ESP is a double edged sword. How do I feel about it? Off... turn it off. You are far better off practicing and mastering your aim without ESP than with it and I'll try elaborate as well as he explained the mechanic. ESP essentially tells the game to lower your mouse sensitivity when your cursor is within a certain range of your target. It "magnetizes" to it. It might sound nice but without practice this is just going to really throw off your handling. You will naturally become more precise over time and when you do you will have to come back and adjust this ESP to match. You only have so much space on the mousepad and the last thing you want is an inconsistent relationship between the movement of your hand how much that moves your cursor. You are far better off, in my opinion, practicing and getting used to aiming without it than with it. The most important thing is finding the overall mouse sensitively that you are comfortable with. If the sensitivity is slower then you'll want to be comfortably your arm. If the sensitivity is faster then you'll want to be comfortable making adjustments with your fingers. Neither is superior. But consistency is king. Oh but if you're using a joystick then go for it.
Stuff like this is what Vanduul swarm is useful for, to dial it in. You can just focus on aim and pause when you want to make an adjustment. Basically it's a similar process to adjusting your mouse sensitivity in FPS games. Once you have something that feels pretty good, just leave it at that setting and keep playing with it to develop the muscle memory. Don't go back and forth trying to dial it in every session. Also he said you want to keep the settings as low as possible because to much sensitivity or too big a ring slows the pip down as you approach your aiming point. If the settings are too high you have to make a big adjustment to pull on target and it both slows down how fast you can shoot and might make you jerk and be inaccurate. Ideally you want the settings as close to 1:1 as you can get them and still get some benefit from the sensitivity.
Arena Commander is such an under-appreciated utility for ship flying practice and control binding tests. Even if you're a mouse & keyboard purists there are settings you want to drill down and AC is the best place to get that done. More complicated set ups, such as dual sticks and pedals will of course require practice anyway as well as setting changes to allow you to feel more responsive. You can't hit a target if you can't keep them in view. The ESP Off/On toggle is pretty mandatory for space combat sessions, I don't know why it's not more popular or well known. I do know people who turn it off and keep it off as they're away of their flight inputs. I don't know if they're crazy or just crazy good.
As soon as he starts talking, you talk over him. Then "let's rewind, this is important". As soon as he starts talking, you talk over him :) I'm going to have to pull up the original video next to this so I can watch the sections without interruption Looks like a great concept to understand and dial in though
Mouse is better for tracking pips, HOSAS is better for all other flight and positioning. The best blend is HOSAM with the weird virtual joystick thing off, just normal FPS input. I forget if that's relative input on or off, but the one without the janky line between heading and mouse position.
My biggest problem with this mechanic is how it slows down when coming into the target. I want to get on target as fast as possible and THEN have this assist help me better control staying there!
Grrrrrrrr…. Dammit…. To hell with aim… can’t maneuver anymore. By the time you get into attack position you’ve taken 2/3 of your ship health worth of damage.
You should reverse. Or Roll and Pitch more, those are the two fastest methods of changing directions quickly. Don't forget your lateral and vertical thrusters can also make a difference. Yaw is a waste of time for most reasons as it's just too slow in most ships. Personally I like practicing on the solo free flight broken moon map and just spinning my ship around one of the platforms, the more stable I can spin around and still maintain the same distance the more I know I'm improving. Once you can spin an arrow around the sphere section without crashing is when you can start mixing it up with barrel roll reverse spins and the like. The patterns you can make with experience is weird! Combat speed is key, not too fast but fast enough to be able to evade and counter their actions so you maintain your target of their top or bottom of their ship. Seeing their ship side or face on is going to be pointless as the profile is too small. Pretend your fighting a space pizza, you want to maintain being on top or underneath to see more of the landscape so you can hit it. This requires your nose to be pointing up or down to the ship and moving lateral, vertically, forward and reverse to maintain that profile view. If you can fly with a second or third person you will easily understand the ship flight mechanics of what is going on, especially in ship combat. It can also be a purely defensive measure in an under-armed ship. You can call friends to assist, or wait till they get bored. In the Universe, even appearing to be competent in these manoeuvres can see people leave relatively quickly. Some people leave, those that didn't want a fight anyway.

The way i always look at it is HOSAS has superior advantage of movement control therefore it is superior at controlling the fight . Mouse and keyboard has superior guns on pip accuracy. That is it's advantage . And HOTAS gives up the advantage of both . HOTAS fans will argue this and say they have a thumb analogue or something like that which gives them the same true 6 degrees of analog as well . Which it does give the same 6 degrees but only as accurate as say a controller . Even the keyboard could argue it has 6 degree of movement but that doesn't mean it has the same level of control . The HOTAS set up gives up the guns on pip advantage of mouse and gives up the full range of flight control of the HOSAS. I think anyone can be top tier with any set up if they use it enough but that's just the way it is regardless .
