Thanks I appreciate the kind words. I’m hoping they tour after this new album is released and that Pittsburgh onus on that tour. If not I’m traveling to see them.
@@bobcieslinski Unfortunately it looks like they're only doing a couple shows in texas then going over seas doing a tour in Europe.. I wanted to see them live so bad.
The polyrhythms are one of the things I like about Polyphia- it's like a jazz band where everything chaotic comes together on the downbeat, unless they surprise us with a rest on 1 and come in on the upbeat (which they do a lot). That's definitely a breakbeat kind of thing. I think what I love about Steve Vai's part is that he's known as a "shredder" (I mean, he's OG). But instead of trying to out-shred Polyphia with notes, he does this crazy-hard double/triple bending flow section that's just insane, once again proving he's not afraid to innovate. Never heard anything like that before.
Me either Jeff. I though Steve’s solo was awesome and it blended with Polyphia so well but was still different. The his was crazy good. I’m listening all of thr time. I’m addicted.
The trumpet players name is brasstracks. He’s featured throughout the new polyphia album and he has a song he’s more featured on the album called Genesis (feat. Brasstracks) only like 17 days before their album to hear more brass!! You should def react to it when it comes out
They really do a great job of filling in the space around their melodies with rhythmic motifs that give those melodic lines a lot of drive and direction.
obviously everyone in Polyphia is a virtuoso at their instrument, but I think my favorite thing about this band is how everyone in the band gets their time to shine and they all give each other the space sonically to do their thing it seems like they all just want to write parts that service the song instead of their ego.
First time I heard this song and watched the video I was absolutely blown away to outer space. This has to be the most unusual funky, melodic, complicated impossible playing I have ever heard. Insanity. Great reaction video sir. Thanks for the video.
I loved the way you described how seemingly unique and apart all the instruments are playing in sections throughout Polyphia songs until they emerge together to deliver hit points that just work so well together. Brilliantly articulated sir, much more so than how I have tried to encapsulate their sound
Damn. I have watched this music video multiple times per day lately, and still get goosebumps when Vai is building up around the part where he makes that "chirp" sound on his pickups. It's like a weird addiction. I keep wanting to play it again, but I'm afraid of desensitizing myself to how amazing it is.

They're definitely my favorite New band I've discovered only a month ago...I recently had ACDF surgeries front and back of my neck at 5 levels and the sleepless nights have been filled with polyphia and chon.... thank you guys.... You can tell they love what they do
I saw Polyphia live twice now. The second time was this past August with the band Unprocessed and it was the best concert I’ve ever been to. When Polyphia started, the same trumpet player in the video, Brasstracks, opened up in the song Genesis and it was super funky and the guitars and trumpet blend so well together. They sound exactly the same live as they do in the studio so you won’t be disappointed.
@@bobcieslinski aye we got a basketball fan in the house, unfortunately I am not a 6’7” Slovenian basketball phenom, I’m a 5’9” Croatian American from Jersey haha. Side note: a reaction suggestion would be the band Unprocessed, I’d recommend songs like Dinner, Orange Grove, or The Longing off their new album. The lead singer and guitarist is on par with Tim Henson in terms of talent, and he sings like an angel/screams like a demon.
Phenomenal song. Unbelievable talent. Thank you for not trying to pick apart all of the techniques and just enjoying the unearthly talent which is Polyphia and Steve Vai. Most of us watching are musicians and get the techniques broken down on other content.
Soo cool… they nailed it with this song… Showcasing all of their talents. The main melody going on behind all the technical stuff is so lush. Just beautiful. And they tastefully weave it in and out throughout the song. (The melody the brass player does at the end)… and yeah. In the middle of Vai’s solo when they drop drop the bass and start jamming. That few phrases is Polyphia’s signature sound. I love it… I hope they keep it going and never compromise their sound for anything. Definitely one of the best (of not the best) guitar based bands out there. First band in a long time with such a great, creative and original sound. It’s refreshing for sure. Can’t wait to see them in October in Boston
Hey Ryan! They are some of the best musicians I’ve seen. This album and song is so incredible. I just saw them live at the beginning of April. They blew my mind. You will enjoy the concert so much.
