If you listen to this song while driving you’re speeding 100%
No doubt
There are no country music singers like him today. Country music is bullshit today. Who knows who sings the songs today. I try to listen but have to turn the radio off and pull up, thanks to tech, Waylon and the old boys like Hank and so many I can’t possibly name them all. Old school is to be forgotten but the present always leads back to the old school.
I consider myself lucky to have grown up able to appreciate this man's work. I feel bad for people that don't like country. They'll never know music like this man made music.
He left out the verse:
"Grew up in Houston off the wayside drives
Son of a car-hop and some all night dives
Dad drove a stock car to an early death
All I remember was a drunk man's breath"
Got my first speeding ticket by a Houston motorcycle cop driving my parents '55 Olds 98 down Wayside drive!
Back when being a celebrity was real and meant something.
they didn’t take themselves so seriously. The songwriting was cheeky. Better.
Still listening to this awesome song in 2024
Yep, me too! I grew up listening to Waylon, Willie, DAC, among many others, other genres of music too, all of it good.

@@bagabundofirstclass5251A man from the future ;) .
The Man , The Myth, The Legend. Man If that’s not country music then I don’t know what is! RIP Waylon, Miss you everyday.
I don't like much modern country but the old outlaw stuff is fucking gold.
Proof that giants walked this earth
The damn world was a better place with Waylon G-----n Jennings in it.
It's a better place even now because he was here.
God I love this song , now that's music
New country music is not my thing. Love to listen to Waylon.
Waylon will forever be the Face Of Real Outlaw Country Long live the King Of Real OutLaw Country 😎❤️
No new country or almost any from the 1990’s to the 2010’s can match . A solid comment dude.
He is the best!
You'd have to pay me to listen to new country. I'd pay to listen to Waylon, especially live recordings.
It's. Long. Long Times , oui la longévité est là . Bien heureusement c'est meilleur , que ce qu'on écoute en France .
Today's Country station artists are nothing but third-rate rock.
When I want first-rate rock, gimme the Stones.
When I want real Country, gimme Waylon Jennings!
Absolutely! We agree 100%!
Amen! Nothing better than the Stones and Waylon.
todays country is more like shitty pop and pop is already shit lmao
Back when
Men were Men and Women were Women and Music was Music !!!!!!!
Waylon was the Best ❤
Country music isn’t like what it used to be, like Waylon, Johnny cash , hank jr, Barbara mandrel etc. glad we can still see these songs and videos on UA-cam,
You forgot The Hag!
And Ronnie Van Zant. A country vocalist in a southern rock band
@@albertbeaney2580 yes indeed, thank you 😊
@@albertbeaney2580 thank you for that reminder 👍
Hot damn!!! I remember flying down the highway in our Semi with this blasting on all 4 speakers in our cab! In 1991. It's 2023, and I'm still listening, albeit in my recliner now lol.
😂😂😂
Slide guitarists = The ORIGINAL Peavey Kvlt!!!
That man sure could sing, entertain, and play that guitar!
That strategy with the leather covering is classic
Learned about this song from playing GTA V!!
I think most of us did. 90% of the time I’m listening to Rebel Radio.
I know this song cuz I live it. Game boy.lol I am the game .
Too many people online with pistols. Play for real. You be away in the jail house baby! Video games. Lol!
Yeah
Same
New country has nothing against this
New country has nothing against
A construction site shitter
This songs literally slams the gas pedal of my truck to the floorboard and tosses the brake pedal out the window.
The situation that inspired this song is Rodney Crowell experience with the law...he wrote the song & Walon sang it...🎹🎸
You can tell this was in the 80's because my dude playing the guitar on the left side of the stage is dressed like a Reebox commercial. Long live the Original Outlaw.
The phaser on the Tele as well! Waylon was great.
That Kubicki Ex-Factor bass that he's playing is also a dead giveaway that it's the 80s.
I have my own country band and this is my so called theme 🎵 song
Waylon Jennings is hands down the Man, Rodney Crowell wrote it, Waylon made it famous
Wonder if this really happened to Rodney?
If you heard country music from a video game chances are you dont what country music is in the first place
Amen to that
HE WAS THE GOAT GOAT GOAT OF GOATTTTSSS
One of the best songs EVER !
Rodney Crowell, writer.
Lpp
and nobody sings it better than waylon.
@@mikem1509 There is nobody better than Waylon!
Rodney Crowell does the best version!
He is LEGEND. You will never beat this guy. He is the best. I so wish I could have seen him in concert
and the lap guitar is the best
I've been trying to figure out how to describe something great about Waylon. Take this song, or any song with this much swagger. I like Rock & Roll, but most Rock artists will just play loud and try to sing over the top. I love the Blues, but most contemporary Blues artists can tear up the stage better than a Rock band (which isn't always a good thing). Even other great artists like Hank Jr. stray out of the lane when they run hot. Now, Waylon ... he could fire on all pistons and really drive a song home while keeping his performance right on track. When he switched up verses or dropped some it always seemed to work. Miss a lyric or a lick? No problem, just keep the rhythm moving. He didn't play solos identically every time, but he wasn't being sloppy, either. And though I could listen to him doing a ten minute jam, Waylon played enough. When a song finished I always wanted just a little more, but it was just right. I never ever got a headache listening to a Waylon concert (well, I turned my hearing aid off when I actually saw him live). When the sound crew had Waylon's mic and guitar volume balanced just right, like this concert, there was nothing better. I always loved his quote "This is no dress rehearsal. We are professionals and this is the big time." Those are some of the reasons I'll never tire of listening to Waylon, and to me he's in a league all his own. Man, do I miss the music world with him in it.
