I have never seen him drunk before. He is definitely three sheets to the wind. But he was with his buddies there, he was just really drunk. And you look at Willie Nelson and he's laughing, because they're just no denying it he was three sheets to the wind. Leon Russell is and will always be the master of space and time.

I worked in the studio with Leon. What a joy! He was auditioning Black Grass for the Carney tour at January Music & Sound in Dallas. All had gone next door for a beer. I had to tear down the studio mics and headsets, rewind the tape and shut down for the night. Leon had stayed behind to sit at the Yamaha Baby Grand to tinker with a tune he'd been working on. With all away except we two, I asked him to please play A Song For You and he did. I was an audience of one. It really brought tears to my eyes. He was so sincere and looked my way as he sang. WOW. Everyone came back, hugged and went home. I cried again when I realized I could have recorded it but had just shut everything down! What a gentleman he was. And what an influence on American Music. I saw Willie and Leon dual headline at the San Diego County Fair in the late 70's. I'd never heard of Leon Russell. I bought an album the next day. What a fabulous, unique talent.

Austin Texas was the place to be back then but they very that made Austin great ruined it. I lived there around 1989 and once day I counted how places had live music that night and I counted 200.
Anymore of this wonderful concert ? This was the nucleus of outlaw country music right there. So much rock n roll. Great stuff. How is Waylon Jennings not in the rock n roll hall of fame ?
That ‘74 Picnic was an absolute BLAST !! These guys were all favorite of mine, and the Pure Energy of them and all the rest, coming together for three solid days of music, partying, and assorted hell-raising, is one of my most cherished memories.
Ma loved the Ragin' Cajun n' Daddy would hum Blue Skies when he was doin fine. I love all the old and new greats. When people say they don't like country, they just haven't sat down and sucked down some Hamm's or Lone Stars at their local honkytonk two steppin' their way to heaven to beat the devil.

Leon was so cool, totally drunk 🥴, messing with Doug, putting his hat on his head while he was trying to play, it falling in his eyes.

A gem who must be honored. 🌟
Yeah, I wish he would've looked after himself and stayed in shape a bit longer. He was still pretty young. Probably didn't have a proper diet. But I like Leon in every way. Because it's Leon.

Back in the 70 s we would go to the bars outside of Austin and see these guys play all night for a couple dollars and also Willies 1976 Fourth of July picnic in Gonzales Texas what a weekend
