Love your projects! You inspire me to knit. I am 76 yrs old and live in Florida where it is warm or hot most of the time. I do have family who live in cooler states but sometimes it is hard to ship to them. Your work is so beautiful and I love hearing your stories of family. I am glad your daughter is doing better after her ear procedure. I have 4 adult children, 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Take care, stay safe and keep doing what you are doing to combat stress and stay balanced.
That's quite the legacy you have! That's great. I wanted to share a new philosophy of mine about knitting cold weather garments. I live in California but I'm determined to eventually knit a Fair Isle sweater in some wooly wool. I realized that, for me, it's not about knitting something that I can 'wear' but something that I will 'love', because I will enjoy the process and journey of making something truly lovely. I'm taking this approach with quilting as well. 😊

@@suzio6571 I love your philosophy. I live in Alabama and can't wear very many wool items. Just socks and hats the days it is cold here but I just love knitting them. I have yarn for an Arne and Carlos wool sweater. I'm trying to get up the nerve to start it. Im working on a cotton/acrylic sweater now and of course two pairs of wool socks. I love to quilt too and crochet and cross stitch

I have an old 1950 child card book. It tells mothers to place baby wrapped up in a pram under a tree and then suggests mother to do their house work in all weather's.

Thanks to UA-cam algorithms I got to meet you today. 😊 I enjoyed your knitting chat, but, I must say I needed to hear what you called your “rant.” As you spoke about your daughter’s surgery and your son’s birthday and so much more you spoke to me and so many others who are under stress and haven’t spoke about it. Prices at the grocery, everyday items we all need are going up all the time. It seems like this is all creeping up on us, like size of your daughter’s medical file. This is all happening so we don’t realize it, perhaps? Yet, there is something going on within us, and we can’t quite identify it. You are wonderful. You identified it for yourself, but also for all of us.
Love your new dress it really looks so nice on you. I admire anyone who can knit a dress because I think it would take me years. I’ve knitted a few socks in DK yarn held with mohair and boy are they so soft and warm ~ such a good idea. Hope your health improves ~ stress and lack of sleep are never a good combination so do take care of yourself.

I hope the doctors can find an answer to your health issues. So sorry to hear that you 6 year old has been through so much with her health issues. This is a difficult time for sure. Inflation is higher in the US then it has been in 40 yrs. Groceries are outrageous!! Everything cost more. We at least have our knitting and crocheting to help us stay a little relaxed and calm. I love your dress! I am working on my second top and it is color work. Almost done. Those are awesome minis for your daughter’s faded shawl. I appreciate that your taking the time to share with us. Hi Jana, I enjoy your videos so much - in fact yours is now my number one favourite knitting podcast. You've encouraged me to cast on more projects than I "should" with only a tiny bit of guilt. I love the glimpses of your family life, the Finnish landscape and of course your knitting progress. Watching how fast you knit has also inspired me to try to switch from English style knitting to European style so I can finish more objects. As soon as you work out a way to ship to Australia I'll be ordering some of your yarns.
Jana, your dress came out so beautiful and just the perfect colors for you and the fit is perfect too! I know this dress is something you will be wearing a lot during the winter. Maybe since it came out so nice you could make another in yarns that will be good for Spring and Summer as well. It is so nice to see all your projects. So happy to hear your daughter's procedure went well, but I know how stressful it is when your child has medical issues. Please feel free to share things if it helps to make you feel better about your life as this is a crazy time for all of us and having anything done medically is a nightmare during these trying times. Hoping things will get better for us all. It is a real joy to see a new chat pop up from you in your You Tube space as I feel like I am sitting with you knitting away and sharing our daily life issues. Feel better and try to stay calm and get more sleep when possible. Our bodies recharge during sleep and heal as well. I come from Bavaria and when I had my children sleeping outside in the north of the US unless it was really cold, people considered it child abuse. At home in Germany we also have the saying about that only unsuitable clothing is the problem, not the weather. We also have the Waldschule, where the children go to regular school outside in the woods in the earlier years. I love your dress, it is the kind I like to wear also a bit longer. I wish you good health, this too, shall pass, at least I hope so.

I was born in the 1950s and all babies were put outside to sleep during the daytime here in England. There were huge prams that were big enough for lots of blankets and there were also rain covers. I have always been in robust good health throughout my 66 years, so it obviously didn't harm me. It seems to me that too many people have lost the knowledge that dealing with winter temperatures depends on wearing more/different clothes, not staying inside all the time.
Winter is the best time to be outside!

