Well... here I am. The comment following the last one 10yrs ago. All I can say is... thank you soooooo much for your tutorials. I felt so overwhelmed and lost trying to figure things out. Anyone I knew who had an RC300 were too busy to help so it forced me to figure it out. And after numerous searches there you were. I hope you're still out there. I know a lot has changed over the past 10years. I just hope you know how important your videos are and how you can feel your passion through them.
Thank you from all of us, 'Clayhorse'... saving 'a ton' of people 'a ton' of 'hard lessons' or even 'long term missed options'.... AND You are a great 'teacher'
I've clicked on the "watch later" icon because I'm going to watch this in the future when I'm sober. Even tipsy I feel it's important. Thank you for uploading.
I want to thank you for all your videos. I watch them over and over again. I'm from the Netherlands so it's difficult for me to understand everything after one watch. Now, after a year of using the rc 300, I'm still learning from your vids. Keep up the good work. Now I'm performing live with the rc 300 thanks to you. Some of my vids are on you tube as well, so if you want you can see the results. Thanks again.
Seriously, Thank you so much for dedicating part of your precious time to contribute to UA-cam University. Your tutorials are more than useful! People like you, Teachers, Mentors... Y'all are the best! Life is good!
Hi. I have watch this a couple of times now. You are very thorough with your instruction. Your dedication to the use of the RC 300 is impressive. Thank You
This video was an excellent tutorial. I greatly appreciate the time spent putting this on UA-cam. The RC-300 is an amazing piece of technology, BUT, as you aptly point out, applying it well requires imagination, creative thinking, trial and error, and perseverance. Many thanks !!
I may pull my RC-300 out of the closet. 2022. 9 years later, Thank You Sir! I’m really enjoying these discussions on the channel now. So stimulating! Much respect!
Thank you Sir so much for this video!!! I've been dreaming about owning this pedal for years and I finally bought one for myself this christmas. This video helped me so much in understanding the tricks of the pedal. it is a beast!!!! I didn't even know about all the rhythm section it offered either! soo neat. I am a bit confused about the rec->play to the rec -> overdub information you mentioned. I'm going to need to dive deeper into this to understand more fully. I'm sooo excited to grow with this instrument!! thanks again!!!
Just bought the RC300 today.. Iv'e been using the RC2 for years and now it's time to get to business . Wow!! Big difference and thank heaven for your video's i'm a bit overwhelmed at this point! Giant learning curve here!! It's only been a couple of hours and I need a break.. whooo !!
I have been looking into getting a loop pedal. And have decided to go with this one after your awesome tutorial. Thank you so much for making this video. It made things very clear for me.
thanks for the information, you have opened my eyes. i just bought the rc-300 last week, but i never ever could have imagine the things you can do on this device. thanks a lot for your teachings. peace and love
Very informative, thanks! Lots of stuff that the manual doesn't explain completely! Being relatively new to the live looping game, I'm sure this video series will help me get most out of my RC-300.
Thank you for taking the time to explain this. Your videos are very helpful to those of us learning how to use this incredible device. I appreciate you taking the time in your personal life to make mine better.
Thanks clayhorse . Bought the RC300 , read the manual and this helps bring it all together . Also noticed your wooden percussion frog ! My wife bought me one of those.
Hey Robby, thanks for the kind words! Then you'll be interested in some upcoming videos I'll be making. I'm using the RC-300 in a live band scenario with a drummer. We've come up with a way of staying synched up with the machine even when it gets loud. I've had several drummers who absolutely refused to even try after a few bad experiences. But now it's going to be great, working with just a drummer, and pre-recording the bass parts, recording the rhythm parts live, we've got a 4-piece band.
Thank you CLAIHORSE for this description I regret that we don't have someone on the web in France who can explain it to us in the language of Molaire which is easier for me. Congratulations in any case and thank you again. Patrick d'Avignon
Many many thanks to you for making this video! All that complicated stuff make simple... no messing about, and a nice summing up at the end! I bought one of these a week ago, and just couldn't figure out how to get those levels right between the recorded and live sound! I think I've got it now, thanks to you! :) I look forwards to seeing more of your videos on this great looping pedal.
Thanks for this video because the manual doesn't cover much of what you had discussed and I bought mine almost 9 months ago and haven't done anything with it until now. I'm going to start using the song feature for creating songs live. Thanks again! Also very good guitar licks. Enjoyed it all!!!
