I am from a small town in Arizona (pop. ~1000). I started out homeless in New Mexico due to a job loss. I was barely making enough for my living expenses and once that job was gone it was difficult to catch up. I then lived on-and-off on the streets for a couple of years and finally ended up in Mesa, Arizona. By that point I was tired of my living situations (slept in homeless camps, on friends couches, friends porches, and even under an overpass) and the sometimes dangerous environments. One day while out walking I finally made a firm and resolute decision to do whatever it took to get out of that scene. I am now living in a one-room efficiency and am also a senior in a state university. I also work occasionally in order to pay bills; depends on the credits I am taking. I am hopeful for the new trajectory that my life has taken and take things one day at a time. Thanks for sharing the video and it is good to see the people in the video smiling!
People could just become homeless for whatever reasons, it is not for me to judge. What really counts is to lend a hand to those in dire need. My deep n heart- felt appreciation to you for helping them out when life has been so hard on them🙏🙏🙏
I stumbled across this video while doing research for a radio play I am writing about homelessness. It's a moving piece and a timely reminder that no matter how bad things get, there is always value and beauty within every human life.
I can totally relate to so many of these people. It is now August 7, 2013 948 pm Arizona time. As of tomorrow at 1030 am my husband and I will be homeless for possibly up to four weeks. I am college educated, I was raised in relative affluence. I once owned a three bedroom house with my first husband. I never thought I would be 42 years old and be going thru these bouts of homelessness. I feel like we are living in the last days of Rome.
My heart goes to these homeless persons. It is shameful thinking that America as great and rich country but it seems people are neglected. Even rich Americans prefer to help other countries rather than their own country men. Which I find not right. But there are Americans never think of saving enough for the future. I had seen a lot of negligence on their part too. Most love night life instead of saving. Drinking too much , socializing too much and buying expensive cars which is not really necessary. If some people think of economizing while they earn money then perhaps they never end up homeless. Sad to say that some never think for the future when they get old.
I think that many homeless people are homeless because they brought it upon themselves. I said many because if I said most, I will have a lot of blow back from the bleeding hearts.
Joppa, please come to Philly! We've always had homeless people here but in the last 5 years, I have seen more and more and more....it's almost every intersection, every wawa these days, there are homeless people with their cardboard signs....and you never know what to do because the drug problem is so bad, I feel like I don't want to give them another day of being high, feeding an addiction. I often will buy food or coffee and offer that instead but we need a real program here and there doesn't seem to be much out there...
Christians who say they Love Christ, In Matthew 25 Christ says if a person will not help these people they will be cast into outer darkness. If a person has a hard time with the Words of Christ, Please take it up with Him... Take the Spirit of God for a Teacher and Comforter Forever ... John 14:26...
Wow Joppa bless you for doing what you do to help folks that are down on there luck. It a beautiful thing my wife and I do the same things when we have the money to do so in our community. I wish I could say that we do as much as Joppa does. I guess my message is that anyone can do a little something to help in there community whether they its bring some food or some propane cooking equipment pots and pans some clothes blankets, socks or so needed or whatever you have will help people so much because they're people just like you and me there humans and sometimes people fall on bad times and at some point we all need help and we due under others help those who need it and it'll make you feel better for doing so. Thanks Joppa I hope to hear more about what you all are doing with this pandemic that's going on if your still able to help folks with it being so bad for the homeless these days?
I was recently homeless in Savannah ga I moved from Florida to get away from a toxic abusive relationship . I lived in a tent from Jan 5 to Jan 22nd everyone says go to the salvation army they treat you mean its chaotic I stayed there four days then after a week they charge you ten dollars a day how then do you save money ? The woman's exact words to me were . everyone just thinks they can come in here and get a bed. . who wants to be treated like that well after working about having my stuff stolen I went back to my tent at least I knew I had space and peace of mine I felt safe not like the bad area the shelter was in. Long story short it was god and me in that tent and now I am warm inside I have a home . however I have a friend I met while homeless is not and I do what I can for her . homeless people care about other homeless, my friend is 60 I'm 43 she is close to losing all her stuff in storage and has been living in her car since sept . no one even offered me to come to dinner while I was homeless . I have my friend over for coffee and dinner I help her out as much as possible and never forgot about her like many would . with that said please pray for my homeless friend Debbie . everyone's answer nis go to the rotten salvation army with the mean people . I don't believe that place is of God more like Satan
i think its just something people can't wrap their heads around bc they haven't lived it.... Imagine waking up with NO MONEY, NO HOUSE, NO FOOD AT ALL!!!!... As easy as it may sound to imagine, u don't truly understand until you have NOMONEY at all, no mama and daddy, no government help, no friends bc u've prob already borrowed from them to death with no repayment
This is truly an unfortunate circumstance for anyone who has ever had to go through this. I heard a song recently about it called "Someplace to be Somebody" and it really showed me that this is more real than many people believe it to be.
ALL THIS HAPPENED A YEAR APART: I first lost my job, then I could not find a job that could pay all the bills at the house, then I started having heart problems, Then I lost my house, then I lost father, then I lost my mother, then I had to have open heart surgery, Then Iost my sister, Then I had to move out of sisters and became homeless, Then I had my gollblader removed on Christmas day and now I am about to become homeless again. I am partially handicapped. I had open heart surgery that the V.A did and payed for over 3 years ago when I stayed at my sisters house. I had to move out of my sisters and I was homeless and living in my car and tent at free camping area's. I told the V.A and they set me up at this church home. I stayed 3 months and left because that is all the time they give you and now I am here in a apartment. A program paid for the first two months. I got a job at wallmart stocking shelves. I worked there under Doherty staffing agency. I had to quit 2 and a half months later even tho the job was for only 3 months. I could not handle sleeping behind the wheel anymore. I had to drive to work and it was a 50 minute drive to work in traffic and highway. I told Doherty staffing this. They later said I was unreliable because of this and took me off of their hire list. All because I would NOT drive to wallmart anymore. I did not want to harm myself or others and for this DOHERTY STAFFING OF ST. CLOUD, MN. says I am unreliable. Now if I do not get a job in the next month, so I can pay rent. I will be homeless again to face the winter cold coming up. NOT GOOD. Here I go again. No one wants to hire a 48 year old that had open heart surgery probably because I pose a health risk. WHO WANTS A HEALTH RISK. I hate my life.
