I'm English and I visited South Africa for a few months in the the winter of 1997. It was still a time of healing for the nation and I didn't know what to expect. Englishman here too, the final was rough but I have nothing but love for our South African brothers in Rugby, a team with heart and emotion who have overcome so much to be where they are today. Whenever I see the green and gold I think of just how far these giants have come, from a house divided to an immovable object of Rugby greatness that can leave everyone in awe from the coaching to the field work. Not necessary: they are a millions of rugby fans in southafrica that have looked upon rassie. They are the ones that can change the future of southafrica with the system of him, it a matter of time when they will exist one day.
Rassie, congrats to you today winning RWC 2023! You are a true leader that empowers through strategy, passion and emotional connection with your players. As a kiwi All Blacks fan, I am proud of the NZ boys today and happy for your SA team and your nation. Beautiful story 😊
Proud Kiwi here. I was rooting for South Africa all the way as soon as we were knocked out. Nothing but Love, Respect and Admiration for my Southern Hemisphere and South African brothers! ❤️ And this story only reaffirms that.
I cut serious onions here, am watching over and over and the tears don't stop. So many stories in SA about how rugby rescued others from desuetude situations. I will always love this sport.
Good morning how how very very sad aim now 76 years of age but when this young come on to tv I look at him with tears in my eyes and said this man is a winnner And mr Erasmus what A strong man you are to acknowledge such strong ness in him May he walk always in the light of his career And May it go well with him
To anyone out there who believe men are toxic, I present to you a real man in Rassie Erasmus. Real men feel the way Rassie do about the people in their lives. They are strong, yet gentle. Weak men break and judge and destroy and hate. They can't help themselves.
Each and every Springbok in that 2019 team had a story : Siya Kolisi was born into poverty and his mother died when he was very young, Malcolm Marx 's mother raised him on her own, Duan Vermulan's father died of cancer when he was just eight years old, Makazola Mapimpi was born into poverty and most of ( maybe even all) of his family members are dead ( Some of them even murderd ) . In conclusion we South Africans live hard lives but we are made stronger for it.
I’m English and I was moved to tears. As painful as it was to lose that final, you have to applaud what a wonderful team they are and I have always admired Rassie as a coach and as a person. As for Makazole Mapimpi, his story shows that anyone can come from anywhere, and do anything, and do it all with great class. I’m very pleased for him. I can’t think of anyone else who deserved to win the World Cup more than him.
Thank you sir. I found myself going back to this video ever so often to realise we as a country have a long way to go but we are united. I yearn for the day our nation unites even if the boks win or lose.i will die a patriot regardless❤
I'm Irish.... We didn't do so well in the world cup as you may know. Watching the bocks do so well during this world cup, and beating the best looking team of the tournament in extraordinary fashion was amazing to watch! Thank you! And to those heartless people who disliked the video I'm just lost for words.
Rassie was in Ireland just under 3 years before he decided to take the job as coach of the Springboks. He was set to settle down with Munster and make his living there. It must take incredible courage to make the decision to leave what was going well for him and his family and take over what was possibly the most inconsistent SA team in modern rugby.
@@rugbyshorts and as South Africans we can definitely give credit to the systems there for helping our players and coaches get better, never minding the passionate fan base over there that gives the game so much. Tremendous respect for what Rassie and all his team have achieved together. It is one of the great stories to come from South Africa, amongst all of the very real problems that beautiful country has.

