    I’m 33yrs old, all this started this February 2024. I think I did it when I lifted a utility trailer off the hitch ball with an arched back, terrible form on my part. I had a sharp pain on my left buttocks, then it started shooting down my left leg then my leg started going numb while walking. I was only able to sleep on my left side on fetal position. MRI showed severe disk herniation on L4-L5. Wednesday July 31 2024 marks a week post surgery and I wish I did this sooner, I can walk straight, lay on my bed and sleep all night. I know this video is not recent but I want anyone that happens to read my comment in the near future to know that this procedure will only be far more effective , so please!have the surgery and get your life back, hope this helps

    For anyone watching who has had this surgery recommended, but is nervous about doing it. Don't worry, just go for it. The results are immediate and you will get your life back. Obviously make sure you go to a good hospital and speak to an experienced surgeon, but as the video demonstrates, it's not actually a complex operation. It can be frightening because of the location, but it's a fairly quick operation and you can usually go home the same day or the following day. In my case my recovery involved absolute rest for 2 weeks, followed by daily 1 hour physio sessions for 2 weeks, then exercises at home for a month. After that, I was basically back to normal.

After several years of increasing sciatica and back pain, finally got with an experienced spine neurosurgeon and after reviewing everything we came to the decision that a laminectomy was necessary. Over the past year I’ve seen three orthopedic surgeons, multiple visits to pain management who helped, but the surgery is needed so that a potential cure can be done. I have herniated disc at L5-S1 and L4-L5. I had pain since 2 months almost. At the beginning I had pain and stiffness in back when i woke up in the morning. After a month i went to the doc and was diagnosed with disc herniation. I got an epidural steroid shot, but it did not work. After few days the pain started to radiate to left leg, till last monday it became so severe that i couldn't even sit or walk upright. Main pain points were back of thigh and calves. So I went again and got micro-discectomy last thursday. The moment i woke up after surgery the pain was gone. I felt relieved. I have been advised be rest for 6 weeks or so.

Could not ask for a better surgeon & staff.(Lisa) I highly recommend this procedure if you're in pain, 4 to 6 weeks recovery or more. L5 & unfortunately I have a extra disk L6. No twisting or bending after surgery. Lots of walking. I was hooked up to a machine to make sure that my nerves in my spinal column we're all safe. Before the surgery I had an office visit & was in so much pain my blood pressure was extremely high and I was sweating excessively. It took a lot of convincing that I was not having a heart attack but just in a lot of pain. After the surgery I was 100% better and can not thank Doctor Mina enough. Outstanding surgeon and person. It's great - 6* video - well presented, easy to understand, helpful to patients etc. It shows how to remove the leaked gel that press the nerve that cause the pain. I just wonder if there is any similar video for the cervical spine and the leaked gel does not press the nerve but press the spine cord. I think it may be more difficult to take the leaked gel out because it is deeper inside; and it more dangerous because it is right behind the spine cord . . . So how is this done? Many many thanks for all this and many other videos, Tony

      Good luck! I know that each person’s bulging or desiccated disc(s) pain is subjective, but I was on that road to addiction of opioids pushed on me by my doctors before I wisened up. I stopped the opioids, lost all my fat (50 lbs) via Keto diet/lifestyle which allowed me to quit other meds I was on. I still have lower back pain and some neuralgia in my feet/legs but far less that before as well as the problems related to cervical disc problems. I deal with my pain with ice packs, ibuprofen, aspercream (sp) and the occasional Lidocaine patch, stretching, walking…I am far better off without my doctors than I was with them.

      @@kingloz36 I have had three over the years. L-4/L-5 in 2001, L-5/S-1 in 2012, (those both laid me out and one hospitalized me.) Most recently, January 2023, a cervical disc bulged towards and is pressing against the central spinal canal. That one was the least severe but still caused much pain, reduced arm and hand strength, reduced sensation, and numbness, as well as reduced range of motion of head and arms.
      I finally got approved for P.T. In May and finished my last session today. I do exercises for my lumbar pain 2 to 3 times a week. I also do exercises for my neck twice a week, as well as rowing and swimming. Continuing to reduce my weight has helped. Hot showers, Ice packs, lidocaine patches, medicated creams, ibuprofen (sometimes and only 2) and stretching. I stay busy doing ALL the house work, shopping, cooking, yard work, car maintenance…as my wife still works full time. These chores keep me busy and divert much attention away from my pain/discomfort. But, hey, I’m alive! Something some of my old Air Force buddies can’t say.

