Some hill climbing tips I did not see them employ: 1. Don't go straight up, go up it diagonally, and cut back when you reach one side and go diagonally the other direction. This effectively reduces the slope of the hill during most of the climb. 2. When you are cutting back to change your diagonal, that is the most difficult part because you are getting the full effect of the slope, so bend both of your knees at this point to lower your center of gravity, which will help the board for the hardest part. 3. You'll need to raise your center of gravity again before you have to cut back the other way so that you can lower it again. So during each diagonal, straighten your knees a little to raise you center of gravity back up. Be careful and don't do this too fast because raising your center of gravity forces the motor to have to work harder. These tips are increasingly more difficult to do the greater the slope, and sometimes some hills just aren't wide enough. For these, the shown technique is your best bet, which is try to be as even with the board as possible, and avoid hitting any bumps. Anything that requires the motor to surge will likely result in the front contacting the ground, which is much closer to the front of the board just because of the geometry of the slope itself. Thus bringing us to the final tip, sometimes, you just need to get off the board, change it to an elevated front riding profile, and then send it leading up to the hill.
Are you saying to bend your knees through the carve/switching from one diagonal to the next? I feel like that’s the moment when I want to unweight, allowing the motor to pivot under less than the stress of my full body weight. Or am I reading that wrong?

Hoping we get that custom ride mode soon, and maybe an even more powerful ride profile that competes with what we've seen with VESC setups. 🤙🏼

You can make all the videos you want talking up the GT. I own a GT and at 230lbs I can't even ride in grass if it's not perfectly flat. The board is more powerful than a XR but not life changing amounts of power.
idk i've had the opposite experience. i'm a bit lighter now but still probably around 240 when fully geared up. i have a pint X and previously owned an XR and also a OG pint. the GT is considerably more powerful than any board OW offers and it's not even close.
@j_TC The Sat Stacking Channel I'm not saying it's not more powerful but it's still not enough for a 230lbs person to go up anything near as steep as this video
@@MikeDIY love that video. I’m actually very familiar with that. However I think you misunderstand that the GT is already giving max torque. There can’t be a turbo mode that gives you more power. Elevated/Apex will help but comparing to vesc is just unfair. I met a local lad at a group ride and he had a vesc XR. That thing CHUGGED uphill because it was running like 84v. The GT runs 72v peak so it’s simply not gonna be as powerful. Let’s be honest. Can make the maximum torque available to the motor base on the thermal headroom?
Would love to see this again with the GT S!
Came for the “warranty voided” comments... 😂
Jk, kinda, this was a pretty fun. Wouldn’t you have fared even better snaking your way up, or was the point of the test just to see what it could handle when pointed straight up the fall line?
Really nice example of what the Onewheel GT can currently tackle - if you are light enough! I still feel like it has even more locked up potential that we haven't seen yet... Hoping we get that custom ride mode soon, and maybe an even more powerful ride profile that competes with what we've seen with VESC setups. 🤙🏼
🤞
Haters will say it's fake.
In all seriousness though... wtf are these hills. How are there even roads on those things!
Maybe it's time for some gnarly uphill sections on RFTR 👀
Still looking awesome
Have the issues been sorted out (ghosting mainly)
And are there any service centers in Montreal Canada.
Thanks
Any plans to make sure stance footpads for GT?
This is more a testament to your lack of riding skill than to the GT’s lack of power.
I'd love a digital shaping mode that allowed steeper hill climbs for us larger individuals.
Elevated mode
@@Tactical_Taco Elevated Plus (w/ more torque). So it could compete with a Vesc XR here ua-cam.com/video/Db_Pgr9IRMM/v-deo.html
FM needs to to make a new flagship design several years down the road, they are saving the extra power/features that VESC offers for future models.
@@Tactical_Taco In the comments of that vid they say it's a stock XR battery, which makes me think it's the ESC limiting the current. If that's the case, FM could do it. Madd Max's channel also said they're releasing a Climb 2.0 vid Today. So that'll be interesting to see.
@@Tactical_Taco They improved pushback limits with their last release, so it'll be interesting to see. With advances in ESC software updates you can get real efficiency boosts. For example, I updated my drone's ESCs firmware and got a 50% improvement in flight time, all in software.
