You are an example of whats good about music. Your a role model that will go largely UN-noticed amongst a sea of corporate run pop idol music/money makers. Good job
I just hit subscribe because he said the house system needs to be flat. THANK YOU. I'm an audio engineer and can't believe how many people (self proclaimed audio engineers too) that don't understand this or gain structure for that matter. I thought his little jam on the looper was dope too. :)
Thanks mate!! Totally agree!! gain staging is EVERYTHING! Ive always said 90% of the job is setting the PFL and adjusting a fader. Everyone pushes the headroom too far and doesn't let the dynamics breathe. We would get along sir.
you're cool man. I appreciate the unassuming way you present the information. You don't HAVE to take the time to share your knowledge but you do, and you seem to be doing it from the heart. Thank you.
Thanks Jeff, Yes there seems to be heaps of people out there looping - but many tend to go a little too complicated too quickly, and overlook the tonal qualities of it. This is all obviously my personal suggestions, but Im glad its helping a few people:)
Thank you, Carl! I'm a sound company owner in New York City and you are SO correct in many of the things you mentioned, I applaud you for this exceptionally informative, helpful and downright well-made video. Buying a case for keeping the pedals protected and connected, getting the tone together, with a PA etc! All great info. KUDOs to you as this took time but it should serve many well!
too old to learn at 62 but music is expanding & so does with my passion on it & will try to assemble my first basic set of gear big time (ha ha ha) with d cheapest basic pedals available to complete d rig including d looper until fund is available to upgrade my gear..just a perfect past time to while your time this pandemic season & to stay young at heart..ha ha ha..tnx for the tutorial bro..peace & be safe all..
Incredibly helpful, thanks for taking the time to make this. I'm on the fence about which looper to go with, and I have a somewhat similar setup as you, so this helped a ton!
"Hi Carl..Doc J here again bro'.. Many thanks for the info.. Much appreciated bro..I've been looping fir a few years now..on & off.. Thanks for the comment mate!! Great to see your progression of gear over time:) gotta keep it interesting and fresh - and I see you're doing that for sure! keep me in the loop how you go with the new maton and RC300! take care mate:)
Thanks! I just got the RC-300 & I'm starting to explore it. This was really helpful.I also use the Boss ME-80 for all my effects, so I need to do some kind of a multi-level set up to reduce pedal sprawl.
It's funny, i have this pedal but never took the time to learn it. There's so, so, so many things this thing can do. Time to download the manual and explore this expensive board. Got a maton 808 messiah em100c coming in soon, so that'll be a blast.
Carl, thank you so much for taking the time to make this excellent video! I am starting out with the RC-300, and you have helped make so many things so much clearer. I really appreciate your work with this video! Thank you! I subscribed and love your music too! God bless you, sir! Thanks again!
Great advice Carl, Best bit was getting your sound right so you can feel confident going to any gig with any sound engineer. Best thing I ever did a while back. Hope your doing great mate.
nice man. thank you. Just invested in the rc 300. I'm really excited about it. It's really helpful to see a pro do his thing on it! I've been a front man in bands for a long time and covid is killing me - so I need to start a new chapter being my own band. Thanks for the video!.
I love your style and really appreciate your super helpful video! I just got an RC 300 a couple weeks ago and loving it so far. I had a question about how you assigned the exp 1 pedal to do an overall fade out. I can't figure out on settings how to do that and I've scoured the manual haha! Any chance you could give me some specific directions on how to do that? I'd really appreciate it :)
hey mate, thanks for the sub, and the message! yes you just assign the pedal to the MEM (Memory) Volume which is essentially the overall loop volume. set the pedal when flat at 100, and when kicked backwards at 0. Then you can just use it as a volume dial for your loops. some people set the flat setting to be 120 (meaning 120% volume) just in case they need to turn up the loops a little, but I strongly advise to keep it normalised at 100. otherwise you get foggy on your input signals and how loud you record stuff.
Cool Carl, oh I didn't mean to sound like that, and its also funny that I came on to say that I love your natural humor. And these are all really great tips. I've been at live looping a long time myself but there's always something to be learned and this is full of great and diverse things. Thanks for taking the time to do this and for being a sharing person, the world needs more of that. It saves a lot of people a lot of trouble, pain, and at least wasted time learning the hard way. (i.e. "I love the "shelf for myself" part!")
