Thats like driving 9,900 miles a year...wish I could drive my car like that, I average 25,000 + miles a year...I got a 2015 Civic Si Coupe back in September 2019 at 32,000 miles...as of today 26 October 2024 Im at 143,000 miles 😅
Honda deserves a lot of praise for making HVAC all-physical buttons for the 11th gen because we live in an era when the latest competitors from Subaru, VW, and Kia are basically repeating the mistakes Honda made for the 2014-2021 Civics. Copying Mazda is a much better route than copying VW, Subaru, or Kia, and when it comes to other segments: Hyundai, Nissan, Ford, GM
All the hate for the L15B engine simply isn’t true. Fuel dilution only happens in extremely cold environments. It’s still one of the most reliable engines out there
I bought a 9th Gen Civic Si Coupe 2015 model after my 2010 RX-8 got into an accident, it was still running great at 110,000 miles but the cost to repair the body damage is high so insurance totalled it 😢. But the 2015 Civic Si is a pretty good fun daily driver 205 HP and 174lb ft TQ ain to shabby on a car weighing like less than 3,000 lbs I got it back in September 2019 at 32,000 miles...today as of 26 October 2024 I am at 143,000 miles 😉
Hell yeah man. I got myself a 13' Civic Si, thing runs like a dream and loves to stay in the high rpms. It's got robust reliability, some great power, and it's a fun daily. thinking of getting an 8th gen si so I can keep my 9th as a dd.
Your so under rated man! You need to blow up these commentaries are so on point and aware😂😂 Your not a Honda fan who’s in denial and I love it, makes you more legit than those guys who are die hard Honda fans
Awesome video, I don’t think the 2016+ civics are that bad though cause I know some friends that have 150k+ miles on theirs with no complaints about the interior or AC so far🤞
THANK YOU for covering the refresh models for the 6th gen! Got my first car exactly one year ago from today; a 1999 Civic Dx hatch with 125,000 miles! I’m a Honda Fanboy now 😂🩶
a whole 60 minutes of Acura Advice on my absolute FAVORITE platform? YES PLEASE! I have owned 2 4th gens, a 5th gen and 2 6th gens. Stoked to watch this.
6:11: Because Tin doesn't rust..lmfao 10:37: 'Slide so fast your carburated engine coughs out a lean misfire..' I love this humour! 4th Gen is my favorite generation! Living in Europe I noticed US/Canada have a significant departure of the European design from the 7th gen. (2001) You got the 7th hatch much later while we had it at introduction as well as almost all of the Type R gens. Our 8th and 9th gens were known as space ships, thought the interior were similar with US/CAN. Due to EU emission restrictions we have had the 1.0 L 3 cylinder at the bottom end for the 10th gen and 1.5 I-4 at the top (aside from Type R). Our 11th gen is e:Hev only but very popular that it causes suplying problems. The building quality in terms of material and interior has made a major step forward relative to gen 10. Very nice video! Like!
For the lower trims of the 11th gen, the instrument cluster is actually part analog, like the 8th and 9th gen. While the fuel gauge is digital, it’s its own gauge, not part of the screen. My only gripe is that the analog gauge is the speedometer (even though there is also a digital speedo readout) instead of the tachometer like the previous gens. Maybe making 2 types analog speedometers (mph and km/h) is cheaper than making 2 tachometers that are programmed differently (one for gas models, one for hybrids). Maybe shoppers prefer a customizable tachometer that can change its theme (like mood-lighting) and never really thought about wanting the ability to repurpose a redundant speedometer for some other indicator (e.g. temp, instantaneous MPG, battery level for hybrids).
I love my 7th gen EP3 type r, but its been sitting in a garage since summer because a quick bushing and coilover replacement turned into months of problems and lack of motivation. And the last time i returned to the garage after a month the interior started molding because of the garage being extremely moist inside, like raindrops forming on the ceiling moist.
My parents got me the 7th gen EX sedan for my first car and now at 25 I have an 11th gen that I purchased on my own. Civics will always have a special place in my heart.
i love my 7th gen and it’s styling has grown on me, but any opportunity to get a 5th or 6th at a good price i would take. i’ve always loved those and didn’t even know of the 7th gen until my parents got me one.