    • @AtlanticSpineCenter
      @AtlanticSpineCenter  7 років тому +5

      Discs can bulge again. Prevention is key. Follow your doctor’s or physical therapy recommendations on the best care for the discs in your back to reduce pressure and strain. If you like to work out at the gym, first learn techniques that strengthen the muscles that support the back including back muscles, shoulder muscles and core abdominal muscles and be very aware of your posture when you work-out at all times. Consult with a certified trainer at the gym before returning to your work out and explain your injury or back problem to them. Going back to the gym after a procedure depends on your doctor’s recommendations, which procedure you have had and in what location. An endoscopic (minimally invasive) procedure, such as in this video, will not take as long to return to your normal routine as an open procedure would. A good comfort level to start back to exercising on your own is around 6 weeks, but physical therapy guided exercises should come first and a Physical Therapist can usually get you started as early as 2-4 weeks.

I’ve been on prescription pain meds, but that only helps for a while. And steroid injections relieves pain for a few days, not weeks. It’s hard to explain to loved one and friends the pain I ‘m experiencing and maybe this video will help them understand. I hate it when people respond with, “Oh, I have back pain, too.” I’m 53, and after failed back surgery, pain rules my life. Even before Covid19, My mobility was limited, so I’ve been in self-isolation for almost four years. It’s depressing to know I will never live another day without pain.

    I am having this in 8 days time, Friday 3rd September 2021. He said he is also removing a small piece of bone to create a bit more space for the nerve. A preventative method to reduce damage to the nerve if the disc ruptures again in the future. My surgeon is keeping me in and plans on discharging on Sunday. So if the inner core gel leaked out, does it refill and does the disc heal and seal the point where it leaked?

      Conservative treatment is always the first line of treatment and with several different approaches-and for several months. Unfortunately for some, those treatments fail. Most time the patient chooses the surgery because the patient has run out of non-surgical options and cannot bear to live with the pain any longer. Although there may be some flattening of the disc, the benefit of reaching relief from months of agonizing back pain outweighs this possible risk factor for these patients.

    Very clear explanations and demonstration. I’m in the firsts weeks of Biokinetics treatment, failing which, I’m expected to undergo surgery. After watching these videos I’m no longer terrified of the possibility of surgery, although I believe the way Biokinetics are working so well, I will most probably not require surgery. I’m a medical doctor (though not a spinal specialist), but my sister has similar problems, with her spinal degeneration much more advanced than mine. She is very likely to end up having surgery, although our (common ) spinal doctor is still trying conservative treatment for now. Thank you for the wonderful videos.

    Had done this surgery in July 2020, after 3 years of severe pain , had done all other things like chiropractor, physiotherapy, acupuncture, stretching made it more worse. Pain was just not there after I opened the eyes after surgery, just soreness around surgery area, it took me 2 months to walk life before , but I put on 10 kg which was not good and then I joined gym with brisk walk cardio and elliptical machine plus cycling, doing slowly. But 10-15% pain always erupt sometimes and one need to take rest and heat the suspected pain area and sometimes a pain killer, you can never feel 100% but 85-90% you can.
    Go for the surgery, it's an safe option.

    I've had two discectomy procedures, first one cured years of back pain which was ruining my life really, after the first one I thought I had been reborn, then 3 years later disaster struck as the disc below that one ruptured in spectacular fashion, the pain this time was off the scale, I was actually delirious crawling around the floor whimpering like a dying dog, I couldn't even stand up and I felt like killing myself just to end the pain, purely physical, just indescribable , I ended up getting stretchered into hospital back to my same surgeon who did another successful procedure and 10 years later all is good. One thing when you have back pain, everyone is keen to give you advice and recommend their osteopath etc, I made the mistake of listening to a lot of guff from a lot of well meaning people which wasted time and money, if you have back pain get an MRi scan and find out exactly what is going on, some ruptured discs will never heal on their own, if the disc is split and the nucleus material has spilled out it aint going back in again on its own, surgery is the answer and it is safe and has a 90% success rate.

    So once that portion of the nucleus is removed, what happens to your range of motion? What happens when you try to lift or squat heavy objects?
    Are there situations in which avoiding such surgery would be better?
    And is there any work being done to bring drugs to the market that would regenerate the damaged annulus & nucleus?

    • @kingloz36
      @kingloz36 Рік тому +1

      All answers to your question is no. Discs don't actually get access to oxygen or blood supply, it's extremely little therefore its incapable of regenerating or "healing". Lifting heavy objects will add extra pressure and axial load to your discs that already are struggling, it'll cause back pain and more compression on the nerves + further degeneration. It severely affects your ROM and your discs will continue to degenerate. You really gotta either stay active on extremely low impact activity to try and avoid reherniation, continue your regular movements but reherniate and continue to get the same surgery over and over agai or you cease the disc entirely aka fusion or disc replacement. I'm getting a disc replacement done BC it preserves my range of motion and it literally can't reherniate. Works just like a real disc, but that's me and my fear of nerve pain. Everyone's different in their preferred treatment but you could look into discseel or barricaid which are very new methods to treating a herniated disc but could be for you
      People don't like admitting it, but it's a disability and it's severe considering it's spinal. I'm 6 months into this journey. 2 herniated discs. 😊
