He just doesn't have anybody to run to. Most of us don't know what that feels like. When you are homeless it's like you're in a hole filled with sand and the more you try to dig your way out, more sand caves in, the deeper you go. Then what you need is for someone to rescue you. That's what this poor guy needs, someone.

I completely agree with you that is the most rational comment i read. Talking from experience i myself found myself moving back to my parents sometimes not even being able to pay for rent. Twice in my life it's happen im just grateful i had good parents and a good home to welcome me back. I was 18&23 sometimes we talk down on these people because we are quick to judge and i myself have been guilty of it in the past. Now i don't even care where they spend my money when i donate a few dollars when ever i have any. I usually see old homeless around my area its so sad.

I am a little saddened by the lack of humanity in some of these comments.
Sometimes life wraps you up in an ugly Ven Diagram. While it may not have happened to this guy, imagine losing you parents, losing your job, getting sick all within the same week. Many of us are just one ugly Ven Diagram away from being homeless. A bit more compassion I think would be appropriate.

I don't know. If I see a person with such a horrific run of horrible luck I definitely feel for them. However, most of these homeless people we see videos on simply don't fall into that category.
And there is a reason for that. There is more going on than what the videos normally show. They often say they can barely buy food. Yet, your average panhandler can make $15 an hour easy. And that is ALL TAX FREE. So, where is all of that money going... if not toward food, shelter, etc? And these folks do this for years on end. And manage to never get an actual job. Like I said, there clearly is more going on there for most of these people.

It very important parents should be there for their children, support them, love them and so are the children must be their for parents include when they get old care for them, love and respect that the way should be. A lot of people don't valve one another and it up sad me. How could they abandon each other, that all they got. No matter what situation I am there for my sons it my job I don't care how old they were.

People should have more compassion for the homeless. The majority of the homeless population are mentally ill or outcasts that society has rejected for one reason or another. Do not judge homeless people. The average American person or family is only two paychecks away from possible homelessness. This is no longer the land of milk and honey. Life is hard and is only going to get tougher. If your blessed with a job and a roof over your head count your blessings. Life can change so fast in this hopeless world. So be very careful how you judge the poor.

I think that it is probably so hard to be homeless that many choose to use drugs to ease their mind and im pretty sure i would too if i was homeless. Can you imagine the anxiety they must have when they are sober? In this case he is 23 years old and got homeless and because of that all his friends abandoned him.. i mean.. man it must be so hard out there. I feel so sorry for this guy. I hope he has a better life today.

Or get rid of money all together, it’s an illusion bc we really don’t need it to survive. All we need is food and we can grow that. All the other bs material possessions don’t matter. They want you to SLAVE to survive lmao. If you don’t agree with me you need help.

Tanner Simonovich understood but he definitely is not in a good situation. Unless someone helps him he ain't going no where. I mean can he even get a job? Doesn't even have a postal address or clothes. Look at his hair. Who will hire a guy who looks like that? Someone could but the question is not many. The severity of his circumstances shouldn't be underestimated. He is acting cool and chill but its actually a lot worse than he sounds but he's a tough guy and can handle it without breaking. He must if he wishes to survive. People just don't give a fuck these days. Kinda sad.

We shouldn't judge anyone. You don't know what that persons been through or going through. It takes a person to dig deep to have to beg. Believe me, I don't think that's his first choice or what he intended for his life. Life can be pretty hard and anyone can get to that point . And even if he was high, wouldn't you want something to numb the pain and hopelessness . The dude is still a human being with a heart, soul, and mind. It's to bad. We should lift one another up , not kick him when he's down.

i was homeless when i was 17-18 but i had a job. some days i could afford a shitty motel room(which is not cheap 50 a day), sometimes i didnt sleep unless i was early for work and napped in my breakroom other than that i slept through my classes in highschool that didnt really matter (theater class, free period) unfortunately i was abandoned by my family, completly estranged. i understand what he means by saying it sucks when you have no family to run to. i eventually got a job in an expensive restaurant and was able to save my tips for an apartment which in LA is like 2000 for a shitty place wih deposit. it was very hard and i was only able to do it with tips. id say if i were to compare the tips i made to an hourly wage itd be around $25-$30 an hour. so honestly i dont think raising the minimum wage to 15 is gonna get somebody off their feet, i think they could survive off of it but it takes so much more money to build the foundation for everything.

