Indeed!! He's actually shown us locals *how much* we do *not* know about the place we grew up in. Should be given an honorary Singapore *Tourism Ambassador* title!!😁😃
A lot of people got mixed up after the renovation few years ago at Changi hawker centre when all the food stalls were re-shuffled. The original famous nasi lemak is International Nasi Lemak which used to occupy the unit which Mizzy is occupying now. International Nasi lemak is now at the first row facing the bus interchange. Goes to show some people just queue blindly and they can't tell the difference in taste. Go to the first row facing the bus interchange and look for the sign board "International Muslim Food Stall Nasi Lemak".
11:08 "beer and good food is all you need to be happy" So true! I like your content, I think you're my favorite UA-camr in Singapore. I almost said Singaporean UA-camr because you already feel like a local
I love the beach at Changi Village. Even more so than the one at East Coast Park. It’s probably the last natural beach left in Singapore. Most of our coastlines underwent land reclamation so the beaches aren’t naturally formed ones anymore.
Love this video. Me and my boyfriend (now my husband) used to go to the Changi beach twenty plus years ago. We have so much of wonderful memories of that place. Thank you for this lovely video.
I agree with what u your view point on Sugar cane juice... locals will most likely opt for Sugar cane juice rather than coconut most of the time too :)
You should explore the sunset walk which is along the coastal boardwalk at changi village. Go in the late afternoon to see beautiful sunset! I even spotted otters when i was there last time.
That is where i take photos of planes with my long zoom lens. Love that place. Nice and windy... when it's very windy it's good, no mosquitos... they get blown away...
Yes this place has many childhood memories for me. Glad you like it! Take a walk further in and look at the black and white holiday chalets, some of them are beautiful, especially Fairy Point chalet 7. One of the chalets is Changi Cottage, where Lee Kuan Yew and his family had to stay at one time.
So excited to see u exploring and loving changi village! I used to go to Changi Beach a lot during the weekends as a child. Loveeeee looking at planes flying above while picnicking! Now as an adult, I still go to Changi beach, at most 3x a year. Really a fav spot!!
- As mentioned by some of your viewers, Mizzy used to be better than International, but the tables turned after they renovated the hawker centre. - There is a restaurant called Coastal Settlements nearby. The food is so-so, but it is a quaint little place that houses a lot of antiques like cars, furniture etc. - There are a lot of nekos in that area. I used to feed them in the evening. They are probably hiding from the heat in the afternoon. - From Changi Village, you can take a 30 min boat ride to Pulau Ubin. There is a house on the island that is open to public. You can see how old kampong houses used to look like. There are durian and rambutan trees on the island too, but you need a good eye to spot them. - You might want to visit Henderson Wave too. Love your videos. Keep them coming :)
Hello Ghib, you are right. Singaporeans like to stay in their comfort zone. They are quite a number of unexplored areas in Singapore that locals do not even know. Thanks for the introduction to Changi Village.
Finally! Glad you like the place. In the evenings you'll actually see people wading in the water with their nets to catch fish and stuff. The breeze by the park is amazing too. I'd recommend coming during that time of the day rather than noontime.
I love your videos and point of view and trying to close the gap by localizing your lingo. Good perspective and I love that your videos are bilingual. 💕
The like of you eating Nasi Lemak is really cute! It's like you've found the holy grail of Nasi Lemak. And I'm surprised that you know Pulau Ubin! You should do a review one day and have their seafoods. Rent a bike and enjoy hiking, mesmerizing quarry and the sound of nature.
Growing up and going to school in S'pore in the 60s we used to swim and picnic there after end of term exams. Those were the days before the airport got located there and Changi was so far away for us.
Changi Village is my husband's and my favourite place. The seat you sat near the beach is our favourite seat. We can seat there for hours and enjoy the scenery.
Beer and good food man! Life is good! You're sooo right. I visited Singapore last year, and absolutely loved it I remember one night after a great day sight-seeing, I had a huge glass of beer at one of those places outside the Marina Bay Shoppes, then went to sit on the boardwalk. I was definitely feeling good 😁 Then it started drizzling, and a cool breeze blew, and there were low clouds across the bay, with lightning flashing in and around them...it was great. I took a selfie (which I usually don't do) to remember that great feeling I had at that moment. I was taking a video of the clouds, and lightning etc., and was narrating it. Only when I reached home, and reviewed the footage did I realise/remember I said "Singapore I love you!" 😂OMG, I was a bit drunk...
I love the vibe of Changi Village too. It was my getaway place... check myself into the Changi Village hotel and stay a night or two. Check out the pool and restaurant (La Cantina) on the hotel roof top the next time you are there. Amazing views!
From the jetty, an hour ferry ride will bring you to Pengerang (South Eastern tip of Johor - Malaysia). You need a passport to enter but once through, there's a whole new area for you to explore, from popular eateries to quiet town/villages. You can rent a bike or take a taxi at the Johor side jetty. Further north is Desaru (1 hr drive) popular spot for Singaporeans/Malaysians. Go find out more, definitely worth making a day trip if you like rustic places ans its pretty near Singapore.
Changi Village is also my favorite place to hang out. A good respite from work. Changi Beach Carpark 4 is where you can see airplanes land very close. Changi Village Hotel Level 7 has a nice Italian restaurant with a good sea view.
During the evening cockatoo parrots and all sorts of tropical parrots will come back and roost in the trees in changi village! V cool from the usual mynahs