A relative lives in a trailer without a door in a small backyard that he heats with fire and he's happy - even when the vulture twisters turn every sympathy into a caricature of the nice kind surpassing them, and the sense relative to human freedom.
It breaks my heart to see so many homeless people living on the streets, I would be homeless to if my family didn't give me a place to live after I left my abusive husband, I'm now divorced a year and I'm so much better off
Dear JoppaOutreach :), I would like to say, thank you, to you, for taking the time, energy and effort to both upload and share this video with the youtube community. Thank you!
I so feel for you people, been there in my own country, crawled my way back up and now live as a happy hermit in the Beautiful Scottish Highlands, love to you all sincerely from me x
This could easily be me😥, I've been laid off from two good jobs, now that I'm in my 60's no wants to hire me. I did do something smart, back in my 20's I bought a condo with a fixed rate which means my mortgage will never increase for the next 30 years. It's been paid off for 12 years now, no rent or mortgage to worry about anymore. I filed for early Social Security at 62 so I'm doing okay. I do get lots of calls, text, letters & emails from investors to buy my unit even though I never put it up for sale. I tell them all I can't afford to pay rent at my age especially now with them sky rocketing out of control.😀👌
This was an inspirational and hopeful video. Everyone needs a helping hand at some point. The loneliness without a family has got to be gut wrenching being homeless. This video was good to watch and made me smile and cry.
love you all homeless peopls i am very painic now how i help you i dont know ALLAH help you all my humman brothers and sister but sham full thing for goverment .
While you enjoy tons of music, dance, etc. on UA-cam, there are the homeless (over 500,000 in the U.S.A.!) We are only as good as how we get help for this population of disenfranchised, helpless, citizens) !!!
Good job Joppa!! Some of these people would probably be dead by now were it not for you. It's heart warming to know that there are still people who have humanity in their hearts.......:)
No phone, need to take day jobs, otb. It seems someone could get him a burner phone? Let’s say a person needs seasonal work, like landscaping, cleaning garage, basement, around foundation of house, shrub trimming. These are the kinds of jobs I’d hire a gentleman who lives in a teepee. There’s no drugs, no alcohol, no smoking in my house. Could pay a day’s work, cash, and lunch.
This is sad but so beautiful at the same time. The government is killing us. We need to stick together as brothers and sisters in the name of Jesus. Me and my family of four are homeless at the time living with our client/family member. We're blessed, how ever It's so hard to not feel like a burden to our cousin everyday that passes. I do cook, clean and help around the apartment. We buy our own food and things we need, but it's still hard to save money fast enough to get our own. Our kids are home schooled and always with us, so it's hard to not feel like we're always around. We've been on our own at age 18 and 22 renting and payimg rent for others just to tell us how to live. Because it's their property it's ok. but it's my money!?but they don't see that. Plus living around a Community of ppl who can care less about you and your family and community as well. It's really sad. We just want to find peace and quiet and wait for Jesus to come for us all. Or world war 3 or the zombie apocalypse smh I just don't know what's coming but I'm working on getting ready in the name of Jesus. We careless what size our home is, a bird nest is just perfect as long as we're together. We are looking to buy a bus for something cheap that we can fix up because I feel we're out wearing our welcome and can't afford to loose our only income. All because of our living situation. Winter is coming up and can't have my family in the cold. Praying I know God is good all the time. We have come to a point in life where we see life as to short for everything to be about money and materials. It's about love and family. We want to just see the world God blessed us with and help others along the way. We're all enslaved to something I'm choosing the Lord and my family thank u very much! Now at 31 & 36 all I want for my birthday is a bus lol. November 4th I'll be 32. Off grid here we come I pray in the next few weeks we have our own Byrd's Nest! 😍😍😍😍 God Bless All 💞 hope all your dreams come true. Praying for our souls in the name of Jesus. We're thinking about vlogging our bus journey. Or rv whatever God blesses us with. Ok ok I'm done lol sorry just wanted to share our struggles because I know our father is still with us everyday. Even though we're not rich it's ok his love is all we need. God Bless All 💞
Okay but some of the people are still on the streets even if jobba helps there still other people who are taking the donations and buy themselves a better life instead of helping people who needs it 😢
being homeless is hard,no one wants you heck your all ready dead, there's no real support service anywhere for anyone homeless.the police really like beating up on the homeless.when you have no famly, you have nothing.just waiting for God to take you home.
The woman had a place to live and she moved out because she wanted to spend her money on dope and booze and she would rather live outside. That is her problem.
Thank you for helping the homeless everyone deserves a warm home.and to feel safe.
God bless you all who help the poor, hungry, and homeless. Your reward will be a thousand fold very soon.
People that think homeless people are lazy, just have no idea how much they bust ass to do what they do.
Everyone has a story to tell so don't judge...
that's absolutely right.

Being homeless is the worse experience ever. I never want to go through it again.
Praying for these folks will soon get a job and get back strong to live a normal life.