Yes and a really good use of the expression pedal is input level... as Carl said RECORD the right mix levels, its your only hope, you can't remix live later
Im sharing some things people said in the comments I found really important; like "Great advice Carl, Best bit was **getting your sound right so you can feel confident going to any gig with any sound engineer*. Best thing I ever did a while back."
Merci pour la video et les explications, et surtout, merci pour l'énergie communiquée, et pour l'état d'esprit. En français, nous disons: "open mind". vous encouragez à créer, et c'est très bon. Merci et longue vie.
Great stuff man. Using the expression pedal to control overall volume is a great idea! (I don't use the onboard effects either and that pedal is therefore useless to me currently). I'd love to see a video of the routing you use for your pedal set up.
Awesome! The voice of experience. True value here...not a second of wasted time listening. I appreciate the work you did here on this vid...not to mention the amazing music...You are quite talented. Thanks again.
Hi Carl.. Doc J here again bro'.. I've been looking @ getting @ "Maton mini axe for sometime now for my live shows.. I like the tone of the Gat your using there..Could you tell me which model it is .. That your playing there??..I have several acoustic guitars & my Maton dreadnought is still my favourite.. But I am impressed with your Maton mini.. Cheer's bro.. Doc J in Surfers Paradise..QLD Australia..Home of de "MATON"..😎🎸🎤🔊🎩🌞
doktorjfeelgood hey mate! You won’t regret it😎 I now have 3 of the EMD6 models. I’ve tried the others but personally I like the jumbo frets and timbers of the EMD6 just seems to sound and feel better in my opinion! Lemme know when u get one:) and if you get a chance to drop my name to Maton if you do that’d really help me out!
Hi Carl - Thanks so much for this video, there are not many that go into such great detail regarding the actual nitty gritty of the live situation. Thanks to you I've found a use for my expression pedal as a volume control - fully back cuts the input volume by just over half, so I know I'm safe to layer for a while without things becoming muddy and upsetting. Love your work, sir!
Thanks Mate, not sure if you know but you can actually set the minimum and maximum state of the expression pedal. So if you wish you can set the Expression pedal to go from 0 volume through to 200% volume. Id suggest ranging from 0-100% volume, the you can just use it to alter the input signal into the loops:)
Yes thats a really good use of the expression pedal ; input level... as Carl said RECORD the right mix levels, its your only hope, you can't remix live later
@@carlwockner Sorry Carl I should have respoded to this a long while ago - yes I had come across those settings, but decided that a quick and dirty 'volume cut' for all inputs was more useful than a full volume range from 0-100... thanks so much for the advice man. Our show wouldn't be half as good without your insight.
@@davidyellowstar4910 Hey David - sorry for the delayed response! Pleased to meet you! Yes - it's one of the absolute most important things i had to learn: You're actually mixing the song as you record it. Add to this an audience or real humans and the potential for disaster with every overdub, and it's quite a recipe for the cold sweats!
Tks Carl. Great sound great vibe, too. Listen. I've been using rc300 since it came out. (I still own my RC20XL, btw, amazing gadget). I may help in a small but useful way: If you don't use pedal FX that much, why dont you do as I did: assign to that pedal track clearing (Track clear 1, track clear 2 and track clear 3) all using pedal Fx pedal as the target. That way you clear everything without having to move forward in the pach selection or using another external pedal for that particular use. I only say this because everyone is so outraged with the fact that rc300 doesn't have a clear all footswitch. Well, it actually does. It is rather simple and incredibly useful. Hug from sunny Portugal, Tks again, hope I could be helpful.
Thanks Terylene Duo, thats a great use of the FX Switch:) I personally do actually use my FX for some Chorus sometimes, not to mention I deliberately have my clear all extension pedal separate to the board so that I don't accidentally bump it during the song, which I have done before on the scroll wheel haha. Good to hear you're trying different configurations with your own rig though:)
So why not assign the clearing of all three tracks to the off board footswitch? Clearing all tracks realy saves the hassle of switching presets, it's all done in one preset! No need to copy to several locations too! ;-) Just got the RC-300 (had a RC-30 before this one) but it's the first functionality i was searching for. By the way, great video!!
Thanks mate, this info is in my other video on this - but its a Maton Guitar. the one Im using is a mini maton EMD6. Maton Guitars in my opinion have the best pickups in the world for live shows.
Hi Carl, thanks so much for this. I really wish there had been videos as clear and straightforward as this back in May when I first started trying to get my head around live looping at gigs.