There are a plethora of Nasi Lemak stall at this hawker center. Everyone flock there to open a Nasi Lemak stall due to what the place is famous for. However, based on my research, the one that started it all is a stall call "International Nasi Lemak" (has a green signboard) or something like that. I tried almost every existing Nasi Lemak stall there at Changi Village and indeed, International's the one that come up top - for me at least.
changi village is a famous spot to book chalets! nice sea view with great atmosphere, love to just rent a night at the a chalet and have a beer and bbq with friends
hmm If I am not wrong, the famous stall in the earlier days was "International Muslim Food Stall Nasi Lemak". As for those deep fried small fish, we call it "ikan bilis". A basic nasi lemak is usually about the nice fragrance rice, crispy ikan bilis, sambal chili and a small slice of omelette. Items like chicken wings, fishcake, otak came in later days when people no longer eat it just a simple fast meal. By the way, I notice Ghib san is a fan of sugarcane juice ya. 😀 And if you walked further to the Changi Beach Park, there is a sad history of it during the World War 2.....😓
The stall he went to Mizzy Corner is the right famous one. Basically it is a constant fight between the two stalls which one is THE nasi lemak of Changi V. Personally, I prefer Mizzy Corner.
Recommend you to visit seletar aerospace area, there are many old British colonial bungalows there. Used to be more in the early days but now still quite a handful of these old houses, you can visit later afternoon through night where you could find some restaurants and live band bars. Check out the airport runway too
Used to go there a lot, when I was riding bike. Usually went there at late night for supper, then we would go see “ ah gua” or explore the old Changi hospital.
I would like to recommend you to a similar place called Labrador Park. If you walk along the coast road, it will lead you to the iconic condominium called The Reflections. Visit early in the morning.
That is nice... Reflections @ Keppel Bay Condo was designed by Daniel Libeskind. 6 distinctive curved glass residential towers. Look up to the 41st storey penthouse the outdoor area is amazing...
I grew up in Changi during the 80s. It's so nice to see the beaches and the water much cleaner now. In the past it was so dirty that you would come out of the sea with patches of tar stuck to your body.
If you actually walked further down the park for about 15 to 20 minutes, you can chill along the beach as the planes land or take off directly over your head. Quite a spectacle, so much so sometimes I just get caught up watching plane after plane after plane land/take off. Have fun and stay safe, Ghib-san.
Correction my friend , It was the biggest Royal Airforce( RAF) Base outside England when the British were ruling Singapore and the other colonies. The airport was where the airforce base was earlier. Changi village was the central area where all the Asian employees of the RAF were housed until the end of the 70s.
By the way the famous Nasi Lemak is International Nasi Lemak if I am not mistaken. Because the place was renovated and the stall you bought your Nasi Lemak was the spot the International Nasi Lemak was. But both food are the same. Maybe from the same family I wonder.
You must visit Pulau Ubin. The island feels very untouched. Time seems to have stopped there since the 1980s. You'll have to rent a bicycle to cycle around the place and there's a lot to explore there which can take you a whole day. For a short/first visit, most would just visit Chek Kawa Wetlands which can take 1/2 a day. Look forward to the video if you ever go there!
Changi village area is deeper than this video youve shown. There are colonial houses deeper in the chalet area. The commando camp. The hotel inside has a very good restaurant with a view of the sea. La cantina venezia
There are also two famous competing noodle staff, one is name amigo, the other one is Weng if I remember correct. Must try the Ipoh hor fun , mince meat Mee pok and add a chicken cutlet. They have been there like 30 years
The coastal board walk is really long. You should walk all the way to the end where there are many chalets along the way and then walk back via the inner roads where there is the eerie looking old changi hospital. If you go much further in the opposite direction on the island you were, you will get to more rest stops till you get to see aeroplanes fly past in the skies above you..very nice :D Evening time is v nice too
I usually go to Changi Village, walk along the beach area until i come to this place near the end of a runway of the Changi Airport... It is not too far, you can see from the map. Sometimes you see planes coming directly over your head... i'll use my Panasonic G9 with my Lumix Leica 100-400 lens and take photos of planes, an aviation spotter. There is nice and windy... sunset time is beautiful... leaving the place i'll walk back to the bus terminal near the hawker centre. Sometimes i go to the Anders to eat before i go.
Changi Village is also one of the places where a lot of singaporean fishermen go to as well! thats one of the places where u can board a boat and go to one of the Kelongs there! you can only find Kelongs in south east asia if im not wrong, theyre places where fish for eating are reared, and for fishermen to fish from!
If you like interesting nature spots, Little Guilin Park at Bukit Gombak MRT is quite cool, as well as Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (quite inaccessible tho)! You can spot wild crocodiles in the swamps there
Thank you for another great video and showing us around Changi Village. I felt like a tourist! Haha 😂 birds are a big problem in many famous Hawker centres for many years now. People are not feeding them, but coz Singaporean don’t usually clear their own plates after they are done, the birds will come almost immediately!! 😳😣😣 Other than our Singapore government culling them, we should clear up our plates after ourselves and be a socially responsible person, not coz there is a fine now if caught not clearing the plates after you are done at Hawker centres.then in years to come, their population can be controlled. Nowadays besides crows, we have a lot of pigeons!
This ojisan has a really free-spirited and open heart. No wonder he is so likeable.
agree 😁
I agree
I feel like Singapore Tourism Board should sponsor you.
Indeed!!
He's actually shown us locals *how much* we do *not* know about the place we grew up in.

