One of the 10 best rock-n-roll songs ever brought forward, not to mention outlaw, country, etc. Just a crazy-good, hard-ass, kick-in-the-booty song. Masterpiece, IMHO.
Was one of the members of Emmy Lou Harris' "Hot band. Check him out on C'est La Vie in the early days. The Waylon Jenning's version is the only one I remember being played on the radio.
This song is one of my favorite Rodney crowell songs.. especially this version. Chris Stapleton can't top this one. 2 drummers..who does that!! The other members of the band are equally talented. Would love to hear Rodney & Marty Stewart duet this song.
Thanks for posting this masterpiece ! Agree with Larry - there are some great versions of this song out there , but it's Rodney's song and as good as it gets ! Had the privilege of meeting Rodney over here in England 2 or 3 times , and hopefully we'll get him back again at some point ! Good wishes !
Rodney has been in bands with both Albert Lee and Vince Gill. They both cover this song and no doubt have performed it many times with Crowell who is one of America's great songwriters
I’m amazed to see two drummers. The only other outfit that does that is the Grateful Dead and their current iteration. Fantastic sound. I’ve always loved this tune.
Gary Stewart was the first to record this song , written by Crowell, who by the way played backup on the song . My favorite is Crowell or Waylon Jennings. RIP Waylon
Great tune stuck in my head BANJO got us all in the jailhouse man aint living long like this am I baby AINT LIVING GET MY ASS OUTA JAILHOUSE BABY LIVING LONG LIKE THIS.. perfect progression and just as country as it gets Dog gone it..
Whoa, that's the real deal there! "Dad drove a stock car to an early death, all I remember is a drunk man's breath". If that isn't badass I don't know what is!
Love this version cause he wrote it an it’s the original but Justin Moore’s is so much more rowdy an his twangy voice brings it to a new level. Would love to hear Rodney and Justin do this song together.

Freaking Bad A$$ Waylon made it popular, but Rodney actually wrote it' I can play piano as good 😜 as this guy, I'd love to sit in with the band, Hey why not 2 pianos?
Being held in a police station holding cell post charge and pre-bail isn’t quite the same as going to gaol - it doesn’t appear on your CRD for a start. But it isn’t very nice. If you are lucky they bring you a decent vegetarian meal, if not, a lukewarm cuppa coffee.
I appreciate that Rodney wrote it but I don't care for his version of singing it. Waylon's is by far the best. Plus Rodneys version just sorta ends all of a sudden, just when they got a good rhythm going.
0ne of the most underrated singer/song writers ever. He truly never has gotten the recognition that he deserved.
Don't think he's under rated at all. His album Diamonds and Dirt had 5 number 1 singles. He's highly respected
Others do cover this song well but this is the REAL DEAL! The words ring just a little bit truer out'a Rodney's mouth! Fantastic song.
It's silly that others prefer other covers. Its' his song.and has always been its master.
A country artist with TWO drummers ! Way to go. This man can do no wrong for me.
That’s not real country music or song. It was called Progressive Country. Between Country and Rock
@@jameshutchinson5679 As I said, a country artist - Rodney Crowell.
One of the drummers is Tulsan jamie Oldaker best known for playing with Clapton.
This looks like a tribute or benefit show with several musicians on stage participating. Definitely not Rodney's touring band

Rodney wrote so much great stuff. Covered by so many legends in their own right😊
No one better then Rodney Crowell on his music!!Best Ever !!!!!!
Rodney Crowell has meant so much to so many performers. Genius among us.

Hear Waylon's version.
@@freeds2221 Which one? There are several.
The live version with both artists sounds very good.
@@lokisgodhi Albert Lee’s version.
@@likeitbuzzed6239 Not aware of Albert Lee doing this song with Waylon, nor can I find it in his discography or anywhere else.

Great song and music here from the talented Rodney Crowell!****************************************Singer/Songwriter/Walker Ikard
Texas has the best country and western singers and writers!!!¿apoco no?

The Man The Legendary Rodney Crowell!
Rodney has been in bands with both Albert Lee and Vince Gill. They both cover this song and no doubt have performed it many times with Crowell who is one of America's great songwriters
My apologies. I referred to Albert’s version before reading your comment.
I’m amazed to see two drummers. The only other outfit that does that is the Grateful Dead and their current iteration. Fantastic sound. I’ve always loved this tune.
Tedeshi trucks
this isnt so rare...the Allman Brothers had 2 drummers back in 1968...gotta love a band with 2 drummers...
Everybody forgets the best. Then act miffed if someone doesnt feel the need to explain who the Allmans were.
Great song
Gary Stewart was the first to record this song , written by Crowell, who by the way played backup on the song . My favorite is Crowell or Waylon Jennings. RIP Waylon
Amazing
Can’t live at all WITHOUT this!!!!
He's such an amazing songwriter. "Anybodys Darlin" that Rosanne Cash did - brilliant.
His ex wife.
I love Waylon's version of it too !

Very cool
Very good...Love Waylons cover as well
Probably the rockinest song of all time
THE best version!
The original! Thanks for posting!!
I said this coming out of an 2 wk induced coma after some guys told me to shut up and I thought they said stand up

Good clean version! Love it!😊
Exelllent
Great Story !
Rodney Crowell - Dwight Yoakam - Mavericks - What a 3 pack! 🍒BloodRed.
Badass
This one’s for “BANJO 🪕 “ the leash less dog.
Emmylou kills it. As does Waylon. And Crowells original
Albert Lee made a great fist of it too.
Nice !!!
Doggone, that was great!

Is that Steve Warner playing steel?
Idk, sure looks like
Rodney sounds like Don Gibson
No James Burton style solo.....but still awesome...
If James Burton was around to be on this album it would have been super; but the other guitar player was almost as good.
Freaking Bad A$$

Here's another version where Rodney's piano player gets a solo: ua-cam.com/video/KnqBH7jLb0I/v-deo.html
What's that little Parlor guitar he's playing? Guild? Gibson?
I know he really likes those
Gibson L-00 guitars
Even says so in an interview that he has a few

fuckin' killer
GTA V!
but why two drummers?
Did you notice John Inmon doing his tasty thing !!!
Good version and he wrote it.Gary Stewart stole it and owns it
Gary recorded it first. then Emmylou did it, then Rodney, then Albert Lee, then Jerry Jeff Walker, and then Waylon....

Just wonder why he and Rosanne Cash got divorced.
I think Rosanne explained it as well as we probably will ever get it explained in "Seven Year Ache."

Good song. I prefer Waylon Jennings version.
❤️
Rodney wrote it.
I prefer Gary Stewart’s version best
It may be better, but it is always a treat to hear the songwriter perform his own music! It's really not a contest to decide which is best.
Still a semi free country.I CAN state my preferences
@@michaelmckenzie5232 Didn't say you couldn't.

Forgot Gary covered this, too! Love it myself.
When did Rodney hire Weird Al Yankovic to play lead guitar? Hmm.
That's Will Kimbrough
