His message is that the government didn't care how violent the words were in Black rap because only the black community was listening to it but when he came along and drew white suburban kids into overall rap they (white parents/government) got scared and started attacking his music/lyrics etc. He is saying the government didn't care about any negative impact on black america but when rap started bleeding over to white youth they freaked. When this came out his outro speech on this song really punched our government in the dick. I remember them holding Senate hearings on his music. Today's "cancel culture" can get your reputation destroyed, but back in '01 they were REALLY trying to cancel cancel this guy with our federal government. I bought the casette in 2002. i still remember listening to the first song. white america, and reading the lyrics, and tears of anger running down my cheeks. Eminem was and is a soothsayer, and the amount of self-awareness, language skills, and deep thinking he possesses, even when he comes from a poverty-stricken, neglectful background, was what shocked and bemused me. I remember thinking how could he live like this, with so much awareness of the hate generated, not just towards him, specifically, but the hate generated in the world. HE was the only one who said it out loud and I still love him for that, and this epic album (which I believe is his best so far).

The biggest point em was making in this song was, America didn't care about rap when they thought it was limited to the projects and the ghettos. ie predominantly black and minority living areas. However, with Eminem blowing up and every middle to upper class white American children were now listening, now the government wants to step in and analyze what's being said by the artist the kids are listening to. This song is meant to point out the clear racial double standard that is going on with America, they don't care about anything until it starts affecting the middle and upper class white families. Eminem also acknowledges that if he were black he would not be doing the sales he is doing now. He claims that he's so successful because now white kids are now listening to rap music more because with Eminem they feel like they can relate to him (because he's white and "looks like them"). This song was very deeply meaningful and still highlights issues of race and the government that are still a problem to this day.

Wayne & Em have such different styles that it is hard to pick one over the other. Both are amazing. This song came out when America was so different. No cell phones (or just coming out but not smart phones). Social media wasn't really around yet. It was on the national news about Tipper Gore and Congress trying to get Em banned....hip hop was just starting to really get popular. Prior to that is was "gangsta rap" (which I loved) and the politicians didnt really pay attention to it. Then Em hit the scene and his music was being played on MTV and the radio and all of sudden parents were protesting freedom of speech. And he fought them, thankfully.
its crazy looking at teh more recent reactions to Em, Brandon, I think his name is has came full circle, once he kind of understood a bit more about Em. See, I think this album is very hard to grasp how good it is if you werent raised in that time period. It's hard to appreciate a song like "Square Dance" if you dont know the beef behind it, etc. Or This song and not know the legal hotwater he was in during it. I could tell Brandon wasn't grasping the point of the song, which is fine, but it would've been cool if someone who was an experienced Em listener was there to explain and break it down why he made this track. But, I will say Wayne made way better club tracks and cruisin tracks than Em and Em is my favorite rapper of all time. He's my favorite because I connected so well with him because of my parental issues with hating my mom (for not being there) and hating my dad because he was just like his mom, addict, crazy, etc. As I've gotten older, I LOVE that he's changed and isn't "slim" any more. I love the more mature type shit, same with an album like 4:44 by Jay. I have a huge passion for hiphop and the only two white rappers I listen to at ALL as a white man are Em and Rittz. Rittz I found because I am a Tech n9ne fan of his earlier work and that lead me to more artists. Rittz is in my top 10, but not close to top 5, personally. I just fucking love emcee's.
For a more modern song like this by Em check out "Untouchable" (2017). One of my favorite things about hip-hop is how it unapologetically tackles politics and social issues and calls out corrupt governments and systems. ✊✊

He grew up in 8 mile. He was one of the few white ppl living there. All his friends were Black, that was also his family. When he raps it’s all about the truth. His fan base is huge because he told the truth. He really stood out, because he was only 1 of very few Whites rapping back then. His music was so different.

As someone (a white dude if that matters) born in 1990 who basically grew up with Em the lyrics for the time period were spot-on. He wasn't saying that black people could only sell half of what he could because they were less popular or anything like that, he was saying that 'white america' was desperate for someone saying what he was saying - and - because they (disaffected suburban white teens) could more-closely relate to him he blew up.

I bought the casette in 2002. i still remember listening to the first song. white america, and reading the lyrics, and tears of anger running down my cheeks. Eminem was and is a soothsayer, and the amount of self-awareness, language skills, and deep thinking he possesses, even when he comes from a poverty-stricken, neglectful background, was what shocked and bemused me. I remember thinking how could he live like this, with so much awareness of the hate generated, not just towards him, specifically, but the hate generated in the world. HE was the only one who said it out loud and I still love him for that, and this epic album (which I believe is his best so far).