Well said.
I could listen to this man all day! I’m so happy I’ve found outlaw country. Great music and Waylon reminds me of my pops a lot.
Waylon was the original Big Dog Daddy.
This real country not that BS out there today
Waylon is the hands down the greatest. Amazing how he is better live.
I’ve yet to see a bad performance.
Miss you Hoss!
I was 20 and some kinda crazy. We had a bunch of trainers that was fairly fresh back from Vietnam. Tough Smart Cats.
The nonstop smile from the lap steel gentlemen says it all 😊
Ralph Mooney 😊
Pick it Moon
Oklahoma's own Ralph Mooney.
These new musicians couldn’t carry Waylon’s guitar.
Buckwild 65 that's the honest truth!
Keith Urban carries one of them today. Says it's quite heavy.
+ Buckwild 65 I LOVE Waylon ! Nothing would've been the same w/o him and what he did,,GREAT Vocals/Songwriter for sure ! Were you were born in 65'? then you are only 1 year younger than me,so wtf ?. I love Waylon, but he wasn't some "guitar God" basic & adequate,,and there are PLENTY of young players up & coming...check out Billy Strings,Brad Paisley and then keep talking your shit or maybe open your eyes & ears & mind and actually give new players artists a chance,, or just stay in the time warp yer stuck in..Doesn't matter to me,,I'm digging the Old Gold & The New Diamonds !
@@MrUSSAM Waylon has a unique sound. that's what makes him Waylon. to me it shows that you don't have to be a great musician to make it in the industry. you do how ever need to have your own style and niche and that he certainly did. you are absolutely correct. I have worked in the the music industry my entire adult life. the sign on the marquee doesn't say guy plays 1000 notes a minute. It says Waylon Jennings.
@@Rigel7WasAlreadyUsed & Brad Paisley 👍🏻. I’m sure Waylon already knew ( knows ), what a Great Guitarist VINCE GILL IS !
commercial country sucks...this is gold
Phaser country is still the best. Bring it back.
:D Hah! After watching this video countless times, I just noticed something. At 2:32 he casually hits the E string tuner, and does a quick "Drop D" tune on the fly. WOW!!!
Wow! Thanks for pointing that out LOL -- I missed it completely the first few times I watched this... So smooth, right on the money.
Yeah, as a guitarist I caught that too. The pros make it look so easy.
The background singer is his stepdaughter, Jennifer Eddy Jennings. Mom is Jessi Colter and dad is Duane Eddy.
I was listening to another artist's version of this song and had to find Waylon's. I feel better now.
Who
das beste was waylon Jennings je gemacht hat- einfach spitze
I like the ole dude on the steel guitar. Smiling 🤠😎🇺🇸
That is the LEGEND Ralph "Moon" Mooney - Waylon's Right Hand Man.
MY BUDDY!!!
Learned about this song from my husband and his escapades on Wayside drive, RIP Waylon loved forever☮️💜🎶🎸
Too bad about all the drugs. Nice to hear him playing lead guitar
Great song and music here from the talented Waylon Jennings!*********************************Singer/Songwriter/Walker Ikard
Outlaws!!!
I love this song!! So cowboyish! I used to play this around my horse all the time & he liked it😊😊😊.
Started listening to him in '75, now pushing 70, still luv waymore, the original bad ass.
He just drop that Tele into D halfway through the song like it wasn’t no thang. Just hit the note first try.
Best part of the video, awesome!
I saw Waylon live a few times. Such incredible energy.
When country music was real
Listening to this while driving my way to Los Santos.
Love Waylon more today than i didin the 70's.
Texas Proud!
Aint more country than this!
Me Too ! A Man's Song
If there was one instrument I wish I could instantly be amazing at it would be the lap steel guitar. Coolest sound ever.
Me too ! Ralph Mooney was just mind blowing on pedal steel !!!
@@richardkirkham788 Don helms was a old time steel player that was good to. He was hank sr steel player.
You almost cannot call a song Country if it doesnt have the steel guitar.
What really blows my mind is the pedal steel, as Mooney plays here. Just that whole extra level of the pedal tensioners making for another coordination move for the player. Almost like drummers having to coordinate all four limbs in time.
Had the dreaming waylons dream album by chuck prophet... decided to check out waylons stuff as id never heard of him before that. That was over ten years ago and ive never looked back 👍
Just how many have looked down a barrel of a gun
Was fortunate to have seen Waylon, Ralph Mooney and the band live many times. They were very special artists and performers...all of them! They brought many a smile and good memories to many.
I love me some Waylon Jennings. The Daddy of Outlaw Country . I miss him. He was gone too soon .
REAL GOOD OUTLAW 4 LIFE!!!!!
Waylon getting it done 😂
Waylon laying it down
The steel guitar is the greatest
I wish I could like this a hundred times!
Nice job on that steel guitar Ralph Moody.
