  • A look at what I do for a toilet and shower on the road. My name is Brian. I live on the road full time in my self built camper van. Join me on my adventures. In this video I show my camp shower setup and what I use for a toilet. Adapting to a different ways of the essential needs has not been a problem. Using an outdoor shower and bucket toilet has been working out great for me. I enjoy the simplicity of this lifestyle. Thanks for watching!

Because I do a lot of training out in the desert, I use this same system. I found that you can buy biodegradable trash bags on Amazon. I just bury the used bags, and let nature run its course over time. No harm to the environment. Great video thanks

Thanks good video some people put a little kitty litter in the bottom of the toilet bag, it helps with smells and absorbs any fluids.

Brian, the weed sprayer idea is so inventive!! It's amazing how you've helped so many people with this issue! Also, I like how you put the bag over the seat of the toilet...another great idea!!

I own one of those shower tents and they are good I have mine set in the yard and it can handle the weather. IF you have a kid that waits for the bus and you want them to have a dry spot to chill I strongly suggest getting them one of these so they can wait out a monsoon.
I use kitty litter bottles painted black for water heating. I set it in a spot place some reflectors around the bottle and let her rip the water is 120 degrees by noon I can get it hotter but 120 is just right for my dish water. I pour the solar heated water in my sink then I cover it and let the heat work on my dishes. Shot of bleach and it is the safest way to do your dishes. I could use the water for shower or for clothes but I have all that on the grid I just wanted to see if this is a potential solution and it is.

I know this is an older video. Excellent stuff.
If you're still monitoring comments, you can uograde your oil catch with a clothes washer pan, or water heater pan. Inexpensive, more room, and the option to catch the (waste) water via the incorporated drain.

Best shower setup ever! Thank you! I line my Porta Potti, seat and all, with scented bags for solid waste - very clean and easy to dispose of. Having the Porta Potti is nice because in addition to using it as intended for liquid waste (I clean inside the bowl with a hydrogen peroxide/water spray afterwards instead of doing a normal water flush), I can also use it with a hand-held travel bidet to stay fresh in between showers.

I want to make one of those pump showers. I don't really go camping or RVing. However, I want one for emergencies. I'm in Eastern Mass and sometimes we can get a good hurricane or blizzard and it can knock out power for a number of days. As he said, heating up water on the stove (I have a gas stove) and pouring it in the sprayer tank with cooler water and bring it into the tub and have a decent enough shower when the power wont let the furnace or boilers run. I live in a big apartment building and sometimes we are without hot water for one reason or another. If I made one of these, I would not be inconvenienced very much when the SHTF around here.
Another advantage is I could take a shower late at night without running the water in the tub and making noise other tenants could hear with the water rushing through the pipes. I can hear when others use the water in the bathroom. I could just fill it from the kitchen sink and bring it into the tub and take a quiet shower when I want to.
    I can't wait to make one. :-)

Great video as always! I use the bucket method. To keep the smell down, I use Dry cold ashes from campfire rings. Underneath and above the waste. If I am at a place for more than one day, I can get multiable uses out of one bag. It's no big deal I usually clean out the campfire ring before having a fire anyway.

Thank you for demonstrating your showering dispenser again! I went to Home Depot this morning and got the supplies, put it together, and took a shower (at home in order to test it) and it worked great! Since I found 1.5 gallons to be sufficient, your recommendation of a 2-gallon capacity is perfect in order to allow some extra water if necessary! I am really looking forward to being able to go back to Quartzsite, AZ and spend more than just one night this time boondocking in the desert because I will be able to shower (I am only tolerating things without a daily shower or swim)! Next, I plan to buy an enclosure. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!

For the past month, been watching all the rv'ers and vanners (I have a mature Caravan that I want to transform), there have been so many videos with poor acoustics etc., and for a beginner, it's hard to take in all the info. What I liked about your video is that you show what you do for showers etc. and also tell about the negative experiences, like that Coleman bag shower - keeps people from blowing their $$ on junky lame products.
    Good stuff,

Good set up, have deen doing that process for years now when I camp out.
It seems like you could find a heater eliment run off a battery to insert in the sprayer to warm the water.
I made a 1 1/2" aluminium tubing fram that just hooks together, then slide the privacy tent over and stake to ground. Makes it strong enough for wind and hanging wet towels inside. Use a plastic pallet as a floor, water runs thru keeps your feet easier to dry and less contamination from traking in and out.

This is a great set-up. Only recommendation I have s to use compostable trash bags on the toilet. That way you can take them out of the bucket and burry them, instead of having to find a trash bin. Be careful not to buy the 'recycled' trash bags because they are still plastic; make sure you have the ones that compost.

I'm with you on solar showers, they suck. Plus if you pour water in that's too warm it can melt the bag. I accidentally did that once living in a dry cabin for a year. Wish I knew about your sprayer setup back then!

Toilets: It seems very wasteful (pun : ) to use a whole huge, black bag for each use. Some use sawdust type materials as layers between uses, you could also tie off or twist tie between sections. Diaper Genies use the same method of twisting the bag between diapers.

I literally ran to the nearest waste dumpster and bailed the litter, opened all the doors and blasted the van with freebreze. I drove away laughing and talking to myself, saying "this is my van" not a cat litter box. l even apologised to my van !!! no dice, the best way is Brian's way !🙀💩

We used to shower right in our van with a pvc pan used under a typical residential water heater. It's lots big to stand in and catches all of the water for a typical shower.. ours had a drain on the side and we used to drag the pan to the door and just let it drain out..Spot on about the solar shower bag ..way too time consuming to deal with.

If you drilled and tapped the top of the sprayer bottle(under the neck) and installed a threaded Schrader valve with epoxy, you could pressurize without pumping with a 12v tire inflator/compressor. You could also add a regulator so you could leave the air pump running or use an air tank without fear of over pressurizing the weed sprayer bottle.

    Hello AdventureVanMan
I see you keep your propane tank in the bucket INSIDE the van. Do you use it inside as well (cooking, heating)?
I've been persuaded to not use or keep any propane tank inside my popup trailer, but I want to hear about your experience.

Experience doesn't count. Some people will be lucky while others wont. I suggest reading gas company safety tips and OSHA's regulations. Flash fires, explosions, carbon monoxide poisoning/death (cooking or heater related)...just to give you an idea.
And you are right. The tank must always remain outside, except special cabinets vented only to the outdoors like RVs have.
Stay safe and enjoy your travels!

If u kept the wide opening one, would the weed sprayer fit inside? That should help heat without using camp stove. Let me know.

Go to the dollar store and get a square dish pan. Works great for me.