Thanks Carl... some excellent tips and I learned a few good ideas for incorporating my EHX 720 into my solo performances. i really enjoy several of your performance videos. Hopefully one day i can hear you live. I wish you continued success. B-)
Hey Carl. Awesome video with some great tip. Been looping for years and some great advice. Quick question - what is the brand of your actual Pedalcase? Reason is I have stuff I wanna put behind the RC300 and all the cases I look at aren't deep enough without being massively wide. Cheers bro
Its a custom mate, but there are several cases Ive seen that are similar size - you can check out online or at your local music store. also a good option could be to modify a mixer case to work.
I searched for info on a looper and how to use one (the Boss one you have) and after about twelve tries I finally came across your video. It was helpful and I appreciate you sharing.
"Hi Carl.. Sweet as mate..I've just been on to Maton & that model you recommend to me was built for a top Australian artist.. "Diesel"..aka ..Johnny Diesel.. So that's what the "D" .. Stands for..He's a huge solo artist here in Oz'..& plays 8 different 'Maton guitars' in his shows..he also has a great band.."Johnny Diesel & the Injectors".. Great Rock & folk sound .. But all live.. No looping or pedals.. But I really like the sound you getting out of the EMD 6 & will make a start there myself..I've been looking @ your pedal board..& will begin to build one myself..once I've got used to the RC 300 Loôper.. Once again many thanks Carl.. When I'm @ Maton..I will mention your name in depth & refer to your videos on 'UA-cam & we will see what happens..Keep in touch bro..I'll keep watching your looping 'mean styles' in a bid to create my own styles.."Much aloha's & Keep On Rockin bro!!!".. 😎🎸🎤🔊🎩🌞..You da man bro"..😎🎩🌞..You da man"...As we say in Aus.."Cheeeehuuu"...😎🎸🎤🌞
Hey mate, absolutely is the Diesel model. Ive actually played a few shows with Mark (Diesel), and he does actually have LOADS of pedals, and runs a split signal into twin Vox AC30's. He crushes some Delays in there also. Glad you also love his music mate:)
Not sure if this has been asked in the ~250 comments, but if you have the same setting across each memory bank, how do you set up your individual tracks? Measure length, loop/tempo sync, etc.
Hey mate, they are all set to auto, all set to loop/tempo sync. The 1 exception is if I have a song with a longer chord progression, I’ll have track 2 set loop sync to off (but tempo sync still on) and all run all my chordal progression on that track with shorter percussion loops on the others.
Thank you for putting this video up Carl. I loved your advice about setting your tone before it hits the PA. I've been working on just that for years now, different guitars, different pick-ups, DIs etc. And now I'm looking at adding looping to my live sound, basically to allow me to solo over my own rhythm loop and do harmony vox. I'm not sure whether the RC300 is overkill, so I'm reviewing all the options. Your video gave me a good insight into other ideas of what can be done with this technology.
Thank you for taking the time to help others! Your sound, on your other pedalboard vid, just hooked me. That little Maton through your setup is so warm and evocative. Well Done! I have something to shoot for with my own playing.
A very interesting piece of equipment! This is a great way to work. I wish you the most positive things :-) Antonio

Cool video dude! Thanks for sharing. I got a question for you. Is it possible to set up the RC-300 in a way that each track only receives a specific signal - XLR or Jack? For example, track one only receives the signal from your XLR input. I find this very handy because if you want to record the guitar while your singing, there is no way the vocals stay off the same loop and you should be able to do so. The two mic's don't solve the problem because they have to be close together. The mic for the loops always picks up some noise your singing! Cheers mate
Gonçalo Bilé To your first question, no. To your second, you have to have two mics, one going straight to mixer the other going to looper. I solve this by assigning the expression pedal to be the MIC INPUT SWITCH so I can rock if forward or back to mute the looper mic. It does use up the exp pedal but it's worth it for such a fundamental aspect, alternatively you could just bend down and turn the MIC input volume down for that bit.
