Using the Minks to snuff out rats. Farming them for pest control rather than for their furs.. I like it.

It’s probably more like play time/dinner for the minks
YetAnother Human, well said good sir.
props to the dog for not getting overly excited and going after the mink, he's been trained well
That dog isn't careful out of fear of hurting the mink. Minks are bad asses and very brave. They will serve a dog.
You never mesh with mink. Whatever your size you is prey for mink
@@Em-jy1rq Yeah but on the other hand hunting, guarding or shepherd dogs are known to attack far stronger animals than minks (wolves, boars, badgers, humans...). An average hunting dog isnt scared of attacking a tougher animal than itself let alone a mink, my guess is it would probably attack it if it wasnt specifically trained to hunt with minks.
My guess is that the dog and mink were raised together and view each other as siblings.

@The Secular Atheist lol one bite and a mink would be dead
@The Secular Atheist lol idk why I read ur comment in the voice of the Flying Dutchman
At first I thought Jack Russell's would be better but then I figured Jack's would be harder to train not to kill the mink. That dog was the perfect backup.
I like that this dude actually did something educational with his venture. It's pretty sick, and goes a long way for people to understand that these animals are not pests, but an integral part of the ecosystem.
Your statement seems dichotomous

What is most impressive and fascinating to me is that both the mink and the dog seem to understand that they are part of a rat-killing team. When the mink has the rat, the dog lets the mink do her thing. When the mink scares the rat out from cover, the dog moves in for the kill and the mink stays back. I can only assume that these animals have trained and worked together in the past. A really neat example of inter-species collaboration -- not to mention the human handler-trapper's role in the exercise.

If only all people who kept people were as considerate!
Technically this mink is "kept", but I understand and agree. It's not easy to create a natural-esque lifestyle, especially when a pet's natural habits aren't clear b/c of breeding or because of popular opinion. For example, I have a corn snake and just try to feed your snake live mice without being judged and lectured on how frozen mice are better, safer, cheaper, etc. The pandemic forced us to go frozen, but I still think its imposing human mores on an animal. :/

@@BarbnGrill uhm no humans werent supposed to wear clothes at all
Yushiro Shihoin That’s true Yushiro, but we live in a fallen world, as I’m sure you know, and - the moment we fell - we lost our innocence, became aware of our nakedness and were ashamed. God himself slew an innocent animal so as to clothe us in animal skin... foreshadowing His plan to subsequently sacrifice His own, blameless Son in order to redeem us from our sinful ways. It was never His intention that animals suffer for our sake, but he chose to allow it, because He created us above the animals and gave us dominion over all Creation...
This is where the Animal Rights Movement becomes too extreme. It’s right to press for humane treatment of animals and to stamp out cruelty and neglect in its many forms, but since the fall, God has allowed us to eat meat, and to wear and utilise animal products. I wish it wasn’t so, and I’m sure that God wishes it wasn’t so either, but He loves us and places us above the rest of his Creation - showing His abiding and almost unfathomable love for us in that He asked His own Son to suffer and die for us, to redeem us eternally from our otherwise perpetual life of sin...
One day, very soon (judging by these appallingly immoral and degenerate “Last Days” that we have unquestionably entered...) Jesus will return and restore our world to its previous, harmonious state:
Isaiah 11:6-9 (NIV)
[6] The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling together;
and a little child will lead them.
[7] The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
[8] The infant will play near the hole of the cobra,
and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest.
[9] They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD
as the waters cover the sea.
That day cannot come soon enough..... 😢🙋🏻♂️

Its crazy how the dog doesn't mistake the mink for a rat when the scuffle is on going.
leethal956 smell prolly o.o
Dogs and minks are actually quite closely related, while cats are related to civets and mongooses. Rodents are their own game.
What you say is true, mustelids (mink & other 'weasels') and canids (dogs) belong to the caniform lineage of Carnivora (as do bears & oddly enough, seals and sea lions.)
Civets/genets, mongooses, hyenas and cats belong to the sister lineage of feliform Carnivorans.
And of course the rats belong to that great - that is, huge in number - lineage of placental mammals called the rodents, specifically the murid lineage (i.e. mouse-like rodents.)
Interestingly enough, we humans and our primate cousins are closer kin on the great family tree to the rodents than to many other mammal lines, including the aforementioned Carnivorans, but also the many four-legged herbivores like deer, rhinos, cattle.
That said, I'm not sure to what degree this matters to a hunting dog. Dogs rely on smell to track down quarry, but in the closing moments of an attack likely rely only (or mostly) on their sight to pinpoint the animals location. No doubt a mustelid smells quite a bit different than a rat, being known for their very strong scent glands.
Uh I think the dog has eyes, nose and a brain. Also the dog probably spent years bonding with the mink to know the difference between his friend and a rat.

