Stranger Things Style Monster in Blender 3D Fully Explained - Mind Flayer
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 січ 2021
- The Mind Flayer is crazy. I modeled, rigged, shaded, lit, rendered, simulated fluid, and comped from the default cube in Blender and Houdini. I've bridged the gap between Blender and Houdini as well. It's awesome, take a look.

(Character rig blender file doesn't include the Houdini splashing alembic because it's like 30 GB) I'm including the hiplc file though so you can cache it yourself. I will be creating a new everything tier soon, but if you get in now for like 2 dollars, you'll be in for as long as you stay. I'm cool like that :)

Yes, deleting default cube and adding it again.
Good to see you still follow the rules.
Hahahaha!!! Yes!!! 😀
The sacred tradition
What I prefer to do is I delete the default cube, but then I add a plane. And then I extrude it + g + z + mouse up.
@@KevBinge that cube will take it's revenge on you someday,,
@@KevBinge nice
Very impressive for the time invested. Nice stuff!
Thanks Dan!! It’s my thing lol! Low free time, decent output haha.
JUM🅱️O
Well he is a professional, the title made it seem like it was his first time
Wow Daniel krafft
lol
I spent eight hours trying to create a donut :(
Lol!! I did too years ago.
Don't worry, you'll get there! It takes practice, but I hope you get better at modeling!
Yeah, this isn't really eight hours. He has 20 years of experience actually. He was being rather disingenuous in titling the video that. You can produce results like these with a couple months of training I'd say. If I made this video I would've called it "Making a 3D monster in 8 hours." but I admit it probably wouldn't get as many clicks. There is a "I just learned 3D!" thing people like to do when uploading 3D art. To add "spice" to it and to lower expectations. It's a creative integrity flaw for any artist to work in such a way. I would recommend moving away from this mans content and find someone a bit more... genuine. To learn and follow from.
Nah, just scale it down a bit and it shouldn’t lag.
@@KevBinge feeling the blender guru nostalgia
I could easily follow that until the part where you have to re add the cube.
🤣🤟🤣
I can’t believe you did all of that in 7 hours, holy moly.
More toward the 8 hour mark minus some insane sim times and render times before I’d optimized things and learned the flow. Thanks!
He didn't, it took him twenty years. He had already mastered this software for twenty years before making this. The title is a lie.
This title isn't a lie, but this unprovoked attack by Noah Ford on multiple fronts is alarming.
He knows.
@@KevBinge He's not wrong tho
**Spends 8 hours and forgets to save**
Blender: how about we teach him a lesson
Lol! We’ve all been there... too many times 🤣
I always save when I create a new project, even if I accidently create a new one, because thats what you tend to do when you put 16 hours of work into a project only to run out of ram and crash :|
Sounds like software that doesn't respect your work. No autosave and auto-backups, and recovery in case of crash?
@@isitanos there is. People are too stupid to set it up properly
“The video would be longer than the pandemic” We felt that.
We all did unfortunately 🙁

@@ossiehalvorson7702 sure blame the people, especially when at the beginning who and Fauci said masks weren't required, banning flights from China was xenophobic, and still had business and lockdown mandates that people did follow.
This is one of the best tutorials I've seen! It's in-depth, but still fairly quick and without any useless details, and, most importantly, really fun to watch!! Great job! Also, last but not least...amazing result, for 7 hours! :D
Thanks Matteo! That is very encouraging!
For just 7 hours, this is an absolutely amazing work. Imagine you spending weeks into this!
Thanks! I worked very quickly on this, and it was closer to 8 minus the render and sim baking time. It was a great test to see how fast I could go while still getting something “passable.” It would be way better with a small team of specialists too. The work I do on teams always comes out better 😀
@@KevBinge it's indeed inspiring!
Thank you!!
Man, couldn’t work out who this guy that I subscribed to was for a sec. After hearing the voice, I instantly knew that the legend had returned.
Haha! It was a gamble but I had to do it lol. I love Blender and will always use it, but need to expand. 😀. Thanks!!
That's some quality work right there. Really proud of the blender community who go out of their way to help beginners.

Wow, nice new logo and name and monster. I hope your channel grows after this!
I hope so too! Thanks!!

@@animationspace8550 oh
Okay
Likely won't, he has 20 years of doing it with no such thing happening. The title might say 8 hours in 3D, but he actually had mastered the software beforehand.
Please keep doing this type of tutorial/walkthrough vids! It's really detailed and I learned a lot. I'll be sending people to your channel whenever they ask me for reference!
Good Job !!
Thanks Hardus!! I’ll most likely be doing this type of video going forward. Welcome to the channel! 😀
This is awesome. The davinci resolve stuff especially at 21:26 was pure GOLD ... thank you !
Thanks Dirk, and you’re welcome. I like Resolve 😀
Love it so clean. Reflections are everything.

Totally worth the wait Kev, We need more stuff from you now XD
Thanks for putting this out, and also Love the new name Kev Binge XD
Thanks!!! More will be coming... more and better 😀
Thanks for the mention. Very cool to see what you are up to now. Love that you are creating videos like these as well!
Woah! I mentioned you because you really schooled me in 2002 at a DV Expo in NYC. That was a great show and you really spent time with people and helped. It feels like ages ago but it’s stuck with me. I’ve been doing this professionally since then haha. In 2 hours you lifted my Sub D workflow and I’ve used it everywhere since... Lightwave, XSI, Maya, Houdini, Blender.. many industries...hahaha! That was also the show that a bunch of us sat in with Don Bluth and Gary Goldman for hours. Good times!
I’m glad to see you still creating and on new platforms as well. We all used to be on CGTalk but that’s a shell of what it once was. Your videos are great and it’s good to see your progress too! Thanks again!
@@KevBinge I love doing shows and meeting new artists. Glad we got to reconnect. I'll be watching for new work from you and hope to stay in touch. If you're on linkedin reach out and connect with me!
Thanks William! I need to re-establish myself on LinkedIn. I’ll definitely send you a request. Great to reconnect as well, and I’m happy to see that you’re still cool as ever!
You guys chilled with Don Bluth? Holy crap, I am in the presence of greatness.

Thanks Axai! Welcome to the channel and to 3D!
Oooo fancy new logo, very nice! That final animation looks really good! It's making me want to get into character creation and rigging now!

That was actually in the video, which was awesome. I moved it to that part to keep that in there as a light-blinking effect.
I just recently (last night) found your UA-cam channel and commented on one of your videos that I loved your content and was probably going to join your Patreon. Just here to say I joined, and I’m already glad I did. Keep up the amazing and very helpful work!

And I bunked all the blender classes
Lol. I bunked typing.
Mate, you are one talented individual who can also teach. The way you explain very complex tools in quick understandable layman's language is golden. Also... what a way to cover all parts of the spectrum going from open source free app Blender to large production house tools like Houdini and DaVinci... good to see Blender users really using "other" applications!
Thanks Gichanasa! It’s been my experience to use many different apps in production and in the physical classroom. I loved teaching almost as much as I love production, but teaching gives back, and production, well... I guess I get to make cool stuff lol 😀
@@KevBinge Kudos to you for bridging the commercial and academic world. We need more people like you!

Thanks Gareth!! It’s the beginning of believable, but the workflow suits me up to that point 😀