Great video. I had a 6th Gen '98 Dx Coupe. Seeing your vid reminded me how much I wanted the 4th Gen SI Hatch. Would agree the 5th gen was pretty mint for design overall in coupe form. Did want that 6th gen SIR but still pretty happy with my base DX.
Former 2019 Civic Type R owner here. The AC comment is so true. That car will not age well due to that issue alone. They were charging up to $6k to repair those AC units until they were sued. They have a 9 year warranty now, but after that, good luck.
Would also enjoy a video on the Fit, a.k.a the EP3 civic we have at home. My girlfriend drives a 2016 and sans the god awful noise coming from the engine bay, it’s a riots
Ive owned a 2018 Si Sedan, a 2005 Coupe EX Special Edition (5MT), a 2004 Si and a 2005 Si. I liked my 18 for the fuel economy and the fact that it was easy to build. I didnt run into any real issues with the oiling or anything like that but once I put a tune on it with an intake and fatter turbo inlet pipe, I couldn't hit max boost without it going into limp mode. The 05 Coupe was a cheap daily I bought for like 1k. had 175k and 3rd gear crunched horribly. Had it for about 6 months before the head gasket blew on the way to the junkyard. The 04 Si was good cheap fun but I also got it for cheap. Super rusted out underneath. Ended up selling it to my friend for extra money after my dad got sick. My 05 Si got the bulk of my rebuild dreams. Body kit, full exhaust and headers, interior upgrades, wheels, etc, it had 290k on it when I sold it after my STi blew up and needed the money to fix it. Overall honda has been a great addition to my build dreams. I want to either get into another Si (7th-11th gen) or save up and import the EP3 Type R when it becomes legal and take that massive jump instead of the Si step in between
Great vid. Miss my 93 si hatch. Currently w 19 hatch sp touring 6sp. Lots of fixes, but know the 93 could b pushed harder. Is ur sir for sale? Common bud
This was a great video. Ive had several Civics 93 cx hatch with a GSR motor, 99 civic ex that cost me $900, 07 coupe that was completely mistreated by the owner before me, 08 sedan that I have no fucken clue what the people before were doing🤦🏻♂️ and last but certainly not least. A 2002 Canadian model Civic dx or lx not sure. She was bare bones no tach, no AC, manual everything including the trans. I named her Sugar she was an absolute gem. I traveled thousands of miles with her and she was even my home for a few months. I got her with 200,000 miles and ended up with 275,000 when I sold her. Sugar you are missed.
I've driven the current hybrid in test drives for my little brother and its genuinely a quick car for what it is. I think its a great modern car for someone who wants the best fuel economy but isn't wiling to pay a mortgage as a car note every month. However, if it were my money I'd still get a 6th gen. My uncle had a green one that made it to July of this year on the same engine and transmission and racked up 612,304 miles. It outlasted every other car he's owned since he bought it and moved up in his career.
I got my 24 si back in march. I got 27k miles on it rn. The sticky steering is a bit of a pain but there’s a recall so I’ll get done later. I wish the engine actually had more potential but it still has some umph to it, it even out does a 10th gen in power (I kept up with a 10th gen coupe, btw I’m looking for you in your white civic, I was the black sedan chasing). Anyways, I feel like Honda made this si the way it is for owners to discover its potential. Upgrades will come but until then I’m learning the pitfalls of this car and upgrading its capabilities
My 98 Lx D16Y7 is on the way to 230k, only time it was on the tow truck 2 years ago was the brake line busted due to the rust, besides that, no issues at all and great on gas. Love this car!
Very excited for the Civic hybrid to go into widespread use. I’m happy with the CR-V hybrid. Also, all of the reviews have been extremely effusive in its praise of the Civic hybrid - like it might be the first Civic to compete for the best-ever generation title since the 90s. Time will tell.
As a 2025 civic hybrid owner, this thing is fun to drive. It handles really well and i'm regularly getting 45-50+ mpg while driving. But not because its slow, because its not. Put a big foot on the pedal and it just goes. The fake shifting it does is also pretty believable, though I do wish you could disable it or make it more.. idk aggressive? The "shifts" feel too smooth to me. Maybe i'm just used to how my previous car (2001 celica GT) shifted.
