Including the entire Midrand area and that wasn't even 50 years ago. The Midrand area has some of the most fertile soil in the country. Even in 94 the area was still a good chain of farms. Shows how quickly this country has developed while some of you are still moaning and complaining.
Wow, I didn't know Sandton was farmland, we knew about Midrand but that's all insightful and inspirational at the same time!
@@luthovellem865 Midrand has poor soil, it is decomposed granite, can't grow anything in it, which is why there are so many quarries around Midrand for the construction industry, the only farmed industry was a Dennys mushroom farm but that was burned down by arsonists.
Long post warning because all five apply here: 1) The standard of living is why I didn't want to leave each trip. 2) I always wanted to visit my roots in west Africa, but know I could only LIVE in South Africa. 3) As a retiree, I have felt a rejuvenation physically and spiritually. I have experienced the respect wearing this salt-and-pepper (or as they say, black and white) beard. Connecting this one to the first one, I just visited my glaucoma doctor who was amazed at how low my eye pressure was after my month-long stay. He said that SA did me right! 4) As a retiree, my dollar needs to stretch. I spent the past two years working a "retirement" job just to maintain a decent life in Atlanta. 5) I believe that some people doen't understand the different ways that God "speaks" to us. Many people are looking for the "10 Commandments" experience but we were blessed with discernment and have to learn how God speaks to us through experiences and expressions. Since my first visit, God has been telling me that SA is where I should be at this point in my life. Good job, Rickey, and thank you for the prayer!

The retirement piece I can speak to. Young people are very respectful here, healthcare is on point and your pension/social sec goes far. It's what you deserve after working 35+ years.

Shortcut tip :Theres an elevator at the Micheal Angelo 13:38 that takes you inside the mall via Nelson Mandela square you don't always have to walk through the other end of the road. You can also access the mall from the convention centre, there is a glass walk way upstairs up the escalators in the centre that takes you into the mall that gets you into the diamond walk.

When Micheal Jackson bought property here in 1995, I knew that our country was special or different. American turned South African Billionaire Saul Kersner also made this country his in the early 90s thats when we knew that SA was not like other African countries. Infact, growing up in SA in the 80s and 90s we reffered to you as Saul Kersner when you had a bit of money in the township.

Ive heard from some African Americans that South Africa kind of gives one a soft landing to the continent of Africa,maybe also due to that its the most industralized/most developed country in the continent and also has most Western amenities one will need compared to other African countries..but one must not get it twisted..South Africa is STILL Africa..so it still carries some African problems which you find in other African countries

Yes, Mr. Jones, health is better. A friend of mine who live upstate New York has lots of knee problems. When he visited SA, the knee pains stopped. The cold weather in the States causes lots of knee issues. I researched it. Warm climate in Southern America make knees health. By observation alone you can see it. 40 olds using walking canes. Some already have had one knee or both have been operated on. This fact is supported by empirical evidence. Please keep spreading the good news. And may the Lord, the African Deities and your Ancestors keep blessing you and your family.

I’m Zambian born, lived in SA as a kid and then Botswana. Now I’m in America and I’m like, home is so much better. Our food is richer and healthier. The amount of gas I had when I started eating American food 😂😂😂.

They come because with our exchange rate they can afford to live in the most expensive elite suburbs which are way beyond the budgets of most South Africans. I have seen a few of those channels and in no way do they mirror the lives of most locals.
In most cases this is true! However we still get the benefit of learning, growing, interacting and embracing the locals we encounter!

As an addition, I would suggest that he gets an additional skill/certification such as being an artisan and gain some work experience in the US prior to relocating. In that way he could end up getting the critical skills visa and be able to be his own boss in the artisan sector. If you move to South Africa he could consider working for Amazon or DHL.

My one friend from USA says they choose South Africa coz in the USA u are made 2 feel bad coz u are African American u are judged or be a statistic whereas here u are appreciated being AA and u treated with respect. Yes u get stopped by the police but u get spoken 2 in a friendly manner whereas in the USA her mom has 2 give her brother the talk of how u shouldn't run when encountering a police officer here u can talk 2 a cop here and its lovely . And her mom was scared every time a cop came in the USA they would be afraid he might be trigger happy (They moved 2 South Africa post wat happened 2 George Floyd )

Hi Ricky, thanks for the video. I realise most of the people from America visiting South Africa are good black people. There are also bad black people in the States too, how long r we gonna wait untill we get the bloods and the cribs. Commiting crime and refusing to contribute to the economy? Last time I was watching the "changing the narrative channel" where the host named Jabu, has already admitted to driving drunk and also involved in a crime by paying Joburg metro cops R2500, not to go to jail. As South Africans, this is not good.

They have an interesting personality, they are so rich in soul, laid back, authentic and look cultured, not contaminated by the tiring liberalist approach of sophistication.
When, I was in Japan, some years back. I met a brother from the Mississippi, he was with the US Navy in Sasebo, Kyshu Islands.
He was such a lovely brother to be in his company, very curious about South African culture and talking slowly, he actually reminded me of people in Lesotho, they speak slowly and take their time, but firm people.
I trust he is doing well wherever he is.

