Hi! Nice video! It helped me to get started.
For other users: Make sure you export your files on 16bit. If you use 32 bit, which might be the default on your DAW, the RC 300 will not recognize them.
Also, after you upload them, if the tracks are not exactly the same length the RC 300 might change the tempo on some of them. To prevent this, you need to go on the edit button of each track and turn Sync Time and Sync Loop off.

❤ Go to system and switch the USB mode to systems.
That is the only way I got it to go to my laptop.
I watched this tutorial and tried this a million times, but could not get my RC 300 to be identified as an external drive on my laptop.
This is because I followed every instruction about switching the USB mode to audio.
I downloaded the drivers from Roland for my specific windows version and yet still nothing.
Then I switched the USB mode to system.
My laptop identified it immediately and allowed me to download all of the music Wav files and data to my laptop.
Now I can finally delete all the tracks and start recording new stuff again.
But now I know how the RC300 works,
and I'm super excited to have a fresh canvas.
Round two is going to be so much better! So excited!
I just had to post this in case anyone else was in tech-hell despair.
Sending love to musicians. Enjoy! ❤

    Important:
One thing I think you might not have mentioned, if anyone is having trouble make sure on the RC 300 that you go into system, USB mode, make sure you select storage if you want to access the files. If you have audio selected it will not work.

The BOSS RC-300 will display unSupportFormat" if you attempt to import an audio file that isn't in a usable format.
The RC-300 accepts stereo .WAV files that are 16-bit with a sample rate of 44.1kHz.
Audio that was purchased from an online music store such as Amazon or iTunes, or ripped from a CD, are usually MP3 or m4a audio files and will not import into the RC-300. You can use iTunes, Windows Media Player, Audacity, or other free programs available on the internet to convert these files to .WAV. Refer to your program's documentation on how to perform this conversion.
If you're sure you have a 16-bit stereo .WAV file at a 44.1kHz sample rate, and it still won't import into the RC-300, then the file may have embedded metadata, or "tags," that are causing the error. This can happen with files that come from DAWs ("Digital Audio Workstations"), other audio programs or sample libraries.
You can strip this extra information from the file by converting it to Apple Lossless or FLAC format. After removing the information, convert that file back to .WAV. once again.

My rc300 is displaying “unsupported format” (or whatever) for memory slot #92. I’ve checked to make sure it’s empty by connecting to my Mac by usb. Keeps saying there’s something in there when I unplug. How can I erase what’s not there to have that memory slot back?? Help please!

Hi Bruce, Good video once again. One thing I would like to recommend is to first disconnect the USB drive from the computer first before unplugging the USB key. Not doing so could result in the loss of all the RC-300 data.

Great video - I'd add that once you've gotten done transferring the data and you've unplugged the usb cable go back into the system menu on the rc-300 and set it to audio or it will keep trying to re-connect in USB file storage mode versus audio mode.

Thanks Vince for the video, I'm actually having an issue where I plug in the usb to my computer and I get nothing. I don't get the "usb idleing storage" message that you get. Any ideas why I'm not getting the message, i've tried numerous cables, ive tried a pc and a mac and still nothing, anyone have any ideas? Thanks

One more thing, when I hit system and then cycles through to toggle storage in usb mode, i don't even get "usb mode" all I get is "usb input: audio" thats it.

To me, you should switch from Audio to Storage. Have a look at Page 36 of the manual and follow the step by step procedure (down right corner of the page). If it doesn't work, I guess your unit as a problem... maybe do a factory reset ? (Page 40)... Good luck !

I had the same issue. Here are some of my notes on how to quickly set up the loop station for file transfers.
Hope they help. (This procedure is assuming your LT auto downloaded the correct drivers). Pretty straight forward once you do it, but can be tricky to locate your first time.
      - Connect USB cable to LT
On the Boss RC-300, power it on and then:
      - Hit 'System' button 4 times to get to (Sys:USB IN Level)
      - Hit right arrow button 3 times to get to (Sys:USB Mode - AUDIO)
      - Use dial spinner to move from (AUDIO to STORAGE)
      - Hit the 'Exit' button then the screen will change to (USB STORAGE Idling...).
      - Windows will open on LT and then you can transfer/copy files as per normal.
      To Use Loop station again.
      - Disconnect USB cable
      - Wait until screen says (INIT MEMORY)
      - Should be good to go.
      Cheers,

Thanks, Dave! Glad I could help. Unfortunately there does not appear to by any access to the Rhythm pattern selections. What I'll do sometimes is use a very simple pattern, like a high-hat, as a click track, if needed. So you'll need to have the drums integrated right into the audio tracks, or create a separate WAV file and reserve one track for rhythm. You can always dub music over so it's not solely rhythm. Then don't save (Write) it, so next time you'll have a clean drum track again.

Not you have to restart your RC-300 if you switch from USB Mode Audio to Storage. Then, assuming you have the RC-300 drivers installed, it should pop up in Windows Explorer like a thumb drive 👍

Hi Clay! before the RC-300 I was playing with the RC-50 and about upload/download
the wave files was easy to do. Now with the RC-300 it doesn't work at all! My files from the 50 are "unsupported " by the 300! It was easy as you show here, but now…would you something to say about this? (MacOsX) Thanks

      Hi Nilo,
Having been involved in a lot of embedded computer design myself, I would suspect that they changed the file structure from the RC-50 to the RC-300 in order to accommodate new features. ~bb

    • @clayhorsemusic

Use one of the various utilities to download from YT to a file on your computer. Preferably just download the audio portion to make it easier to handle. Use a DAW to import the MP3 audio file, and export it as a WAV.

I have stripped meta data, tried loops, bounces to wav 44.1 and 16 bit.

+Edward Lewis Edward, make sure your WAV are stereo ! You could use mono files with the RC-50, but you have to have Stereo files with the RC-300. Also be aware of the caracters available to name your wav ! (page 37 of the user manual)

    Hello there!
    Thanks for uploading this.
By any chance, do you know why, anytime I export my files to the computer, the Reverb effect I recorded the track with dissapears? For instance, when I record vocals with reverb effect on, if I play it on the pedal it's OK, but on the computer the effect is gone...?? As if the files weren't recorded with effect...
    Cool video btw!

Arman J.C. It shouldn't. Make sure you are not clicking on "bypass effects" or something similar on you DAW when you bounce.

    • @clayhorsemusic
      @clayhorsemusic  10 років тому

It sounds like perhaps the ROLAND folder/file structure in the RC-300 memory has been accidentally corrupted. Perhaps you "Moved" the ROLAND folder to the iMac, rather than "Copying" it and leaving the original RC-300 ROLAND folder intact? Maybe try this: see if the RC-300 ROLAND folder, and all the internal Track folders are still OK on the RC-300. Delete the WAV files from inside the Track folders, then try shutting down the system and restarting it. Once you understand the structure, you can manually create or repair folders by hand (e.g. name corruption, etc.). You have to be very careful with the RC-300's folder/file structure, because if it is changed, the RC-300's microcomputer will not know what to do with it and behave oddly.

I've seen that happen before, when you connect a USB device and you don't get a window to pop up on your screen. In that case, find the "Computer" icon or directory entry and double-click on it. It will show you the various disk drives, DVD players, etc. on your system and at that point it should also have an icon that says something like "Drive F: ROLAND" on it. If you double click on that it should open up the file structure on the RC.