The biggest point em was making in this song was, America didn't care about rap when they thought it was limited to the projects and the ghettos. ie predominantly black and minority living areas. However, with Eminem blowing up and every middle to upper class white American children were now listening, now the government wants to step in and analyze what's being said by the artist the kids are listening to. This song is meant to point out the clear racial double standard that is going on with America, they don't care about anything until it starts affecting the middle and upper class white families. Eminem also acknowledges that if he were black he would not be doing the sales he is doing now. He claims that he's so successful because now white kids are now listening to rap music more because with Eminem they feel like they can relate to him (because he's white and "looks like them"). This song was very deeply meaningful and still highlights issues of race and the government that are still a problem to this day.

No cell phones (or just coming out but not smart phones). Social media wasn't really around yet. It was on the national news about Tipper Gore and Congress trying to get Em banned....hip hop was just starting to really get popular. Prior to that is was "gangsta rap" (which I loved) and the politicians didnt really pay attention to it. its crazy looking at teh more recent reactions to Em, Brandon, I think his name is has came full circle, once he kind of understood a bit more about Em. See, I think this album is very hard to grasp how good it is if you werent raised in that time period. It's hard to appreciate a song like "Square Dance" if you dont know the beef behind it, etc. Or This song and not know the legal hotwater he was in during it. I could tell Brandon wasn't grasping the point of the song, which is fine, but it would've been cool if someone who was an experienced Em listener was there to explain and break it down why he made this track. But, I will say Wayne made way better club tracks and cruisin tracks than Em and Em is my favorite rapper of all time. He's my favorite because I connected so well with him because of my parental issues with hating my mom (for not being there) and hating my dad because he was just like his mom, addict, crazy, etc. As I've gotten older, I LOVE that he's changed and isn't "slim" any more. I love the more mature type shit, same with an album like 4:44 by Jay. I have a huge passion for hiphop and the only two white rappers I listen to at ALL as a white man are Em and Rittz. Rittz I found because I am a Tech n9ne fan of his earlier work and that lead me to more artists. Rittz is in my top 10, but not close to top 5, personally. I just fucking love emcee's.
For a more modern song like this by Em check out "Untouchable" (2017). One of my favorite things about hip-hop is how it unapologetically tackles politics and social issues and calls out corrupt governments and systems. ✊✊
Eminem is the best because he is very self aware and can do any style of rap.. the only rapper who is just as hard as em is Wayne I can't really say either is better than the other. They are both perfect at what they do and no other rapper is

In my opinion In doesn’t matter if Eminem is white or black he’s still gonna be one of the best because the way he raps is unique and his skills is up there with the greatest and if he was black he’d have way more black fans. So it honestly doesn’t matter because saying Eminem is only popular because he’s white is like saying black rappers are only successful because they have more black fans. At the end of the day both white and black rappers have fans from every race so it honestly doesn’t matter.

This song is one of the greatest political songs of all time, as an Englishman who used to visit the US - I get it!! The events of 2020 underline the truth of his message for sure.
He grew up in 8 mile. He was one of the few white ppl living there. All his friends were Black, that was also his family. When he raps it’s all about the truth. His fan base is huge because he told the truth. He really stood out, because he was only 1 of very few Whites rapping back then. His music was so different.

I was 13 when this came out, as the lyrics state, Eminem singlehandedly made hip-hop music accessible to white suburban kids and was a big part of why the genre was so popular from 1999-2010.

A bunch of us heard this for the first time live, i can still feel the beginning permeating through my body as the auidio blasted through that arena, not knowing where it was going, you could literally feel your blood pressure raising in a good way the more the song progressed, then realizing what it was about you couldn't help but hang onto every word and soak in the truth, one of the dopest moments I've experienced
As someone (a white dude if that matters) born in 1990 who basically grew up with Em the lyrics for the time period were spot-on. He wasn't saying that black people could only sell half of what he could because they were less popular or anything like that, he was saying that 'white america' was desperate for someone saying what he was saying - and - because they (disaffected suburban white teens) could more-closely relate to him he blew up.

Y'all must be really young if y'all never heard this song before. This album is STILL the highest selling rap album of all time & hes trashing the government for trying to boycott him back in the day for his lyrics. They were trying to impede on his freedom of speech & tried suing him. But he won the lawsuit the government had against him, due to our 1st amendment right as Americans. We all have freedom of speech or expression... Y'all probably too young to remember everything that was going on when this album dropped. I was about 12 or 13 yrs old & EVERYONE had this album. The track "Square Dancin" goes hard on this album & it's political shots at the government too. He's always been anti-government... Another great classic is the "Stan" video. Y'all should do reactions on both those tracks. Plus in the "renegade" track, he's not using that word or term in the literal sense. "White America" is all about how the government turned white america against him at that point of his career for a while & he capitalized on that controversy/publicity.