Best video I seen on rc300 yet. Great job! Oh. And I'm also getting myself a pedal case now. Never though of it. U talked me into it lol thanks! Love how u layer so many parts and do you own thing with the guitar and the mic. Its admirable. I'm reluctant to play live with me and the pedal or even with a drummer cuz I almost feel its cheating lol. I used to be heavy into music. Put it down for 6 years. And picked up my 2012 strat I never even broke in and jumped on this rc300. It's my first looper of any sort and from my.understanding we cant get any better lol. But the concept of doing it it all myself is amazing and beautiful but also feels weird. Did u ever have that feeling? Am I alone with this? Lol
Thanks mate, yes the looper is very helpful in playing solo live. I love performing with a band but for my personal music style this is ideal for me for touring and travel. I consider backing tracks cheating, but when I loop, everything is totally live - nothing is pre recorded so I don't feel like its cheating at all, in fact I feel like its more difficult to actually play all the instruments yourself and control them like a Music director!! Its not for everyone, but its certainly right for me:)
Hey Carl, I love your videos- thank you for sharing. I have a question. I bought the Boss OC3 and plugged it into the instrument part of my Boss RC300 looper, and it doesn’t work 😭 Should I be putting it in another channel? The pedal is new, and has a battery, but I’ll buy an adapter. If I plug my maton into the guitar input and the output is direct...please tell me what I’m doing wrong. This is killing me haha! Thanks for your time 😊 Nat 🎶
I wonder how much clearance my pedalboard case has .... I’d like to build a little shelf for myself too... there is space to be used behind the rc-300 but I have to get above all the input and output cables on the looper
Good stuff, man, thanks for the tips! I'm trying to figure out how to set up my new looper. Wouldn't it possible to first mix every input- mic, guitar, mic'd drum, etc., in a little mixer, balance, and pan the channels, and then send that stereo signal into the looper so that when you play something it's already positioned stereo and balanced? I'm guessing so, but have to figure out the cables.
Thanks - yes that is certainly an option, although there are 3 input channels on the Looper. Instrument, Mic and Stereo AUX. I would try and balance your inputs across these 3 as much as possible, otherwise you are sending a heavy signal that is already pre-amped into another preamp, which will work - just gotta fine tune. You will get a better signal if you spread out your options across the 3.
@@carlwockner Cool, thanks for the reply. I actually have a simpler basic stereo looper and did finally try it with everything- midi, different instruments, mics, some things effected through my DAW all at once. It did work and was crazy fun!
Hello Carl, thank you for your video :) I would like ask you if you had some problem like I have right now with my loop station ,maybe you can help me to fix ( The problem is that in the display often comes out the writing : Rhythm level, when it is like this, the sound of drum still comes out and the pedals are still working right , but then if I want change the pattern or anything else by moving the knob I can't do anything ... and then when the writing ( Rhythm level ) go away, I can use the knob again as always... The problem is that the script is coming and goes every 4 or 5 seconds, so right now I can use my loop station anymore . I have try already to send a message to the roland but nothing they don't answer yet . If you have some suggestion you are welcome of course . Thank you
I am a solo instrumental player who wants a looper only for live use, and I have the RC-30. I record tracks live only, so I never use the memories, and even if I wanted to I couldn't switch between them mid-song because of the disturbing way that Boss doubles up the functions of the optional attached footswitches (to switch tracks you must hold the footswitch down for exactly enough time to switch to the track you want and not accidentally one track more, and if you mistakenly just click the footswitch it does something else altogether; this is way too error-prone for live performance). Anyway, I play songs with multiple sections (call them A & B) of different durations and possibly different tempos. I want to record section A live, then when section B comes record B live, then when returning to section A I want to bring back the live-recorded "A" recording. The problem is that tracks 1 and 2 are synchronized, so that I cannot record two themes having different tempos and/or durations. The only way I could do this with the RC-30 is to have two of them in series and use them as completely independent units, which I don't want to do. QUESTION: will the RC-300 record two or more completely independent tracks (with different tempos and lengths) and switch between them live, with nothing pre-stored in memory? Thanks!
hahah - sorry I just wanted my 1st answer to be super short! The answer is yes for sure. The 300 you can have each track (1, 2, 3) be totally independant of the each of the others. Or you can sync either tempo (but not length) and/or Loop length.
I have enough trouble playing guitar. I thought it would be cool to do something like this. I think I will leave that to smart people like this guy. lol Really awesome!
Thanks for your insights, will definitely help me prepare for a first live gig with a loop station ! Have recently bought a RC-50 so we're working with some differences but could you tell me if you know a way to transition to a different chord progression fluently within one song playing on such a station? I'm really enjoying playing around with it but I want to be able to both create multiple layers on top of each other but also to transition to a different part of the song without having to have a hard break in the middle of everything and I haven't really figured out how to go about that. Hope I'm explaining it well!