5:32 Wait a minute. That grill - is that a honeycomb design? Are we saying Honda sneakily made a throwback design from 50 years ago one of the centerpieces of its current aesthetic??
For the 2016-2024 Civics, does the 2.0 have a different or identical CVT to the 1.5t? When comparing the 2015 Civic against the 2015 Accord, they had slightly different CVTs, which is why one was recalled for weak shafts while the other wasn’t
I have the 2002 LX, Manual version. Its needs a lot of work lol. But i actually like this car. Not a fan of the engine at all. I have NO VTEC 😂. I used to have a 1997 EX with a D15B , huge difference. The suspension sucks.. still like the car tho
I got an 08 Si sedan a couple months so all this is great info, I didn’t see anything about the 8th gen brake lights are different? Why do some of the 8th gen civic I see have different brake lights?
@@AcuraAdvice I’ve googled 8th gen civics and some of the pictures have the side brake lights that look different. I guess Google is a joke with accuracy so maybe I was mis lead?
I actually quite enjoy my 7th gen coupe... Just barely runs at 298k on the clock... But I daily a 10th gen Si coupe, which I got into after owning a 10th gen hatch. Some bits feel cheap, but the storage capabilities of this gen (and probably 11th gen) are absolutely insane and the stuff that really matters to the driver--the suspension, steering feel, shift feel, yada yada--feels incredible. Simple mods make it feel a little more raw, which I think helps it feel a little more raw than modern, and I like that shit. Also the first departure back away from 2-tier dash which I'm also not a fan of lmao I know you maybe just said it for brevity's sake, but the Si L15 does have some more to it than just a remap over the Sport/Touring L15. Lots of upgraded materials for internals, slightly bigger turbo with a different turbine to keep high response/low spool, shit like that. They are functionally very similar, but wringing out the L15BA*** (not B8) in the hatchback always felt like it was taxing the motor more than it does on the Si, which I suppose has some foundation considering it does feature weaker internals. Loved the video, love your EM1, love Civics. Especially L series Civics ;)
Do you think the replacement of the L15 with the hybrid will recover the reliability of the Civic? Since the recording of the video, Honda also finally issued a recall for the steering issue, indicating that they have finally found the cause of the steering issue. It turns out to be caused by an incorrectly manufactured part rather than a design issue (similar to the rod bearing issue on late 2010s V6 engines and the cracking blocks on the original R18s), so at least it's not caused by design
Hopefully it will...I can't say I'm too optimistic though based on the build quailty I'm seeing lately on the new models. The recall is out, but in Canada at least, no parts are availible yet, so we still can't fix them 🤷♂️
@@AcuraAdvice nb here! Ya I imagine they had different distribution dates, I got a good look at a touring sedan and thought it looked a little too much like the new accords imo
Do you think the 10th gen coupe’s taillight design would have redeemed itself if the center of the one piece taillight was the third brake light? The new hatchback is basically a similar taillight design as the 10th gen coupe, but the center of the onepiece serves as a 3rd brake-light
Do you think the CVTs on the 10th and 11th gen are more reliable than the 2014-15 Civics? How about conpared to the latest versions of CVT from Nissan, Hyundai/Kia, Subaru, Toyota, and GM?
Yes I do think they're better than the previous CVT gen and many other brands, especially the Nissan ones, I spent 4 months working at a Nissan dealer some years ago and have never seen so many dead CVTs in my life 💀😂. I don't like CVT but reliabilty wise, its not the problem with the 10th gen. The problem is the L series engine and many of the computer modules
I hope the blue interior from the 8th gen hybrid comes back to the hybrid trims. Oh well, maybe when the 12th gen comes Edit: the Acura ADX, which is based on HRV, which shares the same platform and interior architecture as the Civic, is available with seats with blue accents. Hopefully this will somehow trickle down to Honda in a few years.
