The main difference between this and the equinox is the platform. This was built on the traverse platform, and the one MAJOR advantage of this over everything else in the category, including the cherokee, grand cherokee, edge and so on, is the 2000lb payload rating. This thing has insane payload for what it is, and 5 people, all their cargo, and a 4000lb trailer still don't overload this thing They NEED to put the 5.3 V8 in this thing. It was designed for FWD, they had it in the Impala SS about 12 years ago. This thing with a 5.3 and AWD would be absolutely insane. I would say the 2.7T would also work but they just put that torque through the roof and I doubt the 9 speed can handle 420lbft
Last Friday, I picked up my 2022 Black on Jet Black Blazer RS. I test drove the '23... the extra inch on the wheels ruin the ride a bit, and I actually like the smaller screen allowing for the flat grippy dash to be utilized when working in park etc... I think they should save the V8 for an SS version later, I got a great deal, and prefer the lines of the 2022 over the '23 as well. I grabbed one of 2 remaining *new 2022's within 300 miles, fully loaded, sunroof etc... I'm happy w/ it, for 43k. one year later lol... and that's about the time I was sharing a vehicle after an accident... I agree w/ you 100.... it's just different, solid, feels heavy, built right, no creaking... Very happy w/ it. I want to say it's the 2019 debut, tweaked and perfected before the '23 "refresh."
I own a 2020 Blazer Premier V6. It's the nicest car I've owned in a long time. We love the infotainment system that allows customer user accounts. The Blazer replaced my 2019 Acura RDX that was lemon lawed.
Blazer ... offroad capability gone , more road and style focused and costs more despite doing less . Disgusting disguise of profits grabbing. Style up a p.o.s. and they will buy it . Or maybe not , Americans are waking up and buying Japanese.
I wish Chevy was a more reliable vehicle. We have owned 3 chevy's and each one cost us gut wrenching amounts of money to keep running. Each was purchased each less than 4 years old with less than 50k miles and we traded them in before 80k because we could not afford to keep fixing all the issues. We had a 2007 Equinox, 2012 Malibu, 2015 Impala. Every single one of those vehicles left us stranded multiple times. (Head gasket issues, Electronics, wiring, computers, fuel pumps, CV joints, Alternators, AC Compressor.) All of these issues were between 50k-80k miles. FAR to many issues for it to be a fluke. I love the look of chevy, but reliability is more important to me. Toyota all the way for us now until American made can last past 100k. EDIT: for all the people asking "Why did you keep buying chevy's" Well, those chevys were spread out among 3 different people. One person was not buying chevy each time. 3 different people bought 3 different chevy at the recommendation of 2 different friends. As stated before. We love chevy styling, and we have learned from our mistakes. All different vehicles.

Looks good, except GM lost me back in the 80’s. I have never considered a GM product since then. Prices up every year, quality down. Too little, too late IMO
True, they don't seem as aggressive in their promotion as some brands. Maybe it's just that they don't keep spawning pointless variants every year like some brands, so have nothing to promote.
GM/Chevy crossover interiors are the worst, and I'm not going to waste my time going to a dealer just to find out what the actual price with discounts might be.

James.... agreed. ALL American automakers are so far behind their European and Asian competitors when it comes to sharp interior design, materials, and trends in style for the inside of the car. Non-American makes have so much more creativity, luxury feels, and sylish looks. Makes it hard to pick an American car over them. The Sata Fe is a great example of this compared to the Blazer, yet not just this example. I also wish ALL automakers would Stop with this ugly "pop-up" info-tainment tablet that "raises out" and up above the dashboard. Never have been a fan of that design and I see it in almost every car now. I prefer a continious inset design that is larger and emdedded into the dash. Some makes and models do have it now, but too many are using the style that raises up out and looks like a tablet sticking out of your dashboard. I've ways wondered if that is a possible safety concern in the event of a collision.
This is exactly like my 3.6L V6 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. I love my Equinox it has fantastic horsepower and it's been super reliable. GM should've kept that 3.6L in their Equinox's and not that turbo crap.
4:14 It worries me that GM feels they need to use two different 9-speed transmissions: one weaker transmission for the 2.0T and a stronger one for the V6. It’s the cost-cutting “quality” you come to expect from GM.
Two words: fuel economy. The new 2.0T should see similar mpg as our Regal TourX 2.0T that never dropped below 30 mpg and would sit at 35 mpg on long highway drives.

