No offence, no appologies. I, for one, needed at least second listening to ruminate what I was hearing. And yes, for a long time I thought Steve Gadd was the drummer here. No, but another brilliant one - Vinnie Colaiuta. You have developed your attitude with this music - with warts and all - as everyboy has, and maybe this was its pusrpose. You grew to a total appreciation, as real Zappa fans did. Thank you for that, Jim! Nice reaction. A lot to come, you just stepped on the podium :)

"... Because this is a stupid song. AND THAT'S THE WAY I LIKE IT!" Zappa did what all great artists do, they perform work they want to experience.
I don't know if this has been suggested to you yet, but the the best place to go next would be nearly a decade back in time to Zappa's first truly great long concept album, 200 Motels. Rock/symphonic music featuring the mighty London Philharmonic Orchestra.

I apologize for calling you Tipper Gore, after side one of one, and am elated that you didn't give up on Joe. Fascinating the parallels to your own life. (Pastries, marital aids, etc.) But thank you thank you for reminding us that music really is the best. Having gone through information, knowledge, wisdom, truth, love, and music...I always wind up finding my home in the flow. I can simply say "Music is the best" and you and I, (and others in Zappadom) can have an entire triple album rush to mind. Those other realms lack that magic. What playfulness of voices replaying in my head!

Interesting you've compared the Watermelon to Comfortably Numb. I think I've said it before under one of the previous videos, that to me this album as a whole is a parallel to The Wall, especially with what the protagonist goes through and how the world treats them both. And that's by pure coincidence I believe. These two were released at almost exactly the same time, so there's no chance one was inspired by the other.
But yeah, the "greatest guitar solo ever" is on both as well ;)

Been a fan for 45 years.
I have everything released before and after his passing.
    Seen him live 3 times.
There is tons of good records to listen to from Zappa, the best one's is while he was still alive and involved in the mixing of the records, nowdays they release new records every year, live stuff and it's OK but I like the 70s and 80s records more when he was involved.

You shouldn't feel foolish. Frank intended for his audience to be offended, to be outraged, to squirm with uncomfortable subject matter. To think as well as feel. It's almost impossible to have a sense of humour in these politically correct times, but let's face it, the human condition can be ridiculous when you look at it and there's always a victim in comedy. No one escaped Frank's scathing wit - even his own musicians. Frank was always pushing boundaries with subject matter and musical invention and it's not always easy to digest. That's why you almost never hear him on the radio or discussed by the mainstream music media at large. His artistic freedom is a threat to their narrow-minded corporate agenda. A truly forgotten musical/satirical genius.

Hi there! Great reaction! Been waiting for you to complete it. Your assesment of the production and general sound of the album is confirmed by some of my audiophile friends, who will use this record to test a system. Regarding the mention of Steve Gadd, he’s just making Vinnie try (successfuly) to do a S Gadd type of triplet drum fill, then asking “ok, Vinnie, where’s 5” prompting Vinnie to play 5 against 4. I think you missed that, cause you were talking, but that’s ok. It’s been a pleasure to watch you “warming up” to this magnificent album. Keep it up, and keep going! Greetings from Singapore! anyway, there is (and probably never will be) anybody comparable to FZ.
Yeah there are countless brilliant guitar players out there; but nobody who composes, plays across and blends genres from do-wop to showtunes and tv show themes, blues, country and all the rest with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

Yes ....your blushing at start of year was funny Jim. Frank shocked you....I was reading the start of A Princess of Mars the other day and the author was clearly a man of his time....there is so much probably unconscious and blatantly probably ignored racism/sexism etc in his and other literature it can make the reader quick to anger or put them off /quickly judge the experience (which is fine!)Though Frank was always a bit in your face and by nature provocative, he too had his own prejudices (consciously or not)... ways of seeing the world. Doesn't make it right. Just makes it genuinely from his time and therefore his own mind...
You know civilisation is really dying when art has its freedom being censored or transformed to suite a new age. That ever evolving discussion on morality and value systems can't happen if the discussion...and the evolution of that conversation.... is hidden. 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐....sry too serious. This is Frank ffs!!!!☺️🤭

Put this in the context of the superficial futility of man you have experienced so far with this album and perhaps it is best to think, " who gives a f..k anyway " Who indeed? My unsolicited advice is that if you still have one don't sell it for anything, to anyone, under any circumstances, at any price. You don't have to be boring arse, just be very careful out there. IMO, this is what Frank was trying to say in almost every word he wrote.