Great video but I must say the Euro market got much better 7th,8th and 9th gen Civics we got the Ep3 type R the 8th gen sedan look much better + we got the hatchback and the type R and the 9th gen came a wagon and they were massive also the euro spec type R got 330 horsepower Unlike you’re underpowered 315 horsepower
I have a 10th gen sedan with 182p.s(thanks Europe). No oil dilution problems.I think its much better car than those 3cyl thrash out there(inclunding 1.0cc civic)
@@wammett1240 the CVT isn’t the weak point for that Civic, it’s the 1.5T. CVT is more reliable than the older CVT from the 2014-15 Civics, but the 1.5T is less reliable than all other engines in Civic history
Love your channel bro, I too miss the 90’s but I’ve owned a 6th,7th,8th,9th and 10th gen civic and I have to disagree with you… the 9th gen civic is, by far, the worst gen, especially the 2012, the 10th gen, despite its issues, is a much better car. Yes modern Hondas aren’t built like they were in ‘95, but comparing new car to new car, Hondas are still mostly better than its competition
Within the 9th gen, it really depends on the model year. 2012 is worse than the 10th gen, I agree. The 2014-2015 has a weaker CVT compared to the more durable CVTs on the 10th gen and took away some of the refinements from the 2013, so I agree when it comes to those model years too. However, within the 7th gen to 10th gen, the 2013 is the peak Civic within that range. The dashboard materials are better than the other model years within the 2001-2021 range. Unlike the 2014-2015 and 10th gen, they did not sacrifice dashboard ergonomics (no capacitive volume slider or HVAC baked into the infotainment), the seats on the 2013 had the fuzziest upholstery for cloth trims in Civic history, they heavily refined the engine and wind noise compared to the 2012, the SI version has more character than the 10th gen. The 10th gen is more refined than the 2012 and 2014-15, but not quite as refined as 2013, the 8th gen, or 11th gen
It’s a shame that the 1.5t ruined the reputation of the entire L series and EarthDreams monocre. It’s not like the naturally aspirated L series engines and other EarthDreams engines are unreliable by design. (The recall and NHTSA investigation for the 2015-2020 J35 engines are for a manufacturing defect, not a design flaw)
Another difference between the CX and DX trims of the 6th generation Hatchback is that the DX came with a color-matched aluminum spoiler, unlike the CX’s black plastic one. Neither trim came with a tachometer, but they had the sensor and wiring for one, so all you had to do was swap the dash cluster with an EX or even an Si cluster.
I've always wondered why Canadians, Brits, etc, say "zed" for z but not "bed", "ced", "ded", "ed", "ged", "ped", "ted", or "ved" for b, c, d, e, g, p, t, and v.

I got an 08 Si sedan a couple months so all this is great info, I didn’t see anything about the 8th gen brake lights are different? Why do some of the 8th gen civic I see have different brake lights?
How are the lights different?
@@AcuraAdvice I’ve googled 8th gen civics and some of the pictures have the side brake lights that look different. I guess Google is a joke with accuracy so maybe I was mis lead?
Binge-worthy deep dive!
Hey the L15 was great in Fits they just don’t fit with turbos and bigger cars
(Also what do you think of Honda fits in general)
Thats true! 1st and 2nd gen Fits are good, I will be doing a Honda Fit video its been requested a lot
Bro that was so funny when you smacking the gun 😂 29:57
I actually quite enjoy my 7th gen coupe... Just barely runs at 298k on the clock...
But I daily a 10th gen Si coupe, which I got into after owning a 10th gen hatch. Some bits feel cheap, but the storage capabilities of this gen (and probably 11th gen) are absolutely insane and the stuff that really matters to the driver--the suspension, steering feel, shift feel, yada yada--feels incredible. Simple mods make it feel a little more raw, which I think helps it feel a little more raw than modern, and I like that shit. Also the first departure back away from 2-tier dash which I'm also not a fan of lmao
I know you maybe just said it for brevity's sake, but the Si L15 does have some more to it than just a remap over the Sport/Touring L15.
Especially L series Civics ;)
hour long? Cracking a Corona open for this one!
The recall is out, but in Canada at least, no parts are availible yet, so we still can't fix them 🤷♂️
The 5th gen has to be the best looking civic ever made! you forgot the Type R tho
The 25 civics have been at dealers for about two months now, we picked up a 24 sport touring weeks before the 25s started to show up
It might be different in different areas, I'm in Canada and we only just got them, and we didnt have them yet when I was recording the voice over
@@AcuraAdvice nb here! Ya I imagine they had different distribution dates, I got a good look at a touring sedan and thought it looked a little too much like the new accords imo
10th gen hatch in canadian market always had manual option for all 3 trims.