I think a lot of factors went into his excess going up those hills. Weight, experience, and knowledge of the Onewheel. I don’t think just anyone could have gone on up the hill.
Wonder how a vesc/xR board would handle same hill? 😅
0:23 wait a minute, that's not a 31.50% incline for sure. That's almost 45° which is 100 % gradient.
Is those hill can be took downward with the onewheel?
Lol looks like Lazor is conducting an orchestra and he’s waiting for a very long dramatic pause to end
Any chance of seeing them go down those hills?
no. b/c the board won't tip back far enough to stop! but i'd LOVE for FM to show *that* in one of these what-not-to-do/how-to-void-the-warranty/do-as-i-say-not-as-i-do videos.
that being said, i LOVE my XR. i can unplug the battery, plug it back in, and NOT need to send it to them for service!
@@dobrzpe have you used the warranty on your XR yet?
@@PlanetOwner nope, haven't needed to. most anything i'd need to do, i could do myself from parts off the secondary market. the XR is pretty robust. just wish it had the power/range of the GT. glad i got the XR thou.
@@dobrzpe thankfully I haven't had any problems with my GT it is my first onewheel so I was wondering what their previous models were like. Glad to hear the XR is treating you well so far👍
U guys should have tested all of your current models. Pint vs Pint X vs XR vs GT
Curious which rider mode the GT was in for these tests? Does anyone know?
I know something for sure... My GT does AVOID boredom 😁😁… Let’s gooooo 💨💨💨
Fix the Ghosting issue. And stop acting like it's fixed or not an issue. It's happened to me after updating and with a new pad. It broke my love hump. These people are pissing me off. My board ghosted into my garage wall, barely missing my wife and my mkiv supra. So I contacted them. So they sent me another foot pad and on the second ride I quick stop as I've done for 2k miles on other boards and it jets off into another dam wall busting the rear love hump and scratching the board all up. I was beyond mad, frustrated and upset. I contacted them again, and the first thing they said is, did you update the firmware? I said yes, and the pads were clean, and I was on the road. They basically stopped emailing after that. It's kind of a big fu to me. This is the first onewheel I don't trust or feel safe on around others and my property. If it hits my wife or one of my cars, I will be seeking legal actions.
If I do that, will it void my warranty ?
"Never ride your Onewheel GT on inclines or declines with grades steeper than 15%. This may cause the motor and battery to overheat and will also void your warranty." -OneWheel GT manual. These FM marketing guys in the comments will try to gaslight you into believing the manual doesn't say what it says.
Awesome!! Loving my gt!
It's really pitiful that there are some legit questions being asked here and all of them being ignored. You also were given a few different responses to your "conversation with Kyle" and we haven't heard the answers to those either.
This community is gonna be going vesc in droves here pretty soon.
*also, the videos that this is "responding to" had all the wheels going from a dead stop.
100%
This is steeper than I found but still had a good challenge in Duluth, MN!
Like the GT, Jack's no slouch on those hills!
Hill climbing, not Jack's strong suit...
@@Onewheel Lol, he did the Run of Shame
He tore up that hill on foot pretty good.
I should run more, lol.
Could go even steeper if you break the hill by carving
warranty voided, no steep incline remember as per manual.
Looks sick🔥
This is so hypocritical, in the owners manual it specifically says not to go to a certain incline , except future motion only cares about market sales and advertising, it’s a scam
at 6'4" 235lbs, my GT SCREAMS on hills... but the going down sides. She gives it the ol' college try on the goings ups sides and I appreciate that.
On the downhills have you experienced the board giving out because of either speed or the decline pitch? Like the wheel going into neutral and sliding out from under you?
No. I’m like 3 weeks into owning riding a OW. I’m very slow going down hill because trust me, that is a fear I have.
I think it’s just your experience man. You will get better. The gt can certainly handle 235
You should do this again with the GT S!