Rassie is ... everything that inspires me about coaching. Everything he feels for his players, inspires in his players, demands from his players. Rassie and Siya: a truly legendary coach-captain combination.
A Makazole Mapimpi movie and autobiography is much need to capture the greatness of this humble and sincere man who never gave up despite his poverty and pain of losing his mom, sister and brother. I think it was fitting that Kuanda(Rip) and Rassie used this moment to express who Makazole was as a player and individual and the hardship he faced to be where he is today. It was His God-given Destiny for him to overcome all his pain and challenges to score in this final . I have been following his career since 2016 and to see him score in the final was overwhelming. I'm glad this scene managed to show everyone the significance of him scoring in this finall and how he never gave up despite his circumstances. May his life teach us that it doesn't matter what our circumstances are ,if we work hard and believe in our destiny we will overcome eventually. In tears everytime I watch this...
I agree...but its must be home made..by South Africans ..not Hollywood...people that understand our country..what divides us...what unites us..bring home the trophy boys...the nation is behind you!!!Mapimpi for president!
I've seen this clip twice a year, every year since it came out. I still smile through tears at the extraordinary love, respect and empathy Rassie has for his players. It is a beautifull thing to see and I get too be here to witness it
To those who gave a thumbs down to this Raw Emotional video. I truly think you need to look deep inside your soul...because there is definitely something you missing inside of you.
most can not see - through the mist of now, but you right...South Africa, you do not realise just how blessed we are....we will live united in our diversity .... and rugby, thank you!
Rassie, what you, your staff and every player in the squad gave us (South Africans) is immeasurable. To hear the individual stories like this is so humbling…. many of us are crying with you…. but it is important for all South Africans to hear these stories because it gives us a greater appreciation for who these young men really are, how big the mountains are they climbed and how truly amazing their achievement is. We the many, owe so much to you the few. Again… Thank You All So Much.
Thats pulls at the heart strings😢. Feel for the bro, and i call Makazole Mapimpi my bro because from this day foward you are more than welcome to be part of our whanau/family. With love cuzzy from your new family in Aotearoa New Zealand. 🇳🇿🇿🇦🤝🏉

I think in some ways the rawness of our rugby comes from the rawness of SA as a place. when people fight for something here, they put everything on the line. for better / and for worse. That said, NZ's great history of different cultures blending is a fascinating story and makes for beautiful watching on the field - im so we're staying in the rugby championship!
This is what it means to be South African. Mapimpo Brings Hope with every game he plays. he shows us that nothing is impossible. That just because you have loss the hardest up bringing that you can do anything!
Every South African should watch this. Brought me to tears. Before anything, you can see how much Rassie cares for his players. Lets them take the spotlight when lifting the World Cup but his mission is clearly bigger than just winning trophies. What a warrior Mapimpi has become to live through such tragedy and become a Springbok.
Rassie Erasmus you’re a legend! No wonder you became so successful in your coaching..you’re a great awesome player, great coach and a respected human being for caring for your players and all South Africans. You will be forever blessed Rassie. All way from Perth, Western Australia.
This is too emotional.. Seeing a coach crying bcz he feels the pain... Nevertheless we as south Africans are extremely proud of him... He might not have blood family bt you guys as springboks team you've got his back and also us fans..God almighty is his pillar of strength...hes blessed already🙏🙏🙏
If you watch videos like this you realize why some international rugby players and supporters dont understand that in South Africa rugby is not just a sport Its part of our tradition and the sport that bring people of all race together
Rassie is such a great leader and his sincerity is just incredible, he is just so far beyond issues like race. He single-handedly dismantled the whole black players quota narrative. Who can forget the 2 springbok cakes baked on the springboks birthday one with normal green and gold colour and the other written quotas. He just taught us so many life lesson as a nation and I would like to make him president of the nation.
I can just imagine how great our country will be if we could all work together, towards one common goal, with great leaders to inspire us all. I hope one day we all do not look at each other not as a black or white person, but as brother and sister. I hope that day happens soon.
@@willembooyens9391 I honestly think we mostly do see each other as brothers and sisters - it's just that when 1 person speaks with hatred it sounds so much louder than everything else, and it can make us all doubt ourselves
Well articulated Khule. As a country we need to learn and appreciate that our diversity is our strength. Our politicians need to learn from the Springboks. #StrongerTogether. We also need to LIVE Mandela's ETHOS of Reconciliation and treating each other as Brothers and Sisters, instead of being hateful and contemptuous. Rassie is LIVING Mandela's ETHOS. The class of 2019 Springbok should be given Presidential Honours.
I remember reading and hearing about Kolisi and Mapimpi's stories in the lead up to the final and thinking, England are fucked. This was no longer about a game, it was about a story and a country's journey. England, France, All Blacks, no team could have beaten them that day.
So true. Us kiwis have a lot of respect for the Springboks and although they are our biggests Rugby rival, we wanted them to beat the arrogant English.
Absolutely true! I heard that the assistant coach of England apparent saw the Springboks earlier on the match day... He then reportedly told Eddie Jones that there would be no way that ENG would win... The Springboks just had that whole team vibe.
@@christianbarrow2568 its not bitterness its respect for their biggest rival. As an SA fan, if we lost to France, most of us would still be routing for NZ to take the cup home this year, because of mutual respect for our greatest rivals. It also healed wounds of a failed all Black's campaign. Cherish the next 3 years and will see you in battle once again. One love one heart