I live in Belgium, play Irish and took the guitar out of the mothballs. It has a nice ring to it and I play it also now. Thanks for the tips on the RC 300. I do some ambient music too. The u-tube is great to pick up things like this. Take care :-)
BRILLIANT! Thank you sir, this was really sharp thinking. Its funny how intimidating this amazing piece of equipment is initially. And then as you stumble through it, getting various tips along the way and referring back to the manual a couple of hundred times, things just sort themselves out...And then the true sense of possibility can be realized. Creative thinkers can really have a blast with this baby. Thanks again my friend, you've answered many of my questions without me even asking, and your tutorial and teaching skills are top notch! Boss should have employed you!
Thankyou so much for doing this video. I purchases a looping station and being NOT technically minded I have been struggling to put it to use. Your info has helped a lot. Happy playing!
Very nice, very clear, very helpful... thanks very much for the detailed description... I've watched hundreds of people on UA-cam looping with an RC-300, but it's often a mystery exactly what they did with the individual tracks and how they used the three RC300 tracks to create their arrangement. Thanks thanks thanks!!
Really useful video, thanks!! I might buy one. I do acoustic solo gigs and have wanted to be able to 'drop the drums out' of the loops I make but the smaller ones only allow A, AB, ABC you can never have BC on their own. I find for lead/solos where you need to be louder, having an EQ pedal as a volume boost going in solves that fairly easily.
Hi Clayhorse! Thank you soo much for sharing your experience with the rc 300. Brilliant tips, superbly and intelligently well explained. Greetz from Germany!! Sheldon
Thanks for the tutorials! These are so well constructed and very informative. Roland should really have paid you for creating these, in addition to listening to your fix suggestions. Cheers!
You do a great job explaining how to use the RC 300 , Ihave a line 6 looper , a RC 30and a built in the amp looper roland acoustic performer 120 ,but their too limitid for what I want to do .You haveconvinced me Ineed the RC300 ,thanks so much for taking the time to make this video.
You can hold the pedal down for 2 seconds on any track, even if another track is playing, and it will erase that track without disturbing the playback of the other track(s).
Mr clayhorse, the "Mr" is appended as a sign of my deep respect for you and your contributions to this community. You are wonderful both as a musician and a teacher. I had recently purchased an RC-30 and, a few days later, I then just 'happened' to find this RC- 300 Tips & Tricks article/ review/ tutorial !! Your very detailed and clearly presented information then 'switched' a light on for me and, I promptly returned the RC - 30 to Guitar Center and bought me this great RC - 300 instead !! Go Figure !! :-) Now, I am 'devouring' all of your Articles/Tutorials in an effort to prepare myself so as to be able to utilize this machine to the max. Thank you kind sir and, I wish that I could play guitar as well as you. Thank You.
Hi Mr Clayhorse, quick question as I'm seriously considering buying this product and seeking clarifications. As you mention above if you hold down down for 2 seconds on any track (even if another track is playing), then this will erase that particular track without disturbing playback of another track. I assume this is in multi mode? My question is...is this also possible in single mode too? For example, I've just recorded a track on phrase 1 and 2 and I'm now recording on phrase 3. I don't want to go back to any of the previous phrases as I want to record something completely different. I realise that at the point I'm currently at in the song, I don't need phrase 1 any more. Is it possible to delete the content by holding down stop for phrase 1, then record a new track onto it once I'm finished with phrase 3? (I hope this is understandable!)
If you press stop on any track while you are recording, it stops the recording and switches to playback automatically. So if you were recording something on track 3 and decide to delete track 1 mid recording...it would ruin the song. Hope that's what you're asking :o
This is a fantastically helpful tutorial for those among us who have aversions to reading user manuals! HA HA! Thank you sir! It's a great video and I for one really appreciate it.
When I first got the 300, I thought I would never be able to work the pedals and play at the same time, but now it's no problem at all. Mostly I just have to remember to switch tracks when a chorus or bridge is coming up, and sometimes when I'm playing a complicated lead, it's still a bit hard to get a pedal push in there. That's why changing tracks on loop end, rather than immediate is critical - it makes it 100% easier. And I've learned to look down and make sure the green light is flashing
Yes, you're absolutely right. The faders are great for quick, live adjustments. But sometimes on different songs and guitar settings, the playback volume does not match the live recording volume, so if you know that in advance, you can adjust for with the menu for individual songs. Cheers, Bruce.
Hey man thanks a lot for helping all of us get closer to being pros with this stuff like you! When I get some music going I'm gonna send it to you and give you credit!