Stone Edge Entertainment hi mate, I usually avoid different chord progressions as it usually drags out a song pretty heavy - I generally choose one progression to loop, and if it has multiple parts I’ll just set a beat/percussion loop on 1 track to play along to with multiple progressions. That said you can totally do it - just have to lay down each progression on separate tracks:)
@@carlwockner Thanks a lot! Yeah I guess it's important to make sure not every song turns into another Bohemian Rhapsody ;) I am trying to see if I can use my RC-50 to perform songs I have already written and I just noticed phrases don't really lend themselves to multiple chord progressions. Makes sense of course as they have to somehow sync with the other phrases on that track. It would mess up the tempo of the first loop when I'd try to go back so it's definitely not intended for that so I'll indeed look into how to switch back and forth between different tracks to make that work! Kinda feel like Morty trying to turn into Rick while figuring it out haha Thanks again and will definitely check in once in a while to see what you're working on!
Very useful video thank you for your generous sharing of tips. Just got a second hand RC300. Looking forward to spending some QT with it 😋. Wishing you lots of success in the biz!
Carl Wockner Hey Carl, I am so impressed with your talent, your chops, your intelligence, and your kind humility. Thanks for putting so much good stuff into the world!! Just in case you are still monitoring questions from this youtube video, I have one. Like Alvero Sovero, I also want to control the colume of all 3 loop playback tracks at once. You told him he could assign the EXP1 pedal to master loop volume. I’ve been digging through the RC300 manual, but can’t figure out just how to make that assignment. What section/editing parameter could I adjust to make this work? I am an amplified fiddler wanting to augment live playing with pre-recorded loops, so volume matching loops to the live fiddle in realtime is pretty crucial. Thanks again, Carl!
Hi Carl!! Really congrats for this great video! Many of the things you said turned so useful for my live setup, so thank you so much for sharing "your way"! I actually have got a question, don't know whether you are able to help me...I'm playing a song where I record first on track 3, and at the end of the 4th measure of the recording of track 3 I hit play on track 1. When hitting the rec-dub-play pedal on track 1, track 3 starts playback and track 1 starts recording. After 4 measures I hit playback for track 1 as well. After some measures I stop all tracks. I now start recording on track 2 for 4 measures and after those 4 measures I hit the play pedal of track 3 in order to start playback on track 2 (ending the recording) and starting playback on track 3 as well. What I get instead is playback on track 3 and overdub on track 2 that was recording so far. Do you know how can I "solve" the issue? Of course the system REC pdl Act is set to REC->PLAY and tempo and loop sync are on for all the 3 tracks of the preset. It would be great if you could help me with this! Thank you so much in advance!!
Hi Carl..Great video mate.. Sweet as..I was looking @ your pedal board Carl & is there a minimum efx one should use when looping?.. I've been looping for awhile with my RC 20 & RC 50.. But I notice guys that are looping at gigs full time are using a lof EFX pedals .. Besides using the loopers??.. Some soloists I see have a huge amount if pedals??.. Your thoughts on this please??.. Cheer's Carl..
Hi Carl - Really great video and some great tips. I have a RC 300 looper and a TC Acoustic Play that i run my vocals and guitar through, and for Bass i basically use a TC Sub n Up which really is a great pedal, however i have always has a huge problem with when i beat out the kick drum sound on my guitar it starts to distort on the PA and i see in your setup as soon as you started the percussive sounds on your guitar you engaged the compressor and also for your Bass sounds. I think its a definite buy that i have to make is a compressor. The other thing is i hear a lot of people saying that the main volume of the RC should be completely turned up ..?? And Lastly i find it seriously difficult to loop vocals in without a bit of effects do you record your looped vocals dry ?? Sorry for all the questions but here where i live in South Africa we dont have many guys that can give advise on this Wallace
Thanks Wallace, a few things to address here - I am using the compressor for tonal qualities in my setup and not to reduce the volume or stop distortion as there isn't any problems without it. Its definitely a great addition to any rig but Id say that your problem isn't going to be fixed with it. 2 things I would check is firstly the input volumes to the looper. You mentioned using the TC Acoustic Play. The most important part about your WHOLE setup is to try and be as close to the raw guitar signal volume as possible. Meaning - your acoustic guitar should be the same volume if you unplug all the pedals and effects and run the guitar directly into the mixer. Chances are (most commonly) once people add digital effect pedals that have a "main volume" or master volume, things begin to get louder during the process. I would CERTAINLY check that first. If its louder through your setup, start by ONLY running through the TC Acoustic and set the volumes so it is equal to your raw guitar signal. Then the same