The video is beautifully planned as well. The entire point of the throne is it signifies the guitarist who is leading that section. Tim first with his hip-hop influenced sound. Then Scott and the metal-ish vibes arrive. Then lastly Steve and there's a bluesy tone that enters and Steve does his Magic. It's the exact same chord progression in each sectio, including the intro and the trumpet outro. But in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th each Lead guitarist gives their interpretation. It's both beautifully simple and amazingly intricate at the same time. Variations on a theme like a classical composition but with a simple pop chord progression that draws us all in. Possibly perfect 🤌
you either just didn't mention it or missed it but it seems to me the flow of the video was very much a "rising" theme. Looked like it started in the basement then moved up through the song until hitting the roof with Steve.
In Steve Vai's intro, it sounds like there are multiple guitars but look at his fingers. He's using a technique he calls joint shifting to play all the parts. Now in the studio he recorded them separately, but when he found out Polyphia decided to make a video for that song, he figured out how to play that all on one guitar.
I love your perspective on Polyphia. These guys are absolutely incredible, and to team up with Steve Vai is astounding! They just put up their interview with Steve on their official UA-cam channel. They chat about making the song and video, how they came up with their ideas, and even discuss how it was received by the media such as Guitar World and so on. Very worth the view. It was fun to watch musical legends just kick back and bullshit for an hour.
I like the musical and visual focus of this video, when the band wants to emphasizes a particular sound by a particular band member that member is put front and center
I love the fact that you said "good spacing" as Steve Vai started. That's one thing so many new bands do poorly... it's like trying to drink from a firehose at all times... "spacing" is so very important. "There is music in the silence."
I'm not sure if anyone ever said who the brass player was, but that's Brasstracks! Super amazing player. Grammy Award winner, worked with notable artists such as Harry Styles, Anderson .Paak, and BTS!
I didn’t know he worked with those artists. Wow! Thank Jonah! I think he was incredible and I don’t need to say how unbelievable all the guys in Polyphia are. I just got tickets to see them in April. Gonna be epic!
I can see a Sustaniac (neck pickup) in Steve's guitar. This is how he got that sustained note effect with almost no picking. Really cool use of that device.
@bobcieslinski, The trumpet player is Ivan Jackson of Brasstracks. He’s a Grammy-winning producer and musician. You’ll also have heard him on Harry Styles’ “Watermelon Sugar,” “Music for a Sushi Restaurant,” and “Daydreaming.”
Hey, Bob loved your reaction man, and that little note technique you are talking about is called "Joint Shifting" named by VAI himself it's hard to master. Cheers!!!

First of all - awesome reaction. I love the passion paired with the knowledge. I read through the comments and didn't see this but apologize if this is repeated info. Two things you might find interesting: 1) Polyphia in many ways is a 5-piece band, with production elements playing the 5th role. It's something I love about listening to them. 0:51 is a great example. Adds a really interesting element if you try to listen to the role of that "5th" member. 2) Secondly, I've always loved what they do with visual storytelling. A few people pointed out the role of the throne, but it's also worth noting we transcend this building over time. Tim starts as arguably the most recognizable member in the basement. Once Scott starts we've ascended into a windowed space. Finally, for Steve (with Clay in the center this time), we have reached the "pinnacle"/ the roof. Just a really cool touch. Again, great reaction! Loved it :)
They've put this all on an album called Remember That You Will Die with a BUNCH of collaborations and features, and I think the brass man is from the brass group they featured on the first track.
@@bobcieslinski I agree, in the midst of an era where bad bunny wins grammys having guitar heroes and true musicians unfold their talent is very, very refreshing. Saludos from Mexico City
Everyone who posted something on the new song and expressed their professional opinion, teachers or musicians, all expressed themselves positively, but you chose exactly the right professional words and explained exactly how I feel... Very nice see how many professionals react to and like this song. I think polyphia likes it toooo 😊 🎸🥁🎺🖤
the "effect" you're referring to is called joint shifting and steve vai invented it like 2 years ago. it's where you bend one string while the others hold
this song is like a history, while the song is getting harder, they are going up on the floors and when they come to the final floor, the king is there waiting, Steve Vai.
@@bobcieslinski and the cenary is changing with the song, like when they are going up, the place is getting nearest of the top, in other words, of the sky! Well, that is my observation and can be wrong, but the song is amazing and the musicians is incredibles too! nice video and review!!
