@@MsJubjubbird you don’t have to ONLY do beam alone to be someone who’s specialty is beam! Many AA medalists had a signature event. Look at Svetlana Khorkina, she won 3 AA world titles and is still the undisputed queen of bars!!
@@saragrant9749 you don't have to only do beam. But if you're winning aa medals then you are pretty good at everything, even if beam is your preferred event.
I am the same… when I was a kid, I remember watching Shannon (all summer my friend and I were doing somersaults in the backyard pretending to be Shannon). When I grew up, Shawn’s beam routine in 2008 was another I always remembered. Don’t remember a lot of gymnast (because I only watched every four years) but those two names were ingrained in my memory and I watched the whole video just to see them specifically.
Shawn Johnson has the most difficult beam routine and made it look effortless and Shannon Miller has the elegance while still having difficult elements. Also Cheng Fei’s opening combo pass was jaw dropping, whole routine was incredibly. Shawn and Shannon are undeniably the BEAM QUEENS!
For some reason she is completely new to me. How I ever missed her is beyond me. Her speed in connections of unbelievably difficult tumbling series is just otherworldly. Honestly I think she is number 1. Period. I live Miller and Shawn Johnson is also up there but goddamn.
Absolutely love Sanne Wevers routines-as the commentary said, so stylish and different. A beautiful gymnast and deserving gold medalist 🥇Thanks for the video 👍
The Code of Points has significantly changed since the '90s and continues to change regularly. A lot of these older popular skills simply don't carry much difficulty value since the sport has evolved; they're now competed by younger gymnasts. Other skills take too long or are too hard to connect to other skills and therefore aren't worth including in a routine when you're trying to achieve maximum point value.
When I saw the picture I immediately knew it was Shannon Miller...her and Dominique Moceanu we're two of my favorites. Not a day goes by that I don't miss gymnastics or have the dreaded what if question.
Shawn Johnson had THE most difficult routine bar none. Shannon Miller’s is the most elegant and unique. When I think of the beam, I think of those queens!
Quite unbelievable that nobody managed to win two gold medals on beam. And your compilation videos always intrigue me to delve deeper into the evolution of photography technology - especially the floaty motions through the lenses of early 2000s.
@@MsJubjubbird I definitely don’t disagree. It takes even more training, an adjustment to the methodology after the age of 18-19 to keep your body in that kind of stabile shape. Not impossible, but definitely more challenging.
I remember seeing most of these. Shannon was one of my mom's favorites and for good reason, her elegance and grace knew no boundaries!! Shawn made her whole routine look effortless and that's the entire point of beam, that and to look like they mastered the apparatus.
@@audio91000Simone Biles is an icon. But in my heart Nadia Comenesci overcome so many osbstacles, a country in turmoil, she hardly had enough to eat. At 14 she got perfect 10s. Both are incredible, too many stars to mention.

But what exactly is being judged here if not medals? Artistry? Line? Form? Presentation? Exemplary demonstration of balance? How are the points calculated?
This list includes gymnasts who placed in the Top 8, so someone like Pavlova who had 2 4th place finishes but no individual medal finished higher than gymnasts with a single Bronze or Silver medal.
Lu Li for me. But some fabulous routines, so much grace and the way they link the acrobatics and balance work so seamlessly. Lysenko, Ponar and Miller too. Simone Biles looks mediocre by comparison.
The crazy thing about this is that the beam isn’t necessarily the strongest apparatus for some of these athletes. Simone Biles’ strengths are vault and floor. And Lu Li was Olympic champion on the uneven bars (with a perfect 10, no less). That says something about just how good they are.
Agree with Shannon but def Yang Bo should be in the top 3 PERIOD. No one was quite the master as her. Position wise and control she is hard to beat when you look at it all.
Thanks for uploading ... but the switching between the same routine with Hernandez is almost schizoid. Why can't you just stay with the one routine? And the editing is choppy.

Very odd scoring. People with no tumbles and numerous stumbles getting 16+ points And people with numerous difficult tumbles and perfect routines getting 8 or less. Maybe the judging changed over time. Not sure.. I feel the scoring is a lot more consistent now than it used to be. And simone biles grasping on to the beam for over a second is a bit ridiculous. It’s equal to falling of frankly. How does this get bronze medal? Come on.