independent process for your Looper. This is extremely important as if you are sending a loud signal into something (the looper) that is designed to receive a standard acoustic raw signal, then its on the verge of distortion right from the start before you even add anything to it. Secondly - i would question your guitar's pickup system. One of the main parts that I get my tone from is the amazing AP5 pickup system on my Maton Guitar. Its honestly the best Ive ever played (and Ive played all the main brands). Super tight and punch low end is hard to find in an acoustic. You may also need to consider where exactly you are hitting the guitar for the bass sound. Try hitting different parts of the guitar to achieve the sound you are looking for. Finally - my vocal tone is dry and I just rely on the small amount of reverb I add to the guitar on the mixer. This is up to you - many people turn on the delay effect on the Looper when they loop vocals. I find it personally washes it out a bit - but for some people it can hide mistakes so haha - whatever works:)
Hi Carl Thanks so much for coming back to me. I hear exactly what you said. I have turned the guitar input down to 9 o clock instead of where it was at twelve and that in its own right has helped hugely so. I also found an advanced setup in the Play Acoustic that in the compressor section the ratio was set to 1.2 and feedback was -6 db. I changed that to -17 db and ratio to 4 and it's cleaned up hugely but I've lost the punch in the guitar. I'm using a Martin LX1E also a very small guitar but has a great sound normally. I am waiting to get myself Maton I think it's the 808 and I know that will solve a lot of my problems. But for now I'm not sure if you can advise on the setting and really what they do as far as the ration and feedback goes. I se the sub n up for bass guitar I enjoy that. It seems to work great.
Awesome vid, man. Just wondering if you have (or have had) any issues with your mic (that goes into RC300) running too hot? The little beatbox bit you did there sounded nice & clean, but I find I'm instantly peaking/getting feedback with the mic (input) dial barely off the ground. Just wondering if the mic input on the RC300 is notoriously sensitive, or if there's a way I can give myself some headroom on the mic volume? Cheers.
Thanks Jake, Yeah the RC300 has LOADS of gain for the mic channel. What Mic are you using? whatever it is make sure it has a tight polar pattern like an SM58 or something. And remember you should have the loop mic volume much lower than your main vocal microphone. If its too loud then you will have big issues once you are towards the end of adding your layers when the loop is nice and loud, as that sound will be picked up by the loop mic and added into the layer each time. - it adds a lot of muddy background noise to the loop.
Hey! Thanks for the video! What brand of case is this? What are its dimensions? Does the case close with the shelf? I’ve been using an RC-30 for quite some time with a pedaltrain jr. But I just upgraded and I’m trying to find a solution. Really enjoy your vids... thanks again.
Hey mate, sorry for the late reply. its a custom case, you can get them made anywhere online or usually in most cities. But they aren't usually cheap. I would suggest to find a Pelican Case or something that is similar dimensions to what you're after, then build a pedal board to fit the case, instead of find a case to fit your pedals. if that makes sense:) A pelican or plastic mould case is great for protection, and is easy to just get a piece of plywood cut to suit. Then you can just paint it and mount your pedals and you know it will fit great:)
Thanks so much for your reply and your great content! I actually found a case called, Trailer Trash. It's a custom Flight Case with a shelf (like yours). It's a great option! Thanks again... Keep making vids! Super inspiring.
Thanks, and yes - its a distant but constant battle in noisy environments. The 2 main solutions are In ear monitors to reduce stage noise, and if you're using a microphone in your looping rig, Id suggest either a mute switch or just a mic with a switch on it, to toggle on and off as you need it. I just use a standard SM58 (with switch) now.
Hey Carl, Great pointers! Just curious how you assign any pedals for other tasks? I would love to have a few effect options assigned to seperate pedals.
Hi mate, difficult to describe over typing, but basically you plug a pedal into the pedal outs, then go into the settings to select what you want that pedal to assign. this should be listed in the manual, or online plenty of places. let me know if you get stuck.
Thank you so much for your helpful videos. Can you help me with my problem. I'm using RC-300 as my looper and I've pre-recorded backgrounds into the 1-99 memory locations. I would like to use an external pedal to switch between the memory locations. Do you know how to this, and which pedal to use? Thank you so much in before hand!:)
The dude: "I like to keep it simple"
Also the dude: "Sometimes i have 40 overdubs live"
Lucas Martinelli hahah!! You got me. It’s a simple 40 tho 😜
You are an example of whats good about music. Your a role model that will go largely UN-noticed amongst a sea of corporate run pop idol music/money makers. Good job
Snooze00 thanks mate:) I'm happy to know a few people are getting some handy information out of this:)
Do people actually realize how talented they are? Dude this is AMAZING!
you're cool man.
