Ehhhhhhhh, that video has been edited. Looked to me like the lynx broke the mink's back. (loss of function of rear legs) The video shown
afterwards of the mink running off was filmed just prior to the lynx
making it's appearance chasing down the mink. (note the background
      details)
I root for the mink, but sadly, I suspect it probably died of it's injuries.

  • @SaftonYT

It makes sense, really. Minks are tenacious, agile, and sleek-bodied. The cat was clearly having trouble getting a solid bite on it, especially since it was hanging just off its snout while clawing at its face.
When it's a question of food, any predator will give up a potential meal that looks to be more trouble than it's worth. The cat may very well have been able to "win" if it had kept at it, but would have expended so much energy struggling and sustained so many injuries (even if largely superficial, they add up in the wild) in the process that the sustenance it would have gotten from eating the mink wouldn't have been worth it. Everything is a risk-reward ratio in predation.

This is a show from the 80's, aired on German channel ProSieben or Pro7. People who do not know much about Minks (which are MOST people...some good examples are in this comment section), totally underestimate their defensive fighting skills, tenaciousness, and pound for pound superiority. All predatory animals in the wild hunt for prey that can be killed fairly easily without too much risk of injury to themselves. For a cat this size, taking on a mink might win him a meal, but cost him his life in the long run. The CAT WAS SMART ENOUGH to realize this before sustaining too much injury, and he backed off...regardless of WHETHER OR NOT YOU PEOPLE ARE SMART ENOUGH to ascertain the situation. And NO, it had nothing to do with any odor the mink used...it had to do with the cat having his face chewed off bit by bit! Oh, and as for some other footage of this cat actually winning the fight...produce the footage - either put up or shut up!

MrDenizen The mink's fur undoubtedly helped protect it from the bobcat's raking. If you look at the snow, there's no blood; minks and other weasel family creatures have thick, plush fur, sort of like an otter. It's so they can swim without freezing or sinking. It can also protect their skin, which is already pretty tough to begin with, since they hunt animals like muskrat, rats, and rabbits, who are known for their nasty bites. So that mink's biggest worry while it still had the strength to fight was being crushed by the cat's jaws, so it spun around like mad and bit the bobcat's face a lot. In the end, the cat probably decided the little psycho was too much punishment for not enough food! XD

Your intelligence is about equal to a house cat, so you at least have that going for you. But you are still quite the moron. Domestic cats are a nuisance animal and their population needs to be greatly thinned out in developed countries, that is a fact. The best thing we all can do is to trap them and humanely kill them. I do this quite frequently myself and it is very beneficial for the environment. I have trapped somewhere between 40 and 45 cats in the last 7 or 8 years in my backyard. I made a special airtight box that I put them in and I have a hose which I attach to the tailpipe of my car. It works very well, and I'm sure even you would agree that this is the best way to eliminate these nuisance animals so they will not destroy the native animals.

That is a Bobcat. Canada Lynx has shorter tail, less distinct spots, MUCH bigger ear tufts, leg length to the point of looking downright awkward, and the hind quarter difference compared to the front is not something easily missed.
That is an OBVIOUS bobcat. Not even close.
And to the other two arguing on here: yes, a bobcat is technically a type of lynx. Colloquially though, "lynx" refers to the Canada Lynx in North America, not to bobcat.

Before they cut to the edited clip of it running away - with clean fur despite being covered in snow from the tussle - you can see it lying there basically defenseless screeching at the cat. The cat backs off to avoid the teeth while it waits for the Mink to die....Sad but true....At 0:56 you can hear the spine break.