I like the word, "Balanced", so important. Beautiful knitting projects, there is a lot of stress being a wife and mom, an entrepreneur, creating your own yarn and having a retail business. Loved the story of having your children take naps in the cold, I will have to remember, there isn't terrible weather, just inappropriate clothing. Looking forward to our next visit with you.

Being all of those things is challenging sometimes, but I'm trying to figure it out. It would have been so much easier, if our daughter would be an average child without all the health issues.

I love the ribbing on your striped socks. It definitely makes a new look :) our three children have always been sleeping outside during the day as well. Even at preschool! I definitely relate to the comments one might get :) I live in Sweden and my mom is finnish.
In the day cares here in Norway where I have worked the children can sleep outside down to -10 Celsius..

I think you are just saying what we are all thinking about the economy it’s a crazy situation and there just seems to be no end to it all. Moi from Wisconsin USA. I am a new knitter. I have made 2 sweaters. I was an exchange student in Somero, Suomi as a high school student. I did learn to speak some Finnish but I haven’t spoken Finnish in a long time. I enjoy watching your videos while drinking tea and knitting early in the morning. It brings me a lot of peace and helps me remember Finland.
This is my first time to watch your video. I found you from my friends on Knit ink. I like your projects and knitting ideas. I have recently retired from teaching and have loved having the time to explore all of the knitting blogs and videos. I am from England but now live in North Carolina - still cold enough to wear wool - just for short time in the winter. Most of my projects are gifts for other people.

Hi Jana. Please don't feel bad about sharing your stresses and problems with us. Friends are the best people to share the good times and also the bad times with. It's good to hear your daughters surgery went well. Kids are so resilient aren't they? I so laughed at your comments on putting your napping babies outside in all weather's. That's not something that's common here in NZ.. I'm knitting on my 4th pair of socks for 2022. I bought some Halloween colored yarns from Hobbi. My grandsons are going to love the crazy fluro colors.. Secretly, I'm aiming for 30 pairs of socks this year. The temperatures here are so hot, in the 30 degrees range, but here I am knitting socks like a crazy person.!

I enjoyed watching you knit with DPN's. You knit so fast. I've only been knitting since January. I can't seem to finish a hat I'm working on because the needle slips off and I loose stitches or I can't get the stitches back on or I loose my place. Superwash yarn is slippery. I find it very frustrating, but you give me hope. Your dress is beautiful. I love how you modeled it.
Hi! Maybe you could try different type of needles. Wooden needles are great for slippery yarns. If you prefer metal needles, Addi Novel are very good, they have special bumps to keep the yarn from slipping. If you're a loose knitter, just like me, you could try tensioning the yarn in another way. Just keep knitting and it always gets better by time.
I am not a great knitter but would love to be. I would love to be good at it. I love creating.
Please raise your prices accordingly. You can’t run a business with margins that are too low. It’s just reality right now, don’t feel bad about it, the suppliers and energy company etc also don’t feel bad. Take care of yourself and your family first. ❤️

That's so horrible that your friend can't get her medicine because a doctor won't see her! And prices of everything have gone up a ton in the last six months here in the US as well. It's so hard.
Guess you could organise a kids party outside for the birthday to give fun memories, its a good idea. Maybe with muurikkalettu and some traditional outdoor games. Would make fun content to follow the planning for it! Happy to have found your channel. Thanks for the company as I snuggle down to sleep in Midwest US. Been 25yrs since bought yarn that was acrylic, someone destashed a huge amount of acrylic and down to just a bit. Wool is very expensive here. Drop spinning wool and alpàca has calmed in all the stuff. I am there with you in medical diagnosis muddle. Medicine is helping while doctor says it can't because she didn't give that diagnosis!! Seem to swing from laughing at absurdity to crying for the same well seasoned with frustration,fear and anger.good to know am not alone

Glad to hear that your daughter's procedure/surgery went well with no untoward repercussions. I hope that you recover soon from whatever is causing you pain. Yes, getting medical attention now is so complicated due to Covid onslaught. Oh who could have ever imagined this global pandemic? You have a good attitude towards the buffeting that life can subject us to. Keep knitting - it is a mental health balm for sure. On a happier note, your dress is lovely. I love the colorway of the socks you are knitting for your daughter and thank you for highlighting the granny stripes blanket/throw, now I know what to do with wrap I want to frog plus yarn I want to use up. It will be the perfect project to resurrect my crocheting skills - haven't crocheted in years as prefer knitting. I usually prefer knitting as well, but granny stripe blanket is such an easy and relaxing crochet project that I always have one of those going. It's a great way to use up all the scraps and unwanted yarn.
