Drake was definitely paying homage to two of his favorites. The song "When to say when" samples Jay Z's "Song Cry" and "Chicago Freestyle" samples Eminem's "Superman" Both of those songs being very popular in their time in the early 2000s.
He used it Chicago Freestyle, and most of the time when people do that it’s paying homage, especially when you know the history with Em and Drake, Drake literally called him the Goat on the Summer Sixteen Tour in Detroit and Eminem said in a interview that Drake will forever be in his good graces because of something he did for one of Em’s daughters.
That’s part of what made Chicago Freestyle by Drake so good … it was wicked when that tribute to Eminem and his flow from the song Superman kicked in. Both great tracks.
2 things fellas. 1) LL Cool J was the first rapper to use the word "unfurl". 2) The line "good lordy woadie you must be gone off that water bottle" came from Master P via Louisiana slang. Great video. Happy to contribute.
