Great great comparison, thanks for making this video! I'm debating between buying a buffed MacBook Air M3 with 24Gb Ram or a base MacBook Pro with M3 Pro. I do UI design (Figma) and do not plan on gaming or doing heavy 3D beyond Spline. I could buy the M3 Pro but I really really don't like the chunky shell, I much prefer the Air model, so I wonder if I can spec up the Air so that I can go with it instead the Pro. WDYT?
I am also uncertain like you. I do the same job as you, and I have experienced using the Mac Mini M1 with 8GB of RAM. I designed a somewhat heavy file and found it to perform quite well. I also prefer to buy the Air, but I am hesitant because of the cooling issue of the machine.

But, I also find it really hard to justify spending $2,000 for minimal tasks. Is the M3 chip Macbook Pro with upgraded memory a better option for me? Or should I not waste my time saving $200 when I could just get the M3 Pro chip entry model on sale for $1,800?

OLED does not produce professional grade colour. It is not possible to calibrate an OLED screen as they do not produce a white point. No reference monitor manufacturers use OLED for this reason.
honestly you can't go wrong with the M2 - its only a 10-15% power difference, Unless you are a SUPER power user, like editing videos ALL day, you will never noticed the difference. I thought I'm not a very demanding user (no video/photo editing nor programming for me), but either in my online teaching work or in my translation work, multiple chrome tabs+apps are a must, and often combined with zoom calls at the same time. I had and loved my base model M1 MacBook Air, but the 8GB resulted to just not be enough in the end. THAT, and I still use the HDMI port on my second monitor, so M3 MB Pro with the baseline 16GB RAM was a natural step for me to take. I'm very happy with my choice - I don't need M3Pro, but at the same time, more memory and storage + HDMI port resulted to be the best fit for me. I'd definitely recommend my "medium" M3 MB Pro over the MB Air to any user with similar needs to mine :)
Like many other youtubers. Professional use = rendering videos Content creators are not the center of the world and rendering videos is not what most professionals are doing.
I use the MBA M1 for professional software development, and I've never had a problem with it. The only "bad" thing is I bought the 256GB. So the Air is still a good option in my experience.
@@yasmeenmohammed3934 Yes I've used for mobile development using React Native + expo. Using Rider IDE, Datagrip, Visual studio code opened at the same time and with no issues with the M1. So the M3 should do the work just fine. Just don't do the same mistake I did, get more than 256 storage haha.

you never mention the 13 inch vs the 15 inch macbook air, and you keep talking about the 8 gb of memory as if that is the only choice you have, when we know there is the 16 gp of memory which will make a difference in using the air for more chanllenging task. So you talk a lot but, you leave out important information
Lets be honeast about ram on MAC 8GB is to little for EVERYONE!!!! When a MAC is dping nothing its idle at 5-6 GB ram usage. U have to read the numbers as the graph is incorrect. This means that 2GB is for all tasks and Vram usage. Once you run out of ram the SSD Hard drive memory takes over. The MAC still feel quite fast but you wear out the SSD at blazing speed if you use it in this way. This is why Computers has RAM and Solid State Storage seperated.
You contradict yourself so much! First the M3 Air is fine for all but the most demanding tasks. Then later on it's a glorified typing machine. Also when comparing the M3 Air to the M2 Air, don't forget that M3 chip is a lot better with onboard Raytracing and lower power draw.
Still would recommend the M3 Air (with 16GB of RAM and a $20 dongle) for most teenagers or college students not majoring in engineering. For professional white-collar work, a Lenovo ThinkPad T14s or M chip MacBook Pro 14.
As a visual artist I use a M2 MacBook Air and it is more than. Enough. I do not understand why so many UA-camr think everyone needs a MacBook Pro "for professional tasks" if I want a more powerful machine I will go to a M3 MacBook Pro for the moment I don't need a M3 Pro or a Max ( I do not edit a Christopher Nolan movie) It just depends of your workflow...but yeah the M3 MacBook 3 will be my next laptop or even a refurbished M2 MacBook Pro should be fine.

I don’t know what he is talking about when he says on air you can do one thing at a time. And on pro you can do all things in parallel. Absolute bullshit. It only depends upon the processor , ram and graphics card only. Other than that is its interfaces and ports etc. seriously. If you buy right config. You can do whatever you want on both.

I do photography and some editing and it's more than capable. even the battery life is better. But not by a huge amount. And all of that from looking at a pawn shop and making an offer.

