the goddesses of beam routine, to me: 1- catalina (the cat: pretty, agile and mysterious); 2 - sanne (the butterfly: fluidity in motion w those spins); 3 - nastia (the swan: ellegant and gracious, a feather in the air)
She didn’t deserve that medal! Shannon’s difficult made her look like a joke. Look how low her chest was on that landing of the double tuck. That whole team was full of lies. Screw the Russians and I say that for today too!
@@johnhazel3551 while the Soviet Union did mess with a great number of results and usurp many a deserved medal from other, better routines, THIS gold was very much deserved. Shannon had a couple of little things herself and wasn’t completely perfect either. Back then a low chest landing wasn’t as serious a markdown as it is today.
I realise that this video is based on medals and reputation, and that some of the all-time greats are short on actual titles, but a video called 'Best Balance Beam Specialists of All Time' really should have Yang Bo, Fan Ye, Li Shanshan, Olga Mostapanova, Natalia Shaposhnikova, Ekaterina Vandisheva and Svetlana Grozdova in it.
Most of these are not really specialists. Only Wevers, Schaefer and Guan. And I’m still not over Yang Bo never getting a world or Olympic medal- she was the best ever!
I'm with you on Yang Bo. It's an absolute travesty that she only has the 1990 World Cup victory to show for her magnificence. She was simply magnificent. This video is about beam medallists rather than actual beam specialists.
The first girl was really talented but she needs to point her toes then again I could be just a retired ballet dancer who would like to see more dance moves in the Beam and Floor Excersize like "in the old days" but we do have rhythmic gymnastics to fill that niche
This is based on success at Meets. Shawn was far from perfect. She never once stuck that dismount and her chest was low in nearly all of her acrobatic skills. she landed that standing full with her chest practically against her thighs every single time I saw her do it. Just because she was consistent and didn’t have many balance checks doesn’t mean she was perfect. Liukin was consistently superior in several ways and was more successful in competition.
@@evoandy She only competed at 2 major competitions. She fell in the 2007 Worlds Final and won the Gold at Olympics. I’m pretty sure she would’ve won the gold in a normal day.
@ I would use the term specialist for someone who focuses on 1 or 2 events…like Stephen Nedoroscik being a pommel horse specialist…he literally does not train/compete other events…if someone medals in All-Around I think they can have stronger events…but I would not say they were event specialists. 🤷🏻♂️

100% agree! Although her beam routine is very pretty to watch, there is low risk in learning difficult turns. Gymnasts who combine artistry with difficult acrobatic skills have a far superior routine.
Biggest waste how? Only she can do these difficult turns and the turn combo on beam. You don’t have to be great on everything to get a medal. Besides, on-beam acro difficulty is useless thanks to the beam code. Most importantly, she hits when it matters on beam.
@@lizk1780 it’s not of low risk. No one does double L turn and triple turn on beam. “Difficult acrobatics” is a lie because many people’s most difficult acro excluding the dismount is an aerial nowadays.
Please Simone just needs an OG gold on beam before she retires. So close this year.
So fun to watch all of these great beamers through the ages! Simone's 2023 World gold performance was so perfect!

The part that made Lysenko’s gold so nice was it came after so many mistakes and injuries. Great to see her finally have success.

Where is Sunisa “Suni” Lee?
This ranking is based on World and Olympic medals.
Silivas, Weven, Luikin

Shawn Johnson should be way higher. I mean she's perfect! And Nastia's 9th so it's not fair to Johnson who was better or as good
