I-cord was something that seemed very daunting to me when I was knitting more regularly. You’ve proven it’s the simplest thing! Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Thank you for providing the correct instructions for knitting an i-cord. There are some interesting video tutorials out there that knit seed stitch strips, knit all types of stitch strips, but never creating the tube as is intended for an i-cord. Thanks again!
I'm not a new knitter, but first time learning this technique for a project I'm working on. Your lesson is clear and easy to follow. Thanks for sharing!
New to the icord stitch and I've tried several videos and even printed out "instructions" but I've never been able, for whatever reason, to figure it out. Very thankful I came across your videos because halfway through watching and I knew exactly what to do! Thank you so very much for taking the time to do this tutorial, you made learning super easy!!!!!!
I'm not a new knitter, but am now taking it up again after many years of not dong it. These are going to be refresher courses for me and I'm really enjoying watching them.
I tried several of the I cord videos, but yours was the only one I could understand and follow. I'm trying to make legs for my first crocheted spider. THANK YOU!
Thank you for making such clear instructions. I want new cording for my corset and victorian boots and the I-cord is the modern term for that type of fastening. I was super confused by the period instructions but it's very simple.
So easy when you explain it the way you have explained it. I was trying to follow written instructions, and I felt like I was standing on my head. Thank you !!
Hi! I am trying to create straps but instead of becoming a tube my straps just look like a regular rs on one side, and on the ws you can see lines of yarn. What am I doing wrong?
COOL!! This is spool knitting without the spool! I wish I would've seen your channel before I bought my spool. I knit faster with my needles than with the spool. (it's wooden with metal rings on top, not the hand-crank kind btw)
Ah, +Elsa Chavez - Glad to know knitting wins out over a gadget! I've never tried the spool before and wondered what it was like. Thanks so much for watching.
The clarity of your instructions works really well for me. Can i use this for an icord cast on please? I am a beginner knitter who doesnt have anyone to ask questions like this of.
I can’t seem to get this, the back of my icord has a horizontal yarn coming across it, what am I doing wrong? I’ve watched the video 5 times and can’t seem to get it.
Can anyone help me with this? I tried pulling the working yarn which is in the left most side, to knit the right most side of the cast on stitch. since m pulling the last stitch (working yarn) towards the first, a straight line is forming at the back of my stitch through out. I am not understanding whats wrong with the technique am doing.
You slide it down so that the leading piece of yarn (the one running to the skein) essentially pulls the two sides of the cord together as you knit. The first 10 rows or so will look completely wrong and messy, but if you tug down on the knitted piece (or in this case, tug to the left) after each row, it will tighten the i cord and it will start to look right. Hope that made sense.
Hi! Thank you so much for this video! I am knitting some cute baby caps with a knot on top. The pattern is knitted in the round on several double pointed needles and calls for an icord on top to knot. How do I do am icord on moving from needle to needle? I hope you understand my question! Thank you!
Hi :) I am a bit stuck. Are you knitting a long rectangle then weaving in your ends? I don't know how it becomes a long cord :( Great video though! I really enjoyed it & I subscribed :) I'm just stuck on how it becomes a cord. Amy :)
Give it a try and you'll probably understand it after about 5 rows. We are using Double Pointed Needles. By sliding the stitches to the end of the needle, it creates a cord automatically! Really cool! Amy's Wooly World of Creations
Please reply to me cause i really want to know what size needles are u using it is my dream to start knitting that seem pretty simple for a beginner so please tell me what size needles are u using
Hi Reannah! I was using size 8US needles. But you can use any size that works well with your yarn choice. Your yarn package will tell you the recommended needle size! Happy knitting!
I hope to hear a response from here since all other searches have failed. I understand the basic i-cord, but a set of instructions I am following are a tad tricky and I have literally spent all day trying to make it look right. The instructions have me knitting an i-cord where I knit the odd rows and purl the even rows. I simply cannot figure it out and I cannot find anything on the internet on how to purl an i-cord that is easy enough to follow for a beginner. HELP!
Hmmmm....that's a bummer, Jordan Elle. If they really don't carry double pointed needles at your local yarn store or craft store like Michaels, then I would search something like amazon for "double pointed needles." Hope this helps!!
+Sydney Spangler Maybe if you're an awesome "magic loop" knitter, you can make an i-cord, but I haven't tried to do so yet. Let me know if you give it a try!
Studio Knit I emailed you those patterns using the email address printed on your website. They are entirely my designs so if there are any others like them then I have not copied.(vice versa) hope you can film one of them. Jess

Glad it was helpful!
I looked at a LOT of I-cord videos and this is far and away the best one!!