I find it so annoying how so many other reviewes obsess about the "manual shifting" (grear select) functionality and how it doesnt have paddle shifters therefore its bad. It's not designed for sporty self-shifting, as you point out, its there for low speed towing and engine breaking. Thanks for detailing how it works. GM will continue to expand the Hummer lineup, it won’t stop after the truck and SUV. A Bronco fighter could be in the works. I wouldn’t be so hard on GM, look at the GMC Hummer EV, besides the price tag, it’s an awesome off-road truck. It has features that the Bronco and Wrangler doesn’t even offer. Lots of folks are willing to pay $100,000+ for the Hummer, reservations are full.

We bought the Honda Passport AWD. Roomy, plenty of cargo space, wide comfortable seats. V6, 9 spd. auto EX-L trim. Couldn't pass up the price... with only $2000 down, our monthly lease is $361 for 36 months. I think that's a steal for the type of vehicle we got. Yes, it was brand new. 50/50 is being generous. 90% of Chevys start having major issues before 100,000 miles. Many before 60,000 mile warranty is even up hence why resale value of them is so low. Resale market never lies.
But I bought a Blazer RS in October My favorite SUV in the snow used to be my Equinox, but wow, the blazer is now my favorite. It's fantastic in the snow. First time my wife drove the Blazer, she took off like normal and smoked the tires. LOL The blazer has that much more raw power than the Equinox.
I just bought the 2021 Blazer. When I picked it up and took it for its first drive, I did down 1 window only to find it had an intense wind-tunnel effect. So i did down a 2nd window, no better. Then I did all 4 windows down and it STILL has a wind-tunnel effect. Did you discover this not-so-satisfying easter egg as well?
I hate that Chevy used the Blazer name on this vehicle. This is NOT a Blazer. They should have given it a different name, and made a mid sized full frame SUV out of the Colorado and called that the Blazer. Shame on Chevy.
A few things I'm disappointed on, is the fact that this is a FWD based model, and/or no performance model. One can be remedied if a new engine can be applied. If you are giving it a Camaro look, it should be a RWD based model. If not a RWD based model. The LF3 FWD/AWD 3.6tt (from the XTS V-Sport) would be a perfect match for this SUV. Both ride on similar platforms, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

All this is to say, if you can find a *new 2022 RS, Grab it now! the 2024 has been announced, the 2023 only has the larger screen that *for me... gets in the way of the grippy flat dash and if not able to relay a video signal, not worth the extra 5k, as well as losing some sportier lines/ exterior aesthetic of it's 2022 counterpart... I drove off the lot w/ 53 miles on this vehicle, it cost me 43k after 2 promotional discounts... and I'm absolutely in love w/ it. Does the SAE's definition of torque vectoring really necessitate the rear axle is overdriven versus the front? I thought it was just to do with side-to-side distribution of power/torque.
@@normt430 didn’t answer my question but okay. Also those two all wheel drive systems are made by different manufacturers. I believe Chevy sources from GKN, which to my knowledge doesn’t have a fluid change interval (at least in the Focus RS which also uses it and has an overdriven rear axle).
I test drove an RS version a few years ago (pre-covid) at a car show and really liked it. Different than a lot of the other crossovers. I've heard and read that the reliability isn't that great though. Do you know if Chevy addressed any of the issues that caused such low reliability scores?

I can't believe GM is still in business. Their decisions to provide poor quality and reliability to customers have gotten them nowhere and they are retreating away from many global markets. Even if they switched up now and decided to go all in on quality it would take a minimum of a decade for the consumer base to try them out again. Same for Ford. Why is the concept of making good vechiles such a forign concept to these guys?
@@normt430 Probably. It's dated and not very impressive. The Blazer gets a slightly better road test score, but they're in the same category (2/5) for reliability. Pretty lousy.

The Outback Touring XT is an easy choice over the Blazer here. Better interior, 260 hp turbocharged flat four, and standard AWD. Subaru owners don't care about having a CVT, unless they want the WRX/STI with the 6MT. The Premium and Limited 2.5i outsell the base by a country mile.
I'm not so sure I'd put the GC as a competitor to any of these. In fact, I was more surprised to see the Murano omitted, which is perhaps a very close and direct competitor to this vehicle. The GC is RWD, tows 7200lbs, offers a V8, has 3 4WD systems, and has a price band of $34k-$100K. As to this Blazer...c'mon GM, kill this and make a K5 or REAL truck-based redux.

The assembly plant in Mexico has been closed since the end of August with the reopening continually delayed by the supply chain issues. Funny how I just received a Costco incentive for GM vehicles.
My Dad just loves how quick and how well his RS handles. I told him it is a better performer car than the new RDX!
This Blazer screams for a high performance version.
On the other end of the spectrum, it could use a hybrid
And majority of the buyer can’t afforded it. Just like the Subaru frosted XT….

True, they don't seem as aggressive in their promotion as some brands. Maybe it's just that they don't keep spawning pointless variants every year like some brands, so have nothing to promote.
They probably break down before Alex can get his hands on one.