You are absolutely right. The pace of life just slows down at Changi Village, which is why I really love that place.

You should come bishan park on weekends. Its really an amazing experience to be in nature yet so close to housing, shopping, etc
Sunset is even more beautiful

Changi Village is a nice, quiet and laid-back place. You can find lots of good food there, and you can even see Pulau Tekong in the distance.

I just went Changi village for dinner and chilled at Little Island Brewery last weekend. highly recommended!!
Pengerang is a quaint little village in Johor, Malaysia. Has pretty good and cheap seafood... there's also an ostrich farm there.
haha nice to see you explore the obscure places in Singapore! Keep it up! Hope to bump into you filming some day!
There is a place called Japanese Garden near Lakeside MRT
The small fish (anchovy) is 'ikan bilis'. 'Ikan pari' is stingray

You can try visit the more "nature" part of Singapore like Bukit Timah Hill, MacRitchie trail or Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.
Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is good. Go in the morning on a good weather day. Check the weather forecast that it is not raining...

Used to go there a lot, when I was riding bike. Usually went there at late night for supper, then we would go see “ ah gua” or explore the old Changi hospital.
Walk along the costal walk towards Changi Sailing Club. Nice sunset!
Bedok Central has lotsa hawker food stalls. Very heartland, very local which you should try it out some day.
Pengerang is Johor Bahru Malaysia . Used to be a fishing village now turned oil / gas distribution industry area.

Heard you wondering Pengerang, the ferry will bring you to Johore Malaysia, Pengerang will lead you to Desaru Resort, you need a passport to go there
Awesome video and commentary 👌

Pengerang is a port at the south east coast of Malaysia. From there you can travel straight to Desaru
every time i see ghib puts his camera down behind him and walk away, i kinda worry that one day his camera's gonna get snatched by someone
It's Singapore. Chances of that happening are very low.
Chances very very low and even if it happens, the culprit will be caught in no time with the help of surrounding CCTVs

@@mauricehan2594 well i dont agreed , singapore or anywhere , leaving your things unattended is asking for it , playing a part to entice thieves
I said low chances, didn't say wont't happen. You would still need to be careful. It's safer here than the rest of the region.
You missed the famous Chendol in Changi which is opposite the Hawker Centre.
チャンギ・ヴィレッジいいですよね!ウビン島にいくときに行った気が。シンガポールの情報楽しみにしてます!
Try Macritchie Reservoir. Nice place to relax.
By the way the famous Nasi Lemak is International Nasi Lemak if I am not mistaken. Because the place was renovated and the stall you bought your Nasi Lemak was the spot the International Nasi Lemak was. But both food are the same. Maybe from the same family I wonder.

Panggerang is the eastern part of Johore n u can go to Desaru Beach resort from there.
Changi village area is deeper than this video youve shown. There are colonial houses deeper in the chalet area. The commando camp. The hotel inside has a very good restaurant with a view of the sea. La cantina venezia

There is a desert stall selling red tea jelly. You should try it if you have the chance to go there again
That is nice!

Little Guilin Park at Bukit Gombak MRT is beautiful... very unique in Singapore.
Do visit Pulau Ubin one day. I am sure you will love this kampung island.
You got a viewer from Malaysia now. Love your video
I was just there last week!! 😂 amazing timing lol AND I ALSO ATE NASI LEMAK!! But in a different stall lol
Thanks for the love ❤️❤️