Truly appreciate your video's on this looper. I do like " Boss products , however with all the touting of so called "Advanced Technology " , I expect and WANT , a perfect instrument / voice looper that's well made, storage / multiple storage banks, small, lightweight, runs on AC or battery, easy to use, LOW COST looper that's geared to use on live performances right out of the box without having a learning curve , and/or software problems. As far as I'm concerned , all the loopers on the market offer none of the above.
Many thanks for taking the time to prepare this tutorial. I just bought an RC-300, and I've been trying to work up a blues loop very similar to what you have demonstrated. I'm a guitar student with ActiveMelody.com, and I will post the link to your tutorial on our forum.
Yes, absolutely. I use the Boss FS-6 to control the memory location selection up/down. The machine actually comes defaulted for use with this switch out of Ctl 1,2/Exp 2 port in the back You just plug a stereo line into the pedal and the RC-300 and that's it. If find it essential for switching songs quickly, and not using the double-functions of the main pedals to do it or bending over each time, which gets extremely tiring.
...machine to a whole new level of live performance capability I never dreamed possible. Where we are breaking new ground is with the idea of integrating the RC300 into something more than a solo performance machine. I can pre-record bass parts, and so with my super-drummer, I've got a rhythm guitar player and a bass player - a 4 piece band for the price of a duo. Thing the club owners will be interested? You betcha! Also as a singer, you can do wonders with harmonies, etc. But stay simple!
Good Idea!! I'm gonna take this slow and enjoy it. No rush at this point however, I'm a pro musician and really want to use this rig live as the old RC2 was not letting me be as deep and detailed as this will do.. Thanks for all your video's !!! Your great at explaining stuff >> thats the engineer in you! Also your video's are clear and you can see the display..
Thanks, Pete. Yeah, it sounds like you've got an excellent feel for what you can do with the RC-300 - keep up the good work! It's nice to hear people making actual music with the RC, you know, stuff that sounds like a real song rather than just a fancy beat box. ~bb
Got it.. Thanks man. Your the best!!! I'm going to get my Midi cables today and try to setup my Drum machine DR. 770. I'll hit you up after I try and make this happen .. keeping my fingers crossed..
The safest way is to press the Stop pedals for 2 seconds on any of the tracks that have data in them and clear the active memory. Then save (Write) the song back to the present location. This will ensure that the memory is empty, but you have not disturbed any of the settings for the song. If you use the Initialize function as part of the Write, you will destroy all of the formatting information, as well as clear the name of the song. ~bb
Thanks bruce! I'm going to sit down with my pedal and watch more of your videos soon. I SO want to use this thing live (to it's capacity), but right now I'm using it just as I use my jam man,,, just one loop, and this thing is HUGE. I also find it's hard to hit the right pedal when your mouth is planted on a mic. I loop mostly vocals at this point so it's super tricky!!
With a keyboard player you can use the canned rhythm patterns. With a drummer, you have to generate a clear click track, and still it's ever-so-easy to end up in the weeds. Just getting the slightest bit off it's hard to get back on track. But yeah, keep it simple. I had a 4-piece band, worked for months, and it all fell apart overnight. Now I'm working with a pro drummer, super reliable guy. The extra sound technology is worth it to save all the personnel hassles. And we kick ass. :o)
The RC300 works best in the solo environment, for sure. It's a bit tricky trying to use it with other musicians sometimes, especially a drummer, but when it's just you, there's no limit to what you can do with it.
clayhorsemusic Mine is shipping as I speak. I've always played with my own backing tracks and I'm ecstatic about the possibilities to improvise live solo. Bands are a PITA, in most cases.
doncolga08 The RC-300 is most useful for the solo performer like yourself. We're using it live with the trio now as backing tracks for some songs that I have recorded some Cajun Zydeco accordion parts. I run it straight into a channel on the mixer board. The sound quality of the RC-300 is top-notch - as good as any MP3 or WAV device you might use for backing tracks, so that's just another dimension you can explore. You can use a combination of "canned" and live improv over it. I record my Yamaha synth parts straight into the RC-300 track(s) - simple and easy. Cheers - Bruce.
A lot of good info and a lot to learn. I would like to learn how to slow the tempo down almost to a stop and then come right back up to original tempo. Do you know if this is possible on this looper? Thx for the video and tips.
