    My deep thanks to you for making this video. I started noticing this sound in my 2006 Sienna about 3 years ago. Made my minivan sound like a diesel when accelerating at slow speeds. It was annoying, but there were no performance issues so I didn’t worry about it, though I worried it was a transmission issue. Came across your video with this simple fix and it was just what I needed. Cost about $25 to do the repair. Only about 10% of the original gasket remained. It was mostly dust. The new gasket cured the rattle and also got rid of a persistent creaking that must have also been coming from that joint. My bolts were pretty locked in. Took a while to break them loose. Anyway, many thanks. One of the most practical videos I’ve come across. My wife is so happy the sounds are gone, and my kids can’t believe it.

      You're very welcome! Thanks for sharing your story! Just did another doughnut gasket on Mazda 6. That one was making belt-like noise with around 80% of it left.

    I just want to say "THANK YOU" for sharing this video. My 2007 Sienna had the rattling noise and I was looking all over to see if any hangers or heat shields were loose and there weren't any but the noise was there. I just can't pin point it...I even started to think the noise came from engine itself! After watching this video, I bought the genuine parts (yes, I know it is expensive but I went with the OEM) and replaced the exhaust gasket. The noise was GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woohooo, I am so happy for LOL. A big thank you to you!

    Thanks! I was having trouble tracking this one down. Heat shields were all tight. Separated the flange and the gasket was just about non-existent. Your ratchet strap trick worked perfectly. The nuts on my flange were rusted away so I chiseled them off and put locking flange nuts in there stead along with the new flange hardware. No more chity chity bang bang.

    Thank you for this video! I thought mine was a heat shield rattling, and I even put some worm gear clamps around the one heat shield I suspected, but that didn't solve the annoying rattle. This was EXACTLY what was wrong with my van. My old gasket was so worn away that it was about half the thickness of yours, and I couldn't even get it off in one piece (it crumpled). Problem solved now with the new parts!

    Thanks for your post! My 2007 had the exact problem that you demonstrated! Your video was fantastic and is priceless!

    Thanks a lot! I had to torch the nut to get the bolt off. Not sure if you mentioned but the new bolts were a 18mm head. Everything worked great. Thanks again.

      Thanks for your comment. These nuts came off surprisingly easily on my Sienna. Sounds like you had more common scenario.

    Thanks for this video! It diagnosed my van problem. I took a different approach to fix it because I wasn't going to be doing it myself. Sharing this in case it might help someone else. I took it to a locally owned exhaust, tire, brakes, etc. shop (they do a lot of custom too) and they eliminated the joint entirely. Cut out the old and welded in a new piece of pipe. This avoided buying the parts and trying to get the old components apart-it would likely take a lot of time/labor, and I noticed other comments stating the difficulty to remove bolts, etc. Cost me $65, probably would have been 3x that to have it replaced to the original. And, I won't have to do it again! Rattle eliminated, stress reduced. Ahhhhh. Many thanks!!

      Thank you for your feedback! Even though it is a solution, I would not recommend doing that. That join is designed to move and reduce the stress from movement of the back part of the exhaust to you engine manifold. Having one solid piece increase the chance of creating Very expensive issues with your exhaust/engine in the future.

      My experience with the local chain exhaust store is the exhaust parts rust out in a few years. I always go OEM.

    Thanks for the video. I have a 2018 Sienna XLE with 93,000 miles on it and I was trying to identify the rattle chirping diesel sound and I will now zero in on this joint and keep you posted. Any idea how much the stealership would charge for the repair?

      You are very welcome! I would expect it to be around $300 at the stealership 😀

    Thank you! What 2 parts are connected at this point? The catalytic converter and whats other pipe on the right?

    I did this, is there a torque spec!! I have to tighten to? I got the sound back after 50 miles. Actually I have not tightened untill the bushing hit the rear flange. I saw in a video to leave some leeway, so there would be some movement in the exhaust pipe !!

    • @justdoityourself

      I believe the bolts are designed in a such way, that you tighten nuts all the way, and springs will allow that movement.

      Okay, I will tighten them and update you here. Thank you for prompt reply

      Also, I was only able to get the old half gasket out. Not sure about the remaining part, whether it got stuck or went inside!! Do you think this will cause problem in the future

    • @justdoityourself
      @justdoityourself  7 місяців тому

      I don't think it will create any issues if it got inside, but if it is stuck the new gasket would not seal properly

    MAAAAAAN I just bought a sienna 2012 and it's making the same noise. I thought the rattling noise had to do something with the transmission because it sounds as if it was coming from the front passenger side.

    • @justdoityourself
      @justdoityourself  Рік тому

      Yeah, it sounds like transmission and it usually happens in the first gear, at it has the highest torque causing it to vibrate.
