2 years later the MKII comes out, I saved and picked up the MKI HALL edition. I'm moving up from a Jumper T-Lite v2, which I still use for inside whooping and is in a completely different range. With the saved money I used some to get an ELRS module. Super happy, this info helped me pull the trigger after also looking at the MKII vids to see the difference. Always happy to watch old and new JB vids when I'm looking for an honest and good review. Cheers!
I've had no issues with my T16 so far. I trust it on long range flights miles out. However, if the TX16S proves to be reliable (ribbon cables aren't the only issue that arises in transmitters people...) then I will be switching eventually.

I got a Mobula 6 with the FatShark Recon V3. I went to the park today and I was actually able to fly it around and go with the trees and all. It was fun to see other people stopping by to watch. Just wanted to say thanks for your channel, learning a lot from it. (Also I'm from GA, if there are any events nearby I'd really like to check them out).
Great review as always. I got the Jumper T16 last November and have lost count how many times I have had to reseat the ribbon cables. If only this radio was out last year. 👍
Got my jumper t16 a while ago, still loving everything about it, should be good till the screen stops working, but even then you can just get a replacement
Very good no nonsense unbiased video. Looking forward to your T18 report as I'm leaning toward that one. Nice country setting. Had you pegged in a NYC apartment.

Tasos Chalkidis , I’ve got a crossfire module and a few things that run it, bought a jumper t16 but I stuffed up some settings after updating it, been trying to go back in the updates to no avail, so I decided to get the radiomaster and make sure I wait for a couple of weeks after the update comes out before I do update it, so, even though I’ve got the crossfire the full power unit and some receivers, I’m also going to get an R9 unit and some receivers because they are so much cheaper and do a similar thing.
I've had issues with the TX16S internal RF module's range, getting 20-30% lower RSSI than the patch antenna on my X-Lite. I replaced it with a uFL-SMA adapter + VAS 2.4GHz antenna and it improved a LOT, plus my antenna is now removable.
My T16's not dead yet, just this week I upgraded it to have the internal multi module (that was fun, learning that I had to re-flash OpenTX to make it work...) and the carbon fibre-look faceplate which makes it's appearance so much nicer. I opted not to install the USB charging board since IMHO it's not good enough, if one cell somehow gets discharged more than the other, the charger will over-charge the other cell, *it* *does* *not* *balance* *charge* *them* *properly* . Going to install an MT30 socket on it (it's a 3-pin XT30) and make a custom cable so I can charge the cells with my iSDT Q6 multiple times faster than USB.

@@rijal71469 I ordered mine back in March. So I waited a long time lol.. So far, I'm loving it!! Definitely takes some getting used to the Hall gimbals. So much smoother than my taranis x9d.
I bought a Jumper T8SG Plus and had same serious issues. I contact Jumper via email and facebook, several times, i never received an answer. If radiomaster offers only a little bit of service, there are way ahead!
Hi Joshua, thanks for the review! I received my radio on Tuesday and haven’t had any problems yet. However, I have see some people complaining that the digitiser on the touch screen leaves a weird square pattern. I don’t know how they’re radios have come or if you’ve run into the same problem, but I found that there’s a very stiff screen protector that is actually tucked around the edges of the display. I removed that and the screen is perfect now with no touch sensitivity lost (I checked in the calibrator sections).
I'll wait for your review of the t18 (pro) for my final decision. My x9d died on me yesterday (oke, kinda murdered her by dropping her from a little to high) and I really dislike the path chosen by Taranis. Slapped an fs-ia6 in one of my beaters and found my first radio (fs-i6) in the shed. Gimbals are pretty worn but she still gets the job (me getting my fix) done.
I think the one thing that HAS to be said is we also don't know how radio master will perform as a company. Jumper has already shown that they listen to feedback, respond quickly, and support their products with options to buy individual upgrades that may have been added to later revisions. We'll have to see if radio master acts similarly.