I tried several of the I cord videos, but yours was the only one I could understand and follow. I'm trying to make legs for my first crocheted spider. THANK YOU!
+Heidi Sweetwater Yay!! Happy to hear it!!!!
Is it weird that I heard Bernie Sanders in my head while reading your comment LOL
Thank you I've been struggling with that for ages. Your the only one in here that has slowed down so that I can see what's going on
Thank you for making such clear instructions. I want new cording for my corset and victorian boots and the I-cord is the modern term for that type of fastening. I was super confused by the period instructions but it's very simple.
Once I saw that the working yarn was being drawn across the back **It clicked! TY TY for showing that so well!
You can also use circular knitting needles and just slide the loops down the nylon connecter.
THIS is a comment I was hoping for. I only have circular needles. Thanks!
@@gabriellethomas2062 I, too, immediately wondered that after 20secs into the video :)
made a water bottle holder for my daughter and just made my first Icord and it is just perfect!!!!! I love your videos!
+Heather Geronimo Awesome!! Sounds cute.
How did you gauge for that?
I have watched many vids on making I cords and your's is the easiest and most simple and it works! Thank you!
after at least a dozen videos, yours worked, and I`m left handed!. Thank you sooo much
Glad it helped!
So easy when you explain it the way you have explained it. I was trying to follow written instructions, and I felt like I was standing on my head. Thank you !!

Omg this was so easy to do! It's amazing. I needed to knit a rope to keep something on a shelf and omg it's so useful!
Thank you! I read the instructions, I listened to an explanation, I but I didn't get it until I watched your video.
Hi! I am trying to create straps but instead of becoming a tube my straps just look like a regular rs on one side, and on the ws you can see lines of yarn. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you so much for the video! I have watched several people do the i-cord, and I couldn't quite follow. You made it really clear.
Thankyou!!!!!! I have been sat trying to work this out on a pattern that I'm going to start and I couldn't get my head around it!! Thankyou so much xx
Glad I could help!
So easy thank you I have been knitting for a few years and wanted to learn how to make this thank you very easy!

1:16 Jzshooom! I'm sorry but that was ADORABLE 😭
Thank you, I bought a book about knitting animals but did not quite understand how it was describing the technique. Well presented, will subribe.
You always explain things so well! Thank you.
Thank you so much, Ginger!
Never knew you could do this. Fab, thank you 😊
I am knitting i-cord for a mouse tail ... after watching your video feel my mouse will love her tail. thank you
After doing a few rows as instructed the front of the icord looks correct but there is a string of yarn in back of each row. What am I missing?
COOL!!

The clarity of your instructions works really well for me. Can i use this for an icord cast on please? I am a beginner knitter who doesnt have anyone to ask questions like this of.
Thanks so much. The I-Cord Cast On is a bit different. It's on my list to film. Happy my videos are helpful to you!
I can’t seem to get this, the back of my icord has a horizontal yarn coming across it, what am I doing wrong? I’ve watched the video 5 times and can’t seem to get it.

Fun project idea, Tansley!

Can you please tell why sliding down the knit section matters? I love your videos! :)

Wonderful. Thank you. Good instructions for me.
Amazing channel really helpful keep it up !!
Thank you for the kind words of encouragement, purenada - and thank you for watching!

A knitted basketball tutorial is a great idea, Jordan Elle - I'll put it on my list, thanks!
I play basketball and when u uplod it I am gonna make some for my team
hello i've just started knitting & dint know you can knit with slipknot?
Yes, the first stitch in knitting is a slip knot! Here's my video about it. Have fun!! ua-cam.com/video/EjSJfsudZnE/v-deo.html

+Sabourok That sounds really interesting. I think it means just knit one row, then purl the next row. Yes? Good luck!
How would you make a cane cane out of an i-cord??
what is the use of I-Cord ? I've never heard about it
Is it mandatory to have double pointed needles for this project? Thank you! :)
+MarblesTheKitty Channel Yes, it is.
no, its not -- you can use circular needles and just slide the loops down the nylon connector so your in the same position as if with DPN!
What size needles are you using?
To create your I-cord, simply use a knitting needle size that best corresponds to your yarn's weight & gauge. Thanks for watching!!!
Are I cords hollow inside? I want to make something and is a small tube
Indeed they are hollow! Yay!
did i understand correctly that icord can be made with only 2 stitches?
I can not find double ended needles anywhere but I really want to make it what should i do!!!
Hmmmm....that's a bummer, Jordan Elle. If they really don't carry double pointed needles at your local yarn store or craft store like Michaels, then I would search something like amazon for "double pointed needles." Hope this helps!!
Thanks I am gonna look on amazon
can u use circulars for this instead of double pointed
+Sydney Spangler Maybe if you're an awesome "magic loop" knitter, you can make an i-cord, but I haven't tried to do so yet. Let me know if you give it a try!
do you have to use double pointed needles?
Hi, Jess C - Yes, you definitely must use double pointed needles (also known as DPNs) for making an I-Cord.
Studio Knit could you try it with double sharpened pencils? I was thinking about it last night
Studio Knit I emailed you those patterns using the email address printed on your website. They are entirely my designs so if there are any others like them then I have not copied.(vice versa) hope you can film one of them.
Jess
You can use circular needles too -- just like one giant DPN, sliding the work all the way down the cord to the other needle
😍😍👍👍
Mine is flat?
I don't have double pointed needles
could you give e some tips
What's an I cord?
That's not fair !
