XFM The Ricky Gervais Show - Rare Bits (The best of the Rest)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 бер 2015
- This is a collection of material I've not heard anywhere else, after listening to the shows for the best part of a decade. A couple of the ideas have been heard again since but not these versions of them. Some of this may have come from the lost radio shows, broadcast between August and October 2001 when the threesome were first united together. Any other theories are most welcome!
Thanks for all your support, it's a privilege to be able to document these shows for other like-minded people to enjoy.

That telephone bit with the beer was hilarious
Classic
Niku Nashi ft giros ppp
Upuyppyesj
Sounds like James Acaster
The beer guy sounds like a southern Karl Pilkington
@@benwinter6049 imagine if he ever found out he could've had beer with Ricky
I was sure there was NOTHING that I had not yet heard (a billion times over), but some of these bits are new to me. Cheers, man moth!
same here - i know most of these off by heart
I love the way Steve always called Ricky 'Gervais' in the early days.
deeingalaplike Yeah, but in the later shows Steve always calls him 'Rick', and I find it funny hearing him say 'Gervais' in the really early ones.
+deeingalaplike But he constantly says it. I found it quite irritating. x
Steve kept on about it afterward because Ricky's Mum corrected him on that recording and after that Steve kept over pronouncing "Gervais", its like when you tell someone not to do something they just wanna do it constantly just to annoy you so I find it fair that it's Steve doing the annoyance this time.
Isn't it common for British students to call each other by their last names? Steve was probably fresh out of college in those days, so maybe he was still in the habit of doing that.
@smalla weyhey11 That's true, I have always thought that it makes him sound like he feels inferior to Ricky and wants to make it seem like he's on Ricky's level. I like Steve though, so I just find it amusing, and would only mock him in a way that a mate like Ricky would. Like that one moment in the first series when Steve is trying to get a word in and Ricky imitates him by saying "Ooh, let me do something!" in a mocking tone.
love how Ricky was trying to keep it together during the beer phone call, you can hear him straining not to laugh haha
the beer prostitution guy was hilarious, I was howling
"oh june, you've got to get that minge sorted out it's rubbish"
18:49 -
"Why, what's up with the minge?"
"I dunno, I haven't seen it."
"What, the minge?"
"No, the program."
Literally read that as they said it 🤣
The free beer guy was hilarious!
He could have had a beer with Ricky, missed his chance.
I do wonder if Ricky would ever actually have met him though haha
During the middle of a radio show
I loved that beer sketch!
Mr Wogel He should have taken it further , like 10 beers /10 pounds....
ricky and steve are the beat at spontaneously riffing
Wow, the barber paradox is an absolute gem from these guys. Karl's responses sum him up completely.
Phil Dickinson absolutely XD
Yea yea we all love this and keep on coming back to listen again and again BUT has anyone ever heard anything that’s as good or close to this
Thanks for taking upon yourself to upload these ManMoth! :)
+Mark Wallberg No worries Mark :-)
A manmoth?
@@masonfreeman5176 i wish u knew
so much of the first bit was featured in the office - love it! the thing i love most about the xfm broadcasts is hearing where the jokes developed from
Cam There has been a lot jokes in most of the tv and stand up that came from the pod casts.
"we've had a fax" god this was long ago lol
Thiago has corna Lisa
Im really ill and the badger bit just put me into a coughing fit lmao omg
the beer man is absolutely brilliant.
Thanks for the upload! I know this sounds stupid but I honestly believe these helped me through my depression.
doesn't sound stupid at all
Kayleigh me too!
not stupid at all. these got me through the longest and darkest year of my life
Kayleigh Murphy That's awesome! Happy for you! I think it helps a lot of people.
Kayleigh I thought it was just me but I did the same I would highly recommend a regular dose.
This was brilliant, thank you! I thought I heard it all but there were a few bits I had not heard before, so cheers!
I think I've heard all these before but then this pops up and I am beaming like a child!
"The Truth about the Giant Squid"? Who's been lying about it?
:D
orth82 me...i've been talkin mad shit about the giant squid
Y
In all the years of [repeatedly] listening to all the xfm and podcasts, I've never heard that prank call...Man month, you continue to amaze. I love you mate :D
@24:00 "he wasn't a wizard was he?"