James....

Sad how Gm massacred the blazer nameplate
Could have done what Ford did with the new bronco
GM will continue to expand the Hummer lineup, it won’t stop after the truck and SUV. A Bronco fighter could be in the works. I wouldn’t be so hard on GM, look at the GMC Hummer EV, besides the price tag, it’s an awesome off-road truck. It has features that the Bronco and Wrangler doesn’t even offer. Lots of folks are willing to pay $100,000+ for the Hummer, reservations are full.

This is a Chevrolet and not a Buick or Cadillac. They do deliver on reliable powertrain and is segment leading in testing.
50/50 is being generous. 90% of Chevys start having major issues before 100,000 miles. Many before 60,000 mile warranty is even up hence why resale value of them is so low. Resale market never lies.

Blazer and trailblazer are not back
Damn right, theses are a disgrace to Chevy and gm.
Blazer engineer Larry Milhalko says in the TFL review the RS has Twin Clutch AWD system that sends up to 60% of torque to the rear and also torque vectors(100%) the differential left and right. TFLcar
We had a XTS Vsport 3.6TT and with a ecu tune was putting out 550 lb-ft of torque. Even with Haldex AWD it still put down the power very well.

Does the SAE's definition of torque vectoring really necessitate the rear axle is overdriven versus the front? I thought it was just to do with side-to-side distribution of power/torque.
GM skipped the over driving as it would necessitate rear diff oil change every other motor oil change like SH-AWD/i-VTM.

I can't believe GM is still in business. Their decisions to provide poor quality and reliability to customers have gotten them nowhere and they are retreating away from many global markets.
Even if they switched up now and decided to go all in on quality it would take a minimum of a decade for the consumer base to try them out again.