I totally noticed that, and thus said similar things right before reading yours ha wow, agreed
Never to old to learn my friend, and it sounds like you’re having a good time with music anyway so keep it going!
Incredibly helpful, thanks for taking the time to make this. I'm on the fence about which looper to go with, and I have a somewhat similar setup as you, so this helped a ton!
Thanks mate - what are your choices for loopers?
what do you need?
@@carlwockner Thanks for the video. Please could you do another video that explains the functions of your other pedals
@@rockypeter8296 Hey mate, Ive actually got a couple of my rig rundowns up on my YT channel:) Hope that helps!

Thanks! I just got the RC-300 & I'm starting to explore it. This was really helpful.I also use the Boss ME-80 for all my effects, so I need to do some kind of a multi-level set up to reduce pedal sprawl.
Very informative! Newer loopers can control the levels of individual loops now (e.g. AEROS)
Thank you from Yuma, Arizona ! Valuable video for many and myself.
The best ten plus minutes I've spent in a long time. May good things happen for you.
Hey can you do a pedalboard tour explain what each of them do for your set up? Thanks a lot and love your stuff man!
nice man.
@@carlwockner awesome- thanks so much!!
Very helpful, thanks a lot!
On a simpler note, I love how you put your name on your guitar strap, so friendly etc, matches the glasses too.

omg what you where doing to make the loop was so intense but the music was so calm xD
Great stuff man. Using the expression pedal to control overall volume is a great idea! (I don't use the onboard effects either and that pedal is therefore useless to me currently). I'd love to see a video of the routing you use for your pedal set up.
great demonstration of the gear, your voice and playing. thanks for sharing

Hi there. Love the video. Could you make a video on the assembly and attaching the plywood shelf to your board?
I saw you in Nashville; so good!! Coolest thing I have ever seen...thanx! Played a ton of Mayer...loved it!
No need to copy to several locations too! ;-)
Just got the RC-300 (had a RC-30 before this one) but it's the first functionality i was searching for.
By the way, great video!!
Great video! May I know what brand of guitar ur using? Thanks mate!
Thanks mate, this info is in my other video on this - but its a Maton Guitar. the one Im using is a mini maton EMD6. Maton Guitars in my opinion have the best pickups in the world for live shows.
Thanks. I hope to get one. You’re one blessed artist. Keep it cool!
Hi Carl, thanks so much for this. I really wish there had been videos as clear and straightforward as this back in May when I first started trying to get my head around live looping at gigs.
You are a great musician, a great teacher and a looping Jedi. Thanks Carl!
Thanks Carl... some excellent tips and I learned a few good ideas for incorporating my EHX 720 into my solo performances. i really enjoy several of your performance videos. Hopefully one day i can hear you live. I wish you continued success. B-)
Ya may as well find a reason to use it at some stage in your gig... love it
Extremely helpful and nicely presented! Thanks...
"Hi Carl.. Sweet as mate..I've just been on to Maton & that model you recommend to me was built for a top Australian artist.. "Diesel"..aka ..Johnny Diesel.. So that's what the "D" .. Hey mate, absolutely is the Diesel model. Ive actually played a few shows with Mark (Diesel), and he does actually have LOADS of pedals, and runs a split signal into twin Vox AC30's. He crushes some Delays in there also. Glad you also love his music mate:)
This was really neat to see! I've seen this being done before but didn't know how it worked. Nice little intro video to live looping :)
Thanks mate:)
@@carlwockner Thanks, brother! I keep on losing track of which is my longest loop and end up with dead space. Guess I just need practice, haha.
Thanks for the helpful video! What pedalboard case is this?
this is my old rig from a few years ago - just an old flight case I found online. :) I use a pelican case now
Smooth bro. No messin around and getting those loops on the go rapid style.
Great Video Carl. Very good information. Thanks for the time and effort you put into making this.
Thank you for taking the time to help others! Your sound, on your other pedalboard vid, just hooked me. That little Maton through your setup is so warm and evocative. Well Done! I have something to shoot for with my own playing.
Just discovered you Carl love your stuff
A very interesting piece of equipment!
This is a great way to work.
