Another day in paradise.
I could almost end this here with that short sentence. Truly that sums up my situation and this run... But I'll go on somewhat... there's some space in this box.
Paradise, why? For a lot of people in the Fijian islands this place is a I don't want to say prison but something along those lines. They want what you have, a job, a way to earn a living, some freedom, and all the things our phones have been telling us to want. Maybe this is less now than a few years ago, with the phones I mean... I feel like we can see though a lot of that bull now. Is it financial freedom that makes people happy? That and some options? I mean we're not going to pick any of them though, right?... It's nice to know they are there, but actually choosing them? well now.. that's too stressful.
Paradise, why? why am I having the best of times? Its not the place, it can't be... I used to get board here. A few weeks at a time was ok but Id have to go do something... foiling wasn't around then and I didn't surf yet... I just thought about life, and then I would have a bunch of drinks to wash all those thoughts away. Is it the surfing then? perhaps, but I used to get annoyed when the waves weren't good or weren't there at all. Even if they were there and good, me burnt to a crisp and arms no longer usable, it still wasn't enough... I still always needed one more.
So why now? Is it foiling? Again, maybe. Learning, I couldn't get enough of it, Id wear myself out each day, shadow dancing with overuse injuries... and foiling can be very fickle too... I still have tough days when I can't even get two paddle strokes down in a row, because I'll keep falling off... refraction? I don't know, but I regularly feel like a kook on the sup, and sometimes when im right in the middle of thinking im "all that" now.
Im ruling out some things here... what's left? Me.
Little ole Me.
I just turned 42. Im not going to claim Im enlightened now, but you know what, Im happy with myself. It's been quite a journey to get here too. Looking back, the last decade has been on this trajectory. Before that anything could have happened to me... I could easily not be here. I had no plan or ambition, I had some unrealistic fantasies that were never going to be actioned. A whole lot of boozing and self pity, thinking about life so that I wouldn't have to suffer the actual living of it.
And now? Well Im having moments of presence. Of actually being here, belonging, natural, not thinking ahead or behind.. Just here, with the wonder of what here actually is! Life! It's amazing how simple it is when you're content.
So now for this period, I am mostly free to be me, and happy with who that is, and what I am, not a permanent fixture, but a blip in time.
Anyways... Im sure the foiling helps!

Personally I like your laid back instructions and feelings all coming through all of your videos. The drone angles change videos because you can see what you are looking for. Maybe some almost sea level angle with the drone. Kinda risky though. Keep them coming!

Can I ask (if you happen to know) what’s the comparable/equivalent foil in the Armstrong range? For the exact conditions you have in this video (I’m 85kg) …hoping to understand more the equipment
@@wingfoilrentals best bet would likely be the 1180ha but it might be a touch small… fine if you’re an expert but tough if only learning the ropes.
Maybe something like the older 1325ha?

G’day, is that the ART V2 and Fireballs have been released are you able to give a view or point to the previous vids when you were riding either of them (before they were released). Just trying to figure out my next purchase. I really enjoy the SF 1180 but looking at the Fireball 1070 for some higher speed bumps.
@@damien130970 I used a fireball a little during prototyping and was impressed with how the smaller size can cover off some of the other bigger foils… not only that but all the characteristics felt great.
Unfortunately the sizes were smaller than I’m accustomed to and I never tried the 1070! Only the 1000 DW
My first ride of the 1000 I mistakenly thought it was an 1100 while I was riding it, it wasn’t until I dismantled that I realised it was the 1000. So they really do ride as if they were bigger but without the big foil negatives that people find (not me I like big foils) in hindsight I paddled it up in some pretty small stuff.
The 1070FB would be my step down from the 1201, I see it replacing the 1121 completely for my DW but not the 1201.
I don’t think I uploaded any FB footage… I’ll check though to see if I did or if I have any.
Not much help sorry, but I’ll get my hands on some though in a couple weeks 🤙🤙

@@damien130970 they are not too far different… 1201 turns are more drawn out but overall it’s more efficient.
1030 spitfire is another option but very far removed from the 1180. I don’t like than in order to have a foil to handle more speed I have to deal with more looseness. It pevs me off. It’s worth trying though if you can borrow one.