Karl usin his fables again.
"A wonderful wizard he was" 😂
The U2 insert was hilarious. Great upload!
that sunbed story is the funniest thing I've ever heard, the reaction to it is priceless
I was not prepared for Simon Pegg and now I am in buttery voice heaven. This is gold. I'm gonna add this to my faves list!!
they used the badger skin story for 'Rickydiculous' in a later XFM show. It's sad how much of the shows I can memorise XD
right?? but in Rickydiculous, he suggested it wasn't true - but here, he seems to be of the opinion it is true?? after all these years still so many mysteries
@@jessemiles2426 Ricky was a bit more like Karl in the early days of XFM. He would often take the role of the fool and make stupid or obviously false statements in order to play off of Steve. You see a bit of it in Series 1 of XFM as well, with things like his film reviews.
This is brilliant thank you Mothy
Wait what new material I haven't heard OMG *overdoses*
Before Steve learnt the word 'arbitrary', he would say 'Gervais'. x
As the years passed he seemed to calm down on 'you've embarrassed yourself'.
GerryBolger I love when he would say that
“Well that’s true enough”
You can hear someones car alarm going off at 39:22. Truly was an absolute tin-pot radio station.
still finding new gems in summer 2018....good looking out, Man Moth.
Nice to see a comp with actual "rare bits" for once.
The beer bit. Oh my god.
Those little cutaways Ricky and Steve did were brilliant. And it was obvious from the beginning how funny Karl was, Ricky almost seemed like he didn't know how to react when Karl said a 'Karlism'.
Man Moth, you are a king among Moth Men. Cheers for these
this is amazing
This is class haven't heard a lot of this
I figured it out. He takes the chicken over. Then takes the seed over and takes the chicken back over to the start, then takes the fox over to the seed then takes the chicken to the seed and fox x
That's one way. Chicken has to go first but then seed or fox can go because the chicken is coming back. Then take the fox or seed and then chicken.
The irony of Rick asking the questions Karl would have about the farmer
The first conversation sounded familiar. Almost word for word from the office
You notice a tonne of stuff that comes from the XFM shows that made it into their various sitcoms
I don't like hearing people other than Ricky and Steve make fun of Karl 😂
Listened to these since 2006ish but these were new 😊
Watch it tonight. Channel 5. 11 o'clock. Minges.
Fun fact: If you go to 97 Charlotte Street on Google Maps Street View, there's a Dalek in the window.
Just tried this.
Wasn't disappointed.
n'that.
It's hilarious because this chicken fox and feed scenario is in a game called RuneScape. During a quest called recruitment drive. I remember figuring it out in under a minute as a child. Hearing Ricky struggle is hilarious.
Beer prostitution fella sounds like Cockney version of Karl
+Man Moth That segment with Karl and Ricky (without Steve with the music playing in the background) that wasn't in the Xfm shows was on another DJ's show. Can't remember which one but they mention it is a Sunday
I'm loving this haha
I thought the farmer river segment was a myth!
I've been looking for this for years Man Moth!
For anyone who can't figure out the first riddle:
Take the chicken over and come back. Take the fox over and bring the chicken back. Take the seeds over then come back for the chicken.
Man Moth where did you even find these clips? They're golden!
Chicken... Fox...Bloodbath
Four- four cans of beer!
"He wasn't a wizard was he" Hahahahahahaha 😂
A job interview in the medieval times! Oh god, Karl.
where did you find this collection?
The bit at the beginning where they're riffing about the fox and chicken sounds very similar to Lee (Gervais, glum skeptic) and Herring (enthusiastic inquisitor).
The beer part was amazing. Where did that come from? What was it about? Anyone know? So funny!
24:05: "he wasn't a wizard was he ? "
"He wasn't a wizard was he?a wonderful wizard he was " 😂😂
Take chicken over, drop chicken
Come back
Take over fox, drop fox, pick up chicken
Bring back chicken, drop chicken, pickup seed
Bring over seed, drop seed
Come back
Grab chicken, bring over chicken
Well Neva get old to me I listen to xfm or the Ricky gervais show every night with a bed time joint nothing funnier
RG trying to reengineer the chicken/fox/seed problem in exactly the same way KP did a few years later with the guards at the heaven/hell doors.