I wish you the most positive things :-)

Thank you for your video. You have the exact pedal board case i need. Could you give me a link for that please? Cheers
Thank you for this Carl! I just started looping with this station, and it's quite something!
Its not for everyone, but its certainly right for me:)
thank you my friend... quite clear and direct in explaining...
Really cool video. I have the RC300 as well as the RC1. Your video will really help me change a few things!!
Hey Carl, I love your videos- thank you for sharing. I have a question. I bought the Boss OC3 and plugged it into the instrument part of my Boss RC300 looper, and it doesn’t work 😭
Should I be putting it in another channel? The pedal is new, and has a battery, but I’ll buy an adapter. If I plug my maton into the guitar input and the output is direct...please tell me what I’m doing wrong. This is killing me haha! Thanks for your time 😊 Nat 🎶
I wonder how much clearance my pedalboard case has .... I’d like to build a little shelf for myself too... there is space to be used behind the rc-300 but I have to get above all the input and output cables on the looper
Thats what I did, it all had to go above the back of the looper for access to the cables - just make sure your case has enough height:)
WOW! Getting my Boss 300 soon!
Thank you
Nice tips, Carl. Thanks for sharing. 😎
I want to get started looping, I just brought a RC300 , where can I go on your channel to learn how to use it
You've got a good thing going on with your sound. Nice work.
Thanks!
yes
hahah - sorry I just wanted my 1st answer to be super short!
Great video Carl thank you
Thanks for your insights, will definitely help me prepare for a first live gig with a loop station !
Yeah I guess it's important to make sure not every song turns into another Bohemian Rhapsody ;)
I am trying to see if I can use my RC-50 to perform songs I have already written and I just noticed phrases don't really lend themselves to multiple chord progressions. Makes sense of course as they have to somehow sync with the other phrases on that track. It would mess up the tempo of the first loop when I'd try to go back so it's definitely not intended for that so I'll indeed look into how to switch back and forth between different tracks to make that work!
Kinda feel like Morty trying to turn into Rick while figuring it out haha
Thanks again and will definitely check in once in a while to see what you're working on!
inspiring video; I want to get using this loop pedal again now.
Would a compressor help my sound?
compressors won't adjust "sound" they just assist in a mixing process somewhat. what is the problem with your sound? and what do you use?
Great video, very informative!
I want to have one. I like the sound
Thank you, great info for loop noob like me
Very useful video thank you for your generous sharing of tips. Just got a second hand RC300. Looking forward to spending some QT with it 😋.
Wishing you lots of success in the biz!
that is great!
How can I set up the expresion pedal as a Volumen pedal for the loops tracks as well as U use it?
Alvaro Sovero you just assign it to be the master loop volume. It goes to 200% but you need to set it to 100% and that's it:)
Thank U
Thanks for the tips bro...
Awesome skills!
Sorry for all the questions but here where i live in South Africa we dont have many guys that can give advise on this
Wallace
Hi Carl
Thanks so much for coming back to me.
Carl Wockner sorry meant to say the input I turned down was on the RC 300. The Unit of the TC Play defaults to a 5 db gain on the guitar
Very cool. Thanks for tips!
Good stuff Carl!
Hi Carl. Please help. I am trying to connect my OC 3 pedal to my RC 300. Pls could you tell me how to rout OC 3 to RC 300?
? Plug your guitar into the input of your OC3, then the output of your OC3 to the input of your looper.
@@carlwockner You are the GOAT!!! I just knew that you would respond. You are so reliable!!! Thank you so much.
- it adds a lot of muddy background noise to the loop.
you are a great guy1 thanks for your time
Nice tutorial Carl thanx
Nice stuff. Do you ever have the problem of feedback at higher volumes getting stuck in the loop? How do you avoid this?
Thanks, and yes - its a distant but constant battle in noisy environments. The 2 main solutions are In ear monitors to reduce stage noise, and if you're using a microphone in your looping rig, Id suggest either a mute switch or just a mic with a switch on it, to toggle on and off as you need it. I just use a standard SM58 (with switch) now.
great video and excellent tips. Thanks
Dude you just won me over... I had to subscribe... That's a good shef you've made for yaself.. Shelf, yarself... Forget it 😂😂
Mad skill bruv! Outstanding work - love it!
Good pointers here as well as an awesome musician.
Thanks much for posting this video. Good tips regarding set up for live performance.
Hi yes you can use something like either the boss FS6 or FS7 for this
Big fan from Paris 👍🏻👏👏
Thank you for this. It was very informative
