Clay has quickly become one of my favorite drummers. He just drips style and precision. This guy could give Travis barker lessons on how to use the hi hat, absolute master. Really wish he would do a play throughout the audacity, the level of playing on that song is absolutely masterful.
If you don't know who Luke Holland is you should check him out. Looks like he'll be releasing his drum playthroughs on his UA-cam channel of the songs he wrote for Polyphia. Luke wrote 6 songs for this album. It's fun seeing what Clay kept and what spins he did in the writing process!
I'm no drummer, and before I found your channel I really had no clue how technical everything was. You've made drumming 10 times more enjoyable for me.
love from Japan brother, your analysis of my favorite band really makes me nostalgic to the competitive marching days (and trucking over field judges lmao). hope to see more of these for a long time!
Something interesting that I picked up on right away with Clay, because of my rap/hiphop background, was that Tim’s programmed drums influenced him a lot too. Tim is known for putting “trap” drums (hi-hat patterns mostly) into the first drafts of their songs and then Clay adapts it for his kit. So take drumline experience and mix it with trap beats and you get Clay lol so dope 🔥
Its cool too, even the fills he kept 100% from the Luke Holland version sound different because he accents them differently/uses different cymbals for the parts. I like seeing the subtle differences even in the parts that he kept the same
tony, love your breakdowns, especially the anime/game songs. nothing gets my heart racing like some intense drumwork, and I was surprised to find it in an unexpected place that I thought you might appreciate. "Ghost" by Hoshimachi Suisei is an original song out of Hololive, and while her vocal performance is absolutely sublime, I always find myself getting lost in the band behind her on the track. even if you don't do a video on it, I think you'd enjoy the listen. 🤘
Idk where to put suggestions so I’m just gonna comment it here. I think you’d like Ado, her most popular song is Usseewa. She also has a album for the new One Piece Red movie that has many top composers one of them is Hiroyuki Sawano on “Tot Musica”. My favorite song of hers is probably either Gira Gira or Readymade.
Just listened to readymade, even worse, that music is so trash, I love electro swing but that is swing music you'd hear from a cheap claw machine or some carnival game, how on earth do you find that appealing in any way/what is wrong with you?
would love to see what you think of 66Samus! I saw him live when i was 18 in 2008 where he filled in on the DAY OF (like their drummer quit) a tech death metal band and absolutely killed it. first time seeing such a professional in person
what i like about clay, is his groove he gets in... if you watch his old playthroughs from when they were still kinda like metalcore... he looked so incredibly bored playing all of that ridiculously fast stuff... i mean he literally chews gum while playing it... there's no way i could keep a beat while chewing gum. But, yeah... he seems like he actually enjoys himself now.
Hey, Tony! Nice vid, you should check off-stream do Luke Holland's channel. He helped Clay to write this song and other 5 in Polyphia actual album, plus the dude is a beast aswell. Cheers and thank you for the video.
Hey Tony, hope you read this, I'd like to suggest something I think you'd really like... F Maj Pixie by GoGo Penguin ( ua-cam.com/video/rulvwhkvABE/v-deo.html ) - they're a jazz trio from England, but unlike any jazz trio you've heard before... in my head they're the jazz equivalent to Polyphia. I'm convinced you'll love the drumming on this track, but in particular the keyboard work is incredible - Anyway just a thought - looking forward to your reaction Chimera (Clay is as amazing as ever!), cheers
I'd like to see you react to "Il mare eterno nella mia anima" from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. It's very different from the Jojo music you've reacted to so far
I know you probably pause a second into the next portion (or whatever it's called) of a song to be sure the current one is done and then you give your input, but I think at this point you're really good at knowing when portions end. So I think Now you could honestly guess right and pause Right before the next portion even starts. I'm sure you've already heard and thought about this, but maybe nOw you're skilled enough to not have to spoil the next portions? Sorry this is long and if you still prefer to stick with the former, don't worry about it :)
If you didnt know, Luke Holland was contracted by polyphia to write drums for 6 songs i believe on the album. Technically the style you like here is Lukes although clay does a fantastic job. They wanted a different flavor for some of the tracks and i respect that. ua-cam.com/video/7g1usz9fxww/v-deo.html
Luke did not write anything for Polyphia. Luke got together with Clay and worked together to find what worked best. Luke says this In every polyphia playthrough.

The audacity
I think precision and clean is what you can describe Polyphia as a whole. Every band member just exudes that.
ive been waiting on a playthru of the audacity since the album came out. and Ego Death. hope they come out some time

To be fair, him and Clay wrote the parts together.

Exactly thank you.
Seems like alot of people were eager to discredit Clay at any opportunity

It is definitely worth watching the Tim and Scott playthrough if for no other reason than watching them being goofy.

NOOOOO, 15 hours… Man, your reactions to Polyphia are probably one of the best I’ve seen, keep up the good work!
I appreciate the nice comment

What a sweet groove. Clay is a beast. Love the separation. Great breakdown, I really enjoyed the video!
I loved watching this playthrough and comparing it to the Luke Holland playthrough to see the things Clay kept.

Oh man yes, Suisei is absolutely incredible and I'm sure he'd enjoy Ghost a lot.
More!! Please😂 if you could breakdown every single one of their playthroughs I would appreciate it. Thank you.
I love your attitude to detail!

My discord is the usual spot
Ado is corny af, Gira Gira is mixed terribly, vocals ruin it, sounds like low budget version of final fantasy cut scene music

He probably is 😂