Joshua, Nice video Thank you.. I just received my TX16S yesterday and haven't flown with it but just wanted to mention there were no issues with stuck buttons or anything bad with mine.. The left and right sliders are a little loose but unless you bump one.. it's not going anywhere and the center detent ( along with the ON Screen display VERY clearly show the position of each) I did NOT expect to get the Touch screen functionality in the display but it IS there in the $120 Banggood version I got with the Hall Effect gimbals.. I just wish there was a place like P400 and P401 inside to to add-in the SJ and SJ switches I added into my Q-7XS radios cause I really like having momentary push buttons under the index finger to trigger voice announcements of ( I have 6 diggerent ) telemetery parameters on demand .. I'm going to update both of these older Q-7S radios to 2.3.7 1st then transfer their D16 and ASSAN models to the Radiomaster and set up the TX16S for wireless training .. Really hoping is goes smoothly and am looking forward to more videos on the TX16 soonest.. Thanks Again.. JimS
My Jumper T16 has started developing ribbon cable problems. I was able to repair most of them, but the RS slider connector broke while I was trying to fix it. I don't NEED the sliders in my current RC habit, but I may want it back another day, so I'm putting my finger on the pulse of the market by watching these reviews in case I decide it's time to upgrade. That said, I JUST got to the part where Jumper is offering upgraded cables, and I'm probably going to spring for that. I also will want to order a new connector/mux board because I broke that connector, but hey, I admit that that one's my fault, and I'll pay for the repair.
I’ve got mine on preorder and looking forward to getting it in my hands. Yes the jumper t18 might be better again, but it’s also more expensive than the radiomaster tx16s, which is important to me, as I’m not exactly rich lol. I’m sure that I’m going to be happy with my purchase and if it does need one of those minor glitches repaired, I’m willing to accept that for the otherwise great quality that this brings to the table. Also with the new t18, how do you fit an aerial that will be compatible with the r9 setup, do you have to drill another hole in the body of the case, and do you actually have a place to fit the connection to the r9 antenna.
just ordered mine through your affiliate link with a bunch of new receivers, FPV cams, and flight batteries so you should have gotten a little of that. lol. thanks for all you do!!
i love my tx16s. just learning to fly and it is nice, i have the newest version raised page and return buttons and lower profile sticks i use it on my 5 inch build and my tiny whoop, its really nice. at the end of the day your flying and the radiomaster helps deliver that experience..
Purchased this the other day on Amazon and paid $300 with all the bells and whistles (team blacksheep module, Hall gimbles) and so I can get it sooner than a month. Orserd the external charger and the original radiomaster 5000mAH battery. I spent between $400-$500 for it all and I just got it to use with my tinyhawk 2 freestyle and the velocidrone simulator. Smh, crazy I know but I didn't wanna wait a month to get it just to save $50.
Definitely getting this or the Jumper T18. I really don't care for my Qx7. I'll wait patiently for your review. Thanks, JB!

The charge was slow because of the way balancers work. The battery is charged first without any balancing until one of the cells reaches 4.2 volts then that cell is slowly discharged by the balancer for a while, then the whole pack is charged again until the cell is 4.2 again. And that cycle is repeated until the whole pack is charged. So by putting one charged and one discharged cell you created the worst case scenario. In fact if you used your regular lipo charged I bet it would take equally as long, unless you bumped up the current way up of course. Anyways. I preordered the radiomaster and I'm getting rid of my old x9d ;)
Joshua: As usual, your review was very thorough and covered some details and testing not done elsewhere, which I appreciate. I did not hear any comments about the color monitor. I'm concerned, and some reviewers commented, that this color monitor may get washed out when used in direct sunlight. Please give us your opinion. I think this could be a show stopper. Enjoyed time with you when you visited Duke. Jim
I got my RM TX16S. OpenTX updates are available via the OpenTX Nightlys. When 2.3.8 goes live in the near future, we'll update using the normal methods. When you go to the downloads page on the Radiomaster website, the firmware link just takes you to the OpenTX website. Please note that that Tx16S is not running OpenTX v2.3.7. It is running a nightly version of 2.3.8. If you download Conpanion 2.3.7, the TX16S is not even listed on the drop-down list. I downloaded one of the 2.3.8 nightly Companion versions. The TX16S is on that drop-down list. I was able to backup my TX16S. Of course, this all goes away when 2.3.8 goes live.
