In today’s video I walk around my discovery and go through each modification I’ve added. Hope you enjoyed! Follow my Instagram for daily posts @disco2_overland
I have a black 99 discovery with a lift kit and kitted out with off roading gear just like yours!! Your truck is awesome!! I’m in the PA area and I take it off roading all the time. Love all 3 of my rovers! Nice to see someone else who appreciates these old boys like I do!
Just starting work on a stock 1997 Disco 1 in preparation for Overland trips across NZ, got a few things to get up to scratch, a small patch of rust near alpine window, fix drivers seat, engine idle hunting when warmed up and then shuts off when idle goes low, needs a new starter motor, new brakes rotors. Otherwise it's in pretty good condition, going to spend the next few months working on it fixing the issues.
Nice rig! I have an 03 disco pretty much looks like yours without the lift. I'm having issues with one of the catalític converters so that needs to be fixed before I invest in a lift. Thanks for the upload.
Nice looking truck, i have an 02 Nissan Xterra but ive been interested in a disco 1 or an lr3 for a while now as a Second Vehicle, i live in Rosarito a small beach town about 30 minutes south of San Diego so i usually go south for surf and camping trips, ive never seen a disco on the trails, it would be very fun to get one dirty down here..
Coils are sealed; I’d replace your plugs/wires if you haven’t yet. I like the direction you are going. I’ve had my 04 since 06 and it’s definitely a relationship. Don’t apologize for your vids. And honestly no one really cares about how fast or slow our trucks are on the trail. It’s all about gear reduction. 😁
Wet o2 sensors can throw mad codes. silicone tape (rescue tape) over all the connectors if you plan to go into deep water. I have had 10 p38a, (currently have 4) a disco 1 and now a 99 disco 2 as well. Currently have a built p38 with a gasket failure, which prompted me to now build my disco2 until a new h.g. is in the budget. nice build, must have cost you around 20k all in. Good Times
The SE7's can't have the storage boxes on both sides- just so you know- the rear A/C "contraption" takes up the entire drivers side- and honestly doesn't do much for the interior comfort in my opinion. I have it- never use it. Was going to remove the whole unit and put in the drivers side storage- but it's such a bear of a job and so much has to come out it was easier to just build my own side cubby with a lid on that side incorporated into my "shelf" in back. The storage far outweighs the rear A/C unit temp controls...
265 tires won’t make the vehicle more capable, if anything they’ll reduce the vehicles ability. You would be better off with the 16” rims (more tire side wall so you can deflate them down further and create a longer tread surface) and running standard size tires I.e. 235/70R16 or if want a taller tire 235/85R16 or 245/75R16. Wider tires just hit more obstructions, and when they break through the ground surface and sink down they need to push more mud / snow / sand away to progress forward making it more difficult, also creates more drag on the road, adds additional wear and tear to mechanical components, and cost more. Check out all the Camel Trophy vehicles or military vehicles they run standard size or close to it ! Anyway pretty go vehicle otherwise, and enjoy your overland travels.
Nice truck. I have 2000 disc rig. So I bought the led lights from headlight expert. So the original boot doesn’t fit anymore so do you problems with water getting in there easier? Plus have you had any problems with the little fan from all the dirt that’s gets in that area. I imagine it won’t last long.
Clean disco! I had an issue with mine and the heater wasn’t blowing hot I realized the heater core hoses were backwards and corrected it and now have heat! I noticed yours are backwards aswell easy fix tho!
wait so did you swap a whole different center diff in, or just grab lever off an 04 and install it? I know my 01 has a center locking diff, just no way to engage it.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Great setup. Nice looking Disco too. What 'rock sliders', 'rear bumper' and 'snorkel' are you using/ where did you source them if you don't mind me asking? I'm looking for sliders and a rear bumper for my 02' Disco right now. I'm not on Instagram much at all, but when I am I'll definitely follow.
Hey man thanks for watching and commenting. The rock sliders and snorkel are from lucky 8. I think I got my rear bumper from rimmer bros or Atlantic British. All great products and companies to get parts from
I prefer 99-02 with the 4.0 Bosch engine as I find they have less issues in terms of slipping a sleeve like the 03-04 4.6 engines do. Also kinda depends which headlights you like better all preference. All the years are pretty much the same. 04 has cdl from factory but all I did was put the cdl from an 04 in my 99 so not a big deal. Follow on Instagram @disco2_overland for daily posts!
Cool video my friend. Just a heads up for safety the jack on the your Steel bumper Can be very dangerous , they have been known for going threw windshields in collisions and taking life’s with them. Safe travels my friend
Extra pulleys and a belt is key. Ask me how I know. Grenaded one just a few weeks back in the middle of Washington state. Nobody carries them out in the boonies.
One thing I hate at the start of many videos is “What’s up guys”. Come up with a better expression e.g. “Welcome to my presentation”. Anything but WUG!. Who is going to answer if anything is ‘up’. Seriously! Now I will watch the session. Lol.
Thanks for posting the video - nice rig! Noticed your flag is backwards though. In keeping with US flag code, your star field should be on the right (forward in the direction of travel) for your passenger side and on the left (forward in the direction of travel) for your drivers side. I realize most people don't care, but for those of us in uniform, we get overly sensitive... haha. So forgive me for that. That's why you'll see both options available on Amazon/eBay, etc.
Bro I’ve had three of these vehicles and the terra firma lift kit is great but you need to get you some black steel 16x8Land Rover rims.. Put u some 31 1050 on it
Im asking the Land Rover community howI can unbolt the lug nut in the center of my Land Rover discovery 2004 I I got all of them out except for the centre one!! PLEASE HELP
Hello Mike. Great job on building this beautiful rig! My '01 is about to look very similar. I have a couple of questions. 1/ Where did you get your headliner from? 2/ I have the same ARB bumper but mine doesn't have a whole/slot for a winch. Did you make room for it or it came like this? Thank you in advance. I've been following your IG for a while :)
@@disco2overland458 I’ve owned a D2 for 10 years and wheeled it all over the mountain west, I know what works and what doesn’t. And wheel spacers don’t do a damn thing other than ‘look cool’
@@disco2overland458 The wheel spacers are a bad idea. I understand you needed them because of rubbing. get a 16 inch rim the right tire size and do away with the spacers. One thing they do is move the weight of the wheel away from being over the center of the wheel bearings, this causes a lot of stress to the bearing and over time will cause issues. I have a 94 range rover, i use steel nato wheels and 245/75/R16 they do not rub they are a better tire size for your rig, larger tire diameter will affect performance and fuel economy. You can have cool and heavy duty reliability at the same time. focus on the running gear, it's what gets you home.
1:52 Yeah and they make sure any oncoming traffic can't see a fucking thing when you come by. Stop putting ultrabright LED headlights on cars. They are making the road unsafe and they don't actually provide the driver any appreciable benefit.
Well the D2 probably tired of you calling D2.a truck as many people do its a sport utility vehicle not a truck sir sounds like slipped cylinder sleeve it beginning to happen or a misfire its a land rover it could be anything 😮