I am still driving a 95 Civic coupe with 212K miles.
Do you think the 10th gen coupe’s taillight design would have redeemed itself if the center of the one piece taillight was the third brake light? The new hatchback is basically a similar taillight design as the 10th gen coupe, but the center of the onepiece serves as a 3rd brake-light
14:04 it kinda looks a minivan tbh
I watched my parents never use cruise control my whole life and I’m abouta do the same thing when I get a car
i like the that 70s show red forman reference of buying a japanese car, in his case a toyota. cool video.
Honda is life
Do you think the CVTs on the 10th and 11th gen are more reliable than the 2014-15 Civics? How about conpared to the latest versions of CVT from Nissan, Hyundai/Kia, Subaru, Toyota, and GM?
Yes I do think they're better than the previous CVT gen and many other brands, especially the Nissan ones, I spent 4 months working at a Nissan dealer some years ago and have never seen so many dead CVTs in my life 💀😂. I don't like CVT but reliabilty wise, its not the problem with the 10th gen. The problem is the L series engine and many of the computer modules
The 9th generation Si is the last best Civic Si. The 9th generation Civic has little to none recalls
My favourite gen is the 8th gen and I currently own a 2025 si all black
Hour long video on the Civic? God bless
I got a 6th gen dx coupe such a fun car to drive
I hope the blue interior from the 8th gen hybrid comes back to the hybrid trims. Oh well, maybe when the 12th gen comes
Edit: the Acura ADX, which is based on HRV, which shares the same platform and interior architecture as the Civic, is available with seats with blue accents. Hopefully this will somehow trickle down to Honda in a few years.
The 1992 civic we call the luxline in south africa we had the 180i in that
Great video but I must say the Euro market got much better 7th,8th and 9th gen Civics we got the Ep3 type R the 8th gen sedan look much better + we got the hatchback and the type R and the 9th gen came a wagon and they were massive also the euro spec type R got 330 horsepower Unlike you’re underpowered 315 horsepower
Euro supremacy😎
I agree!
What's your thoughts on Wawa gasoline?
I'm not familiar with it, we don't have it in Canada
I love my 4th and 10th gen si
1:34 Mentions the N600, but the car in that pic is a Z600
My friend is picking up a rust-free, complete, turbocharged ‘90 Civic Hatch for 1k…
I have a 10th gen sedan with 182p.s(thanks Europe). No oil dilution problems.I think its much better car than those 3cyl thrash out there(inclunding 1.0cc civic)
Type r history please🙏
N here I was shopping around for a 11th gen si😭💀
10th gen gets too much hate (unless it’s a cvt)
@@wammett1240 the CVT isn’t the weak point for that Civic, it’s the 1.5T. CVT is more reliable than the older CVT from the 2014-15 Civics, but the 1.5T is less reliable than all other engines in Civic history
Dailying a ‘08 FG2 and on weekends a FL5. Love the platform until I find a s2000 😅
I'm an Integra guy....so no Civic for me (joking). Golden Era Civics for me with some FA5/FG2 sprinkled in.
Own 2 8th gens 2007 r18 with 440k on it never any issues and a 2010 si neither have paint issues. take care of your cars and they wont break.
Thats good advice!
The 2025 civic si looks good tho
A guy I know just bought a 2018 civic si and honestly it’s fast but not as great as the 9th gen si ngl
Youre crazy😂
@@DJV94022 the k24 is genuinely more fun than the l15
Im the 7th gens biggest fan
me too!!

156k on my 1998 civic hatchback. (Original D16y7 with 5 speed)
Forgot to mention when spare tires went away
20:23 What happened in between those 2 months that drove the costs of everything out of whack? The start of the pandemic of course. 😅
I've always wondered why Canadians, Brits, etc, say "zed" for z but not "bed", "ced", "ded", "ed", "ged", "ped", "ted", or "ved" for b, c, d, e, g, p, t, and v.
Yeah you really know what you got