Make the GT as good as a vesc.
can you guys teach us how to properly clean our board?
i love my XR. i just want FM to do better as a company. why make a video about what NOT to do? (going up this steep of a hill will 'void your warranty'.) why not show going DOWN the hills? (the board won't tip back far enough to stop.) how about unplugging the battery and plugging it back in? (oh, that's right - *WE* would have to send it back to get unlocked...)
all the community wants, is for you to do better. we love your products. it's not to late to be a good company again. (but it's getting close...)
Recently made mine go up a 46.6 % grade! Blown away.
I got the rally and it goes up green runs, but it cant go up blue runs. The pavement is great for the one wheel compared to a mountain
40 degree angle roads should be illigal lmao
Had an original shipping date of June 1st. But I received my GT on the 20th and on that same day , I broke my foot trying to lug it home on my Meepo mini 2 ER. Completely rolled my foot inward. Now I have to wait 4-6 weeks while on crutches 🩼, to even hop on the Magnificent GT 😭😭😭🥺
Nice uphill with the GT. Were ya'll using Elevated mode? @Onewheel
I believe all of these were completed on Highline
Talk about the #OneWheelAbuse 🤣 but that's some incredible power!! Loving my GT! You guys really knocked it out of the park!
impressive for sure, but i'd really be worried about that thing bombing down the road once you loose it
Please redo this video with the S. Everybody would love to see how it compares.
My Pint cried watching this.
Great video! Ignore all of these melvins in the comments 😂
We need a Onewheel GT with replaceable battery, so for on the go. Like the mellow Board.
my gt delivery date got pushed back another 10 days!
See you dudes this Saturday in Austin. I'll be the cool dude coming in hot 🔥 on my XR. 🤙
37% 🤯 - need a Onewheel Jack Edition though.
Despite all the bad press, this shit is fucking impressive!
Just hit 1200 Miles on my XR, can't wait to share the GT stoke with the world and those I love!
Try with XR now! 🤩
Is the error 6 how that father died a few months ago riding his one wheel?
Congratulations, by going up those hills you have voided your warranty
It's a shame they all voided their warranties to make this video. I hope they make enough from this video to buy extras lol
Hey Fred - you're likely referring to the warning in the manual "Riding hills exceeding a 15% grade is extremely dangerous and may result in loss of control or damage to your Onewheel" that's a really important warning and heads up for folks who are learning the capabilities of the board as well as understanding their own skills and abilities as a rider. Obviously we are aware of regenerative breaking, the limits of the board and our own skill level while riding. No warranty voiding took place during the filming of this video. Hope you have an excellent day out there brother!
@@Onewheel That's great to know that it doesn't void the warranty! I think folks are probably just confused since page 64 of the GT Manual states,
"WARNING: Never ride your Onewheel GT on inclines or declines with grades steeper than 15%. This may cause the motor and battery to overheat and will also void your warranty."
It's rad to see that torque beast crush those hills!
Lol, knew someone was gonna do it.
@@Onewheel Thank you for reaching out to correct my understanding. If this is the case, it would be good to adjust the wording in the manual to make this more clear to onewheel owners. Thank you.
@@Onewheel Nope, he's referring to this line: "Never ride your Onewheel GT on inclines or declines with grades steeper than 15%. This may cause the motor and battery to overheat and will also void your warranty." It guarantees voiding of warranty regardless of skill level. I'll never buy another FM device. You guys are sleazy.
thats sick!
What about going down them hills and abel to stop?
So, does it have regenerative braking so you can recharge on the way back down?
Shoot. I'd like to see that...!!!
thanks for the cool video, small note angles are measured in degrees
You would have made it up the first hill if you weren’t riding on a trash tire made out of a hard compound with no grip.
Music and video on point. Great Job Team Onewheel
Thanks dawg
ADAM!!!
If you carved up in a big snake pattern you’d make these way easier
The power uphill is amazing. Love my GT, over 800mi so far. Great video. Can you safely ride down the hill? I think it would tail drag down and possibly not be able to slow down or stop. I get your intent was to show the amazing GT power but once you get to the top of the hill you need to go down it. I know there is a "Elevated" mode to help with hill climbing. Should there be a "Dropped" mode for going down steep hills. Also didn't notice what mode you were in, can you clarify.
Vesc will kill all these hills