You don't know where your next meal is coming from or when you will get to eat again. The public don't care for homeless people and if you don't want to get cussed out a lot of times it is better not to speak to them unless they speak first. @rolfen 8 років тому +2

DesignzRUs1 I agree and I am one to suffer from this superficiality. I try not to get mad because it only seems to hurt me and people close to me. The world could be such a better place, but many (it seems to be somehow mainstream) fall into intellectual laziness and are superficial and two-faced. I have concluded that it's better not to try to tell them about it, they will make me a punching bag and take out all their frustrations and I am left paying for their stupidity, being miserable on their behalf, and wondering why I didn't take advantage of them instead.
Anyway, enough said. That is one way to look at it, but I sure hope that I'm wrong.
I'm not perfect at all, so I can't talk too much, really. I'm weak sometimes. I'm not intellectually lazy at all, I can't stop thinking, trying to understand, questioning. But I'm lazy in other ways.
Actually I might be guilty of the same when I do judgments.

There are plenty of 23 year old university graduates who are lazy and unemployed but very few of them are homeless - because they live at home with their parents or family member. This young man must have ben either abandoned by hims family or just doesn't have any close relatives he can turn to... Very sad but I'm sure there's light at the end of the tunnel for him.

The teeth are the first to go. Drugs and neglect attack them instantly. He says that friends abandoned him. His friends may feel that he abandoned them by not facing up to responsibilities. The grand majority of of homeless people will tell you themselves that they prefer to live that life. And most are into drugs or heavy alcohol.

Without access to social programs (if you're young) you probably begin to self medicate in an attempt to cope instead of receiving the psychiatric care you need.

What needs to happen is the all wages need to pushed up and welfair needs to be ran like a labor pool you show up everyday the citys put you to work fixing roads cleaning streets and helping the local communitys and every month you get your benfits. dont show to work then you cut off we need to wake up thees people didnt want to be homeless but someting happend in there life and instead of helping them thay where tossed aside becuse maybe thay didnt go to collage or got hurt at work or just coulnt find a job in the frist place. Now we as a country need to take a stand against the big corprate entities that run our congress through lobbying the federal reserve bank systems need to be shut down.

    So here are some thoughts:
    1. This guy is high as a kite
    2. He is on the street because he doesn't care enough to try and get clean (drugs, not a bath)
    3. He is likely to never get the help he needs, because the dumb people will give him money he will spend on drugs, and the smarter people will know better, but nobody will take the effort it would take 24/7 to get him clean, and keep him clean, while helping him get back on his feet.
    4. Someone is going to read this and feel insulted that they are in the "dumb people" category, and post a angry response without actually thinking of what they are actually enabling by handing random homeless people money.

People that work for money, don't have "extra money". They have exactly what they worked for. People who give you money are not giving you their "extra money" they are giving you some of what they earned. We're talking about the general population here so don't try to spin it and make this about the "rich" people. A lot of the people you see in your daily life that you would call rich worked hard for their money as well. There is only a small percentage that don't fit that bill.
The words he was searching for near the end, I would say, are motivation, direction, goals, self worth/esteem, etc.. Or something near to that.
Walls a roof and a floor are just false securities. Just look at the foreclosures the US experienced in the last ten years. I think he misunderstood his favorite author, or his favorite author was only looking at it from one perspective.

