bury them. When he'd get a new set, the dog kept doing it over and over, burying them in the same spot every time.....until the owner either died of starvation or ran out of money. Whaddaya think? Lol! BTW, great video!

    They must not have been very good at sewing buttons on their clothing back in the day! LOL
    Nice finds! I love that bottle! I wonder what it's worth. ?
    Actually, you have two "sets" of false teeth. An upper and lower would be one set.

      +alan30189 alan, it wasn't that they were bad at sewing it's just that they had to work their land everyday to survive

      +Numisaccent Yeah antique fakes are still antiques. There is a type of old fusse pocket watch called "continental fakes" which were usually Dutch but had phony English signatures with "London" as the place of origin to make people believe they were made in England. Today they are still collectible.

    DAMN I miss cellar holes...I moved to coastal SC...deep time sure, but you can't dig cellar holes in the swamps...that's called a swimming pool. The ONLY way I've found to locate settlements is set low tone to iron then dig all non ferrous in the woods when I get lots of iron.

    • @thiltzy1

    I was surprised to see that there was no tarnishing evident on the silver portion of that denture. It makes me wonder if it's silver or an alloy of gold. It was my belief that silver wasn't used for dental work because of its ability to tarnish. You may want to have that metal tested because it may be "white gold".

    Todd, I've heard you say more than once that you've turned sensitivity way down. I'm a novice at cellar hole hunting here in Maryland and have been using 2-tone ferrous with disc way down at 4 but sensitivity up to about 90 on a Fisher F75. How do you find lowering the sensitivity to help in detecting buttons, coins and brass?

    • @thiltzy1
      @thiltzy1  9 років тому

      +Michael McCullough Hi Michael, I only lower sensitivity in heavily infested iron areas. The higher sensitivity results in the coil picking up more and more targets and noise so lowering your sensitivity reduces all that noise and allows me to isolate a good target much easier in all the iron. Hope that helps some

    i understand real human teeth from cadavers were used in early colonial times. that could date your teeth, xray em maybe to see if the roots are on the teeth still. Washington did have some human teeth sets.

    Not 4 sets, only two. Two upper dentures, two lower dentures. I'm betting they fit together. Reason I know this, is, I wear dentures. The ones with the full plate are the uppers, the ones shaped like a "U" are the lower. Probably tossed out when grandpa died. Who wants to keep teeth around?

    • @topherjoe1
      @topherjoe1 8 років тому

      +Heavyhaul Exactly what I was thinking, 2 sets and of no use to anyone but the person they are made for therefore disposable when that person is gone. Why 2 sets you may ask? If you wear dentures, you know how it feels to be without. Better safe than sorry, have a spare and never be without.
