I've listened to the 4 seasons every single day for the past 15 years, today is the 1st day I started listening to season 0! A special day in my life today!
Hearing Ricky's mum's talking makes me re-imagine the wheelbarrow/go-kart story, saying in her thick Berkshire accent "he's sold it, it's your wheelbarrow"... and later on her opening the caravan window "don't lie!"
Love that Ricky talks to his mum. These are over 17 years old. I wonder did they have an idea that people would still listen to these 17 years later? Little Karl was a couple of years away from his life being changed...
+Joel Cameron A lovely idea but probably best not to just incase he's not happy with these being up. Toby's account was taken down after he contacted Steve.
I never used to listen to this pre Karl series, never really liked them, but now find it fascinating. Knowing what is to come and what the podcasts would become.
The show got a lot more real when Karl got involved. Both R&S relied on a lot more on irony and R&S 'in character' stuff beforehand, Steve in particular. Karl grounded them really. He refocused their attention and the result was a few years of pure fucking gold.
I first listened to this in 2006. Rick was 45, Steve was 22, Ricky's mum was 55. Two years later I listened to it again, and I thought "in ten million years, no one will listen to this" and I was bang on.
16:25 "I think that it's a stupid idea, it would never work, you're an idiot." Steve is the predecessor of Karl. Also, I'm fascinated and surprised by how Steve says the word 'perfect'. It seems so laborious to pronounce the last 'e' like that.
He was, wasn't he? Go back an episode and he does a very similar competition with the same prizes Karl would usher out only a few years later... And Steve would be the first to shoot them down, then. Pot, kettle...
Ricky referenced this on the true geordie podcast and could still remember specific things she said, bless him. He didn't mention Steve at all though lol
No one else has pointed out, 2 people copied an episode of tales of the unexpected with the lamb murder thing. One had the sense to change it to pork, but still. Exactly what happened in the episode.
@@MrNeilo911 Probably not home to a radio station anymore, XFM did move to a different building, and Radio X, as it is now called, is still in that building I believe.

@4th Chairman Only just seen the replies to this. Maybe heartbreaking was the word I meant four years ago. It is funny, it is sweet but because she's dead (and sounds nearly dead) it's really unsettling listening to her son have a laugh with her. Holy shit, if I was American I really wouldn't have been hitting season 0 XFM 😂
Aw, it's so nice to hear Ricky talk to his mum. Bless her.

Ricky liked to joke that they put in zero effort on the later shows, but that intro. Jesus, he *never* gave a shit did he lmao.
Ricky's mum is amazing.
Wonder if Ricky ever comes to listen to this when he misses his mum, after all how many recordings of her could there be in existence.
