    I picked up the SE on an open box deal for $499. Immediately put it to work for Homecoming with 11 couples plus group shots. There was never a time I needed full power but it was great being about to move the light back and get the entire group. At the end of the day I still had just under half battery. I was torn between the 400 and the 600 SE, no regrets on my choice.
    Great light. Great video!

    So glad Flashpoint dropped this! I'm a manual 600 guy and really love the update. Never cared for TTL on studio strobes. Plan on replacing my 2nd 600 Manual with it along with my 200 Mark II's

    I had not heard all the details on this. Thank you.
    I bought the Adorama-exclusive 600 Pro Non-TTL two years ago in the November sale and it was an awesome bargain at only a few dollars more than the 600BM at the time. The only drawback was that I did not realize how much more the accessories would cost (1200 adapter, extension heads, etc) than the original versions. But still I got the faster recycle times, etc. for the price of a BM. I've taken care to charge the batteries every six weeks while I've been off for medical leave, but I did have the 400 pro battery go dormant on me after someone else used it and I forgot to charge it. I was able to recover it after hooking it up to a bench charger.

    the rachet stand handle is by far the best choice. prevents having to tighten with excessive force to clamp head with heavy modifier 👍👍

      I think the handle on the ad600pro was decent, but they messed with the handle on the ad400pro it was too small/light duty, it would always sag/slip on a large modifier

      @@godsakes the 600 is definitely better than the 400 since the washer is larger. But it’s still considered worse than the original 600 at locking its position.

    I have used annd loved the AD600BM since it came out. I have never once run out of battery on a shoot, and still havnt noticed any decline in overall battery capacity, quite incredible.
    I have never thought that the light needed any upgrades. Have never run into a problem on a shoot or in post, that an upgrade to light could fix.
    🤷‍♂️
    In fact, i actually like the origianl plate and bulb design which I know got a bit of flack.
    Hope they keep producing it, as I know one day my beloved 600 will die (maybe beyond repair) and I will have to upgrade 😔😔

    and your right Rob, I guess if your using a 600 at events, you may need TTL... but I can't see it being a feature needed on a light of this power. AD200 on the other hand, would be used all the time

    Thanks for the sum up! As an owner of 3 original AD600s, with one H1200 dual extension and an H600 extension, I'm curious if it would be worth selling the single AD600 w/H600 to get a more modern flash for everyday use. I'm just hyped that they still are using the original batteries! Means all 5 of mine still have some more life to them =)

    • @graxxor
      @graxxor 3 місяці тому

      Just have to ask yourself do you actually need the interface upgrades? I have never used or needed the on flash controls other than setting the channel.
      Does it bring anything to the table that you can value above the loss you’ll make on selling second hand and buying new.
      Then again, can you write off the tax?
      I usually sit down for five minutes and write a PRO/CON table out on a bit of paper.

      I had one battery that absolutely became a paperweight. I tried every method in the book and nothing. I had to buy a new battery from B&H. Totally sucks but I still use my 600Pro 400Pro and the little 200’s. Hey amazing results. But that incidence spooked me (pun intended). So I also invested in Profoto and that system hasn’t let me down yet.

    • @robhallphoto
      @robhallphoto  3 місяці тому +8

      You haven't missed much, I think this is the second or third video I've posted this year.
      I've been moving more into the video production space, which has involved learning a lot of new skills. On top of that we had another kid in February. Both have been incredibly time consuming, and I'm just not as interested in spending my free time working on videos. Lastly, I feel the photo space has been really stagnant in 2024 from an equipment perspective. Godox released the AD200 Pro II / 600 Pro II but both offer little change in terms of flash specs, so I feel there's no need to test / explain those products. Can be summed up in one sentence. Full color OLED screen, colored group indicators, bicolor modeling lamp. Sony's A9III and it's global shutter was ripe for discussion but that came when I was knee deep in newborn/moving when that was announced.
      So yeah, just a lot of other priorities in life this year!

    I think going back to the incremental slots for the head angle adjustment was a bad Idea. that is one of the most annoying things about the original not being able to have full control of your angle and smooth feeling adjustments as well. if you tighten down the washer version it holds fine.

    I have never understood why the color stable feature on the Pro versions is so needed. Its not as if the non Pro version bounced around in kelvin fluctuation from one pop to the next. There is only a fluctuation over different power settings.
    But if you are doing critical color work, its unlikely your changing power settings. Your also likely using color checkers in your workflow to fine tune the images. And any modifiers you use on your flashes is going to move the color temperature as well.
    And for really specific color work, your working to swatch color numbers inside photoshop to match to, and any mismatch is fine tuned here.
    Ive shot cars, food, clothes... and I've never had a retoucher come back to me and complain my colors or shots were inconsistent 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

    • @graxxor
      @graxxor 3 місяці тому

      Doesn’t the color stability mode half the fluctuation from ±200 down to 100?
      Some may find that helpful in multilight setups.

    • @godsakes
      @godsakes 3 місяці тому +1

      IMHO TTL on these sizes of flashes is nice to have but isn't especially useful, if you have the time to setup a light stand with this flash & softbox that implies you have some control of the situation and you would just meter or dial in as needed. TTL is for run & gun situations, better suited for flashguns stuff you can carry

      I can count the number of times I’ve needed TTL on one hand and still have all five fingers left over.