13:53 Best bit imo, beer guy was sooo confused
You take the chicken across first. Then go back and take the seed across. Then take the chicken back with you, drop him off and pick up the fox. Take the fox over and go back and get the chicken. Boom.
Fox and seed are interchangeable but yes always take the chicken first, only take it back and always have it be last back across.
man moth - you're getting a lot of love on the 'Everything Ricky Gervais, Steve Merchant and Karl Dilkington' group on Facebook right now. you should join dude if you haven't already. make yourself known!
Ricky picking apart that brainteaser was more aggravating than any stupid thing Karl has said
20 seconds in, Steve said 'Gervais' 3 times already. Yep, this is Series 0 era.
It's funny what time does to you. I think of that 2004 Office special as that freakishly late office revival episode (like the 2001 OFAH). And yet this little promotional excerpt is vintage\seminal\OG RSK.
"GET EM OFF!!" Hahaha
still here
Just wish there was a website that had every episode listed in date order from xfm to end of the podcasts. Reddit is a bit of a minefield
The “tanning tale” at 41:15 with Ricky interrupting needs to be heard by more Karl fans.
It’s one of my favourite things with Ricky and Karl😂
The farmer and the hyper chicken cross the river, (the fuck off fox and corn are safe together), he leaves the chicken monster on the other side and goes back across.
The farmer then takes the fox across the river, and since he can't leave the fox and chicken together, he brings the chicken back.
Again, since the chicken and corn can't be left together, he leaves the chicken and he takes the corn across and leaves it with the fox.
He then goes to pick up the colossal chicken and rows across the river one last time.
Did you ever find the lost broadcasts? How would you even go about finding them? x
Wish they kept the bit of Karl talking about what would be on TV tonight for longer. It's funny.
Also, where did you get this stuff? It's pre-series 1 episode 1 with Karl?!
who WAS the beer guy??
I know these back to front but from what show is the shaving bit about? Maybe it was just a trailer 🤔
21:59 best noise smerch has made
Which episode is Stephens Strip joint anecdote from? Can't seem to find it anywhere else.
The doctor said "oooooh god." 42:52
Thanks Man Moth! Would you be able to direct me to the compilation called “Steve’s Best Bits”? It involves Steve talking about his dating woes, and a story involving a homeless man who moves to another city to be with his homeless girlfriend. Ring any bells? Haha any help appreciated. Thanks!
The first part is just like the office?
take the chicken go back take the fox but bring back the chicken and then take seed over leaving the chicken then come back for the chicken
30:47 Did they broadcast from inside a vent?
Imagine if Karl never went on XFM know one would know about the legend that is Karl
Maybe rename this clip "Odds and Sods?"
8:38 funniest man alive
So did Simon pegg and nick frost host for Ricky and Steve? And can we get that episode
When’s this bit from this sounds older than normal sounds like late 90’s
Steves version of pride though
I had no idea Radiohead were so big
What was the context of the beer phone call? Why was this person on the line to them?
Mate I would absolutely love to get free beers. I'd call you a cab. 👍👍👍😂😂
Where are these from? I have all radio shows and podcasts and have never heard these
+stoox006 The original Radio Shows when Karl wasn't producing I think. The shows when they got fired by XFM. Could also be when they first came back to xfm and Karl produced but didn't speak.

They done the fox and chicken thing on the office session 1
Fraser Skinner I think they use quite a bit of their conversations on their comedies ;) They used the conversation about Steve getting a widescreen TV that he thought was too big and David Dickinson came on and his tan nearly "Took his Eyeballs out." on Extras, with his character Darren Lamb xD
Ricky uses alot of his stand up on the xfm shows aswell
Fraser Skinner other way around though. xfm was first.
Take the chicken over, come back, take the fox over and bring the chicken back, take the seed over, come back and bring the chicken over
Carl, you are a maniac
33:53 That must've been what Karl sounded like when he was a kid