In the final
I'm English and I visited South Africa for a few months in the the winter of 1997. It was still a time of healing for the nation and I didn't know what to expect. I found that the country was bursting with good people and hope for the future. That world cup defeat hurt, but looking back I wouldn't have wanted any other team to beat us. Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika
Cheers, Nick M! We’re facing a third wave of Covid and the situation is looking terrifying. So, I am rewatching rugby highlights and remembering that at the end of this documentary it says, “Chasing The Sun is dedicated to everyone who chooses hope”..... I don’t know where people can watch the full documentary series around the world, but I’ve watched it twice through now. It’s powerful.
The country had huge potential but under the Anc government, its gone backwards and far worse than it ever was. Before, Black people were suffering, now everyone is suffering

Very kind words Tim, really appreciate you putting that down here.
Baie geluk Bokke, the indisputably best team of Earth!
your loss was pathetic.
you lost the worldcup of a sport, which you created, to a 3rd world country 🤣🤣
And they continue beat us, but this is always on my mind

I cut serious onions here, am watching over and over and the tears don't stop. So many stories in SA about how rugby rescued others from desuetude situations. I will always love this sport.

May he walk always in the light of his career
And May it go well with him
To anyone out there who believe men are toxic, I present to you a real man in Rassie Erasmus. Real men feel the way Rassie do about the people in their lives. They are strong, yet gentle. Weak men break and judge and destroy and hate. They can't help themselves.

Well said!
What you just said there is all correct we are made stronger
Every human has their story
I love all of you ❤️
As an Englishman, this is beautiful. This is more than a game.
He paid attention to his players beyond the field, hence he could pick up such and find it touching. What a coach.... just what the country needs!!!
Imagine if every South African regardless of race had this much compassion for one another. Man it would be the best country on the planet
When you think of how physically tough this man is, and then you see him reduced to tears it just shows that inside us all is a spirit that wants to connect to and be with other beings in a very deep way. Tremendous respect for what Rassie and all his team have achieved together. It is one of the great stories to come from South Africa, amongst all of the very real problems that beautiful country has.
I don't think I've read a more genuine and resonant comment on YT before. Striking for it's simplicity, beautiful for it's sentiment. Pure class, from someone I can only assume is not South African.

The whole country cried in that moment I can tell you that.
How about an Invictus sequel with Mapimpi as the main character?
I agree...but its must be home made..by South Africans

I too was born in New Zealand, but have always preferred Springbok Rugby . It is raw and primal unaffected and simple. And it’s only got better.

And this is what makes a great coach. One that can mold world cup winning teams. Respect to you Rassie. A whole nation looking up to you.
Khule I can't agree more. That narrative was getting old. May we never go back to that.
@@ihaveaidsish We absolutely flattened you in the semis so that was almost certainly just bitterness talking.
@@christianbarrow2568 its not bitterness its respect for their biggest rival. As an SA fan, if we lost to France, most of us would still be routing for NZ to take the cup home this year, because of mutual respect for our greatest rivals. Whether they played France or England in the final. Doesnt mean i hate the French or English teams, i just have a respect and love for NZ that comes from years of rivalry.