Why? Most buyers of these things need a car, not a truck (or they would have bought one).
I think it I was shopping in this segment, I would be looking at a Subaru Outback. I at first thought I would want the Passport but I don’t like that it doesn’t offer an electronic parking brake or auto brake hold. I am a little hesitant on the Subaru though. While our 2015 Forester 2.5 Limited is a fine vehicle, the cost of ownership seems a bit high. Also we have seen a few things go wrong, namely with the power lift gate and more recently the A/C compressor.
Woops. Adaptive Cruise Control available as a package option upgrade only on RS and Premier trims. FAIL
I watched a tv program more 10 years ago about some union car workers. One guy said he was making ~65 dollars an hour on the assembly line. Right there I understood why American cars weren’t reliable. If they had to pay the assembly line workers that much, they had no choice but to use crappy parts on the cars to meet the price target.
Top union guys at a local engine plant are making less than $40/hr after 30 years.
Assuming this is normal for most UAW workers pay-scale wise, things are nothing like they were before the Big Three tumbled a couple decades ago along with the bail-outs, etc. Some of the equipment there is just decades old, and its considered 'smart' to keep dumping money in fixing it vs buying newer, more modern equipment as it comes out of OpEx vs CapEx. Saving pennies is worth more than improving quality according to the MBA's in Detroit, reputation can always be regained by a slick marketing campaign so they say...
You like Tesla quality?
@@normt430 Teslas are made in a very old GM plant that was co-owned with Toyota for some years, then sat largely idle for a while before Tesla took it over. Their build quality is crappy because they're pushing out cars as fast as they can.
@@markmiller3279 they are not building Tesla in any facility but a tent! I have seen many with mis-matched body panels, it is pretty bad!
Great review m
This out handles and is faster in a straight line than a Acura RDX! My Dad loves his RS!
I love the look of a lot of Chevrolet's vehicles but in my opinion $44,000 is too much money for a Chevrolet, Chevrolet in general only has average to bad reliability which also goes back to $44,000 being too much money for a Chevrolet
When Consumer Reports rates the quality of cars, it surveys its own subscribers. So it’s really capturing the opinions of a universe of its own subscribers who fill out surveys. JD Power captures a wider audience, but it’s also capturing the opinions of car owners who fill out surveys. I’m not convinced those are statistically valid methods. And that’s why I like the IHS Markit loyalty awards.
Every year IHS Markit analyzes over 12 million new vehicle registrations to see what kind of car people had, and what kind of new car they went out and bought or leased. That allows Markit to measure which companies, brands and models have the highest loyalty. 12 million is a lot, and there are no surveys to fill out, so I like that methodology.
Guess which car companies have the highest loyalty? GM and Ford. They usually don’t do that well when CR or JD Power rate them. But having the highest loyalty speaks loud and clear about their quality. JD Power and Consumer Reports also rate Land Rover and Alfa Romeo at the bottom. But IHS Markit shows Land Rover has the highest loyalty with full size luxury SUV owners. And Alfa Romeo is the most improved....
Years ago the Packard Motor Company’s advertising slogan was “Ask The Man Who Owns One.” That’s kind of sexist way to state it today, but it’s also considered one of the most effective taglines in the history of automotive advertising. Autoline Daily
Still a yawn when you get past the front.
It is behind the driver's seat is where things change. The Acura RDX 2.0T beating 0-60 mph, near Stelvio Ti handling, is all part of the package for a great driving suv which can't be said today.
Do a edge titanium
Will never buy " Subsidize GM".
Same here. The last GM vehicle I had was 1984. Haven’t even considered one since then.
Why not? I see you like Hyundai? Are you trying to get a new house via a insurance claim from a overnight fire via your genesis? Because Kia motorGroup has both massive engine failure and fire issues.
Then you won't be buying from any manufacturer as they all are subsidized in the past few decades.
Ok. But why is it named Blazer?
Target market is marijuana smokers
Yeah why is it named a blazer
Santa Fe for me.
Is that a dog I see reflected in the front of the Blazer? How do you stop him/her from roaming into your reviews?
That interior is not good.
No hybrid?
Dear
followers!! Don't let the beautiful pictures confuse you . Anyone who
buys a new car from GENERAL Motors the chance you threw your money into
the trash is very large. In this company there is no customer service,
the company's management does not care at all, if you have a problem or a
malfunction, you can only pray to God there is a chance that the help
will come faster. GM is a very dangerous company, be careful and keep
your money safe.!!!Share so more people don't get screwed.GM is a big bluf
This screams throwaway vehicle/rental fleet
Solid was an older Blazer, this is not.
Gm products at least from what I heard were better made back then.
@@naveenthemachine No, all cars from that era were junk. If they weren't breaking down they were rusting. 100k was as long as most cars lasted, and then only with a lot of repair work. When it comes to cars, older was definitely _not_ better.
@@markmiller3279 even the 2001-2002 gm SUVs? I’ve heard Scotty say that the old Chevy suburban with the 4 speed auto was bulletproof
Yup
Lol no one wants a crossover. Gm is the next blockbuster
i got the moon roof !
They still make Chevy’s 🤔
I joke I joke
I would probably do a Honda Passport if it didn’t have that horrible button shifter.
Alex, When can we finally expect a new GMC Jimmy 4x4 along the lines of the new Bronco? If enough people demand a new Jimmy, we might at least end up with a new Tracker. ;-)
We should end up with a new Geo Metro. I wonder what one of those would look like in 2021
@@garrettw99 Just like a Chevy Spark is a safe guess. And it would sell just as badly.
@@garrettw99 That sounds like a compromise on a compromise. Search for Suzuki Swift to preview the next Metro ;-)
I think a Mitsubishi Mirage is more of a Metro than the Spark. And the Swift looks almost as nice as a Mini Cooper on the outside and looks like a Subaru Impreza inside.
@@garrettw99 I used the historic comparison because the Metro was a re-badged Swift back in the days of the Tracker.
Your simple argument about looking for a deal or get subaru or hyundai tells all about the quality of Chevy plus the resale market.
And a lot of people talking about ratings, those are all fudged and baised. If I really have to buy American brand I would choose Ford over any other every time
The Korean's and domestic have offered some of the best discounting in the past compared to overpriced Japanese. When you work your deal the lower discounted prices is like having prepaid depreciation that no Japanese brand can match.
Right now i would steer more toward a Tucson PHEV i think
WAIT, WAIT, WAIT! We are going to consider GM for having the "decency" to not call this the Camaro Cross. How about they have the decency to not drag the Blazer name down to a dorky crossover?
At least Ford gave us a cool vehicle for the Bronco nameplate, but they are not entirely innocent giving us that 4 door electric Mustang. I am a bit on the fence with the Bronco Sport, but they did at least offer a reasonably capable version of that vehicle.
Perhaps we just need to get used to living in a world of reboots and sequels that never live up to the original...although True Grit was pretty damn good.
Only us old timers know what the Blazer was really like… otherwise today’s generation looking for this class of vehicle don’t really care 😣
@@fabulousprofound I generally agree, but the same could be said of the Bronco name. Ford managed to give the enthusiasts and purists a vehicle that does the Bronco name proud and also an option for those who don't care as much.
I’d bet Chevy makes more $$ with the blazer than Ford makes with the bronco. Blazer will sell in higher volumes, is cheaper to make, & should have lower warranty cost given all the weird roof, etc. on the bronco.
Looks like Lexus anyway.
That thing needs a hybrid/EV.
Chevy beside the Corvette, all other vehicles design look like shiz