So you are the only person I found who wants to buy the same as me )))) I’m looking for 24 gb 1 ssd - m3 mba 15’ - my main purpose is to do some family video editing for myself. I’m huge fan of air and the bigger screen and it’s light. So I do not know which one should I buy. But for now 80% goes to air
For figma you don’t need anything like pro because it’s not an app and all the processes are not on your computer but on the server of figma
Honest opinion, thanks for that!Actually normal Air Mac always kinda better than Macbook Pro so yeah..
What’s your take on my position?
I want at least 16gb memory, I really want the mini-LED display and way better speakers, and I want something to last me at least 3-5 years. But, I also find it really hard to justify spending $2,000 for minimal tasks.
Is the M3 chip Macbook Pro with upgraded memory a better option for me? Or should I not waste my time saving $200 when I could just get the M3 Pro chip entry model on sale for $1,800?
I would also look at Apple certified Refurbished as you can get good m2 pros and there literally the same
What do you recommend for someone working on photoshop a lot
what about Mac air 16gb 512ssd ? for 4k editing
Another tech UA-camr reviewing the MacBook Air based on a video editing workflow. Don’t listen to this nonsense. Get a MB Air with at least 16gb RAM and 512gb SSD and you’ll be fine. That laptop is cable of servicing 95% of laptop users for years!
I’m UI/UX designer and i’m still confused whether to buy M3 air or M3 pro? I want to have a device that is more durable. The only difference between the Pro and the Air in terms of performance is that it has a fan, while the CPU and RAM are the same for the base model. I don't really understand this, can you give me some input? is it a right choice to take the m3 pro base model over the m3 air base model? Thank You
am facing the same issue, it is tricky but I think M3 air would be enough and durable and most important it is lighter
Spot on, the reviewer called the air a glorified typing machine though lol
Thanks a lot for your video! I'm gonna buy my first macbook, mainly for photo editing in lightroom and some graphic designing in Illustrator. I don't do too much video editing. From your experience, is macbook air enough in my case? Cheers!
Pro would definetely be a better option! This is coming from someone who has been an Air user for the past 15 years and I just have switched to Pro.
@@Castwayyy22 thank you!
I have purchased the macbook air 8gig ram and 256 and i just upgraded to the new macbook pro m3 14in - PLEASE purchase at least 16gig of ram
I did the samething I had the M2 Air with 8gb this time last year. It wasn’t not cutting it for me even though I loved it. I took a loss and traded it in to upgrade to the M3 Pro with 18 GB of ram.
@@Treborray i did the same thing, took me 6 months.
the air is so thin and lite lol
Thank you for the breakdown.
I have a Studio with an M2 Ultra so i got a macbook air just for school work and entertainment :3. Now im debating whether i need an ipad if i already have the air. Short of cellular, i really cant think or any other reason to get one
I don't really know what to choose.
the MacBook M3 Air 16GB/512GB (€1,760) or the MacBook M3 Pro 8GB/512GB (€1,850). I would mainly use it to edit photos on Photoshop. The better screen quality and the SD card slot on the PRO model is a big advantage for me. Or am I better off with the Air M3 16GB/512GB because it has more RAM? I use a Nikon D750 and edit an average of 500 photos per year. So not a heavy user I guess? My current laptop is an Acer nitro 5 (8GB/512GB) from 2019
I wouldn't get a laptop with 8GB of ram. It will be outdated super fast (it actually already is for me)
please don't get 8gig of RAM - at least 16
should I choose an M2 15 inch 24GB/512 for €1849 or an M3 13 inch 16GB/512 for €1759?
only for photoshop and youtube in the background
@@tibo2090I'd definitely go for the M2 because that ram would make quite a difference and so would the extra 2 inches
I’m new to MacBook and i want to get one but still i don’t know which one to pick 😅, anyone can help me pls?
Either MacBook m3 pro 14inch, 512gb, 11 cpu, 14 gpu, 18 ram Or MacBook m3 air 13inch 512gb, 8 cpu, 10 gpu, 16 ram.
I will not got 15inch in air bcs it’s not worth it, if i will spend i will spend in m3 pro, (and in my home i can use external monitor if i need multi tasking).
I will use it both for movies and to develop software (so i will use some emulators/Vm/.. and new tech tgat i need to learn 😅).
I know i need that 16 ram, so bcs of that i upgrade it.
What do u think guys, which one better for me?
Pro
@@HERXMES why?
Considering the close prices.. which one would you choose between Air M3 16gb and Pro 8gb?🥹
Help me please what is better pro m3 8 gb ram 256 ssd or air m3 16/256?
Air M3 16gb 512gb
I really love your glasses. What brand and model are they? I'd like to give them a try if they sell it in New Zealand.