I loved the fact i bought a x9d plus se 2019 and bought crossfire for it and OH YEAH, the xjt module to work with d8 protocol! I get to change out modules. Booyah!
Really happy with the upgrade coming from a really old x9d. For the price I think its worth the risk but I would have no problem repairing it myself. Mine showed up in perfect condition though.
Mine arrived today, you can't compare it to Futaba Graupner or Jeti but I like it, better than most FrSky and is better than a DX6, comparable to a DX9. And there is CF at an R9 price.
there some HARDWARE CHANGES to the 3rd batch of radiomaster t16s (got mine just a few days ago hallsensor version) the protective film on the touch screen doesn't have a grid pattern on it that so many thought to be the touch screen pattern, there's a larger louder speaker installed in the back cover not in the back of the grid in front so two halves are now connected by two cables, probably important info for anybody opening the radio for the first time and the project box is replaced with a simple flat plastic cover and you get extra screen protector in the box.
Would IT be possible tot use a video receiver with this radio master to get fpv footage on this screen ...would be the holy grail! Love this kind of ways to make something like this possible. Best Regards Rob Geraats
I don't see needing to upgrade from my Qx7 in the foreseeable future. But then again one of my main quads is still flying with a SP Racing F3 on 3.5.7.
I'm not sure if this is an issue because I'm new to all this radio controllers (literally just received the TX16S yesterday), the radio seems very good (at least for someone who never had one, it seems right), the downfall of the radio is the documentation, the manual is somehow helpful but doesn't tell you things properly, if it wasn't for videos on youtube and some written articles on the internet I think I would still be figuring it all out. Also did the typical mistake of thinking the USB entry at the top would be the charging one. The manual doesn't even point out to the charging port, no indications of what it means having the green light on (I wasn't sure if it was thinking the batteries where fully charged). I've now got it to work with the Playstation 4 as I'm going to be spending a lot of time practicing on the simulator before attempting flying any drone. Things to keep in mind for me: - Better documentation - Remember the SD Card should be formatted in FAT32 (in osx is the MS-DOS option in the Disk Utility) - Remember that PS4 is also FAT32 compatible (exFAT is better but Radio doesn't support it) - Boot-load mode is T4 pushed to the right, T1 pushed to the left and then press Power - Have your own micro SD card to upload files into as the one that came with my radio was too slow and was causing data issues in the beginning - Calibration mode is really weird at first but all you should be focusing is the 2 sticks, then S1 and S2 and LS and RS (on the top edges of the controller), on the bottom middle of the screen theres also a number 1, those are the numbers under the logo RADIOMASTER (press them all when calibrating) - Calibration mode again, 1st action step is to centre everything, the 2nd action step is to go through the minimum and max range of each item) - If you have throttle warning when you turn on the radio go to SYS > PAGE > RADIO SETUP > Scroll left with the wheel > Press the wheel > Rotate wheel to right to select Mode 2 > Press the wheel again to enter value - If you have controls warning, the default of the radio is to have all levers pointed up. I think this kinda summarised everything I've gone through yesterday.
The signal strength you’re actually seeing on the display is actually the telemetry data and not the actual RF link signal. The telemetry signal strength is way weaker than the actual RF link. I know this because I’ve lost telemetry data a distance while still having control of the aircraft.
I’ve been stuck with a qx7 for the last 3-4 years and looking to upgrade soon but still not sure what radio I want. Linda want a tango 2 since I’m in the middle of switching all of my rigs to crossfire. But at the same time I have the micro tx and could always put it in the radio master.
I’m dying here. I’m new to the hobby and was all set to pull the trigger on the Tango 2 and go full Crossfire since long(ish) range is my ultimate goal. Then the TX16S comes out with the Crossfire mod installed for just about $40 more than the Tango 2. I feel like the proverbial deer in the headlights. I love the compact form of the Tango 2 (and maybe add a LiteRadio 2 for my Tinyhawk and other FRSKY drones I might add) especially since I dream of lugging a cinematic quad when I hike and backpack. But the versatility of the TX16S is tempting. Help a newbie out!
