I have a feeling that this “uninteresting” budget will impact the general public in ways not clearly seen at the moment. You are correct that the NI change and the minimum wage don’t impact most people directly; but indirectly they make the average worker a much more expensive proposition than before to an employer. So it will be tempting for them to off shore jobs to cheaper countries (call centres in India etc) or more immigration from poorer countries to compete with indigenous workers thus driving down wages and the average wealth of the population. I think we can expect an increase in redundancies over the next few years.
Look at California, where they raised minimum wage for fast food workers, resulting in entire chains shutting their doors for good. Most places have reduced staffing numbers, so instead of 10 to a shift, they have 6, or sometimes less.. absolutely disastrou

The inclusion of pensions under inheritance tax will impact most professionals and will lead to double taxation, as income tax is paid by the recipient in some but not all cases already. Simon Sir Stafford Cripps was sacked as chancellor when news of his proposed tax hike on cigarettes was leaked in his post war budget. How times have changed.
I've not yet had time to investigate the smallprint for any background adjustments and concessions, but one group of people who I believe this will unfairly impact on is the one man band working through their own company. In the past, this may have been a setup for tax, but there are many instances today where a client company is only interested in contracting another company. As a one man band, they will not be entitled to the employer's allowance of £10,500, meaning the £5,000 drop to the threshold at which that NI becomes payable and the increase of the rate to 15% will cost a company earning less than £50,000 about £496. These are just ordinary people trying to get a job done. So much for not impacting on the working man/woman.