Any advice would be helpful... looking to either get the MBA 24GB 512GB vs MBP 16GB 512GB. For video editing and podcast recording but also like the light weight of air
if you are editing audio, the MBA will never stress. the 15in AIR looks amazing and the perfect size. I purchased the 14 MBP but also own the 13in air and it was a TANK!! i use heavy photoshop files for clients and it didn't struggle and it was only 8gig of ram !!
Thanks for replying ! will be editing video. Useful information 👌🏽
@@bestlifedoc if you are editing video, get the MBP, it will be better
I'm on the same boat actually!! I have the Air M1 now, & deciding between M3 Air & M3 Pro!!

its on'y 20% more poweful, after watching a few videos.
Ya people rarely review a pro with a 16gb air
Can someone please tell that macbook air m2 does play in 4k on Netflix or not
this is very good explanation
Which one would be better:
MacBook Pro M3(14 inch): 512 GB SSD, 8 GB Unified Memory OR MacBook Air M3(13 inch): 512 GB SSD, 16 GB Unified Memory?
I do like how Apple lets you split payments. Thanks for this video. Going to pull the trigger on the M3 MBP 14" w/ extra RAM & storage.
Now that I am retiring and will do some traveling I am looking at 2 laptops the Dell XPS 15 which is upgradable and the MacBook Pro, which is not, and I am not sure how long should I expect for a Mac to last for doing browsing, UA-cam and possible some remote work. Any advise? I am looking at 10 years life span.
Hi. I just upgraded to an m3 mbp 14inch from a 2011 MacBook Air. Before that air, I had a 2006 mbp. If you just need browsing, UA-cam, light video editing, emails etc macs will last a decade easily. My 2011 air is still working great and will now be passed on to a kid in the neighborhood who can’t afford a computer and will be used for studying. As to why I upgraded, I do some light CAD work and Fusion360 just abandoned support for 2011 MacBooks.
@@spamspasm8183 Thanks for the advice.
Mac will outlast any Dell. As long as you go for as much memory as you can afford. Even a MacBook Air with 16 or 24GB if you can do it.
@@iseptimus I got a Dell XPS 13 9315, for $799+tax. Should be good for 3-5 years. Same specs Mac air would have cost me double that.

Hi brother please suggest me this thing- i'm a full time designer and complex video editor in future I will use this laptop for after effects works. The video clips I use for editing those are 4k 60FPS h.264/HEVE
Currently I'm using Intel windows laptop Now I want to buy 14inch MacBook m3 pro with 11core CPU, 14Core GPU 18GB memory, 512GB SSD now can you please suggest me should I buy this laptop for next 5 years?
Advance thanks 🙏🏻
For what you're doing, yes.
I have a MacBook Pro M1 Max. I’m waiting until they upgrade the display to an oled to upgrade my laptop. Until then the m1 is good enough for me.
I do agree with the comment about the keyboards though. They seem to get glossy at free a while. Even with light use. They need to figure out a new coating for the keys that prevents this.
Will the upgrade to oled be an actual upgrade? Considering the insane contrast ratio on these mini led panels
@@faisalgill4100 the display is really nice on it, but it has a lot of blooming especially if you watch movies with dark scenes that have bright spots on them. It seems that Apple will be putting oled panels in the iPad Pro, so we will hopefully see if it is an upgrade.
OLED does not produce professional grade colour. It is not possible to calibrate an OLED screen as they do not produce a white point. No reference monitor manufacturers use OLED for this reason.
I bought a pro during Labor Day sale for the price of the air in the spec I wanted at Best Buy.
Best Air vs Pro Comparison after tons of videos from others! Phew
Are they gonna lunch any new macbook this 2024? I wanna make a change and i am waiting
Yes may be in October or later this year with new Macbook M4
Hi Arthur! Narrowing down a 15” Air purchase, choosing between refurbished M2 24gb/2TB or new M3 16Ram/1tb. Thoughts please?
honestly you can't go wrong with the M2 - its only a 10-15% power difference, Unless you are a SUPER power user, like editing videos ALL day, you will never noticed the difference. I purchased the M3 pro, this is my first 'NEW' laptop, i always purchase refurbished. I just wanted to experience the unboxing lol
Professional use = rendering videos
Content creators are not the center of the world and rendering videos is not what most professionals are doing.
I use the MBA M1 for professional software development, and I've never had a problem with it. The only "bad" thing is I bought the 256GB. So the Air is still a good option in my experience.
The kind of comment i was looking for:) Do you think air M3 would be just fine for mobile development as well
@@yasmeenmohammed3934 Yes I've used for mobile development using React Native + expo. Using Rider IDE, Datagrip, Visual studio code opened at the same time and with no issues with the M1. So the M3 should do the work just fine. Just don't do the same mistake I did, get more than 256 storage haha.
I got the MB Pro with 18 GB RAM not because the 8 GB can not handle what I use it for today but because in 6 years it'll still be capable. 8 GB macbooks will be pretty useless in 2030
Lol. Why would you buy something thinking how it will hold up in 6 years frkm now that's crazy 😵💫 every tech thing will be pretty much outdated in 2030
Hey, I think you made a really serious mistake: the M3 air screen is 100 nits brighter than the M2 air, and the webcam is now 1080p.
MacBook starting at 8GB of RAM is an f-ing joke at this moment
M3 air 16gb 512gb or mac pro base model 8gb
Only bought the pro because all my devices are more than 120hz i cant deal with 60hz screen of mac book air so i went for pro
Is it crazy If I buy M3 Pro now that M4 PRO is just around the corner?
Today the 15 inch M3 MacBook Air and the 14 inch m3 both cost 1,090 , going with pro
I wish macbook pro would have 15 inch screen a balanced one . 14 is small and 16 is bigger. Just because of size i will buy macbook air.
I was lucky enough to have my employer provide me with m3 pro 36GB ram for work - my life was never so smooth lol
I hate how the 120hz and brighter screen is only on the pro.
you never mention the 13 inch vs the 15 inch macbook air, and you keep talking about the 8 gb of memory as if that is the only choice you have, when we know there is the 16 gp of memory which will make a difference in using the air for more chanllenging task. So you talk a lot but, you leave out important information
The keyboard keys fading is so true
The M3 Pro is ultimate.
tbh, the bottleneck for air is the ram and display
…and it will be 6 months we have the M4 Air, and M4 Pro’s
idk, the m3 air just came out
It is not for travel if it doesn’t have SD card slot.
Lots of people travel and never use an SD card. You can always use an adapter, hub, USB drive, or cloud/wireless.
uuhhhm cloud?
I bet 99% of the audience just scroll on social medias and youtube... they dont even have microsoft office installed on them :) but they want PRO 😅
If they have the money then why not
Still would recommend the M3 Air (with 16GB of RAM and a $20 dongle) for most teenagers or college students not majoring in engineering.