My radio master arrived with the back page button not working. Heli nation advised to open up the back and check the plug. I think I’ll live with it until something else goes bad.
Great review!!! RSSI is not %, it is dB! -6dB = double the distance. This is why it doesn't decrease lineary. 🙂 The RM TX16 will be supported by OTX 2.3.8
Good morning Joshua. Please help me. I really liked this radio. I can't find the information on the Radiomaster website about the output power in MW 2.4gz of this module. Another question, is if I can change the module to jp5in1 in the future? The last question: I will not use 900mhz because I fly planes. Is the power of the TX16 at 2.4gz the same as the 2.4gz of the jp5in1? Thank you very much
Im own the Jumper T16 and you know what I will say .... All these new equipment are even superfluous for beginners or mid-level pilots, if there is equipment, why change it? The main thing to every TX today... to support TBS crossfire and openTX (yappu maps etc) - it’s really cool.
Nice video! Quick question? My Left stick (Mode 2) is off center to the right. Not by much, but I can see it for sure. This was not an issue at all since calibrating worked great, however, after using the radio with a Flight Sim, the Sim told me that Channel 4 is off center??? Is there a way to center the stick using some "Gimbal Adjustments" in the inside??? Thanks.
Already bought it. Should be here later this week. Definitely seems to have more capabilities than I will ever completely utilize. A little anxious to try out a better radio than the fifty dollar one I have been using.
Noticed an ad for the new Radiomaster TX16s, in the photo of the transmitter was a closeup of the folding arm, on the arm is embossed "Jumper-RC.com", Radiomaster and Jumper are made the same body molds. Minor changes from the Jumper T16, its brother from another mother.
The RadioMaster does not have a folding arm. The Jumper T18 does. Are you sure you've got your facts straight? I mean, you can see in this video that the Jumper doesn't have a folding arm.
@@JoshuaBardwell The Radiomaster TX16s is currently up on Ebay, if you google Radiomater TX16s and go to images you will see a number of images of Radiomaster itself and a black plastic replacement handle below the transmitter. On the black plastic handle is the Jumper Logo. By the way have learnt a lot from your videos. Regards
Thing I’m most interested about Jumper T18 is how well it performs with the stock antenna. Don’t 900mhz and 2.4ghz typically require differently tuned antennas?
Thanks Joshua...two questions. What is the power output in 900mhz mode, and what about ACCESS compatibility? - - - wait a minute, I think I'm confused with the Jumper T18...yeesh...lots of radio these days.
Joshua! i got a question for ya. I have a NewbeeDrone BeeBrain and I'm about to buy the FrSky Taranis QX7 ACCESS to fly it. I believe its a newer version and not the V2. can you please explain to me how I can pilot my D8 Drone with a D16 Transmitter?!? PLEASE!!
@@BBFPV the T18 lite (no R9) has an external 2.4 antenna. The T18 standard and pro (R9 support) have an internal 2.4 antenna and an external 900 antenna.
Thanks Joshua for the review. I was about to get Jumper, but got my eyes on Flysky Paladin. Ended with doubts in getting any of them. But this seems to be better choice to replace my Flysky i10 and stays along side my Futaba 10J, as it binds with AFHDS 2A and FHSS.
I contacted Jumper for new cables yesterday after seeing your video, They responded very quickly and said no. It would take to long and suggested it would be easier if I buy them from the dealer.
Well I'm just going to keep saying they are replacing them for free and after a while either they will say no and people will get pissed or they will give in.
I realize it is purely subjective, but I have a Jumper T12 and I love the small size due to the fact that I can reach all controls with no reach and it is compact and easy to handle!
i got my t16 and im loving it i had to shield the back plate to use a dragonlink TX but after doing it its the coolest LR setup ever :) wish i waited for a bit to get this with a touch screen :/ new stuff comes too fast man

Same happened to me today with the same transmitter
Bought this radio last night...Excited to finally start investing into this hobby!
