Hearing Ricky's mum's talking makes me re-imagine the wheelbarrow/go-kart story, saying in her thick Berkshire accent "he's sold it, it's your wheelbarrow"... and later on her opening the caravan window "don't lie!"
" 'ee sold it, it's yo' wheel-barrah now..."
He swapped it, stop getting Gervais wrong!
“You lying toad, you had a wheelbarrow”
@@aidanfoley1257 you've had a floor.
Maybe they're long lost family
"Don't loi!"
Aw, it's so nice to hear Ricky talk to his mum. Bless her.
Love that Ricky talks to his mum.
These are over 17 years old. I wonder did they have an idea that people would still listen to these 17 years later? Little Karl was a couple of years away from his life being changed...
@@AownAli-xi8jq June '98
i like that karls head is cropped out with a Perfect circle. hahaha good touch
yes hahaha
No that's the actual head.
Ha!! I’ve only just noticed that! 😂👀😃
@@dannyboy_dannyboy8274 Classic! I only just noticed it too! :-)
I've listened to the 4 seasons every single day for the past 15 years, today is the 1st day I started listening to season 0! A special day in my life today!
You're not a real fan then, I have listened to every season 29 times.
Some of us pretend to be fans, and then there's actual fans like me.
@@kygodragon4782 what do you want? A cake?
i cant belive this was eighty-five years ago .....
Still listening in 2083!
“At least I’m not scared of my mum!”
“That’s because she’s your sister”😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ohh this one is WAY better than the last! Also makes me happy / sad to hear Ricky talking with his mom.
+Joel Cameron I wonder if Ricky has heard this himself since it aired. His mom sounds hilarious.
+Simia Canis great point. Someone should link him on Twitter I bet he'd enjoy this flash to the past!
+Joel Cameron A lovely idea but probably best not to just incase he's not happy with these being up. Toby's account was taken down after he contacted Steve.
Well, nobody wants to pick on an invalid
+Joel Cameron Haha, touché... i.ytimg.com/vi/YuQM7gIj9po/hqdefault.jpg
Ricky liked to joke that they put in zero effort on the later shows, but that intro. Jesus, he *never* gave a shit did he lmao.
Ricky's mum is amazing.
"Well no, she knows you don't smoke cigarettes."
"DON'T!"
She sounds like she does...?
Wonder if Ricky ever comes to listen to this when he misses his mum, after all how many recordings of her could there be in existence.
He referenced it on the true geordie podcast and remembered specific words, could bring a tear to the eye!
I never used to listen to this pre Karl series, never really liked them, but now find it fascinating. Knowing what is to come and what the podcasts would become.
Ricky’s mum sounds like Kerry’s mum from This Country
I cannot sleep without listening to some good ol XFM
please try just sleeping.....its amazing

"I wasn't prepared to give Hank any advice"
Still listening in 2020. 22 years ago. Steve was only 24
I first listened to this in 2006. Rick was 45, Steve was 22, Ricky's mum was 55. Two years later I listened to it again, and I thought "in ten million years, no one will listen to this" and I was bang on.
@@Jacam781So Ricky’s mum had him when she was 10?
@@oily4545Birthdays overlap she was closer to 9 when she had him
The show got a lot more real when Karl got involved. Both R&S relied on a lot more on irony and R&S 'in character' stuff beforehand, Steve in particular. Karl grounded them really. He refocused their attention and the result was a few years of pure fucking gold.
Man moth thanks so much man!
Ricky winding his mother up is too funny, I bet he done a lot of that growing up
That London bus joke is hilarious
The story of Steve's grandparents and the fake name is hilarious
Holy shit new content
No its old. Its before season 1.
16:25 "I think that it's a stupid idea, it would never work, you're an idiot."
Steve is the predecessor of Karl.
Also, I'm fascinated and surprised by how Steve says the word 'perfect'. It seems so laborious to pronounce the last 'e' like that.
He was, wasn't he? Go back an episode and he does a very similar competition with the same prizes Karl would usher out only a few years later...
And Steve would be the first to shoot them down, then. Pot, kettle...