M4 Pro 14 new $1967 CAD ($4 more than M3 Air 15 new)

Get 16GB.. i have an iMac 24 basic model. Its rubbish. Even on easy tasks i notice some slowdowns
Why would anyone in today’s date buy any Mac with less than 16g ram. Why. Why. Why. When you compare the prices of Mac prongs Mac air. Please check the same config prices. So that only decision left is extra money for display , and ports difference. And of course weight
Looks like the touch bar its gone
M3 air have 2 x128gb ssd inside other side M2 air has 1 256gb that's make m3 air more faster. 7:15
“MacBook prO”
the huge price difference you will be paying $1000 more for the macbook bro ... not everyone could afford more than $2,000 for a macbook pro
Well, the thing is MacBook Air 16/512 and MacBook Pro 16/512 are pretty much the same price but you get a better computer with a Pro. So for me its hard to buy worse computer just because its a bit lighter.
14 inch vs 15 is a big difference. Typing is crammed into smaller chasis
@@latinreuben if typing is everything for you then go for 15 inch. I cannot buy IPS panel with terrible black level and pretty laggy 60Hz. Especially when it’s the same price.
Btw I have M1 Pro 16 inch so smaller footprint is nice.
We need to stop this fake discussion of everyone and his/her dog pretending that organizing your holiday shots once a year makes you a media professional that cannot live without a world class screen and can only get on with it with 36gig of RAM and a gazillion processor cores.
This is a non-topic for marketing victims.
For 98% of users even an M1 MBA will be far more powerful than ever needed in the real world.
We know.
Never buy a macbook with 8 GB. It's way too less. 16 GB at least. 36 is better.
M2 Air with the slow ssd??? 😂 Are you crazy???
..yes, 256ssd on m2 is much slower than m1 or m3...its tested! regards
It’s only M2, right?
I had the m3 air. And it is indeed a great laptop. for me brand new it came out to 1815$ after tax for a 15" m3 air 16gb/512. and it used it about a week and found a used 16" mbp m2 pro 16/512 for 1300$ with 11 battery cycles and 100% battery capacity and year and half left of apple care. having used both people way blow out of proportion the portability. even the 16" is fairly thin and portable for me. it feels like a premium device as did the air. but having 2x the graphical power and still faster multi core bigger better screen and what I would say are fantastic speakers for a laptop. the mbp is the one for me. I do photography and some editing and it's more than capable. even the battery life is better. But not by a huge amount. And all of that from looking at a pawn shop and making an offer.