Literally waiting on my radimaster to be delivered right now lol.. should be here in about an hour.. I'm pretty excited about this radio.
How is it working? I'm trying out on DLR simulator. Can't wait to get mine. How long did you wait? I ordered mine on June 1st from banggood.
Very few videos out there, that shows comparison of jumper and radiomaster currebtly.... Great work... Always to the point
I removed that and the screen is perfect now with no touch sensitivity lost (I checked in the calibrator sections).
for now i stay with my jumper t16 its been really good to fly my drones . good video
Joshua,
Nice video Thank you.. JimS
Thank you for the very honest and open review.
Man , the place you live is heaven.
Thanks for your review, been really waiting for it)
Purchased this the other day on Amazon and paid $300 with all the bells and whistles (team blacksheep module, Hall gimbles) and so I can get it sooner than a month.
Love your vids Joshua. Keep it up!👍🔥
My shipped yesterday! Super hyped
Don't forget, ground range is always less than air range. Nice House Joshua!!
Thank you so much for doing a range test I've been waiting for someone to do it!
I just ordered mine a few days ago.
E Rieger , as did I, looking forward to getting it in my hands.
Thanks Josh, I learn from you every day, peace
Jumper T18 Supports R9 ... 5in1 is CRAZY
Joshua:
As usual, your review was very thorough and covered some details and testing not done elsewhere, which I appreciate.
I had both a stuck job wheel and model button. Was able to open it up and get everything moving.
I loved the fact i bought a x9d plus se 2019 and bought crossfire for it and OH YEAH, the xjt module to work with d8 protocol! I get to change out modules. Booyah!
There it is!! Looks like an awesome radio man!
The DX9 is way better quality build, I have both. Saying that it's a nice radio with a large colour screen etc
same here, mine was arrived yesterday and im very excited
Great review, Joshua! Thanks a lot! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
You tested telemetry range. Better to arm the quad and walk whith the quad and then you can see when it failsafes because the motors turn off
I purchased it on banggood along with Crossfire. Greetings from Turkey :)
there some HARDWARE CHANGES to the 3rd batch of radiomaster t16s (got mine just a few days ago hallsensor version) the protective film on the touch screen doesn't have a grid pattern on it that so many thought to be the touch screen pattern, there's a larger louder speaker installed in the back cover not in the back of the grid in front so two halves are now connected by two cables, probably important info for anybody opening the radio for the first time and the project box is replaced with a simple flat plastic cover and you get extra screen protector in the box.
"Oh cool, check out that Lamborghini's taillights!"
"Hmmm...that looks like we can make some buttons!"
Would IT be possible tot use a video receiver with this radio master to get fpv footage on this screen ...would be the holy grail! Love this kind of ways to make something like this possible. Best Regards Rob Geraats
I doubt it. That would be hekkin cool though
Great idea. Would be soooo cool 😎
I think it has extra uart ports, or maybe you could input video from a video receiver into the external module bay.
@joshua , please make this happen;)
Sweet! Thanks for the good review! Love my Taranis for my drones but a lot of eflite rc planes only come bind and fly.
I don't see needing to upgrade from my Qx7 in the foreseeable future. But then again one of my main quads is still flying with a SP Racing F3 on 3.5.7.
a dinosaur.. 3.5.7 was good enough though, I still have a wizard x220 on the same thing..lol
Things to keep in mind for me:
- Better documentation
- Remember the SD Card should be formatted in FAT32 (in osx is the MS-DOS option in the Disk Utility)
- Remember that PS4 is also FAT32 compatible (exFAT is better but Radio doesn't support it)
- Boot-load mode is T4 pushed to the right, T1 pushed to the left and then press Power
- Have your own micro SD card to upload files into as the one that came with my radio was too slow and was causing data issues in the beginning
- Calibration mode is really weird at first but all you should be focusing is the 2 sticks, then S1 and S2 and LS and RS (on the top edges of the controller), on the bottom middle of the screen theres also a number 1, those are the numbers under the logo RADIOMASTER (press them all when calibrating)
- Calibration mode again, 1st action step is to centre everything, the 2nd action step is to go through the minimum and max range of each item)
- If you have throttle warning when you turn on the radio go to SYS > PAGE > RADIO SETUP > Scroll left with the wheel > Press the wheel > Rotate wheel to right to select Mode 2 > Press the wheel again to enter value
- If you have controls warning, the default of the radio is to have all levers pointed up.