One thing is that whammy bar doesn't bend the strings, it releases the tensity of the strings by raising the bridge and make the strings a little bit shorter. So when you bend/pull the notes pitches higher, but when you use the whammy bar the notes goes lower.
Around 4:30 you talk about "featuring Scott"; but you clearly forgot the first solo he does at the very start of Playing God (when the camera focuses on him). It's extremely epic.
Loved to see your reaction, it was very enjoyable to see you 'get' this as I do. I cant help but think we are seeing the future of guitar based music right here, a collaboration between masters old and new.

3 guys who never visited a barber shop and a guy who looks like he was drawn for an anime comic who even looks cool when he's standing still. + Next level musical talent, what could possibly go wrong?
the intro to steve vais portion was his most difficult part, it's so clean and using his new joint shift technique, i dont think it's layered at all, its all him
It's so funny when the reactors describe the definition of the word Polyphia hahahaha that was the first thing I looked up when I found them. Also, not "up and coming" they've been a band for like a decade lol

I like that they show you can play in all keys at the same time
I can't stop watching Polyphia reaction videos. Hahaha
Polyphia is so awesome and this song is amazing!
3:39 Even UA-cam's automatic translation translated "Scott" to "God"💀
Lol
They've put this all on an album called Remember That You Will Die with a BUNCH of collaborations and features, and I think the brass man is from the brass group they featured on the first track.
I just did Chimera it’s awesome too!it will be out next week.
Bob's reaction at 09:56 is how every guitar geek reacts at that part of the song lol.
That was such a sick part. Merry Christmas!
@@bobcieslinski merry Christmas Bob! Thanks for all the great content. Hope 2024 is kind to you!
I am only 10 minutes in and I’ve dropped my jaw at LEAST 4/5 times… my flabbers have been GASTED.
I don’t even want to know what their music sheets look like 💀💀
That’s funny Addison. Thanks!
The trumpeter is Ivan Jackson from the group Brasstrack
it is nice to see another musician talking about this song... and this band.
Omg these guys are freakin unreal. They are sooo skilled and then they take it to another level.
@@bobcieslinski I agree, in the midst of an era where bad bunny wins grammys having guitar heroes and true musicians unfold their talent is very, very refreshing. Saludos from Mexico City
@@barbosahMX totally agree with you here.
Man they are just beasts on their instruments. I love these guys. I hope they come around Pittsburgh for their tour. I’ve got to see them live.
its like he is the controller of ego and lessons them on how to controll it
Certainly the most complex 12 bars blues I ever heard 😆
Lol
Love your knowledgeable and insightful reactions. Keep it up!
Thanks Pauly!
the "effect" you're referring to is called joint shifting and steve vai invented it like 2 years ago. it's where you bend one string while the others hold
this song is like a history, while the song is getting harder, they are going up on the floors and when they come to the final floor, the king is there waiting, Steve Vai.
Man that’s a great way to explain this. Nice one!
@@bobcieslinski and the cenary is changing with the song, like when they are going up, the place is getting nearest of the top, in other words, of the sky! Well, that is my observation and can be wrong, but the song is amazing and the musicians is incredibles too! nice video and review!!
@@Lucas-bc5ev thanks Lucas great thoughts!
Really appreciate how detailed your reaction is! You help me find words to explain how great this song is 🫡
Thanks so much for the kind words! You made my day.
The brass player is Ivan Jackson (Brasstracks)
Thanks!
the trumpet player is ivan jackson
You don't wanna know, I'm a music teacher too and I am a fan of Polyphia just a week ago!
Hey that’s awesome you teach music. Where do you teach?
Your face passing 7:37 after the pan was exactly how I felt! Subbed.
Thanks for subbing!
Man, Im so exited to hear what these guys will be playing in 20 years down the line....
I know right. I can’t imagine because they are just pushing those boundaries.
I like Tim's playing but Scott's just sends me to another dimension
Everyone of these guys are on another planet with their playing. I saw them live last October. They blew my mind.
One thing is that whammy bar doesn't bend the strings, it releases the tensity of the strings by raising the bridge and make the strings a little bit shorter.
So when you bend/pull the notes pitches higher, but when you use the whammy bar the notes goes lower.
Yes technically you right. It doesn’t bend the strings it tightens and loosens them. I just didn’t choose the correct words ti describe it.
@@bobcieslinski
No problem dude.