Seems to me an easier way to balance volume 'on the fly' is to simply record backings with the guitar volume knob about half, then do your solo on full. So you keep a bit in reserve for the real live stuff. Excellent video though, thanks for posting!
Yes, it needs a battery to work at all. You have to remember to unplug the 1/4" plug(s) to turn it off, although a 9V battery lasts for a very long time. There's an LED on each pedal indicating toggle/latch plus a separate red LED indicating that the unit is on.
The way I usually approach a complicated new piece of equipment is to pick maybe 3 to 5 functions that I want to use - stuff that might comprise 75% of what you do all the time - and just get a handle on that. Then figure out one or two features and functions every couple of days. When you realize you need it to do something new, you figure out that one thing, rather than trying to figure it all out at once... Have fun!
Im feeling your pain now.. All incredibly minor in the scheme of things... You have helped me immensely with this machine as it's really quite simple after your around it for lets say 72 hrs!! Lol!!
Ha - thanks! So here's a little million-dollar secret... I tweaked the guitar sound until it sounded good on the VIDEO, not what it sounded like to me in the room. I had to change the amp sound quite a bit (mostly adding bass), because it sounded kinda tinny on the video at first. I also ran stereo amps. Simple, right? And yet it was a big revelation to me. Cheers, ~Bruce

Extremely useful demo.........will come back and listen again after I get my Boss 300 :)

Hope that's what you're asking :o
thanks for your great work. Your a wonderful help 2 me.
Very nice tutorial. Easy to understand. Thanks.
After using an RC-2 for over two years, I feel the timing of my overdubs would be okay lol. Great video.

Yes, you're absolutely right. The faders are great for quick, live adjustments. But sometimes on different songs and guitar settings, the playback volume does not match the live recording volume, so if you know that in advance, you can adjust for with the menu for individual songs. Cheers, Bruce.

I don’t think I’ll ever be doing this live and I constantly struggle to get the levels balanced. Good tips here!
Appreciate your videos they have really helped me unlock this looper.
Got it.. Thanks man. Your the best!!! I'm going to get my Midi cables today and try to setup my Drum machine DR. 770. I'll hit you up after I try and make this happen .. keeping my fingers crossed..
This was insanely helpful to me as a newbie
Fantastic job, Geoff.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to do this video, it helped me a lot.
My pleasure.
Thank you. You're a great teacher
Note to self. Don't smoke a bunch of weed before watching this.
yeah, best to smoke the weed when jamming and after the tutorial haha
guilty :)
yup, that is why i'm watching this for the second time. lesson learned
Lol
Glad someone said this lol. I’m here like wt actual f? I’m sure it makes sense eventually, until then rinse and repeat.
You'll have a lot of fun with it! The longer you use it, the more you'll like it.
Great video, very informative! I just got my pedal and I'm hoping to play some solo gigs with it, so this was very helpful. :)
Cheers - Bruce.
doncolga08 Ha - indeed! Months of work, then back to square one in a heartbeat.
Fantastic Sir 😊😎
Thanks for posting really useful
A lot of good info and a lot to learn. I would like to learn how to slow the tempo down almost to a stop and then come right back up to original tempo. Do you know if this is possible on this looper? Thx for the video and tips.
Seems to me an easier way to balance volume 'on the fly' is to simply record backings with the guitar volume knob about half, then do your solo on full. So you keep a bit in reserve for the real live stuff. Excellent video though, thanks for posting!
This is a super tutorial. Thank you!
This helped me tremendously. Thank you!
Thank you for the upload :-) I just picked up one of these RC-300 gizmos so I have quite a bit to learn still. Cheers.
Thanks for a great demo.
Yes, it needs a battery to work at all. You have to remember to unplug the 1/4" plug(s) to turn it off, although a 9V battery lasts for a very long time. There's an LED on each pedal indicating toggle/latch plus a separate red LED indicating that the unit is on.
Great tutorial video. Cheers Clayhorse.
You are the expert ❤
very useful and very intelligent. Many thanks!
Lol!!
just got mine...thanks for info ....you are very helpful
Excellent training, well thought out and systematic. Great job! Your Ibanez has a real nice tone as well :^)
Sometimes people need a Boomer's approach to hack that digital era's souless stuff. Good and helpful movie, keep it up.
This video was very helpful to me, thank you very much.
Thanks for the tips and tricks!
Davvero molto utile, grazie mille!
It was really useful, thank you so much!!
Dang that guitar sounded good!
Good work Man!
Very helpful, thank you!
