Mainstream country went to hell in the 80s and it’s just gotten worse. But there’s still a lot of great talent out there. They just don’t get the marketing budgets they once did.
Got to see Waylon years ago back in 1978 he came to Hazard Kentucky to do a concert for their annual Black Gold festival, they also had most of the actor's from the Duke's of Hazzard show to appear at the festival, it was during this time that the Duke's of Hazzard had their highest ratings, The concert Waylon did there brought in a record crowd, people came from other States to see Waylon, I was only 16 at the time and it was definitely the biggest thing I had ever seen, Waylon was one of a kind, he was just as simple and down to earth as a country boy could be, Waylon's act was natural he didn't have to pretend to be something that he wasn't, I've seen other country musicians try to copy the image that Waylon had, and even though they try they can't even come close to being the entertainer that Waylon was, he didn't have to try it came natural to him and that's just one of the things that make him a true legend, Never could toe the mark and I never could walk the line, Yeah🎸🎸

Very natural, and a huge amount of music. I keep finding great songs that weren't hits, but could've been. His covers of vintage country songs were the best renditions I've heard.