It's just a minor thing, good video anyway.
came to listen to him speak about the proficiency of the band, stayed because i was lost in his eyes. great vid
Literally every moment something changes in their video is a flex
I know right. They can do that too.
That's 4: awesome guitarist players.
Around 4:30 you talk about "featuring Scott"; but you clearly forgot the first solo he does at the very start of Playing God (when the camera focuses on him). It's extremely epic.
I think this whole album is featuring Scott. It feels like each song he’s getting his time to shine.
I'd love more than anything to have brass integrated in a full song in the album
That would be pretty cool.
Loved to see your reaction, it was very enjoyable to see you 'get' this as I do. I cant help but think we are seeing the future of guitar based music right here, a collaboration between masters old and new.
Yes this is a fantastic collaboration and it’s a passing of thr torch for sure.
Pretty sure the brass at the end is actually from brasstracks who is featured in the opening song on the album
Vai is using his new technique called Joint Shifting....Look up Polyphias interview with Vai. Vai is like their Mr Miagi lol.
Always love your Polyphia reactions, super detailed and you pick up on the many nuances of their sound. Just have to request again that you check out Plini’s many amazing songs off Handmade Cities, you will not regret it.
(Also there’s a bit of buzziness from your mic or some input, may want to check the gain or something on the mic). Take care Bob!❤
Thanks Jordan I appreciate the kind words and thanks for thr mic suggestion.
How did you record this? Every single minute detail os coming through in this video. I'm hearing stuff I don't even hear when I listen to the song itself... This is so weird! Lol
For some reason I was getting some feedback during this recording. It all got fixed.
The trumpet player is the leader of the band BrassTracks. That lump on hos horn is some sort of midi interface I think.
If you want some real insight on how this song happened, check out this long chat between Polyphia and Vai. Vai actually asks how they compose and they explain in detail.

I watched that video. Super cool to hear them all just talking about it casually like that. Thanks!
Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Huge fan of Polyphia. Really appreciate your insight on it. Can’t get enough of 5:14. Scott is just amazing. How does he even get that sound and moreover how does he come up with it in the first place. So impressive.
These guys are incredible. I don’t know how they even come up with it either. I saw them live at thr beginning of April. Wow they blew my mind.
came back to this video. Really appreciate your reply. Keep killing UA-cam. I just can’t get enough of Polyphia and Steve Vai haha.
Brasstracks is the brass player at the end of the video
Thanks Deborah!
3 guys who never visited a barber shop and a guy who looks like he was drawn for an anime comic who even looks cool when he's standing still. + Next level musical talent, what could possibly go wrong?
Dude that’s spot on and hilarious. If you got that kinda talent you can do pretty much anything. Lol
Jesus, Aquaman, Jack Sparrow and an anime protagonist started a band...
Once you see it, you can't unsee it.
An anime comic is called a manga. tmyk
Finally someone speaks of Scott Le Paige.
He’s a beast too. They all are.
Steve.Via literally used only note and shifted it 100 times to blow your mind
Incredible
I saw you light up when the horns kicked up at the end 😏
Oh yeah total surprise in this song. I heard there will be more from him on the album.
the intro to steve vais portion was his most difficult part, it's so clean and using his new joint shift technique, i dont think it's layered at all, its all him
He’s so incredible and this collab was awesome!
YES THAT WHAT I SAYING IF STEVE VAI Was ever looking for a band he fix right in is this one
Great reaction !!
Thanks James!
The brass player is brasstracks. Not sure of his name but his music is very good.
i love your polyphia react bro !
Thanks man!
This is a my first polyphia song an I'm very happy w where I came in. An ofc ik Steve lol
It’s an awesome one for sure Logan.
ok everyone noticed that whoever is on the throne is on the turn to kick ass right?
The torch has been passed
For sure.
I love that "rekekekek" drop 9:57
My favorite part.
Great commentary 👌
Thanks Leonard!
Something I have noticed with them is that they compose most of their songs with real movements.
They are amazing. I actually have tickets to see them in April. I can’t wait to see them live.
It's so funny when the reactors describe the definition of the word Polyphia hahahaha that was the first thing I looked up when I found them. Also, not "up and coming" they've been a band for like a decade lol
Yes they have been around for awhile. My son and I tried to see them during covid but the shows kept getting cancelled. Finally they are coming back an I scored tickets to see them. 😁