Replace your crankshaft position sensor if you haven’t already.
Mikey, ditch that radio and put the stock one back in. Then pick up a GROM bt3 Bluetooth adapter. It’s the cleanest setup for a Bluetooth retrofit.
Do you have a model number ?

Gave me some ideas to add to my '04 Disco :)
Nice rig Brother
Really clean and good looking Disco, I have '01 TD5 :)
Nice rig, I'm running the same suspension setup and tire size...that rear light bar tho..
I’m a Jeep guy, but this is a seriously great rig. Well thought out. Cheers to you Sir.
Thanks!

Love the Disco. Did you use medium or heavy duty springs, and are you happy with your choice?
Everything is great 👍
Nice rig bro! Go for a Joying head unit. They fit perfect
Great Rig! What's the diameter of your front PIAA lights on the bumper? I have an ARB bumper too and I'm looking to get similar lights...
Hey I appreciate it! Not sure the exact diameter but they are the 520 series. Follow my Instagram @disco2_overland for daily posts!

What mounts did you use on the awning?

Disco 2 one of my favourite
I run a joying 7" single din in my disco. Fits pretty well and the octacore 64gb+ 4gb ram works pretty well.

Which size of tyres are on truck...
Make a video on the beach or trail, no music plse

Did you change out your headliner? It looks painted.
Yeah it’s new black headliner fabric no paint
Would you reccomend the ARB front bumper?
No
Why not Matt H?
@@christophermeyers1 too soft so they're prone to bending and twisting, bad approach angle compared to other options, heavy, overpriced
Looks like a good rig though bro... how’s your you joints been?

Hey bud, are you running the medium duty or heavy duty terrafirma lift??
Medium duty but HD springs in the front. Will eventually change to HD or something that doesn’t sag with weight in the trunk
I have a 2002 model just like yours
I added a ipad mini for my Disco 2 stereo.