I hear you but don't involve AA brothers and sisters in SA politics , what you should do , is vote,
Our AA are not interested in politics they feel good and free in SA
I like your positivity, but just to address the idea that people who expect better of the government of this country (and, after all, it's the people who keep electing them, so in a sense, of the people, too) are "spreading negativity", no, they're just saying, "Do Better".
The politicians care what e.g. Americans think of them, so one way to try and pressure them into doing their job properly is to not be too polite to embarrass them with the plain facts they should be ashamed of. (For instance, look at the murder rate. We don't need excuses to exonerate the murderers among us, we need to do whatever it is just about every other country on Earth does to keep the number of murders within reasonable bounds. And murder is just the crime that can't be left off the books after the complaint, or described as something else, so it's a proxy for overall violent crime.)
Is it "propaganda" or negativity to go on and on about something negative like the murder rate?
OK let's just pretend it is. So what then? Do we just forgive? So sad for us; we just have to live with high crime. It's because of inequality, because that proves someone's theory right, and it also confirms our helplessness in the matter. Patience, patience. Just make there be less inequality and the violence that goes with the crime will just take care of itself?
Yes, those are negative things, but is it truly just negativity? Negativity as something like complaining for the sake of complaining? Might it not just as well be ordinary nonviolent pressure on a non-performing government to get its stuff together and start doing what the taxes are meant to pay for it to do?
You know that favourable exchange rate? It's something you should perhaps not just be simply happy with. Yes, it's great for you that it's so favourable, but it wasn't always so. There have been times post '94 where the exchange rate was 10 to the dollar, so the good exchange rate also means that half of what South Africans own has been wiped out (since it's the dollar value of a currency that gives its "true value"). Food prices are great? They're terrible. It used to be cheaper. Times are harsh now.
At around the time of the changeover to democracy, you'd pay about R5 to buy a pound (and a bit less than that to buy a dollar). Go back further in time, and there was a time (partly due to greater exchange control restrictions than we have now) when a dollar would buy you 30 South African cents. Or with a Rand you could buy yourself a few dollars. Notionally. If you managed to take enough Rand to buy a significant number of dollars with you, you'd end up in jail if they found out.
From a South African point of view, the only good thing about the current exchange rate is it makes our exports more competitively priced (for a while, until dollar based production costs have forced prices back up).
I'll grant you that maybe the currency value grumble is negativity. It's just economics in action or something.
But the murder rate? Sorry, but I'm unhappy about it. And I want the whole world to know, so that maybe our politicians one day become ashamed of it, and maybe even do something about it one day. (And I don't mean just waiting for equality creating measures - or something sold off cheap at voting booths as this - kick in.)
Let me end positive. Yes, the people are lovely. Apart from being completely irresponsible voters, they're the best people on Earth. Even the white people aren't as horrible as they've been made out to be. (OK, maybe they are, but their numbers are diminishing, so there's some hope that one day they'll all be part of some diaspora or something. Or something faster than that, if Julius takes his "not yet" option and speeds things up. Maybe that's what it will take to fix things. A bit of barbed wire, some guards, a patch of desert, and there you go, problem solved, everyone lives happily ever after. On a positive note, this scenario is not very likely to ever play out. Not even if we are one day cursed with a President Malema.)

Well the dollar can go a long way indeed.....but yay the babylon toxins have creeped in into society unfortunately....so you can be forced to run away to babylon just to escape family...in babylon people aren't too much into the outside folks and hence meaning comes from family and good friends but in Africa now, the stress of life strife is starting to mess up everything regrettably

I visited once in South Africa, in Cape Town, and stayed with a host in a private home. I opined something about the beautiful scenery (mountains and sea) and how it would be nice to live there. The woman said quickly, basically, that no, this was naive. She said that people had to pay for private security because the police would take hours to respond, if they showed at all.
I hope though that South Africa will slowly heal from the legacy of the apartheid past. Our South Afrcan guide on the tour believed that this was the case.
I wonder if there are any white American or European that are come here too. Just a thought

We have beautiful cities in our country why are so many Americans flocking here if life is not better, they tired of obesity and processed foods.

I’ve been all over America and thought it was all that. Yes, some parts of the USA is beautiful. All countries are like that. In my travels in North, West, East and Southen USA and North, West, East and Southen AFRICA, I must inform that 🇺🇸 IS NOT in the same Galaxy of AFRICA for natural beauty and human behavior. And I am posting this from 🇺🇸 but will be in 🇿🇦 next month. I visit every 3 months for the last 5 years and 1 or 2 times yearly for 5 years before then. I know it well and will retire there. The environment is truly akin to paradise place for humans and nature. 🤷🏾♂️
South African landscapes are easily more beautiful than the USA. It’s like Disneyland of Mother Nature. And again don’t get me started on people - especially behavior in public and morals.
USA has better kept roads and more expensive mass transit. Easier fast movement. That’s the only difference. Everything else is same each place.
