  • Ghost Productions medical animation studio produced for Zimmer Biomet a medical device marketing piece that highlights the Tether System.
The Tether™ Vertebral Body Tethering System is different from the other surgical treatments for scoliosis (e.g. spinal fusion) because the spine is still able to bend and flex, rather than being fixed in place with the stiff metal rods needed for spinal fusion.
The benefits of The Tether when compared to spinal fusion is there may be a smaller incisions required with The Tether and thus less scarring, there may be less muscle and soft tissue disruption, and The Tether system is designed to allow for motion at the levels of treatment.

I’m getting one next week, was the stay in hospital after really painful?

@@WhatsYourFavouritePlane it does hurt quite a bit but they give you a lot of morphine to numb the pain and you end up sleeping most of the time. they made me walk the second day and i was out of hospital after 5 days and back in school after a month. it definitely hurts but it is manageable!! good luck, i hope you have a speedy recovery :)

We animated them using Maya, Houdini, After Effects. Platform? Mac & PC mixed studio. We have 28 years of experience in medical animation and we get our information from surgeons, anatomy labs, and researching the medical documentation of each and every medical device we animate.

It's for people who still have growth left. If you do this surgery to someone without growth left then you may have reduced the curve for some years but eventually it is assumed the tether will break. But yes generally this surgery is for kids and teens because they still have growing left to do.

VBT is only for adolescents because they are still growing. There is a similar surgery for adults called ASC (anterior scoliosis correction) but I believe the oldest patient to receive the surgery was in their early 50s
