The colour is perfect, when it comes to a star Destroyer, you pick a grey hue and within reason that shade would have appeared in one of the movie's shot or another. The one thing to watch out for though, if you want total screen accuracy is the tractor beam "X" shaped device on the top of the bridge stands upright in a New Hope and lies flat in Empire and Jedi as in the Bandai kit. Fantastic job, great hints and tips through your build, thank you👍 Jas😊
Re colour - it also depends on which movie you're watching. The actual models were painted different colours between episodes IV, V, & VI. So you paint it whatever darned colour you think looks best to YOU...!
I have this kit and haven’t started it yet. I’m not too happy with the way they have the battery pack inside the model. I’m probably going to re-wire the bulbs so I can move the battery pack externally. Thanks for making this video and awesome work!
Looks great, and I appreciate the care and attention to detail and proportion. I’m working on Bandai’s much smaller kit of the SD, but I recognize many of the details scaled up here. Couple thoughts. 1) I think your base is better (you thought it not) because, ideally to my mind, you’d want a base to be as minimalist as possible to simulate a ship suspended in space. 2) The more I look at the panel lining (and do the panel lining), along with the aztec’ing and the like, the more ship ends up appearing as a patchwork of grey farm fields as seen from the air. Would these ships truly have been assembled out of so many small panels? The effect is odd to me, versus larger swathes of relatively smooth surfaces (even if details are molded, not picked out with paint) of an even color. The visual shows/films are of little help in terms of any definitive look, as the SDs do change in color and such. Regardless, I learned much, and I’m subscribing to your channel.
Love the ship! As for "what color is it?" Well different models were used for different movies in the original Trilogy, and they were mostly CGI in "Rogue One" and "Rise of Skywalker", so....
an amazing painting ! i have bought this model and now i wonder what is the easiest way to get a metallic look, i totally noobs on painting and i was wondering if spray could be a solution ?
Did you consider using an oil wash for the details? I have the same model sitting around and that's what I'm thinking. I may try panel lining a small portion of it with tamiya liner just to see if a) i like the result and if it's relatively easy to clean up and b) it'll take me several years to panel line everything on that guy.
To add fuel to the grey fire... If we use WWII as an example (and why not since star wars has ALLOT of WWII inspiration) different ship yards produce ships and sometimes its hard to supply them with the exact same paints. So these grey hulls could vary in shade and for some countries in entire colour. Now we have a GALACTIC empire, with huge shipyards building huge ships with a strained supply network. So the idea all ISD's would be consistent in colour would be impossible to believe. On screen is easier to be consistent. I can fully imagine a fleet of ISD's being white grey, blue grey, cream grey, green grey and then you have personalised vessels. It'd realistically be quite a mismatch.
What type of LED did you use for the engines. They look great. They seem to be blue but I thought you had white LED? I am starting a similar build but it’s an AMT model.
Good job but a wash on such a small scale model ruins the scale effect you would barely see the panel lines at that scale, just very subtle panelling is enough let the light catch the panel line
well no light put in its great as if now have fun and put a bumper stiker tyat says we brake foe nobotay yes like one in space balls LOL i hope do space ball 11 hard might do it yes the sertch fore more monny you got to reply to theat its funny LOL
"This is where the fun begins..." - good reference!
pro tip : you can watch movies at Kaldrostream. I've been using it for watching a lot of movies recently.
@Riley Odin Definitely, have been using kaldroStream for months myself :D
@Riley Odin Yea, been watching on kaldrostream for months myself =)
Oooh, so soon? Thank you good sir! And frikkin' well done too, and I'd love to see more build vlogs.
Amazing painting‼︎ Thanks for sharing‼︎
This is gorgeous, nothing else to say.

Amazing
That looks extremely good as is Doc. It's better with the grey in my opinion.
Looks real good...thanks for sharing.
"normally I would never drybrush a model"
Wait, but I learned about drybrushing from your website!
That looks awesome, especially for the scale. Well done!
So awesome
Absolute Cool Doc well done

They are pure white, but on screen with the lighting it looks blue grey :)

Ótimas dicas!!!!
Dang. Nice.

I was going to, but I went with the enamel washes since I already had the colors I wanted.

Did you use some clear after painting?

They came with the kit. See part 1.
Wouldn't this be an ideal model for an oilwash? Since it's not drying as fast it can be removed from the raised areas more easily?
I guess it depends on what thinner you are using, but I haven't noticed oil washes taking significantly longer to dry.
🍻🍺

Why not just make your own wash? Use oils. You could make sure the wash is correct shade. Easier to work with, I understand.
