2024 Chevrolet Traverse Review | Is This Our Next SUV Of The Year? It's A Solid Contender For Sure..

  • Chevy's new Traverse looks way, way, way less "minivany" than before and it packs the features to back it up. All models get a TON of standard active safety tech, boxier looks, 328 horsepower standard, and there's a Z71 model for more off-road capability. On the inside we get a better appointed cabin, more tech, and SuperCruise! But most importantly, all of that will happen for thousands of dollars less than the Grand Highlander, with a bigger cargo area and more family-focused features.

    Why don't manufacturers offer 2nd row bench seats across all trims?? not everyone wants captains chairs on the upper trims and I don't want to get a lower trim just so I can have the bench.

    • @bills6055
      @bills6055 Місяць тому +4

      It’s the same reason for using gloss black. It’s perceived by the manufacturers to be more upscale when in fact the luxury brands either never offered it or stopped using it. Sadly the Explorer is the only non luxury model that offers a bench in the highest trims.

      Atlas has bench option in top trim. It has plusses and minuses. For my family of five, we have the option of running all 3 children in the 2nd row if we need to fold the whole 3rd row down for transporting big items. The rub is that we HAVE to move one of the sides of the second row to access the 3rd row. Not a big deal, but less convenient for our smaller children who could easily fit between the captains chairs. It is also nice to have option to seat 7 instead of just 6 if the kids invite friends, or other family members could travel with us around town.

      It's how companies make more money. It's no different in other brands like Nissan (of I want all the safety features, I got to buy higher trim levels. The Jeep GW allows you to choose bench in any trim, my only issue was I couldn't get the Dark Walnut trim inside the vehicle on the top trim level (only the blue agavy and light wood finish). Just ways of companies making more. Hyundai Palisade the same way, got to grt the lower trims for bench and same w KIA.

    I never thought I'd say this...Chevy has been killing it lately. The Trax has got to be one of the best value vehicles available. The Colorado continues to be a solid contender in the midsize truck market and now the Traverse.

    I think GM did a really good job here. The only thing I don't like is that "floating" C-pillar design.
    Just take the C-pillar to the roof. The "floating roof" trend is stale and played out.

    One thing I have to give GM to, now and in the past, is that I believe they genuinely had the best tech in terms of infointanment and now with the SuperCruise. Easy to use. My pick would still be the Grand Highlander Hybrid for its impressive fuel economy, but this stands at a close second.

    • @arhamkhakwani5851
      @arhamkhakwani5851 Місяць тому +6

      @@naveenthemachineThere isn’t much sacrifice. Tests have proven that the hybrid is as fast or faster than the turbo model (Toyota) and it will be more reliable and simple to keep over years. I don’t care about the drone noise that comes with ECVTs as I already drive a car with a CVT. As for roominess, the Grand Highlander and Traverse are near neck and neck and are within a cubic feet of cargo space. I don’t typically use under floor storage, and Chevy included that in their cargo space figures, meaning the GH has more cargo room without the under floor storage. GM tech is good, as I said, but every GM vehicle always comes with their typical electronic issues.
      Find another dude to change his mind on the car, because your logic doesn’t apply to buyers like myself.

    @allanw6103 Місяць тому

    hey FYI you missed a shot of the cargo space with the 3rd and 2nd rows down. overall a much improved 3row crossover in a crowded segment. a redesign was a must. the z71 is more of a lux offroader that most people wont take off road very much but the smoother ride from the 18s is the best part. the tires are a good size(a segment first i believe at 31.5") and the engine now has more hp and torque than most v6s. interior is a vast improvement w tech to back it up. finally tahoe level? focusing on offroad trims here bc i prefer 2 row suvs and think the gx550 is the the new king offroad.... back to z71, i dont like the all black interior, an abysmal trend throughout the industry i would never pay money for, but some people apparently still like , the captains chairs in the rear, the sunroof, the 3rd row or the compact spare buried deep inside the back. perhaps offer a budget ls/lt w an offroad pkg or make a low range acadia at4x w all this fancy stuff optional and follow pilot ts lead, more skid plates?, a lighter interior at least in the top half, a full size spare outside, higher tow rating and towpkg/trailer brake/towhaul mode, side steps to make access to roof easier. this would give the grand c and pilot ts some serious competition but for now the only advantage z71 has is size and power over those older v6 engines. while gm has serious off road trucks in every size, they just cant(or wont) compete w toyota/wrangler/bronco in the offroad suv segment even though they sell more large body on frame suvs than anyone.

      @@AAutoBuyersGuide Is there a media day set up for the Acadia yet (and if so, when)? I have both a Traverse and an Acadia Denali ordered and am looking forward to the Acadia reviews too as they seem to have also started shipping this week. Not only is it the best retail seller in the class, but it has the best fuel economy in the class, by a margin, and it will be about 1 second faster than any four-banging Traverse, doing 0-60 in around 6.5 seconds, so you'll notice the hybrid power over a turbo-four. With that in mind, if I'm paying $50k and up, the Toyota is worth the premium. If you need a budget buy, this is more appropriate

      Thanks for the reply. I agree. I, for one, would trade minimal gains in efficiency for reliability long-term. I would also make tablets in vehicles illegal, lol. These things are a grenade waiting to explode(as is the motor, most likely). We have a 2018 Mazda 6 with a four banger that's NA. Love everything about it, including the efficiency of the motor. The only problem is that the infotainment, which is comparatively simple, is crashing and having issues. The fix is going to be thousands. I'd trade that for a few knobs and buttons that won't fail and if they do are easily fixed. Hertz is dumping all of their EV's because of the costs to fix them and the insane depreciation. EV's are such a tremendous bait and switch, not to mention they don't solve any of the purported problems they have been developed for. At the end of the day though, EV's are about one thing: Control of movement of the population. Anyway, thanks and looking forward to more interesting videos.

The 3.6L that produced 310 hp/266 lb.ft.tq. was nearly anemic. In other words this engine is built to withstand more pressure and it will be more reliable in the long run since it doesn’t have to work nearly as hard all of the time. It’s able to make more power and be more reliable which were the only complaints of the outgoing V6.