Why did Lill Chill never return in Gervais lore?
19:16 - This is the best...
What’s Ricky’s last name?
Arbitrary! x
The ice arrow wouldn't work, they tried it on Mythbusters.
In Bad Girls they killed a guy with an ice knife.
I wonder if Ricky or Steve listens/ knows about your vids , man moth ?
Would be good to acknowledge you .. these vids are so precious to fans
Ricky referenced this on the true geordie podcast and could still remember specific things she said, bless him. He didn't mention Steve at all though lol
Because Steve is irrelevant. x
@@Sheriff_GrimLaw no
@@SunnyDays00 You make a good case and point. Have you ever thought about becoming a lawyer? I stand corrected. x
@@Sheriff_GrimLaw "Brilliant."
Opening song before mock turtles is Change of heart by Bernard Butler
When I use to be naughty you use to gob on me ,lol.
Kerry Mucklowe?
The leg of lamb idea is from a Roald Dahl short story called Lamb to the Slaughter.
I'm so glad Steve stopped calling Ricky by "Gervaissssss..."
Well he hadn't learnt the word 'arbitrary' by this point. x
@@Sheriff_GrimLaw Man alive!
No one else has pointed out, 2 people copied an episode of tales of the unexpected with the lamb murder thing. One had the sense to change it to pork, but still. Exactly what happened in the episode.
What if the body is found before the ice arrow melts....
*Ahhhhhhhh*
Series 0 ah? Programmer?
+Packlimo ha, I thought the exact same thing.
0 is before 1, go figure.
@Kyle Riel
What number is this: 10
What number is this: 407
What number is this: 1000
See, 0 is a number... And clearly that's the same number of brain cells inside your head.
It was before series 1 though. What else can it be called?
I appreciate this, but nothing beats the trio.
What is the name of the song in the beggining?
How many times does Steve say “alright” when he’s telling the perfect murder
It's on the Pilkington level.
His mum would die not long after this, he may have even known at the time.
Well, she's immortalised on here.
what's the song at the very start
20:00 thats a literal poem
Yes the ice arrow storys origin
24:50 I just looked up 97 Charlotte Street on Google Maps. What a dreadful building they were in!
Doesn’t look like a radio station, dont they need satellites and stuff
@@MrNeilo911 Probably not home to a radio station anymore, XFM did move to a different building, and Radio X, as it is now called, is still in that building I believe.
@@capnhawkins Yeah, it's in Leicester Square
Shoddy, tinpot. They really should bulldoze it! x
It's near telecom tower, though. My theory is they were able to do some dodgy deal to run a wire up there to a pringles antenna at the top
Those listeners stole the frozen leg of lamb weapon idea from an old story called "Lamb to the Slaughter".
I remember first hearing that story in a non-children's Roald Dahl novel.
There was a Tails of the Unexpected with that exact storyline, think it was the first ever episode.
Opening song - who is it by?
A change of heart - bernard butler, in case anyone sees this and still wants to know
@@drsamc21 thanx! I’ve been trying to solve this mystery for a long time!
@@Heinssi Your welcome, it took me a while too but shazam got it after 10 tries
Ricky and us got away with it only on XFM back in the day
Leave it! You don't know her!
Is that really Ricky's mum??? lol
Steve repeatedly saying ‘Gervais’ isn’t grating or painful at all. 🙄😐
Ah so its pronounced gervay 😅
I'm sure the ice arrow murder has been mentioned on the show before.
season 1 I believe with Karl, about 3 years after this
His real mother.?....sounds more like Steve's accent...?
That can not be his mom.😂
Horrendous listening to Ricky's mum, really quite chilling.
Why?
The fuck? I think it's really sweet
@4th Chairman Only just seen the replies to this. Maybe heartbreaking was the word I meant four years ago.
It is funny, it is sweet but because she's dead (and sounds nearly dead) it's really unsettling listening to her son have a laugh with her.
Holy shit, if I was American I really wouldn't have been hitting season 0 XFM 😂
@@thewildmitchellseason zero? Couldn’t exist! Back to my Chevy pickup 😅😉