We hardly give animals the credit they deserve when it comes to the smarts department. Joseph has trained the animals so well, he's a real Dr. Doolittle who talks to the animals.
I had NO idea that Mink were such prolific hunters!! What a deadly duo, that dog/mink combo is just what the doctor ordered!!
it's a member of the weasel family... All weasels from wolverines and badgers on down are prolific hunters.
Being someone who LOVES rats, and thinks they are some of the best pets ever....
They are also colossal pests and massive inconveniences to property and storage when left unchecked, and I LOVE that you're so good to the minks.
our kids had some great rats ,,, sooo inteligent but also a different breed from the wild black variety who will eat each other , we shoot with air rifles and soon as a rats down hes still warm n twitching the others are nibbling away, to see this i believe its better than any other means as its more natural too. i detest poisons
I LOVE RATS!! I had a hooded rat in my early 20's. He was so sweet, smart, and fun. I miss him so much. I won't have another one because I can't take the heartbreak of them not living more than a few years. I had a big rat pest problem here the past few months. I ordered a humane live trap and have caught, and released 4 so far. I take them to the landfill where they have lots of food and shelter. I try to drop them all in the same area so they can find each other again. I only have the one trap so had to do it one at a time. They were no where as big as these guys were. They were really cute too. If I didn't have dogs, cats, and kids I would have made one of them my pet. It was very docile. It did not want to leave the cage. It kept climbing back up to the back of the cage as I held it upside down to try and get it to fall out of the opening. It was so cute. I felt so bad. At least they have a chance to live out their lives without fear of someone snapping their necks in those kill traps.
I also prefer it if it is more natural. I won't kill them if I can help it, and try to not let my dogs get them if it can be helped. If they do have to die I would rather it be by my dogs than by poison or death traps. I use live traps to catch and release them.

@Peter sturm What makes you think you know better? You've got some high horse buddy. The people who name call are in actuality through some subconscious mechanism describing themselves--rooted in low self-esteem.
The dog is so well trained and they pair incredibly with the mink I absolutely love it. You have a SEAL team for hunting rats goddamn
this is more intense and interesting than game of thrones seasons 8
So true I couldn't look away!
Watching paint dry is more interesting than GoT!
Sadly true, but you didn't have to rub it in..
Dude, watching grass growth was more interesting than got season 8
I don´t know how I got here but this is the best thing I've seen in a long time
Arostegi Pro - vicious owl attacks on eagles, hunting wolf at night with MKlll 35 mm, the mink hunting rats. I wonder the same thing so I tracked it this time😂
Here's my path: Polar bear hunts seal > Seal hunts emperor penguin > antelope's sad destiny > wild dogs eating warthog > aaaaaand I'm here.
Arostegi 2am watching this lol
Hahaha same
Watch our Marvelous President not taking any crap from the left.
I love this method of dealing with rats. You rescure animals from abuse & bring them to a loving home. Then you use the hunters apect to deal with the rats in an effisiant way while not using any poisons or traps that could be harmful to other animals & wildlife.
What did I just watch ? Wow. I went from watching Cayote's and Badgers hunt together to a Mink & a dog ! Amazing how that animal came out of a kennel to instantly hunting rats like it knew what to do and where it was going. It didn't try to explore, escape or play. It went strait to hunting rats !!!!!
Dude! That mink is dope! That dog though how he can be so precise and not kill the mink in excitement!
Dogs r smarter then u think bud
Good training
Exactly, and we give cats all the credit in the world for "catlike" reflexes when dogs are just as good when it comes to that stuff.

Learn proper grammar and spelling. Speaking ghetto will get you nowhere in life
frank livingston how is he speaking ghetto?
The dog is like: "When the master don't see, I'll grab the rat from the mink and get the credit."

I'm amazed how this Mink don't get paid hourly... that's a lot of hard work.
It gets paid with food
hourly food* , if it weren't for the exercise this mink would be a chubster because of how healthy this guy looks
Such a happy lil mink
Doesnt get paid? Did you see that big piece of meat it was eating at the end!
Hey guys.. you all know I wasn't complaining right? It was a term just to express how I'm amazed by the Mink.. haha. It's like a troll comment but not really. I'm just acknowledging the hard work of the Mink cuz it's epic
Wow. It looks as though the mink evolved perfectly to hunt rodents like this.
Cat + stretch

That Mink just asked for my clothes, boots and motorcycle
Jesus, I remember stumbling upon this guy years ago when I was in college. Popped up in my feed again now years later and this dude is headed towards a million subscribers. Insane.
I had a pet mink back in the 1960s. It was pretty much unheard of then as well.
You have revived the ancient trade and craft of rat-catcher. A delightful video. Thank you.
This is Dwight Schrute if he had had a mink farm instead of a beet farm.
I’d like to think this is Mose.
More like Mose.

These dogs are so smart. They understand their owner completely.
Loved the Discipline SHOWN by Onsa! What a dog she is 😁
good on you man, saving those poor little minks from being slaughtered for their fur and giving them a happy life
I don’t know which one impressed me more, the mink or the dog, both are so smart and work well together, bad day to be a rat. Nice job on the training of both animals.
Minks are actually quite smart and easy to tame when young. They are good pets.
This guy is training almost adult minks and training them well. I guess since they know nothing but a cage their minds are ready for some input/stimulation.
Training it is.
I love how you went from a high schooler to a niche-driven professional
Easy loving lover 🎈
That mink is a BOSS
Nonsense who's holding it primate
Man, oh man. Those crittters make a great team. Thanks. Subscribed. That little mink is awesome, just adorable too!
That dog is so efficient. Doesn't waste energy running around aimlessly and doesn't shake the rats, just hard bites to kill. And this mink is like a missile.