VT does not allow homelessness. They will find you a place to stay (well, sleep), give you old used clothes, minimal sustenance food and.... basics. Homelessness is embarrassing to my "progressive" state. A 300 sq ft MINIMAL NO frills apartment rents from between $700 and $1,200 a month! (BTW: Most Vermonters pay 3/4 (3 weeks pay out of 4) of their part-time - 10-30 hrs a wk - job incomes for housing and over 58% of Vermonters can not AFFORD their own homes!)

I was homeless in California for about 6 months and am obviously very passionate about it (hence my name) and guys like this disgust me. I slept around guys like this, hung out with guys like this, ate at shelters with guys like this, but I knew they were scumbags the entire time I went through that experience. There is absolutely no reason for anybody to give a homeless person money in California. I was eating better when I was homeless than I am now with a decent job. Shelters, churches, food stamps, general assistance vouchers, bus tokens, and food drives all supplied me with everything I needed. There was no reason for me to have to bother any person walking down the street for a dollar and many of these guys are even on disability making $900 a month and then panhandling on top of that. If someone asks you for dollar in a large city like this, tell them to go to hell because they're doing it for drugs or alcohol.

    • @g.14144

even if he or any other homeless person does take drugs, why does that make him a scumbag? it makes him a person in a horrible situation who is dependant on an addictive substance which he uses to escape. These people aren't scumbags, they are human beings with less than what you have... even if they have food and free bus travel and the chance to sleep in a shelter sometimes!

I told him no. but I will go to McDonalds and buy you a value meal if you would like, I was cussed out and told he did not need my sympathy and if I couldn't give him any money, then fuck off. ... It's good people give, because their situation would surely be worse if they didn't. But as he said, it's a temporary fix. Teach a man to fish and all that. There needs to be some non-mandatory vetting system that takes in the homless, tests them for drugs, gives them goals to reach, and reward the best none drug using, none self deprecating homeless people with education & training (you know real prospects). And who knows, if that homeless person gets out of their situation due to such a system, they may even themsevles, help a homless person, sort of starting like a chain reaction.

One thing that this guy is either lying about or just ignorant of. You can get food stamps pretty easily these days. You can even have a job and get food stamps.
To all the people saying all he has to do is clean up and get a job, it's not that easy. I've been homeless a few times and even though I was clean cut and had a job, it wasn't even close to enough money to put a roof over my head. A lot of people are ignorant because they've never experienced the situation and they assume because that they had it relatively easy, that it should be just as easy for everyone else. I've applied for hundreds of jobs and only had maybe 2 or 3 interviews, which I showed up to in a shirt and tie and didn't get those jobs. You can't tell people it's easy if you've never been in their situation. That said, even though I was homeless in the past, I never once asked anyone for money.

Also the cost of living right now is too high for most people to afford even with full time and making 150% of minimum wage in a large city. Its so ridiculous in San Francisco that you have to make at least 80k per year to afford to live in a studio. I know the market determines the cost of living but the wage to cost of living ratio is getting ridiculous and it won't change until there is a worker uprising.

Most of us from my graduating year have had to do further study of some kind to train for something specific after haveing done a degree.
If it's government funded that's not so bad but normally its not funded.
I did a physics degree and still found it tough to find work after.
I know some very bright pepole in stem subjects now watresing part time or unemployed or doing further study very few walk into a job right after and theres a lot of luck involved as well as rigorasly hard work,
It takes time and resorces to build up the skills and knolage to make you employable iv been teaching my self to develope software, maintain databases use vertion control on git and a number of other development skills witch a year on now gets more intrest and interviews than my degree but i still needed wifi elcetronics and not to have to worry about my next meal to give me the freedom to work on it and i have been know to just compleatly miss out a nights sleep so i could keep working on something witch i know isn't good for my health.

That's the whole purpose of the PRESS you idiot, to spread the news in a situation on what's really happening out there to bring into viewers attention.

There are some significant substances inside this man. It's not just the economy or being laid off due to lack of seniority or that his friends abandoned him.

I really like(love) this young man. He is intelligent, educated, too. Has a college degree; and seems to understand the situation he and we are in.