Rumors are that Tango 2 is goiing to get a 2.4 GHz module so you may not have to compromise.
My radio master arrived with the back page button not working. Heli nation advised to open up the back and check the plug. I think I’ll live with it until something else goes bad.
Great review!!!
RSSI is not %, it is dB!
-6dB = double the distance.
This is why it doesn't decrease lineary. 🙂
The RM TX16 will be supported by OTX 2.3.8
Good morning Joshua. Please help me. I really liked this radio. I can't find the information on the Radiomaster website about the output power in MW 2.4gz of this module. Another question, is if I can change the module to jp5in1 in the future? The last question: I will not use 900mhz because I fly planes. Is the power of the TX16 at 2.4gz the same as the 2.4gz of the jp5in1? Thank you very much
I love my Tx16s 🎉
With crossfire module… awesomeness lol
After jumper treating us all as gunnie pigs I will buy this and the TBS cross fire.
@@JoshuaBardwell The Radiomaster TX16s is currently up on Ebay, if you google Radiomater TX16s and go to images you will see a number of images of Radiomaster itself and a
black plastic replacement handle below the transmitter. On the black plastic handle is the Jumper Logo. By the way have learnt a lot from your videos. Regards
That just means some 3rd party is selling it with a folding Jumper handle because they think it will make it sell better.
Thing I’m most interested about Jumper T18 is how well it performs with the stock antenna. Don’t 900mhz and 2.4ghz typically require differently tuned antennas?
Yep.
2.4ghz antenna will be internal while the external is a 900mhz one
Interesting! That would certainly one way to do it.
Thanks Joshua...two questions. What is the power output in 900mhz mode, and what about ACCESS compatibility? - - - wait a minute, I think I'm confused with the Jumper T18...yeesh...lots of radio these days.
Just an observation, tx antenna vertical, quad antenna horizontal. I like your channel
i already have the T16 and holds pretty steady for me, i don't think i should get bothered to upgrade it.
Joshua! i got a question for ya. I have a NewbeeDrone BeeBrain and I'm about to buy the FrSky Taranis QX7 ACCESS to fly it. I believe its a newer version and not the V2. can you please explain to me how I can pilot my D8 Drone with a D16 Transmitter?!? PLEASE!!
I'll wait for the Jumper T18 PRO with JP5 in 1 module.
Can you explain to me why you prefer R9M to CF? And how does 2.4 and 900 work with just one antenna?
@@BBFPV it doesn't work with one antenna. You need two, or a two in one antenna. You swap them.
@@BBFPV the T18 lite (no R9) has an external 2.4 antenna. The T18 standard and pro (R9 support) have an internal 2.4 antenna and an external 900 antenna.
Got my t18 pro 2 days ago. Software was a hot mess and the 5 in 1 module was not ready in software. It doesn't support R9 yet
If you want 900mhz they also sell the TX16s with a crossfire module, probably cheaper than the T18 pro and probably better... (crossfire vs R9 anyway)
great review as always Bardwell, cheers mate
Sir thank u so much for your time and expertise
i got my t16 and im loving it i had to shield the back plate to use a dragonlink TX but after doing it its the coolest LR setup ever :) wish i waited for a bit to get this with a touch screen :/ new stuff comes too fast man
Dude wtf! I'm more impressed with that log cabin/barn style house, sick as fack 👍🏻 thanks for the review 🇺🇸
i just made the big jump and got the tx16s and the combo with micro tbs and 3 rx
You said it... "I could not bring myself to spend $400 to $500 dollars on a radio" thanks for the great review!!
Isn't it a wise decision to let all the problems get worked out before purchasing.
oh yes it is, if you just wanne fly a quad on Crossfire all you need is a transmitter with hall effect gimbals and a jr bay
